Tom Carpenter (10:58 AM)
Welcome to another Tuesday fantasy hoops chat. Let's get to it!
who has more upside at PF/C rest of season, Udoh or Biyombo?
Tom Carpenter (10:59 AM)
I'll take Udoh ... he's better prepared to do more damage in statistical terms, plus he has a legit shot at doing just that as a full-time starter.
Your thoughts on M.Brooks going forward! I could add: Shumpert,B.Davis,Booker,Blatche,V.Carter,Ayon. Standard cat 9.
Tom Carpenter (11:00 AM)
I definitely like Brooks the most from that group going forward. He should finish on a strong note this season. Definitely keep an eye on Blatche, too. Not buying yet, but the potential to be big the final month or so is still there.
Steve (Green Bay)
When do you expect Wilson Chandler to sign, and will he be a productive fantasy player again?
Tom Carpenter (11:03 AM)
It's a complicated situation, because the Nugs aren't going to bring him in this season unless they can extend his contract. Neither side should be extremely motivated to do that at this point, so it's possible we won't even see him on the court this season. Nonetheless, he has considerable upside and is worth consideration if you can stash him. The high-end play of Afflalo lately could limit Chandler's potential and may keep the Nugs from bringing Chandler in ASAP, though.
Keper question...8 cat...I get to keep 5 out of KD, Westbrook,Jsmooth,Blake(Monroe or Rondo) leaning towards Monroe over Rondo?
Tom Carpenter (11:07 AM)
This is a tight one. Since your other guys give you pretty good dimes for their positions, you could just stick with Monroe to round out your percentages, but I think looking forward another couple of years, Rondo's scoring will continue to rise and he'll probably give you more overall in fantasy terms than Monroe. Picture 17 ppg, 8.5 apg, 1.8 spg and a solid FG% for Rondo eventually.
Hi! Could I have advice on how I would handle Wilson Chandler and Greivis Vasquez? Both are in murky situations right now and Im considering dropping both of them, but their potential is not to be disregarded. Im currently in a 16 team roto league.
Tom Carpenter (11:09 AM)
I wouldn't have a problem moving on from both of them if there's a better option on your waiver wire. However, if your league has 16 teams, there's a pretty good chance there aren't better options. Vazquez should still have some good weeks and Chandler's upside remains intact if he can get a contract worked out.
max (los angeles CA)
i see tyreke evans now has F eligibility. is it possible this could change? i wan to trade for him if hes a forward
Tom Carpenter (11:10 AM)
Once a player gets a position added to his eligibility it sticks for the season. So for the rest of this campaign, Tyreke will be eligible at PG, SG and SF.
Hey Tom curious what your opinion on Carlos Boozer is for the rest of the year, is he worth holdin onto for rest of the season or is a good person to try and trade right now? He's having a career low season and Rip is looking like he's getting back into the rotation, seems like Boozer's offensive role might diminish rest the year once Rips back to game shape.
Tom Carpenter (11:13 AM)
I'm not worried about Rip stealing Boozer's fire ... I'm far more worried about a 30-year-old, oft-injured big man like Boozer breaking down as usual. He really only had fantasy value before because he was a volume producer. Now he doesn't (and won't) get volume shots, so you're left with a guy who will struggle to get 15-8 and doesn't block shots or dime. I'd look to move him before it gets worse.
dylan (iowa city,Ia)
going forward who would be a better fantasy player kenneth faried or nene
Tom Carpenter (11:16 AM)
I expect them to cap each other, so neither one may be the correct answer. If you've seen Faried play the past couple of games, you can see he has the physical skills to do some real damage. But Nene's a vet who can do a lot of the same things. In the end, both should be able to help in deeper leagues but won't offer the full-blown value they could with more minutes.
can the celtics have a good season?
Tom Carpenter (11:18 AM)
Yes, several years from now. They sold their future to get that one title with KG and Ray-Ray, and now it's time for them to pay the proverbial piper. Keep savoring that title and hope Ainge can diminish the blow of all your team gave up to get KG and Ray.
Which 2 of these guys would you go with for the rest of the year? MarShon Brooks, Gerald Henderson, Josh Howard?
Tom Carpenter (11:19 AM)
I like Brooks more, but consider Henderson in H2H leagues because the Bobs play more games than most teams will in the fantasy playoffs.
What do you think about a Dwight Howard trade to the Detroit Pistons? Would it be possible for Dwight Howard and Greg Monroe to coexist and would that make them the best 4-5 combo in the league?
Tom Carpenter (11:23 AM)
Yes, we Pistons fans can dream ... but Howard ain't coming to The D as much as we might wish it. We just don't have the draw to woo a guy like Howard. We'll have to settle for working through the draft and making good decisions via trades and FA. We have a good start with Monroe and Knight, but we'll have to hope Joe D can swap Ben G or Stuckey for the right guy and make another solid draft choice. Mostly, we need to get back to losing games so we can have another high draft pick!
Who would you rather have going forward, Jarret Jack or Brandon Knight?
Tom Carpenter (11:26 AM)
If the Pistons didn't have Stuckey in the mix, I'd take Knight. But he is in the mix, so Knight's upside is going to be capped. I'd take Jack for the stretch run.
