Sorry for the delay folks....had a little trouble signing in today..but it's now all good and let's get this partaaaayyyy started.
Bill Scott (Lake Summerset, Illinois)
Hell-o Mark, It's great to have Fantasy Focus up and running. Our efforts garnered me a cool $425.00 profit last year. I will not be sharing it with you because I fronted all the cash! Mark, you really are a helper and entertain at the same time. Looking at Phoenix, will it be a repeat of the fall race after the repave? I don't have either of the Busch brothers on my roster and plan on leaving Kurt on the sideline all season. Kyle is usually HOT early in the campaign. Will he be up front Sunday? Being a big 17 fan, will there be a Daytona hangover? I'll be on board with your chat Sunday. Thanks for Garage Pass. Later, Bill
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:25 PM)
Bill, I think the Roush cars are going to bad to the bone again...and that means Ambrose and Almirola will be sleepers like they were at Daytona..They don't get mixed up in trouble and they put up some big numbers...I think Kenny Francis brings a nice package over with Kasy Kahne and they'll be fast again as will I think Tony Stewart and I think Kyle will be right there too. A good dark-horse will be Jeff Burton.
YOU DOING A VERY GOOD JOB AT WANT ARE YOU DOING
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:25 PM)
Thanks Justin that means a lot...have a great day.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
Who do you think will win the Bahas Supermarkets 200 & the Subway Fresh Fit 500 at Phoenix?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:27 PM)
I like Hamlin on Saturday or maybe teammate Joey Logano..Stenhouse and Sadler are the sleepers I think in that race..Sunday I think Carl Edwards is going to be very, very good.
James (Rochester, NY)
What was your reaction to this year's Daytona 500
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:28 PM)
That was one of the craziest deals I have ever been involved in during all my years in this business. Running into a jet dryer and then it explodes in a ball of blame? That's right out of Hollywood...But if they had put that scene in Days of Thunder, we would have ripped them a new one saying it was fake and would never happen in a million years...lol
Paul (West Orange)
Is this the week to use Newmania? He is the man on the short, flat tracks. Or do I take a wait and see approach for this team? Love reading your chats every week.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:30 PM)
This might be a nice week to use Newman because of his short track prowess, but I would still wait and see..it's early in the season and some teams jump out of the box quick and are like bottle rockets that land four or five races into the year and don't do much after..So, I'd play wait and see and thanks for the props.
hows this line up 17,88,16,11,31,27,20,99
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:31 PM)
Good line-up Dave..the only two question marks in my opinion and they are not big ones are the 27 and the 20. If they come through you could be sitting pretty.
Hi Mark! What do you think of this team 88,24,48,18,& 83 or go with 17
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:37 PM)
Jill, the 83 scares me..and one thing about the 17 scares me..Last year Kenseth won three races, but his best finish the week after was 14th so he has issues apparently getting it done back to back. Still worth keeping an eye on as the weekend progresses, thouh.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
What was the NASCAR Race that was on Leap Day February 29?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:39 PM)
In 1976 they ran on February 29th at Rockingham..it was a Hall of Fame top-five with Richard Petty winning followed by Darrell Waltrip, Cale Yarborough, Buddy Baker, and Benny Parsons.
Mark, I'm wondering why Rick Hendrick is appealing the suspension/pts of the 48 car when Jeff Gordon is the 'official' owner of the car? Seems to me it just makes it easier for Nascar to ignore the appeal.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:41 PM)
No matter what a piece of paper says Craig...Hendrick is the real owner and he swears Johnson's car was run in all four plate races last and went to NASCAR's R & D center over the winter and got a clean bill of health..and the body, according to Hendrick, has never been altered.
Do you think Jeff Burton can back up his performance this week at Phoenix?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:46 PM)
I do...this team found something at the end of last season and he finished the year on a high note after struggling just about the entire Sprint Cup Series campaign..He was fourth on the new surface at Phoenix and thought it was one of their best runs of the year. And he really likes the new place.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
Which Drivers has Competed in Both the Indianapolis 500 & the Daytona 500 in History Counting the 2012 Daytona 500?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:50 PM)
I don't probably have the complete list but Mario Andretti, Johnny Rutherford, AJ Foyt, Tony Stewart, Donnie Allison, Bobby Allison, Cale Yarborough, Robbie Gordon, John Andretti...those are the names off the top of my head...also Al Unser, Jr.
Seems slow today, so I'll try for a 3rd question..... Hamlin or Stewart this week. Who would you pick?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:58 PM)
Tony got kind of messed up playing it safe in Daytona 500..but I liked the way Hamlin looked...but real racing starts this week..I think we need to really pay attention to qualifying and practice before we start getting too serious..One thing about it Hamlin and ex-Stewart crew chief Darian Grubb have something to prove and that is always worth something. If Hamlin has a solid run this weekend, then we'll really know they are heading in the right direction..but tell tale race is the following week at Las Vegas since there are so many 1.5 mile speedways on the schedule.
He won in the fall, with Red Bull. What to expect from the #5 team on Sunday?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:59 PM)
I think Kasey will be tough again because he's brought along crew chief Kenny Francis with him over to Hendrick Motorsports. Kahne if you remember was sixth in this race a year ago on the old surface also with Red Bull Racing.
Paul (Stockton, CA)
Hi mark, glad tohave you back! how will the suspension's to Knaus and Malec efect the 48 preformane?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (4:00 PM)
I'm sure Rick Hendrick has a strong fall back plan..but it will hurt no doubt about that...Then again, when you have Jimmie Johnson you always have a fighting chance any given Sunday.
How do you like Mark Martin this week in the #55? He has scored a top 10 in five of his last nine at Phoenix. Also, what your thoughts on Bobby Labonte this week? Thanks!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (4:04 PM)
First, Bobby Labonte did nothing at Phoenix last year...old or new surface so lose that thought right there..Secondly, Martin was okay at Phoenix on the old surface finishing sixteenth in Hendrick car..Meanwhile David Reutimann scored a seventh place finish in car Martin is now driving. He bears watching. I had Martin on my team for Daytona and talked myself out of it because of the overheating issues with the Toyota engines..but it lived and I messed up dropping him for McMurrayl
Mark "Guru" Garrow (4:05 PM)
Sorry folks I've got to run and now that we've solved the sign in issues...we'll get off on time next week which will allow me to bring you the usual top-30 rankings etc...have a great day and a great week...said to say but must "The Guru has left the building!"
