Kipp Adams (1:04 PM)
Hello everyone and thank you for joining me for another UGA recruiting chat. I will do my best to get to as many of your questions as possible. As always those on twitter can follow me @KippLAdams.Let's get started.
Vince S. (Jax, FL)
A lot has been speculated by fans about UGA cooling off on S Devine due to weight concerns. Where do things presently stand by both sides?
Kipp Adams (1:06 PM)
While Devine told me he has not heard AS MUCH from UGA as he has others recently, that does not mean he is off the board for the Bulldogs. There could be a number of reasons for the drop in contact, but it is also possible there are other offensive linemen that are closer to making a decision that they want to try and focus on to see if they can earn commitments from. UGA needs to bring in at LEAST 5 OL in this class, so prospects that are close to deciding are likely going to be the focus right now.
Josh J (Brunswick, Ga)
Are there any recruits that UGA made a big impact with over the G Day weekend?
Kipp Adams (1:08 PM)
UGA had several targets on campus last weekend, including DL Antonio Riles, DB Brendan Langley and TE Hunter Henry. While all 3 of them told me great things about UGA, the biggest news could be finally getting DB Vonn Bell on campus. He is one of the top safeties in the country, but has not been able to fit in a visit to Athens until now.
With Reuben Foster transferring, do you thing our chances at flipping him have dropped?
Kipp Adams (1:10 PM)
Yes I do. While the distance from Auburn, Ala. to Athens compared to LaGrange might be less than an hour or so, the ability to get Foster on campus took a considerable dip with the move, and the overall amount of contact could suffer as well.Several of the trips to UGA were because he got a ride from close friend and UGA commit Tray Matthews, so it will be interesting to see how much he is in Athens going forward.
Kipp...I know it is a long way to go for the 2013 signing class, but we only have one OL committed. How do you think we stand with the other OL targets?
Kipp Adams (1:12 PM)
I think there are several other OL that are giving UGA serious consideration at the moment, including Brandon Kublanow, DeVondre Seymour, Delando Crooks, Josh Cardiello and J.P. Vonashek. All of them could have their decision made by the end of the summer, and it would not surprise me to see any of them on the Bulldogs' commitment list.
Mike (East Campus)
When do the ESPN recruiting rankings come out?
Kipp Adams (1:12 PM)
They are scheduled to come out tomorrow afternoon.
Does Tony Parker sign with UGA?
Kipp Adams (1:14 PM)
I am not going to pretend that I have the best pulse on Parker's commitment, but with the poker face Parker has maintained, I doubt any basketball recruiting experts know either. That being said, I feel UGA is right there with UCLA and possibly Kansas for Parker. I felt the longer he took with his decision, the better chance the Bulldogs have. I know he really likes Coach Fox.
What is the latest on Marquez North? Also, are there any other WRs that we are currently going hard after?
Kipp Adams (1:17 PM)
North still has a lot of interest in Georgia for sure, and he could be the Bulldogs' top target at the moment at WR. Uriah LeMay and juco targets Corey Smith and Jatavius Stewart are also high on the board and looking hard at UGA.
Ben Lewis (Augusta)
With Ken Malcome, Crowell, and Samuel all running the ball with authority Saturday. Do you see Keith Marshall possibly red shirting this year?
Kipp Adams (1:17 PM)
It could happen, but I find it difficult to believe UGA will be able to keep an explosive talent like Marshall off the field this fall.
Can you provide any updates on Derrick Henry and Von Bell?
Jacob Barnes (Waycross, GA)
So Kipp how do you feel about Georgia's chances with picking up Safety Vonn Bell
Kipp Adams (1:18 PM)
I plan to catch up more with Bell today for an update this week, but he is still very much open in his recruitment.Henry is getting a lot of attention from Tennessee, but as it stands he is very much solid in his commitment to UGA.
Do you see UGA getting 30 commits next year?
Kipp Adams (1:20 PM)
I wrote last month about the possibility of signing up to 33 (25 + 8 EE exemptions for 2012), but I think 30 might be a more realistic goal for UGA in the 2013 class.
What are your thoughts on Max Garcia?
Kipp Adams (1:21 PM)
I think UGA was wise to offer Garcia and he is the type of established BCS caliber OL they need on campus right now.Georgia has a great chance with him, as they offer a great combination of playing time, SEC conference play, and coming back home to be near his family.
What do you think our chances are with Montravious Adams?
