It's nice to see Bayless finally playing well. I added and dropped him a few times and picked him up when I lost Rubio. Can he keep it up?
Tom Carpenter (11:01 AM)
I'm still very high on Bayless, but clearly reports that Calderon will keep his starting job are a bit disconcerting ... at least for getting Bayless the opportunity to max out his statistical upside. I still think he will be a reliable contributor and won't be surprised if he ends up with starter's minutes even as a reserve.
Renato Garcia (New York)
Do you think that Kevin Martin will ever regain his minutes in the lineup this year?
Tom Carpenter (11:03 AM)
So long as he can get healthy, he should be capable of getting back to quality production. However, that comes with the caveat that I have rarely understood anything that Kevin McHale has done as a coach or GM, so it also wouldn't surprise me if McHale chooses to kill Kev-Mart's fantasy upside out of the blue ... again.
Renato Garcia (New York)
Luol Deng's shooting percentages have been killing me. How valuable is he still to me in a 12 cat league? I just picked up Wilson Chandler and I have Paul George, should I perhaps trade him for a big man?
Tom Carpenter (11:06 AM)
We can't expect Deng to do much more than he has this season. It's certainly against the odds that he will increase his shooting percentage with a bum wrist (even if it's his off-hand). Deng's name should carry enough weight to allow you to trade him and get decent value. Try shipping him to a team in your league that is solid in percentages.

Hey Tom, Based on overall talent, is it a good a idea to keep Kaman or better to drop him for KG or Tyson Chandler?
Tom Carpenter (11:08 AM)
I do think that the Hornets were showcasing Kaman for a trade. Since nobody bit, it's possible they'll scale back his minutes down the stretch. That being said, his overall fantasy upside is far greater than KG or Chandler. I'd hold him until or unless his minutes/production finally dip.

Do you think its still worth keep steph curry on my bench? or is it time to let him go for the year?
Tom Carpenter (11:12 AM)
I have to say it would be difficult to cut Curry until they finally shut him down for the season. On the other hand, at this stage of the season you have to do what you have to do to win. In other words, I'd do my best to hang on to Curry if I can, but if your circumstance say you can't burn that roster spot any longer ... and there is a quality option out there (Klay Matthews?), then do what you have to do and dump him. Personally, I'll be surprised if he plays again in 2012.
Hi Tom! 12 team cat 9 I dropped Biyombo for a steadier overall producer ZaZa! With Pekovic shaky right now and Duncan to sit games here and there I needed a steadier ZaZa. Should i add hawes as well. Would have to drop Booker who is well rounded as well. Any thoughts and Thanks
Tom Carpenter (11:15 AM)
Retro-Zaza! Been a while since he was actually fantasy relevant, but you can't knock a solid month of double-doubles. I think that Pekovic will be fine once healthy, but I would consider dumping Booker for Hawes. It looks like Hawes is in position to crank out his usual great stats until he gets hurt again.

