Mark "Guru" Garrow (2:56 PM)
Good afternoon everyone...welcome to Daytona..the Sprint Cup cars on the track for the second time today with temperatures in the 70's...This is a new Fantasy season and I hope you're all signed up for the SCC Challenge and my Jayski Junkies league where I'm going to reward the winners and the champion of my league personally. So with that let's get to the questions.
Chris (Alton IL)
Do you think David Reutimann will race in all 36 Cup races this year and if so do you think he will place higher in the points then he did last year?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (2:58 PM)
Reutimann might not end up running all the races this year...if he does can he finish better in the points than 28th, which is where he wound up in 2011? It's possible, but with lower budget team it might be difficult. Again, he might not run them all though.
Chris (Alton IL)
Do you think Danica will set the world on fire in Nationwide this year or just do what is expected, finish in the top 10 in points (I'm guessing around 9th) with one or two top5s and 5 to 8 top10's?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:03 PM)
I think Danica is going to find some success this year on the Nationwide Series, but I'm not sure I would put it in the category of "setting the world of fire". She should finish top-10 in points between fifth and ninth as I look at it. I think she'll have more top-5s and top-10s than you do too.
nascar fan (fl)
Which team do you recommend team A 24 39 88 15 21 or team B 24 99 88 21 and then 31 or 55?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:05 PM)
I like the second team a little better and I want to caution you that Bayne is an automatic trade for Phoenix so keep that in mind. Another darkhorse at a great price you might want to think about is Jamie McMurray.
jgfan (fl)
55 or 42?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:07 PM)
That's going to be a tough call if this ends up an "old school" plate race. If that happens give Martin a slight advantage, but Montoya has put up some nice numbers here at Daytona. He was top-10 in both races last year and has been top-10 in four of the last five.
Tim (alabama)
which 6 drivers from last years chase do you think is going to have the best 2012 season and you would have to have them on your fantasy team?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:12 PM)
I think Carl Edwards would head that list. He seems so determined to win more races and the title. I'd also go with Tony Stewart and Kyle Busch. I think Kevin Harvick makes the top-six cut..Jimmie Johnson...and one more..I think I'll go with Matt Kenseth...Hope that helps Tim.
Bob Dole (Fl)
Hey man, welcome back! How does 88, 18, 9, 2, 22. I think the dodges will stay in the back till the end and win!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:14 PM)
Bob, I'm not as confident in the Dodges as you are maybe but both Keselowski and Allmendinger should be pretty racy. On paper that team appears pretty strong..I think Ambrose in the 9 is a rocket, but worry a little bit out his lack of experience with this kind of drafting. Still, he looked good in the Bud Shootout and most of the big boys were in that race.
gibsonian (fl)
Hey Mark! Can you recall what drivers road around in the back in last years 500? By the way...hows the hip?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:18 PM)
Off hand I don't know who were the "riders" last season, but we'll see some of that Sunday, but not sure how much because you won't be able to afford to hang too far back or the pack will leave you. As for the hip, it's doing well and the titanium ball and socket are just getting enough mileage to say they are now officially "broken in"...sort of piston and rings kind of deal..lol
gordy (carpentersville,il)
welcome back Mark.. was wondering have you scraped your game you were working on last year .or are you still working on it
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:19 PM)
Gordy it's good to have you back..I had to put my game on the side burner because of a side issue, but it will eventually hit the street and you'll be the first to know...Hope you're well.
gordy (carpentersville,il)
what do you think of this team mark 99,16,88,9,20
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:20 PM)
Not bad...I wouldn't lock in, though, until we get a look at what happens tomorrow in the Gatorade Duels.
Jon (WV)
How do you think Jeff Gordan is going to do this year?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:22 PM)
I think he'll win a couple of races and make the Chase and I think he'll be more competitive in the final ten races than last year. I'm not sure I see him winning another championship though. It would be great to see, but he's 40 now and record book indicates that would be tall mountain to climb at his age. But he's in great shape and is one of the best of all-time so he's got a shot.