Kipp Adams (1:22 PM)
Very very high at the moment. Adams is another example of how things can change with each on-campus visit. Remember recruiting fans, it is a marathon, not a sprint. (See Jordan Jenkins)
Kipp I have heard that UGA is getting back in it with Dye, is that bc they think they have lost ground on Kamara or whats the deal with this?
Kipp Adams (1:24 PM)
Dye came up to check on UGA, but not entirely sure it has anything to do with Alvin Kamara. Still not sure where Dye is on the RB/ATH board, but it is wise of them to stay in contact just because he is one of the best overall athletes in Georgia.
dawqontap (recouping from Classic City Beer Fest)
At this point (very early I know), what are the top two positions you feel UGA coaches have in the "NEED" category on their recruiting board right now.
Kipp Adams (1:27 PM)
I think offensive line HAS to be the top NEED right now for the Bulldogs based on who they have committed right NOW.They have done well at ILB so far. They also have brought in several athletes that could play DB or WR at the next level.I think they need to bring in a top tier defensive end in the 2013 class to solidify their DL for the future.
your name3jack1 (Sandfield,AL)
...Kipp, Rivals has J.O'Neill as a Rivals 100 & Big Rank Led the state of FL in tackles while playing @ the highest level of Comp! But my question to you is Just how good can R.Carter be this/yr? Some has said that he was the "Best" LB in GA his Soph yr? Is this true
Kipp Adams (1:29 PM)
Carter actually played defensive end his sophomore year, but he was one of the best in the state that year, and beat out an SEC signee to start much of the season.I think he still has to show that he not only can play inside linebacker, but that he is 100 percent recovered from his injury. But I also remember seeing him at NUC camp last summer at inside linebacker, as well as the 1st half vs Lowndes. for having no experience, Carter showed flashes of being outstanding at the position.
Craig (Lexington, Sc)
Brandon Langley keeps naming UGA as his leader when do you think he will pull the trigger?
Kipp Adams (1:30 PM)
I think Langley will continue to evaluate his options and decide by the end of the summer. Cannot say he is dragging it out when the summer college camps have not even begun. UGA is in great shape with Langley and has done a great job not only selling him on being the top CB on the board, but also the impact he can have in Athens.
Josh J. (Brunswick, GA)
Any other serious targets at ILB if Foster does not pan out? Any word on Larenz Bryant? Levenberry doesn't seem like he has much interest in UGA after his recent update of his top schools.
Kipp Adams (1:32 PM)
Tim Kimbrough Jr really liked his visit to UGA, as did Matt Rolin. Both could play ILB for the Bulldogs, and both would solidify the position for the 2013 class. If neither choose UGA, there is still plenty of time to evaluate other options for the final spot.
Michelle Carvell (Clermont Lounge, GA)
If Brandon Kublanow, DeVondre Seymour, and John Theus were going to fight a bear who would win? Also, are there any commits that have been tearing it up at camps lately?
Kipp Adams (1:33 PM)
I would feel bad for the bear. The Nike Camp and Elite 11 are this weekend, so check back then.
Who are the highest rated, uncommited recruits that UGA has a REAL shot at landing???
Kipp Adams (1:35 PM)
The ESPN 150 comes out tomorrow, but without giving anything away, I think DL Montravius Adams, DB Brendan Langley, and OT Laremy Tunsil are 3 top targets for UGA at the moment.
Tyler (Gainesville ga)
Heard rumblings of possibly another commit from this weekend that is a silent. Is there any truth to that?
Kipp Adams (1:37 PM)
Answering your question, by definition, would seem to contradict the term "silent commit."I think UGA could have been informed by a prospect or two that they are in good shape to receive their commitment in the near future.
Where do you think we stand with Antonio Riles and how soon will he make a decision?
Kipp Adams (1:38 PM)
I think Antonio is looking very closely at UGA, as well as programs like Clemson and Florida. He has not set a date for his decision, as the choice has been too difficult for him to make right now.
Keenan (Atlanta, GA)
Should Nkemdiche's desire to visit Texas give Bulldogs fans some hope that he's not the Bama lock that many have assumed? Or chalk it up simply as a recruit taking advantage of the process to see other schools and cities?