Hey Tom, How do you view Tristan Thompson blowing up on Monday? Is he worth a flier in a 12 team league or do you attribute it to a soft Nets frontcourt?
Tom Carpenter (11:18 AM)
Clearly, the Nets soft frontcourt made things easier on TT, but numbers like last night are what I expected to see from him regularly down the stretch ... and why I have repeatedly recommended picking him up off waivers or acquiring him in a low-level trade. Once Verejao gets back, TT's upside may be limited, but I expect a strong finish from the rook. Definitely pick him up and let's see if he can stay focused.
Jim (New York)
Good morning Tom! If I gave you Marshon Brooks, Wilson Chandler and Klay Thompson in a 12 team H2H, which two would you keep?
Tom Carpenter (11:23 AM)
Ah, that's a tough one. I think before Gallo went down, I would have said stick with Klay and MarShon, but now I would recommend Chandler and Klay. Clearly, Thompson is a prime reason why the Warriors traded Ellis away, so he should be rock solid the rest of the season. Chandler should get into a big role quickly now that Gallo is gone for a while. I like Brooks a lot and he has a nice opportunity, but I expect him to be less reliable.
What's the deal with Evan Turner? Was he just being shown off for trades?
Tom Carpenter (11:26 AM)
That's the fear isn't it? Obviously, they were showcasing him and didn't deal him, but in the process he proved he could ball and pile up stats, so hopefully he still has earned the minutes. They also lost a few games in a row while featuring Turner, which may be a bigger problem. Right now, I would not dump him, though, because he can produce well when given the chance. If he's still failing to pump out reliable stats by the weekend, I'd consider moving on.
al (new york)
Would dropping curry for eric gordon be a smart move for that late season finish?
Tom Carpenter (11:28 AM)
Since it appears more likely that Gordon will be back than Curry that move makes sense. Realistically, their franchises should probably shut them both down ... but it sounds like Gordon is pushing to get back on the hardwood. Even in a limited role, he could help your team out.
Sid (Washington DC)
Hey Tom, Am i better of keeping Ilyasova or dropping him for Wilson Chandler?
Tom Carpenter (11:31 AM)
I'd hang onto Ilyasova, because his stats lately have looked like the video-game stats Chandler was posting in China. Chandler should be solid now that Gallo is out, but they still have a lot of options on that team. Ilyasova is in a better spot to max out his stats.
Great chat and advice Tom! standard 12 Better SF to own: E.Turner,Derr.Williams,Leonard,Splitter,Go.Hayward or G.Green? Looking for best well rounded and schedule friendly SF! Thanks alot
Tom Carpenter (11:33 AM)
Thanks! Even though Turner has stumbled lately, his upside and opportunity is way higher than those other guys, so I'd go with him.
Tom Carpenter (11:35 AM)
If Calderon was out of the picture, I'd take Bayless. Since he's not out of the picture, it's pretty much a toss-up, imo. Thomas will have the more direct opportunity to succeed and should be more reliable. Bayless has more upside, but that may be capped if he can't push Calderon aside as the starting PG.
Between Isaiah Thomas or Jeryd Bayless which one do you think will be the biggest difference maker for the fantasy playoffs?
Tom Carpenter (11:36 AM)
Forgot to post the last question ...
Tom Carpenter (11:37 AM)
No. Not unless there's a change in news. I have yet to hear anything at all that suggests he might play again this season.
is bogut worth the stash?
Tom Carpenter (11:38 AM)
Sean M. (Chicago)
How long is Gallo out. If i can drop him for chandler should I do it?
Tom Carpenter (11:40 AM)
I would wait to see if there's a more definitive timeline set up for Gallo, but it would be surprising if he was able to play through that injury AND perform well. If he's definitely out a month or so, I would move on to Wilson Chandler.
Isaiah Thomas.. can he be trusted to start (8 Cat h2h) in the next few weeks? Looks good but always worried...
Tom Carpenter (11:41 AM)
There's always a risk with a moody coach and rookie, but I still expect Thomas to finish the season a strong and relatively consistent note.
Ricky Tapia (Miami, FL)
Would you drop Hedu Turkoglu for a lets say J.R Smith or Novak ? I need 3s but dont know who to go with and Turkoglu has not been producing at all even though he does help you in assists which i am weak in. Your thoughts? Thanks
Tom Carpenter (11:45 AM)
If you need 3s and can deal with not getting other statistical production, Novak's your guy. He's one of the best at dropping the trey and should keep that up in the new Knicks regime.
Sean M. (Chicago, IL)
So Ray Allen just hit waivers. After two bad games along with the fact that he has only three games first playoff week (next week in my league) should I drop Evan Turner
Tom Carpenter (11:48 AM)
Depends on what stats you need. If you need 3s, Ray's better for you, obviously. Boards, look to Turner. Reliability, Ray. Less risky at missing games down the stretch, Turner. If it's a points league, I would go to Ray. If you think you need the highest upside in the playoffs, roll the dice on Turner.
What are your thoughts on picking up Hawes now and dropping Sammy who now iis in a timeshare ?
Tom Carpenter (11:54 AM)
When Hawes is not hurt and not in some coach's doghouse, he's capable of averaging a double-dub with some blocks, dimes and even treys. He's currently healthy, starting and not in a doghouse ... go get him.
with lopez close to returning, is he worth a look? obviously he could reinjure himself again, but what do you expect out of him roy?
Tom Carpenter (11:57 AM)
I would be relatively surprised if he plays again this season ... why risk it? But unless there's a great option on waivers, I'd hang on to him to see if he can actually get back on the hardwood next month. If there's someone decent out there, though, move on from Lopez.
Tom Carpenter (12:00 PM)
All right, that's another fun session in the bag. And since you managed to hold your booing until the end of the ceremony, here's a little treat. No, it's not video of the most awkward jersey retirement ceremony in NBA history ... it's just some highlights of one of the greatest scorer's the NBA has seen: Chris Mullin ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iN1AGX_leY8 ...
