NBA Playoffs Chat with D'Arcy Maine
D'Arcy Maine (6:32 PM)
Greetings from Boston for Game 3 between the Hawks and the Celtics! We've got a big night of playoff ball that, at the very least, has to be better than last night's blowouts. Let's spend the next hour discussing, shall we?
Jeff (N.C.) [via mobile]
Is there really any chance that R. Allen plays? Everyone I talk to says different things. Out for game 3, playing, out for the series, out for the playoffs. What's your take on this? When do you see Allen playing?
D'Arcy Maine (6:33 PM)
Lots of questions on Ray Allen tonight. It's looking good that Ray Allen will play tonight, Jeff. He participated in warmups and is now listed as probable. From what I'm hearing, he's planning on playing tonight. The C's can (obviously) win without him but he's certainly a plus for the team. And, seriously, what would a playoff game at home be without his mom in her rhinestone #20 jersey? Exactly.
Boston [via mobile]
Is Josh Smith playing?
D'Arcy Maine (6:35 PM)
Moving on to the second-most asked question of the night... And the answer is good news for Boston fans. Josh Smith is OUT tonight for the Hawks with a left knee injury.
Kerf [via mobile]
Sixers take control of the series tonight?
D'Arcy Maine (6:37 PM)
This is a HUGE game for the Sixers tonight if they want to pull off this upset. They were impressive in Tuesday's blowout win in Chicago so should be very telling to see if they can bring that momentum to their home court tonight. The Bulls definitely need to win this one to regain their confidence, prove to themselves they're still a viable threat without Rose, etc. Should be a hard-fought game between two teams with a lot on the line. I think whichever team wins tonight, wins the series.
Marcos Rodriguez(775) [via mobile]
Don't you think a better coach is needed in New York to teach great players how to play together.. AKA Phil Jackson.. Stop blaming Amare and Melo.. That's their game they just need a better coach.
D'Arcy Maine (6:41 PM)
Four questions in and we already have a Phil Jackson request. I knew I should have taken the under on that. I don't think the blame can be solely on Amare and 'Melo but they certainly deserve some of it. I think this series was all but over anyway but Amare extinguished (get it?) any hope the Knicks had of advancing with his immaturity after the G2 loss. The Knicks front office have their work cut out for them this offseason. I'm sure Jackson's name will come up multiple times in the coming months.
Jonathan (Detroit) [via mobile]
How determined do you think Kobe Bryant is to win his 6th this year?
D'Arcy Maine (6:42 PM)
It's Kobe Bryant. Safe to say, his left pinky finger is more determined to win an NBA title than anyone else in the league.
Michael Jordan [via mobile]
Bobcat jokes, I hate the fact that all y'all do is criticize. You'll see my team in five year and see how great it is...
D'Arcy Maine (6:43 PM)
Clearly this is that Michael Jordan from the ESPN 'It's not crazy, it's sports' commercials. We all know the real Michael Jordan is playing golf somewhere right now.
Shawn(954) [via mobile]
Do you think there's an asterisk on this year's title because of rose's injury? Given his team's lack of impact on year one of MIA's big 3 era.
D'Arcy Maine (6:47 PM)
Bill Simmons wrote a similar sentiment yesterday in his column. Obviously the Rose injury gives the Heat a huge edge in the East but they still have to beat whatever team the West produces and that can't be downplayed. Injuries happen and it's an unfortunate part of the game. Doesn't seem fair to me to take away another team's accomplishment as a result.
Chloe [via mobile]
Does Derrick Rose need surgery?
D'Arcy Maine (6:48 PM)
Unfortunately, Chloe, Rose does need to get surgery for his ACL. It won't heal on it's own. I'm not sure why he's waiting but I've heard they are waiting for the swelling to go down. Iman Shumpert by contrast (who tore his ACL on the same day) has already had his surgery and has started the recovery process. Every injury is different. And that concludes my limited medical knowledge. Shout out to TLC's 'Life in the ER' for that.
D'Arcy Maine (6:48 PM)
Speaking of injuries... It's official. Ray Allen WILL play tonight.
Karl (Atl) [via mobile]
With Allen playing now and smith out, what percentage do you think hawks have for this game?
D'Arcy Maine (6:53 PM)
I'm not good at things like percentages or math for that matter so I'll turn this question over to the latest odds. The most updated odds for this game have the Celtics as 7.5-point favorites.
Jesse Dallas Texas [via mobile]
If King James and the Miami heat keep up the level of play that they are on now do you seem them winning the championship?
Tim Kampbell [via mobile]
Do you think the Heat will win it all?
kofi [via mobile]
Do you see the heat wining a championship? Will wade allow them to lose a second one if they make it to the finals?
