Dan Graziano (12:00 PM)
Good afternoon, everyone. Let's get right to your questions.
Ryan (Cary, NC)
Do you think going after a veteran Quarterback in Free Agency will lower the likelihood of the Redskins trying to trade up and draft RG3?
Dan Graziano (12:01 PM)
I think they have to answer the trade-up question before they can decide what to do about QB in free agency. I think Griffin is their best option, so before they start playing around on Kyle Orton or Matt Flynn or Peyton Manning, they first need to know what the cost of trading up to get Griffin will be and if they're willing to pay it. If you see them sign a free-agent QB, that indicates to me that they've decided not to spend what it will take to trade up to No. 2.
Luke M (Work, NJ)
Love the blog and missed you last week. What area do the Giants need to address more in the draft: Oline or D-backs? Both had their struggles this yr but both groups also came through in the clutch. Hard for me to say, so I ask the experts.
Dan Graziano (12:02 PM)
I think the line is more important, since they have last year's first-round pick, Amukamara, as well as possibly Terrell Thomas in the DB mix. The line is aging, McKenzie is a free agent, Diehl won't be there forever... they need to be thinking about what their line will look like for the next half-decade or so.
James ((IL))
Should the Cowboys sign Flynn and trade Romo? They could get picks and rebuild.
Dan Graziano (12:03 PM)
No. Romo's one of the best QBs in the league, coming off an excellent year. Least of their problems.
Dr. H. Doofenshmirtz (Tri-State Area)
How, exactly, will this whole DeSean Jackson thing ever possibly work? As you pointed out in your first piece on all this, under the new CBA, the union looks into these things to make sure a team is dealing honestly with a player to actually re-sign him, and not just trade him so a team doesn't lose him with no compensation. The paper that broke the story said the Eagles will probably trade him. Anyone who follows football knows the Eagles want to trade him. How is Andy Reid going to make it happen--bribe some NFLPA reps?
Dan Graziano (12:03 PM)
My sense is, if Jackson gets traded to a team that gives him the contract extension, no one's going to make a fuss about inappropriate use of the franchise designation.
Scott (Northglenn, CO)
When Mario Manningham receives the inevitable huge offer from another team, does Cruz move outside? His strength is more in his route-running and quickness than straigth-line speed, right?? He stays in the slot and they find another outside guy?
Dan Graziano (12:05 PM)
Back last August, before he blew up, Cruz was viewed by the Giants' coaching staff as a potentially good slot receiver. I think they like him in that role, and they like the idea of a slot receiver who can go the distance. My sense is they look to replace Manningham with someone on the outside, or stay in-house and see if Barden or someone else can fill the role.
Scott (Northglenn, CO)
How would you rank Manningham, VJax, DJax and Bowe as potential FAs?
Dan Graziano (12:05 PM)
V Jax, Bowe, D Jax, Manningham
James ((IL))
What are your thoughts on the Romo situation?
Dan Graziano (12:05 PM)
Is this like the Bonnie situation?
Mike (New Lisbon)
Manningham going to the skins, your thoughts?
Dan Graziano (12:06 PM)
Meh. I think they can do better.
Matt (MD)
Do you think there is any chance the Cowboys can sign Nicks or are the Saints going to pay the price to keep him and sacrifice say a Colston?
Dan Graziano (12:06 PM)
It sounds as though Nicks will hit the market. He wants to cash in, and I don't think the Saints will want to pay market value. I believe he'll be there for Dallas if they want him.
Luke M (Newark, NJ)
People have been raving about the SB experience in Indy. Any short stories you wanna delve into for us readers that encapsulates the time you spent there?
Dan Graziano (12:07 PM)
Honestly, the town and the people were just so proud and happy to have the game. It was corny, but everybody who worked at the hotels, ran security, etc kept saying "Have a super day!" all week. Just a really pleasant atmosphere. Got a little too crowded downtown on the weekend, but they couldn't have handled things better. They also got incredibly lucky with the weather.
James ((IL))
Is Eli a hall of famer?
Dan Graziano (12:08 PM)
We're going to have to wait until his career ends to figure that out.
