Do you think that we will see a Texas Longhorn selected in the 2012 NFL Draft Tonight?
Sean Adams (12:22 PM)
I don't. I would say Robinson in the 4th or 5th. Acho in the 5th or 6th and Randall in the 6th or 7th. Tough year for the Longhorns in regards to the draft. Crazy to think that Gideon started 52 games over 4 years and won't get drafted. That is rare at a place like Texas.

I know you can have good teams without NFL talent. Can you have champion teams at the college level without NFL talent?
Sean Adams (12:33 PM)
Not a chance. Obviously, you look at the teams that are successful (Alabama, LSU,USC, Oklahoma, Texas, etc.), you have to have NFL type players to beat other teams with those players on a consistent basis.

ut will have a great season next year because the defense will be one off the best in the nation
Sean Adams (12:37 PM)
A lot of people feel that way. Texas will have one of the best defenses in the country and will have the best one in the Big 12. Everything will hinge on the QB position. Ash does not have to be great but he does have to be good. It all depends on what you consider great when it comes to the team.
Stephen (Seattle, WA)
How long before we see Texas in top 5 in Bball and Football?
Sean Adams (12:42 PM)
Texas should be Top 5 in football in 2013 and/or 2014. Hard to say about basketball. It is such a fluid sport but I wouldn't say the team that the team we know will be on campus in 2012/2013 will be a Top 5 team.

Some NFL franchises will always be garbage because they are horrible at evaluating talent. Namely the miami dolphins and the Cleveland browns. Both using their first round picks on very average qb's. Do you see either of these players actually succeeding?
Sean Adams (12:49 PM)
I like Weeden a lot but it will depend on what they put around him. McCoy had NOTHING around him last season so blaming the Brown's woes on him is silly. Tannehill is a guy on spec that I like but there is no way I use a first round pick on him. He has less on the books than Weeden, Foles and Cousins. But with the new coaching staff at Miami, they know everything there is to know about him. I wish them both luck but I doubt I would have used a first round pick on either.
Tony (Richmond, CA)
Sean, there have been no Longhorns drafted in the first round the past two years. Who on the 2012 team is most likely to reverse that trend?
Sean Adams (12:55 PM)
Alex Okafor could be a guy with a big year. The highest rated player on the Texas team right now is Kenny Vaccaro but he is a safety and they rarely go in the first round. If there is one or two to go in the first round next year he could be the one. He would have been early second this year.
Carter Strickland wrote an article about UT's NFL draft woes recently, specifically on how UT may not be developing top talents on the offensive side properly (how our ESPNU150 products didn't turn into first 2 draft rounders).Personally, I thought the issue was mostly the differing criteria between college and NFL recruiting. UT in the last 5 years became satisfied with what is rated as "Div-I" (not bluechip) speed and size for its recruits, this shows with our last few key receivers who went on to play in NFL (e.g. Cosby, Shipley). But at the NFL level, they are not considered good prospects as they have already reached their potential (can't teach players to be taller and faster). We seemed to have addressed this issue with 2013 recruiting. Just looking at the list, you see players above prototypical NFL size (at least in height.. 6'4-6'6 comes up often on that list and even our slot receiver, Warrick is 5'11 not 5'8 like Quan Cosby)What is your take on this? Will UT place multiple projected first rounders in NFL drafts in the next three years?
Sean Adams (1:01 PM)
I would expect for Texas to take what they feel is their rightful place in college football and in the draft soon. In 2013 and on, expect Texas to enjoy the draft spoils they enjoyed during the early 2000's.
Lee (Plainview, TX)
Does this playoff being talked about include only conference champions or can anyone ranked in the Top 4 be involved?
Sean Adams (1:05 PM)
That is one of the details that will be worked out over time. Based on history I am sure that the Big 10 and Pac 12 are the conferences pushing for the champions. The SEC and the Big 12 (both have had Top 4 teams in the last decade) obviously will want the champion criteria to not be a part of the playoff. Based on last year alone the championship should always include the best teams, conference champions or not.
Mark (Sacramento, CA)
Gut feeling as to whether Colt McCoy is back in Cleveland for the 2012 season?
Sean Adams (1:09 PM)
I think he is. In the end, there has to be a place for him to go. The FA QB's are all spoken for and there may not be a landing spot. I do not think there is a soft landing spot for McCoy. I also would not just pen Weeden in for the startingt position. McCoy had nothing around him last year and he will this year. He is a fighter.
Doesn't the draft tell us every year that recruiting rankings don't matter? Two players taken from Boise State in the first round but no players taken from Florida, Florida State and Miami (FL).
Sean Adams (1:11 PM)
I would not go that far. I always feel that the draft shows that there are late bloomers that early recruiting rankings cannot account for.
Stephen (Seattle, WA)
Is there anyone on the roster right now that can be our Fozzy Whittaker going into this season? on and off the field.
Sean Adams (1:16 PM)
There are leaders everywhere. Jordan Hicks on defense. Also Alex Okafor. Vaccarro matters in the building. Mason Walters on offense along with the Hawkins and Moore, the JUCO players. The leadership roles will all be figured out over time. Also, the on the field question can be answered by just about everyone. The running back position will be in as good of hands as it was in 2005 when they have Charles, Young, Taylor and Melton.
If a recruit is dogging on Texas on a social media site should that not be enough to pull his offer?
Sean Adams (1:19 PM)
I say yes but I'm not a coach that needs athletes and can stand on a wall about stuff. You always have to remember that these are kids. Mack Brown is about as good as anyone in getting into the minds and hearts of people. He'll usually make the right decision about things.
What is your take on the Cowboys moving up in the draft and taking the CB from LSU and what are your 49er doing?
Sean Adams (1:26 PM)
I love the move for the Cowboys. They got the help that they needed. I thought OL or TE for my 49ers but they went WR. I have faith.
