Dick Vitale (11:01 AM)
Great to be with you as the Madness is something special. That first night of the tournament was unreal, with Western Kentucky coming back from 16 down with five minutes left to win, and BYU rallying from a 25-point deficit to beat Iona. There is nothing like March Madness, the best three weeks in sports. I am flying up to Bristol for the next few days to do SportsCenter and Tournament special shows. I look forward to see Rece, Digger, Jay, Hubert and the gang, plus we have special guest coaches coming in -- Seth Greenberg of Virginia Tech today and Villanova's Jay Wright tomorrow. Jay will be one of the honorees at the Dickie V gala on May 18th and I am so excited about that. March Mayhem is in full swing and by the end of the weekend, the big boys will march on to the Sweet 16.
Dennis (Evansville Indiana)
I woke up and realized IU is playing in March. Today is a good day Dickie V! WIN LOSE or DRAW i am so happy to see my HOOSIERS back in the Big Dance. Praise TOM CREAN~ your thoughts
Dick Vitale (11:03 AM)
Indiana is a great story, an elite power over the years that has had some struggles. Should be strong enough to beat New Mexico State but this is not an easy opponent. The Aggies got hot in the WAC tournament. Cody Zeller has to shine inside for the Hoosiers. Creqan's hard work has paid off and he also has a great recruiting class coming in next year.
Matt (Washington, D.C.)
Hey Dick,Who is going to be the biggest upset in the first road of the tournament this year?
Dick Vitale (11:05 AM)
There are always upsets in the first round but I don't think there are that many this time around. I would keep a keen eye on Davidson to give Louisville a tough game. Bob McKillop's team can really shoot the trifecta.
Can UNC get past the Elite 8 without Henson or at best a less than 100% Henson? If so, how far do u see them going under those circumstances? TY, great chat
Dick Vitale (11:06 AM)
I don't know about that. They will need him for the Sweet 16 and the Elite Eight. It is not going to be easy without him if he cannot go. He makes such a difference on defense, blocking shots and rebounding.
I know u luv the Dukies but do u have them moving past Baylor?
Dick Vitale (11:08 AM)
First they have to win a few games. With their three-point shooting, they will find a way. Baylor out-talents them with quickness and athleticism. Coach K finds a way to win with this team. They hope to have Ryan Kelly back from his foot injury as he sat out the ACC tournmament.

Dickie V ur amazing!!!!! U think illini should hire who???
Dick Vitale (11:09 AM)
I think Shaka Smart would be a great hire but I do not know if he will leave VCU because he loves it there. If he says no, my feeling is they should have guts and hire a guy will ties in the state in Chris Collins. His dad has lots of ties in the Chicago area, Collins has sucha great work ethic and you have to have guts. Someone took a chance on Mike Krzyzewski and Bill Self when they were young.
Kevin (Orlando, FL)
Dickie V - Are you ready for some Rays baseball?? I am pumped to see the BEST rotation n baseball!!! How do you see the Florida teams doing in the tourney?
Dick Vitale (11:11 AM)
Absolutely. The best pitching staff in baseball and you have to tell the Yankees they are playing for a wild card. I like Florida State to go the Final Four, love theit defense and toughness. Florida has to do a better job of shooting the three as they have struggled down the stretch.
Will UConn have problems facing Iowa state's 3 pointers
Dick Vitale (11:14 AM)
Yes. The Cyclones are tough and if COnn. looks ahead to Kentucky, that could be dangersous. Kentucky has too much talent and will beat Western Kentucky easily. A lot of people walked up to me at the Broken Egg and said what do you think about UConnbn. vs. Kentucky and I reminded them they have to beat Iowa State first. Fred Hoiberg has done a good job and Royce White is a stat sheet stuffer. I think too much Jeremy Lamb and Andre Drummond here.
Zac (Knoxville TN) [via mobile]
Whatsup Dickie V!! Which 1 seed do you see going down first, and what team do you think will beat them? (sorry if this has already been asked)
Dick Vitale (11:17 AM)
I think Syracuse has problems noe without Melo. If you think they have no shot after that, think again. They have a lot of athletes and they have a chip on their shoulder. Kids don't get involved with adversity, they just play. Jim Boeheim has dealt with a lot this season.
cory wichita-ks [via mobile]
Dickie-V What do you think of Wichita state and their chances to make a deep run? And do you thing Gregg Marshall leaves after this year?
Dick Vitale (11:18 AM)
I like what the Shockers have done this season. The Missouri Valley is not an easy league and Marshall's kids play hard. I like Joe Ragland a lot as a shooter and Garrett Stutz can be tough in the post. I think Wichita State has the potential to make the Sweet 16.