Greg (Atl)
what do you think the bigger need is for the skins a RT or a guy on the interior of the o-line?
Dan Graziano (12:08 PM)
Good question. I'd say RT because Brown can't seem to stay healthy and they could always bring back Lichtensteiger, who was playing LG pretty well before he got hurt.
Luke M (Newark, NJ)
What about TE? Ballard and Beckum are out for a good chunk of next yr, so do you see Reese using a high pick (rounds 1-4) on that position? The position was key for Manning to extend drives when the D's chose to shut down Cruz/Nicks all yr.
Dan Graziano (12:09 PM)
Yeah, I've seen some mock drafts where they take the Clemson TE at 32. I think it would make a lot of sense for them to find one in the draft.
Chris (Giants Land, NJ)
Given the season ending in a championship, do you feel that Goff and Thomas getting hurt actually was lucky for the Giants? It helps them keep them, like Kiwanuka last year.
Dan Graziano (12:10 PM)
Yes, if those guys are fully healthy, very similar to the Kiwi situation from last year. But those are still "if"s. If the Giants aren't convinced those guys are healthy, could be more like the Steve Smith situation from last year.
Crash (Florida)
Now we've seen the new kickoff rules in effect for a full season. What are your thoughts on the impact it had on the game? Was it worth the change for safety's sake, or would the league be better served moving the ball back to the 30 to add more excitement to the game?
Dan Graziano (12:10 PM)
I didn't detect a severe dropoff in excitement during this past NFL season.
Scott (Northglenn, CO)
How big of a market will there be for Osi if Mario Williams, Avril and Mathis all hit the FA market like they probably will? That would drive the compensation for him down to like, a 3rd rounder with incentives???
Dan Graziano (12:11 PM)
It's an issue. I still don't think the Texans let Williams hit the market, but if they do, the Giants would certainly have to wait out his situation in order to maximize Osi's value. And there's no reason to trade Osi unless you're getting maximum value for him.
Bryan (Springdale, AR)
What do you make of all the Cowboy fans that are Romo skeptics? After what Dirk did in the playoffs last year for the Mavs, you would think the fans would have more faith in the possibilities of Romo and realize that he is the least of the Cowboys problems. Put Romo on any 8-8 team from last year and that team is most likely in the playoffs.
Dan Graziano (12:12 PM)
Well, ignoring the fact that Romo WAS on an 8-8 team... They won't love him unless/until he wins. May not be fair, but it's fact.
Scott (Northglenn, CO)
Which coach is on the hottest seat in the divison?
Dan Graziano (12:12 PM)
Andy Reid.
Carlos M (New York)
Chase Blackburn is a FA now, do you think he earned his spot back with the giants as a starter next to Boley and Goff (when he comes back)? I also think Sintim may be the odd man out, or is their too much upside to him?
Dan Graziano (12:13 PM)
I don't think they view Blackburn as a starter. I think they consider what he just did the proverbial "lightning in a bottle."
Greg (va)
if peyton lands with mike shanahan does that increase a prime time opener for them opening weekend ?
Dan Graziano (12:13 PM)
I'm sure that'd be tempting. I still predict the Thursday night opener is Packers-Giants.
Z (SD)
Say Dallas signs Nicks, and Routt or Finnegan then gets someone like Upshaw in the draft. Would you be high on Dallas like everyone and the mother was on Philly last offseason?
Dan Graziano (12:14 PM)
I think I'd write what I wrote about Philly last offseason -- that they were having a good offseason.
Chris (Newfoundland)
Would you see Randy Moss or Plaxico Burress as the best in fit in Philly considering there are rumours about both having interest in playing for the Eagles
Dan Graziano (12:15 PM)
No. I don't think Moss can play anymore, and Burress didn't look very useful this past year either.
Cory (DC)
If the Skins get Peyton. Will Kyle let him be Peyton, or try to force him into his offense like McNabb.
Dan Graziano (12:16 PM)
I don't think people really understand what happened with McNabb. The Redskins people I talk to say the biggest thing they asked McNabb to do that he wouldn't do was put in the work during the week. I doubt Manning would offer the same challenge.