Kipp Adams (1:46 PM)
I think most prospects in Georgia would express a desire to visit Texas, as well as USC, Oregon and other "exotic" locations with top tier programs. Now whether or not Nkemdiche visits there without taking an official is another question entirely.Ole Miss and Clemson are two programs with the best chance to pulling Nkemdiche away from Alabama, but its not going to be easy. UGA and LSU would probably be in the next group, but honestly Nkemdiche is being pulled in so many directions, I was not surprised to hear he could be postponing a decision. Being the best prospect in Georgia in a decade or more comes with a ton of pressure.
Kipp Adams (1:46 PM)
Hey guys, I had internet issues for 5 minutes, so we will have some overtime today.
William B (Augusta Ga)
How do you believe social media. Such as Twitter has really helped UGA with the recruits lately. With players talking to each other that years past would not ever have the chance. I could be wrong but I believe Twitter is playing a decent role in the amount of early recruits we are getting. Some of these kids might see that it is possibly even more exciting to be committed earlier. The players in the state of Ga seem to talk on Twitter to each other more than any other IMO.
Kipp Adams (1:48 PM)
Completely agree. The ability for the recruits to discuss publicly their interest in Georgia, as well as seeing the players and overall news on social media, the Bulldogs have been able to create a lot of positive momentum, and that has resulted in the best start in recruiting since Richt has been at UGA.
cody (Athens GA)
kipp i have read that Uriah Lemay will announce a leader kinda like what his brother did. I know when christian did it it was pretty much a commitment, do you think Uriahs will be the same thing assuming he does pick UGA. To me i think that naming a leader to hold a spot is dumb bc you could be holding a spot for urself and could keep another guy out that may want to commit. What do you think of that?
Kipp Adams (1:51 PM)
I think with the LeMay family they do not want to use the term "commitment" because of their respect for what the word means. A verbal commitment is not binding, and as such the recruiting process is not over when it occurs. Naming a leader is a great way for them to let the schools know that if today were signing day, that is where Uriah would go.I think UGA has an outstanding chance of being that program because of the need for receivers in this class, as well as having the same values that Christian and the LeMay family bought into in the 2011 recruiting cycle.
William B (Augusta Ga)
Will thee be any 2014 player rankings come out tomorrow? Are either Nick Glass, or Demarre Kitt one of the best in the nation at there position? For 2014 kids?
Kipp Adams (1:53 PM)
I believe Tom Luginbill said 2014 evaluations and the ESPN 150 watch list will come out in August.I do not see Glass or Kitt as being 5-stars or best at their position nationally, but both are solid gets for UGA and a great start to next year's class.
I saw somewhere that D. Henry could end up playing defense in college. Where do you see him playing in thens?
Kipp Adams (1:55 PM)
Touchy subject there, as Henry has made it clear his intentions are to play running back at the next level.I have not heard of UGA being interested in Henry at all for defense, but I think IF he wanted to play OLB he could be an EXCELLENT prospect at that position as well.
who do you think the Dawgs have the best shot at getting next?
Kipp Adams (1:56 PM)
I think offensive linemen like JP Vonashek, Josh Cardiello, DeVondre Seymour and Delando Crooks could all decide soon.Uriah LeMay said he plans to announce a top school within the next month, so he is one to watch as well.
Who are a few of your sleeper prospects in the state of GA that could blow up nationally with a strong senior year and/or big time camp performance?
Kipp Adams (2:03 PM)
Defensive back Mike Minter of McNair has solid junior film. Offensive lineman Brett Steverson of Fitzgerald is a good looking kid with great size. Lassiter WR Ryan Jenkins tests very well and could put up huge numbers in the Trojans' offense. Chamblee DE Davin Bellamy is already starting to pick up a lot of offers, and he is one that college coaches would do well to go check out in the spring. Have not heard any mention of Douglas Co. QB Ellis Richardson, but he has great size and potential based off film.
Tony (Richmond, CA)
Will Montravious Adams be a Bulldog on National Signing Day?
Kipp Adams (2:04 PM)
Wow putting me on the spot big time there. I will say this. I could see it happening. And that is something I could not have said a couple months ago.
Josh J (Brunswick, GA)
You probably will not answer this, but are we over or under in terms of ESPN 150 prospects in this years class in comparison to last years currently?
Kipp Adams (2:05 PM)
You are right. I cannot answer it. But check back with Recruiting Nation tomorrow and I think Bulldog fans will be happy with what they see.
Kipp Adams (2:06 PM)
Alright guys, that wraps it up for this week's UGA recruiting chat. Thanks again for joining me today.