D'Arcy Maine (6:54 PM)
So many Heat questions. So little time. The Heat are certainly the team to beat at this point. I think LeBron summed it up best after last night's win, the Heat played like garbage in the first half against a focused Knicks squad and were only down four points. With the Bulls now without Rose, I think they are a lock to win the East and should have a very good chance of winning it all. The extra motivation from losing in last year's Final won't hurt either...
Spencer (Lawrence, KS) [via mobile]
What team from the West best matches up with Miami? I think OKC. Your thoughts?
D'Arcy Maine (6:59 PM)
I think the Thunder would have the best chance at beating the Heat in a seven-game series (although it would be fun to watch Kobe and the Lakers try. Miami and OKC split their two-game series during the season and the youthful Thunder could really challenge the Heat.
nouhou [via mobile]
dont hate lebron he did what best for him and is family
D'Arcy Maine (7:03 PM)
I've yet to see any hate in this chat towards LeBron James. I think 90% of people have moved past 'The Decision' and the dislike towards him has significantly decreased. The Knicks fans let him hear it last night but he was able to tune it out. Do feel the need to point out that LeBron's family stayed in Akron so I'm not sure if the move to Miami really was what 'was best for them'... Ah well. Details, details.
Cory (Tulsa) [via mobile]
If the seemingly inevitable lakers/thunder matchup does occur, do you think there will be any incidents resulting from Ron Artest's return to the court by at least game three?
D'Arcy Maine (7:07 PM)
Hard to think Ron/Metta will act up again if/when he returns. He's not exactly the Commish's favorite person at the moment and will be judged very harshly going forward. You would think one who changes their name to 'World Peace' would behave a little better...
Graham (Los Angeles) [via mobile]
I've been suprised how much the spurs are getting overlooked while playing at such a high level right now. Would you agree they have a legitimate shot at the title this year?
D'Arcy Maine (7:13 PM)
Yup, I agree that the Spurs have a legitimate chance and aren't getting their fair share credit this far. San Antonio is the healthiest they have been in years and seem to be clicking on all cylinders at this point. However, I think people are scared due to their old age and vulnerability toward injury as a result. That's not a bad thing though if you're a Spurs fan, I'm sure they're using the naysayers as added fuel to their fire. They are a very dangerous team at this moment.
Glendale california [via mobile]
I think its enough of talking about miami. I still think Bulls can win the east. That one game home loss was the impact of the rose to the team but i can assure you that it was only that game which was needed to happen
D'Arcy Maine (7:14 PM)
We'll see, Glendale. Tonight will be very telling in my mind about the Bulls chances. They proved they could win without Rose during the regular season but the jury is still out on the postseason after Tuesday's G2 loss.
Greg (Atlanta) [via mobile]
Why isn't Tracy mcgrady getting any playing time? We are going to need him tonight, especially if smith isn't playing.
Anonymous [via mobile]
Why are people ignoring the fact that the hawks still have Tracy mcgrady?
D'Arcy Maine (7:17 PM)
Probably because of his lack of contributions the past two games. However, with Josh Smith out tonight, this could be T-Mac's time to shine and play a valauble role for the Hawks. He'll certainly get more minutes as a result, let's see how he responds.
D'Arcy Maine (7:20 PM)
Celtics are taking the court to a LOUD ovation. Almost as loud as when the in-game announcer said that Ray Allen would return tonight.
Shistocytes [via mobile]
Dude! When are they gonna announce the MVP already???
D'Arcy Maine (7:23 PM)
Dude! What? Ryan Anderson winning the Most Improved Player wasn't enoughout for you? I kid, I kid. I'm with you. They drag these awards out.I don't know what day they are going to make the announcement but SPOILER ALERT: It's LeBron James. The ceremony is just a formality at this point.
kev71 [via mobile]
What about the clippers can they make it to the next round or just get another lucky win like the first game
D'Arcy Maine (7:25 PM)
The Clippers are the flashier, highlight-ready team but I think the Grizzlies are more talented and should win this series in six. So far, it's been a pretty exciting series though and might be my favorite thus far. I think G1 was a wakeup call for Memphis and I don't see them blowing another game like that.
Caleb, TX [via mobile]
Do the Mavs have a chance of coming back?
D'Arcy Maine (7:29 PM)
I think Derrick Rose has a better chance of playing a second-round game during this postseason than the Mavericks. So, to recap, the Mavs don't have a chance in hell of winning this series. See: Game 1, Game 2, Game 3.
Harper (Dallas) [via mobile]
I love Dallas but I'm sorry Caleb, no chance...
D'Arcy Maine (7:29 PM)
Just to prove I'm not alone on this thought.
D'Arcy Maine (7:33 PM)
And with that Mavericks memorial segment, I think it's time we wrap up this pregame chat. Thanks for joining me! I'll be chatting during the game with the Daily Dime Live crew so hopefully you'll join us there as well. Either way, enjoy tonight's games and happy Friday!