Del (Chicago)
Where would you rate Mark Martin and his 25 races in relation to the rest of the full schedule field?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:25 PM)
Del, that's a pretty tough question. It's hard to say until we get a pretty good look at that team working together not only here at Daytona, but more importantly the following week at Phoenix. He should put up better numbers than Reutimann and it may be just a matter of that new deal jelling before it really takes off.

Bob Dole (FL)
Ok, who should I change to. I have 88 locked in in my mind but who else should I have. I think for Daytona I should pick teammates. But which teammates can I pick and stay in the cap?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:28 PM)
You might want to look at the Roush Fenway racing bunch with Carl Edwards as the headliner...You might want to think about Stewart-Newman..Again Bob, I'd really wait until after the Duels tomorrow before I start cementing things in your mind. At this point, the Fords appear to have a little bit more overall speed and it will be interesting to see how that plays out tomorrow.
Bypass Ken (Hendersonville)
Mark: What is the engine rule at Daytona this year? I seem to remember that at Daytona the teams are allowed to change engines without penalty. The one engine rule is a little crazy given the number of laps run.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:43 PM)
I wouldn't call you Bypass Ken...Maybe "Zipper"...now if we could just get one of those for your mouth...lol....Yes they have a different engine rule here at Daytona. They are allowed to change engines after tomorrow's qualifying races and many will time that for the final practice before the 500.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
Who do you think will win the Drive4COPD 300 at Daytona & the Daytona 500?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:45 PM)
Well Chris on Saturday it would be tough to bet against Tony Stewart. He's won that race six times, including the last four. Call it the "Nationwide Knack"....As for Sunday there's 15 favorites..but I would put Stewart into the mix with Carl Edwards and then maybe Junior, Kyle and Jeff Gordon.
Bypass Ken (Hendersonville)
You know the Dr. asked me if I did anything different shortly before my operation and I told him I had l a barbeque lunch with an old friend who was paying off a very old bet he lost?he suggested that the shock of finally being paid off probably put me over the edge and was the reason for the surgery so it looks like you get the blame?should I send you the bill?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:55 PM)
No, don't send me the bill...I have another suggestion but it involves rolling it up.....
Tim (Alabama)
where do you see 2 (Bad Brad) at the end of the season, top 6 or top 8?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:56 PM)
The way he ran at the end of the year in the Chase, he and that team were really coming into their own. So, yes,I can see that happening.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
Do you think that Danica Patrick will win a Nationwide Series Race & a Sprint Cup Series Race this Season?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:58 PM)
I think she definitely has a shot to win one of the Nationwide Series for a couple of reasons. One, she has more experience in that series. Secondly, the competition isn't quite as strong as it is on the Sprint Cup circuit. When it comes to that series she'll be all about learning and gaining experience. Winning is always the ultimate goal, but they'll need to get lucky for her to win a Cup race. I'm looking forward to seeing her all season. She's feisty and will be a nice addition to NASCAR on a full-time basis.
Ken (Hendersonville)
Now a serious question. Based on the teams changing engines should the final practice be the most important?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (4:00 PM)
I think you have to pay really close attention to tomorrow's races. Keep an eye for when they guys and Danica seem to be racing really hard. Edwards and Biffle might not race hard the whole time, but there will be pockets when they will and you have to watch for those. That will be more important than the last practice in my opinion. Need to see who's got what when they are all trying and at certain points we'll see that in both Duels tomorrow.
B.B. (Salisbury Nc)
Howdy Guru. Your buddy nin salisbury again :) do u think that kurt busch will be strong all year. Not sure how he will run Thanks as always Be looking fo ru on sunday
Mark "Guru" Garrow (4:03 PM)
I think Kurt will really step it up for Phoenix Racing...not sure how they'll jump out of the box..but they should be pretty decent once they find their groove. Remember this is still a very small team...I'll keep an eye out for you Sunday morning...you'll be the guy with the red rose between his teeth right?..lol
Mark "Guru" Garrow (4:04 PM)
That's going to do it for now. Don't forget our race day chat Sunday will start at 9:30 eastern time. Looking forward to it...but now must announce..."The Guru has left the building!"