What's up with Iguodala? Would you keep him for the rest of the season or move on?
Tom Carpenter (11:29 AM)
I certainly wouldn't dump him. Just take the scoring out of the equation and Iggy's a pretty damn nice fantasy option. There's still the chance he gets dealt before the deadline, which likely would increase his value. Regardless, if you need scoring, try packaging up Iggy with another player to try and get what you need in a trade.
Jamal Crawford, should we be worried? He's been on fire lately but there are trade rumors going around. Should we trade him?
Tom Carpenter (11:33 AM)
Crawford has been a frustrating guy for us for a long time. He's one of those guys who is great at piling up big stats but not so good at winning games. That's why he made a perfect fit with the Hawks as a stat-stuffer off the bench. To that end, he was cranking out big numbers as a starter with the Blazers the past week but after going 1-4 with him as a starter, he was back to the pine last night. It's going to be hard to get much (any) trade value for him after last night. He should still contribute as a reserve, though. So don't give up. A trade to another NBA team could make things better or worse ... depends entirely on the landing spot.
dan (dynasty league)
I'm getting worried about I. Thomas... should I be?
Tom Carpenter (11:35 AM)
I wouldn't worry about him in a dynasty league. I think he has a legit shot at becoming a reliable fantasty option ... eventually. This season, he should have another brief streak or two of success like we saw recently, but I don't think we can count on him to be reliable the rest of the way.
Hey Tom, I was wondering your thoughts on Amar'e Stoudemire. He was my second round pick at 18th overall and obviously he has been underperforming this season. I thought that once Lin came into play he would play better but it hasn't happened yet. Is he worth holding on to or trading? I am in major need of FG%, FT% and blocks.
Tom Carpenter (11:40 AM)
I love Stoudemire's game and watching him play. However, as a fantasy option, if you aren't prone to blocking shots, stealing balls, draining threes or diming in a big way you won't have great fantasy value without getting off a lot of FG and FT shots. He's taking 4 fewer field-goal attempts and 3 fewer free-throw attempts this season, so it's no surprise that he's not the stud we're used to. While I expect his FG% to rise to a respectable level, I don't expect his attempts to rise enough to make him back into a fantasy star this season. I'd sell if you can get the right buyer.
melo or monroe?
Tom Carpenter (11:43 AM)
Monroe is the safer option, IMO. He should at least maintain his current pace and likely exceed it. If you're looking for a terrific buy-low candidate who can have 5-6 weeks in the top 10-15 in fantasy, go for Melo. I really think he's going to be a monster down the stretch. He's healthy and has a LOT to prove. Notice how every PG wants to torch Lin now? You think Melo doesn't have the same sense desire to show who's been playing at an elite level for years -- not just a couple of weeks. I'm buying on both Melo and Monroe in fantasy.
In a vaccuuuuummm (minneapolis )
Felton or Blatche going forward. Nice start by felton but are you really buying him?
Tom Carpenter (11:46 AM)
Can't say I'm buying on either of them right now, but obviously both have plenty of upside. I'd lean toward your needs: PG or big man stats. That aside, I'd go with Felton in a vacuuuuuuuuuuuuuummmm.
Trade Monroe or Millsap for Pierce? I'm very thin at SF.. I have Aldridge, Garnett, Dally, and Udoh for bigs.. Figure Monroe or Millsap since neither block shots.
Tom Carpenter (11:48 AM)
Sure, if that fits your needs. Pierce should be solid down the stretch. I'd lean toward dealing Millsap over Monroe, because he appears to be on Utah's trading block ... and could end up in a worse situation if he is dealt.
Tom Carpenter (11:53 AM)
There are some similarities: Lopez missed zero games in his first three seasons, Yao missed two and both are big guys. I think Yao's body was in a much worse situation, though, at 7-foot-6 and 310 pounds -- that's six more inches and 45 more pounds than Lopez has to deal with. I think Lopez is just dealing with a unique situation and should be fine going forward (barring news to the contrary). Keep him and hope he ends up as the primary option for his team next season. Still a ton of upside.
Do you think that Jerry Bayless will be starting shortly in Toronto?
Tom Carpenter (11:55 AM)
I think he will be starting soon after the NBA trade deadline. I think the Raps are showcasing Calderon right now for trade purposes. Whether he's dealt or not, I think they will likely turn to Bayless for the final weeks of the season -- looking to the future. He has a lot of fantasy upside and I have him stashed on a couple of my rosters in deeper leagues.
Felton or Dev Harris?....Pek or Varajeo?
Tom Carpenter (11:55 AM)
Felton and Pek.
What player that is currently available in most leagues do you think breaks out in the coming weeks?
Tom Carpenter (11:57 AM)
Paul George, Bayless and Udoh are good waiver targets right now.
Tom Carpenter (12:00 PM)
Blocks: Udoh ... boards: Verajao ... Since Udoh just got the starting job and AV remains at least a week or two away, I'd roll with Udoh for now or stash AV for H2H playoffs.
Tom Carpenter (12:02 PM)
As always, I had a blast with today's chat. Thanks to everyone for the interesting questions. For more trade targets check out my top six targets in my Grand Theft Roto column which will be up this afternoon ... and tune back in next week, same time, same place!