I hear a lot of critical comments about why Duke won't win. Do you think the Plumlee brothers are enough of an inside presence to win. I mean come on the won with Zoubek.
Dick Vitale (11:20 AM)
I think a key will eb if Kelly is back to give them another body up front. Plus Kelly has great range as a shooter. This is the time of year where players have to step up and I believe the Plumlees are capabel of doing that. Mason has had some terrific games when he is on. Duke is a good theee-point shooting team with Rivers, Curry and Dawkins and that is their bread and butter.

Can J'Covan Brown be this years Kemba Walker? How deep can the horns go with Brown at the helm?
Dick Vitale (11:23 AM)
Texas has a tough game againsta Cincinnati team which played very well in the Big East tourney, upsetting Syracuse before losing to Louisville. Brown is one of the high scorers coming nto the tourney, averaging over 20 ppg. He is also the guy who shoots the most, over 500 times in the regular season, more than 200 mroe attempts than the next player on the Longhorns. The face that they are in the tournament says a lot about Rick Barnes since they lost three players in the NBA draft, led by Tristan Thompson.
Anthony columbus [via mobile]
Do you see ohio state as the prime fav since melo is out in the east bracket
Dick Vitale (11:26 AM)
That bracket has a number of legit contenders. I think Syracuse still has a shot even without Melo because of the athletes and veterans like Kris Joseph, Scoop Jardine, etc. Ohio State is always a contender with Jared Sullinger, Buford, Craft and don't forget DeShaun Thomas, who averages 15 ppg. Florida State was so impressive in winning the ACC tourney and Michael Snaer is a major factor, Ian Miller can score coming off the bench. Vandy with a veteran team led by John Jenkins hitting shots from outside will be important. I like Florida State, but this brackt is wide open.
Ben ( cherrylog ga) [via mobile]
I'm a big Bob huggins fan, what chance do you think west Virginia has of pulling the upset over Ohio state, if they get past gonzaga first?
Dick Vitale (11:28 AM)
First they have to beat Gonzags and that won't be easy. Kevin Jones and Truck Bryant lead the way. Huggins will have his team ready and they can be dangerous. That is one of the most interesting first-round games.
Steven (Bay Area CA) [via mobile]
It ain't March Madness without Dickie V baby! What conference(s) do you think will standout in the tourney? I can foresee some upsets happening to teams from the Big East and ACC but you never know!
Dick Vitale (11:28 AM)
The power conferences and the Golaiths wil dominate in the long run.
Scott, Kansas City Mo [via mobile]
Rock Chalk Dickie V!!! Do you think Kansas has a shot to beat UNC in the final four and possibly win the National Championship! I just hope Thomas Robinson and TyShawn Taylor have good games and lead the Hawks to the title.
Dick Vitale (11:31 AM)
Bill Self's team has potential but do not look past Detroit and I am not saying that because I used to coach there. Detroit will not be intimidated and Ray McCallum Jr. is a star, Guys like Eli Holman, Anderson and Lowe will put up a challenge. I think Kansas can make it a long way, though I have Georgetown beating them in a surprise. Self has done a great job since they lost the Morris Twins, Selby, Morningstar and Reed.
Dick Vitale (11:33 AM)
I have to take a TO baby. I am getting on a plane to come up to Bristol to be part of our March Madness coveerage. I hope you will be watching us. Also, if you would like to help cancer research, you can be a part by buying a raffle for a shot at a 2012 Mercedes convertible. Go to jimmyv.org/vitaleraffle2012 for more details.