Dr. H. Doofenshmirtz (Tri-State Area)
Is there really interest in Peyton Manning in Washington? Or does their name just get thrown out there because of Dan Snyder's history of acquiring free agents?
Dan Graziano (12:16 PM)
I believe it's a real possibility they're considering, along with many others.
Rahim (Newark, N.J.)
Hey Dan any chance the Giants trade up in the first. I think we could afford to give up a 2nd with our first if we can get a starting LB or OG. Or maybe package Osi with our first. I think we need to add a started to one of those positions. Your thoughts????????
Dan Graziano (12:17 PM)
It's not like them to trade up. I'd be surprised.
Codeblue (DC)
Romo > Eli...your thoughts?
Dan Graziano (12:17 PM)
I disagree.
Dan (New York)
Looks like the Giants will have an even tough schedule this upcoming season than in the previous. Who actually makes these schedules and why do the Giants play Greenbay pretty much every year?
Dan Graziano (12:18 PM)
There's a formula for determining a team's opponents each year. I don't know what it is, but I'm sure it's not hard to find it.
Hindsight (20/20)
100 mil to Vick may been a big mistake, but then again I'm always right.
Dan Graziano (12:18 PM)
We shall see. Big year upcoming for Mike.
Gobizzle (D.C.)
Do you think the Cowboys finally move Jay Ratliff to DE this year? seems like he's been wearing down towards the end of the season
Dan Graziano (12:19 PM)
I have a post going up on this issue right after this chat ends. I believe it'd make sense to move him out there. If they can't upgrade over Spencer at OLB, which is a possibility, they'll need playmakers on the ends. I'd look for a big, monster NT to eat up blockers and let Ratliff do his more athletic thing on the edge.
Nick (Westerville, OH)
Will the Redskins have to trade up to get RG3?
Dan Graziano (12:20 PM)
Absolutely. No way he gets to 6. The Browns would take him at 4 if he were still there, but the general consensus is that someone will trade up to 2 or 3 and nab him first.
JBL429 (NYC)
The formula is easy. Play your division 2x. Play another division in your conference on a 3 year rotating cycle. Play a division in the other conference on a 4 year rotating cycle. Play the teams which finished in the same spot in their division in your conference. Done.
Dan Graziano (12:20 PM)
There you go.
Guy (Hoboken)
If you're the Giants, what do you do with Osi? I'd love him to stay, but if there's no future for him with teh team beyond this year, isn't it better to trade him while he's still and impact player and, hopefully, get a second and third round pick for him? Thanks
Dan Graziano (12:20 PM)
Yes, I believe this is the right time to trade Osi, as I have written many times.
Mike (New Lisbon)
If the eagles fail to reach the superbowl this year, having had a full offseason to get the systems on both sides of the ball right, does andy reid finally get boot?
Dan Graziano (12:21 PM)
I don't see how they have to reach the Super Bowl. What if they have the year the Packers just had -- go 15-1 and lose in the playoffs? Can you fire a coach off of that?
Chris (Giants Land, NJ)
How much fun was it covering the Giants this year?
Dan Graziano (12:22 PM)
It was great. Really was. Good group of guys, exciting games, good stories/columns to write... I love watching sports because of the potential of seeing something exciting happen. The Giants delivered over and over again.
Person (DC)
the chargers fired schottenheimer after a 14-2 and one-and-done, so it happens
Dan Graziano (12:23 PM)
It does. And it could. My point is that the Eagles have to have a great season, but that you can have a great season and still not reach the Super Bowl.
Dan Graziano (12:23 PM)
Also, I think there were some personality conflicts in San Diego with Schottenheimer and management.
Greg (va)
is the nfl office watching patyon manning watch too before they make the 2012 nfl schedule like us or is that already in the process and too late to change if PAYTON lands in DC?
Dan Graziano (12:24 PM)
I think the schedule comes out in the summertime. They won't wait for Manning to sign before making it, but the networks will be keeping an eye on where he lands, for sure.
Bill (PA)
Do you feel in this crazy paced sports world we live in that we are glossing over the SB winners? They already have a count down to the draft on ESPN and thoughts on who should keep whom and who gets cut. Can't we just celebrate the SB winning team and their season (It seems like it only lasted a day) Even the GM of the SB winner is discussing his cap options and who to cut; they didn't even get a week to celebrate.
Dan Graziano (12:25 PM)
I'm sorry. Just want to be clear. Your contention is that we haven't written/talked enough about the Giants on here?
Greg (va)
if peyton comes does shanhan still draft a QB too?
Dan Graziano (12:26 PM)
Certainly possible. There are worse guys for a young QB to learn from than Peyton Manning, I'd imagine. Sign Manning for a year or two and draft a kid who needs that much time to be ready? Not a terrible idea.
Dr. H. Doofenshmirtz (Tri-State Area)
If a lot of them aren't franchised, there will be a BUNCH of wide receivers on the market this year. Could Manningham stay in New York because of this?
Dan Graziano (12:27 PM)
Yes. It's possible the glut of free-agent WRs could reduce Manningham's price and send him back to the Giants. But if I were him, I'd want to find out first what people are willing to offer.
Al (Wausau, WI)
Dan, do you think LaRon Landry will be back with the Redskins for the 2012 season?
Dan Graziano (12:27 PM)
No, I do not.
Geronimo (Maryland)
We can all tell Greg wants manning in DC. but do you have to answer every question he has about it?
Dan Graziano (12:27 PM)
As I've said many times, I don't always look at the name on top of the question.
pricecheck (dc)
Dan, I need to settle an argument with a NYG friend. He says the WR corps is mediocre, at best, as Eli makes them goodI say the NYG WR corps is really good (maybe not great) and that Eli and the WRs make each other better.. He clearly never saw Manningham at Michigan. When Manningham is your 3rd best WR, you're in good shape.
Dan Graziano (12:28 PM)
I'm with you. I give Eli credit for maximizing what he has, but he has a lot to maximize. Nicks is an elite talent who works his tail off to be better, and Cruz appears to be cut from similar cloth.
Howie Roseman (Nova Care Complex)
My contract to Mike Vick is only worth around $40 million in guaranteed money. I can cut ties with him relatively easily after next year. If I get high draft picks from moving Asante Samuel or Desean Jackson, I could potentially have a lot of ammo to move up in the draft to potentially get an RG III. Anything holding me back here?
Dan Graziano (12:29 PM)
Not happening. Eagles need to win this year, and Vick is the best way for them to do it. If they crap out again, maybe they move on from Vick and look QB in next year's first round. But right now, they're all-in on Vick for 2012 and need to use first-round pick to make the 2012 team better.
BCP (Croatia)
What's the franchise number for WRs anyway?
Dan Graziano (12:29 PM)
$9.4 million.
Chris (Giants Land, NJ)
Do you feel linebacker is no longer a GIANT issue? (haha)
Dan Graziano (12:30 PM)
I guess. Boley played great, and Kiwanuka really grew into his role. I'd still like to see more stability in the middle, where Goff was supposed to develop this year. Is he the long-term answer there, or are they still looking?
In RoweMo We Trust (Over your left shoulder)
Dan,Is Spencer worthy of a "FRANCHISE" tag in order to "just keep him here"?
Dan Graziano (12:31 PM)
I don't think so, but they do need SOMEONE in that spot, and if they can't find anyone better, the argument could be made. But I think it's $8 million. Is he worth that?
Howie Roseman (Nova Care Complex)
ok so if I need to improve this year, if Blackmon falls to say the 6-10 range, can I package my picks or Desean himself to move up and grab desean's replacement?
Dan Graziano (12:31 PM)
Yeah, see, I like that better.
Ron Mexico (south of the border)
Besides Qb what position do the Redskins spend the most $ on this offseason
Dan Graziano (12:31 PM)
Wide receiver.
Alex (White Plains)
Victor Cruz contract situation: Reese works it out or we create our very own Desean Jackson?
Dan Graziano (12:32 PM)
I think the Cruz situation is a long way from Jackson territory, and the young man is going to have to understand he's just not very high on the priority list at this point.
TimVB (Arlington)
Skins are a RT away from being the best O-line in the division. Thoughts?
Dan Graziano (12:32 PM)
Disagree. The Eagles' OL played great this year.
Mark (Oregon)
If the Skins do franchise Davis, can they still use the transition tag on Landry?
Dan Graziano (12:33 PM)
No, I think the new CBA did away with that. And again, with Landry, they're not going to guarantee him any money. They don't know if he's healthy. He didn't play that great when he was. I believe they will move on.
Matt (Cincinnati OH)
From your informed perspective, how ridiculous is it that some media and fans continually pick on Romo? He chokes in the 4th quarter. No, actually his Q4 stats are better than most. You cant win a Super Bowl with him. The Cowboys couldnt win a Super Bowl with Eli Manning or Tom Brady with their poor OL and terrible secondary. Please, please, please provide some perspective on this.
Dan Graziano (12:33 PM)
I try. But again, those who don't like him won't change their minds until he's holding up a Super Bowl trophy.
andy sing (bronx,ny)
should the ny giants keep jacobs or part ways or get a next RB in the draft
Dan Graziano (12:34 PM)
I'd move on from Jacobs. They already have some younger RBs they can work into the rotation more, and I don't think he's delivering big value for his price.
Chris (Giants Land, NJ)
If your Reese do you perhaps say to Cruz "Listen, we understand you are a big part of the team but we need to wait for the cap to open up after next season."
Dan Graziano (12:34 PM)
Sure, and I'm sure he will. But if you're Cruz, you're still smart to try and strike while the iron is hot. What if you get hurt next year? What if you only catch 45 balls for 600 yards?
Chris (Giants Land, NJ)
Going back to my linebacker question, you don't think there is a starter out of Herzlich, Paysinger, Williams and Jones?
Dan Graziano (12:35 PM)
It's possible, but is any of those guys the MLB they need? Or are they all role players? For instance, I love Williams in coverage, but can he be a more complete player than that? They need to find that out.
Mike (New Lisbon)
Does perry riley take the next step on d for the skins and will jarvis jenkins come back with a vengence?
Dan Graziano (12:35 PM)
Yes, I like both of those players a lot, and the Redskins do too. Both big parts of a still-emerging, very good defense, in my opinion.
Dr. H. Doofenshmirtz (Tri-State Area)
I'm confused--has Cruz demanded a new contract?
Dan Graziano (12:36 PM)
Not demanded, but he has said he believes he should get a raise.
James ((IL))
Should Colts move on from Manning or use him as a teacher for Luck? Personally I think it would be better for Manning to stay. Think of what would happen. Brett Favre and A-Rod. Joe Montana and Steve Young. And Drew Brees and Philip Rivers. What do you think?
Dan Graziano (12:37 PM)
"Should" doesn't matter in this situation. The finances prohibit it. Manning is due a $28 million roster bonus on March 8. There's no way they're paying that AND THEN giving Luck his $23 million rookie deal AND paying Manning's 2012 salary. They'd be spending something like $51 million on quarterback alone this year. Manning will be a free agent. It's a done deal.
Jeremy (Rockland)
I think Herzlich can be the long-term answer at middle LB... he was projected to be a 1st rounder before his illness wasn't he?
Dan Graziano (12:38 PM)
Oh, Jeremy. Herzlich was an absolute monster before he got sick. One of the best defensive players in the country. There's no doubt, if he can ever get back to the level at which he was playing before his illness, he can be whatever he wants to be in the NFL. But we're a long way from knowing if he can.
Patrick (NYC)
Which O-Lineman for the Giants do you see returning next year. I think Baas, Snee and Boothe are the only guarantees.
Dan Graziano (12:39 PM)
I believe Diehl will be back. They just love his versatility and everything he brings as a leader, teacher, etc. And I expect Beatty to get another shot.
Geronimo (Maryland)
This is an NFC east chat why are you taking questions about the Colts and what they should do?Last time I checked they were not in the NFC East.
Dan Graziano (12:39 PM)
Yeah, I hear ya, but the Manning thing has a Redskins connection, so why not.
CowboysLoyal (TX)
How do you think Dallas addresses their o-line?
Dan Graziano (12:40 PM)
I think they go get a free-agent guard, figure out which of last year's rookies will make the best center, bring back Kosier and make Smith and Free switch sides.
John (Wisconsin)
Any chance the Packers tag Flynn and try to trade him?
Dan Graziano (12:40 PM)
No, I don't think so. The QB tag is very high, and would make him difficult to trade. And then they'd be stuck paying $15 million or whatever to their backup QB. I think they'll franchise Finley.
Codeblue (DC)
Who is your personal favorite football team?
Dan Graziano (12:41 PM)
I really don't have one.
Daniel Snyder (Potomac, MD)
How many more years of neglecting his defense, o-line, and running backs before people get off my back and realize Jerrald is the worst owner in the division?
Dan Graziano (12:41 PM)
I guess I just don't get this. They drafted a tackle in the first round last year and a starting running back in the third.
Kevin (NYC)
It's easy to say DAL couldn't win the SB with Eli or Brady, but lets not forget that Brady's secondary was even weaker, and the Cowboys D outplayed the Giants D for most of the year. Bottom line: Eli and Brady have been better than Romo in big spots throughout their careers. Am I wrong?
Dan Graziano (12:42 PM)
No, I don't think you are wrong.
Chris (Giants Land, NJ)
Dan, clearly your favorite football team is the Ridgewood Maroons....Right?
Dan Graziano (12:42 PM)
Yeah, I mean, I guess. Just been a while since I've been to one of their games...
Matt (DC)
Why are you chatting? Go on vacation already!!! : )
Dan Graziano (12:42 PM)
Oh it'll happen...
Blair F. (Philly)
I think Washington acquiring Peyton is a foolish thing to rely on if your Washington. I don't see him signing in the NFC East due to his beloved little brother owns this division. No way he wants to play Eli twice a year and steal his thunder even more than Peyton does already. This make sense or am I just imagining this? Is anyone there? Is this thing on....??
Dan Graziano (12:43 PM)
I think you and others are, in fact, imagining this. How is Eli still in Peyton's shadow at this point anyway?
Paul (NYC)
Dan, I don't understand how the Giants can be over the cap. Especially since they have around 21 unrestricted free agents coming off the books. Do you have an idea of how this is possible?
Dan Graziano (12:43 PM)
They have some big contracts on their books (Eli, Rolle, Boley, etc.) And I'm sure a number of their guys reached incentive triggers this year. And they were right up against it a year ago.
Patrick (NYC)
In light of the Amukamara pick, does it make it less likely that the Giants will bring back both Ross and Thomas?
Dan Graziano (12:43 PM)
Yes.
Dr. H. Doofenshmirtz (Tri-State Area)
Everyone (not just you) talks about all these moves the Cowboys are going to make. But aren't they right up against the cap? How do they clear up space?
Dan Graziano (12:44 PM)
They're not right up against the cap. They have $12.667 million in cap room before doing any restructures. They could have about $20 million in cap room by the time free agency starts.
Alex (NY)
What about Ryan Tannenhill out of A&M... he'd be a good fit for the 'Skins and they likely wouldn't have to trade up. This could allow them to pursue some WR FA's. Thoughts?
Dan Graziano (12:46 PM)
He's a wild card. Converted WR who I think made 30 college starts at QB. Can he move all the way up to No. 6 pick territory between now and April 26? He's not there yet, from what I've seen, but he could be this year's Christian Ponder -- a guy who goes much sooner than anyone expected because of the importance placed on that position. Long time between now and the draft. I always go back to two years ago, when at this point Mark Sanchez was a late first-rounder but the Jets traded all the way up to 5 to pick him on Day One.
Gary (Los Feliz)
If you are Jerrah, who do take with pick 14?
Dan Graziano (12:46 PM)
I'd go with the best pass rusher or defensive back available, depending on which area I addressed better in free agency.
Chris (Giants Land, NJ)
Do you blame Reese for cap mismanagement? Or is the Giants cap situation just the result of being caught in the lockout, unforeseeable as it were.
Dan Graziano (12:47 PM)
I think the GM has to shoulder some of the blame, yes. But people get mad when I say bad things about Jerry Reese. So we'll just keep this one between you and me, okay?
Tim (Leonardtown, MD)
what will washington have to give up in order to get to the number 2 or 3 spot and grab RG3?
Dan Graziano (12:47 PM)
I think it's got to be this year's first, next year's first and more. And that's a lot.
Christoph (Dover, NJ)
I miss Matt Mosley. :(
Dan Graziano (12:48 PM)
I do too. Haven't seen him since the night JPP blocked the kick. Thought he'd show up for the regular-season finale in NJ but he didn't. Good dude. I'll tell him you said hi.
Hans Gillan (Boca Raton)
What is the Eagles cap space as of right now? ...and after predicted cuts and or trades? Think Cullen Jenkins will get cut or traded?
Dan Graziano (12:49 PM)
We have it at about $14 million under right now. And no, I don't think Jenkins is going anywhere.
C. Water (Skooler's House)
Do you realize that in your last article you stated that the Redskins were over $47 billion under the cap?
Dan Graziano (12:49 PM)
Ha. That is a typo, if that is true.
Andy Sing (Bronx,NY)
everyone says romo is a choke artist when it comes down to the big play in a game but really it is the WR's and RB's that let him down what is your take
Dan Graziano (12:50 PM)
I think he takes too much blame, but such is the life of the quarterback. Especially in Dallas.
Tim (Leonardtown, MD)
do you think washington will go after a dominant receiver in free agency or draft young talent? And if so who?
Dan Graziano (12:52 PM)
Shanahan considers No. 1 WR a top priority this offseason. I believe you'll see them go after guys like Dwayne Bowe, Vincent Jackson, Stevie Johnson, maybe Marques Colston. I think they'll aim high here. Maybe take Blackmon in the draft if they don't get the FA they want.
BCP (Croatia)
Can you really blame a guy for being against the cap and winning the SB? Pats are a long way from the cap, which means their CB is a college QB turned receiver...
Dan Graziano (12:53 PM)
No, I cannot. The Giants are champions. What else matters? Not what I think of their 2011 offseason or cap management, certainly.
AB (virginia)
if osi leaves, do you think the giants keep kiwi and his cureent LB spot or will he have his hand on the ground rushing off the corner more, considering how much tom c. likes to rotate his defenive lineman
Dan Graziano (12:54 PM)
I think they'd move Kiwi back up front and fill in at LB.
Chris (NY)
If Redskins don't make a move at QB of the future (i.e. for the next 8+ seasons) this year, then when? How long can you really afford to wait on such an important position?
Dan Graziano (12:55 PM)
You really can't ignore it. But you also can't create one if he's not there. The Redskins have enough other needs that they shouldn't mortgage everything to get their long-term QB solution in this year's draft.
Todd (Pa)
Let's say Boys' sign Nicks n Finn or Routt then draft time comes and can pick between Kirkpatrick/Upshaw or Kirkpatrick/Ingram wouldn't you take the pass rusher if ur GM? IMO they are both needs but I feel pass rush or lack there of is the bigger issue. Thoughts?
Dan Graziano (12:56 PM)
Yes. In your scenario, with OL and DB already addressed in free agency, I would take the pass rusher at 14.
Geronimo (Maryland)
If Fletcher comes back does anyone have a better Linebacker Corp in the NFL than the Redskins?
Dan Graziano (12:57 PM)
Jeez, I don't know. Steelers? There are some great ones, but the Redskins are in the discussion, for me.
Rob Ryan (Valley Ranch)
Is finnegan going to even hit the market?
Dan Graziano (12:58 PM)
I think so. I think Tennessee wants to keep the safety, Griffin, instead, from what I have been told.
Chris (Giants Land, NJ)
What about the 49er's Great linebackers? no?
Dan Graziano (12:58 PM)
Yup.
Rob Ryan (Valley Ranch)
the Texans have a better LB Corps
Dan Graziano (12:59 PM)
I would agree with this as well.
Brad (DC)
Redskins may only have one shot at getting a Franchise QB by trading down and picking up future draft picks and hoping the can make a deal for next years "can't miss" rookie.
Dan Graziano (12:59 PM)
I do like the Barkley kid a lot.
Al (Wausau, WI)
Happy Valentine's Day, Dan!
Dan Graziano (12:59 PM)
To you as well. All of you. Enjoy it. See you here next week.
