Bill Williamson (2:00 PM)
Let's get rolling.
Jared (Las Vegas)
Do you think that Jeff Allen will start this year without an injury on the offensive line?
Bill Williamson (2:02 PM)
I think the Chiefs want him to leanr behind Lilja this season and then take over next year.
Marcel the Shell (Sitting in for possum )
Hello Bill, How much a difference do you think JDR will have on Denvers defense going into next season?
Bill Williamson (2:03 PM)
He knows John Fox's defense and they are en the same page. I know the Broncos are thrilled to have Del Rio on their side.
Scott Seymour (Anaheim, CA)
Which AFC west team has the best receiver group?
Bill Williamson (2:06 PM)
I think Oakland has a chance to be the deepest in the division. Really, it's a young group of receivers throughout the division and I want to see which group steps up. But I do like how deep Oakland's receivers are.
Marcus (Pa.)
You were at the Raiders OTA earlier this week, of the newcomers, who impressed you the most besides Juron Criner.
Bill Williamson (2:07 PM)
You know these OTAs are glorified passing camps. No real contact, no pass rush, no line combat. So it's really about the receivers and QBs. I like Criner and Palmer.
Chris (Bakersfield, CA)
Do you see the Raiders keeps both Schmitt and Reese on the roster. Schmitt is a good blocker. In Knapp offense does he use a blocking FB in the run game?
Bill Williamson (2:09 PM)
I think Scmhitt has a bit of an uphill battle, but I think he has a chance even when Reece reports. Knapp likes Schmitt.
Balls (God's country)
YO BW! Love your blog, you do great work. Chances Louis Murphy gets cut/traded by mid-season? He is a shadow of what he was his first 2 seasons.
Bill Williamson (2:11 PM)
Thanks sir ... I think Murphy may be the No. 4 or No. 5 receiver. Perhaps they offer him for trade late in the preseason. If Criner has a big camp and Murphy doesn't bounce back, he could be in toruble. I still say Murphy has an NFl future. He has ability.
SweetWeaz (Bay City, Mich)
Is Matt Shaughnessey gooing to play a bigger roll now that he's healthy? I was expecting a huge year last year from him
Bill Williamson (2:12 PM)
He's a really nice player. Oakland missed him last year when he went down with the shoulder. He should be healthy this year.
Mike (Arkansas)
Do you think the Chiefs have the tools to be the top running team in the NFL again?
Bill Williamson (2:13 PM)
If Charles is completley healthy, yes.
William (Evergreen, CO)
Hey Bill! Who do you think will be the best defensive team in the division? Broncos are a lock on offense!
Bill Williamson (2:17 PM)
I really like Kansas City's defense, espeivlaly if Poe comes on quickly.
Chris (Bakersfield, CA)
Hey Bill love you work. Lets say Palmer has a sub par season and the Raiders are picking in the top 15. Do you see McKenzie and Allen drafting a QB essentially getting "their guy"
Bill Williamson (2:18 PM)
Thanks, I think it would be a real possibility, yes. But if you're not picking in the top five, it may be ahrd to get an elite rookie QB.
Al (Wausau, WI)
Bill, for years Sebastian Janikowski has been one of the strongest-legged kickers in the NFL. Any idea how much longer he might be able to kick at a really good level?
Bill Williamson (2:18 PM)
He's a beast. I'd say, at least, five more years.
Nick (Alabama)
Bill,I can't help but think we San Diego needs on proven OT to bring in for depth. I see the OG Depth, even new blood at C, but what gives on OT. Injuries and loss of continuity on that OL was a big part of Rivers's stuggles and when he gets time he delivers.
Bill Williamson (2:20 PM)
Injuries on the line killed the Chargers last year. So depth is vitla. The Chargers have added some veteran pieces and I could see more depth coming beofre the start of the season.
SweetWeaz (Bay City, Mich)
How does the secondary in Denver looking going into the season? Is Chris Harris looking like he could have the potential to be in their long term plans as a starter?
Bill Williamson (2:21 PM)
Harris will have competition for the nickel job wiht Drayton Forence. However, Denver likes Harris a lot and he has a future in that secondary.
Jr Huntington beach [via mobile]
Who will have a better year, kamerion Wimbley, or Phillip wheeler?
Bill Williamson (2:23 PM)
Apples and oranges. Diffrent players. Wimbley is a pass-rusher and Wheeler is more of a run stopper. I do think Wimbley is valued around the league more than Wheeler, though.
McNutty (Seattle)
Does the signing of Dreesen and Tamme (Dreesetamme) mean that Denver is not counting on Julius Thomas this year?
Bill Williamson (2:24 PM)
They are giving Thomas time. Tamme and Dreessen are ready to go. Thomas is a developmental player. If he coems on strong (as he did in camp last year before he was injured), he'll get his chance.
peyton (florida)
hey Bill, is nate Irving going to start at mlb ?
Bill Williamson (2:25 PM)
Him or Joe Mays. It's time for Irving to come on after a quiet rookie season.
Alex (SD)
Matt Williamson said the Chargers undoing this year will be their offensive line and if anything happens to Gaither this O Line could be the worst in all of football. I dont know about that, but I have to say other than Gaither and Hardwich I dont have much confidence in the unitl. Thoughts?
Bill Williamson (2:26 PM)
I haven't seen that. I'll look. Matt knows his stuff. Gaither made that unit good last seaosn, so he is a major key for sure.
Chris (Bakersfield, CA)
Hey bill, whats the deal with Andre Hardy? He was in Oakland for 2 seconds. I thought the Raiders could use all the help they could get at TE. Was he just two big of a project?
Bill Williamson (2:27 PM)
Clearly, the Raiders thought he was way too far away from being an NFl prospect and they decided to move on.
Sergio (Tijuana, Mexico)
Hi Bill, what expectations do you have for Robert Meachem, can he be this year's Reggie Bush and live up to expectations with more playing time in SD?
Bill Williamson (2:30 PM)
He will be given a huge opportunity. He has great speed and and he is a vertical threat. That is perfect for Philip Rivers' arm and Norv Turner's scheme. They expect him to be a differnece maker. I think health is the key for him.
Kip (New York, NY)
Any remaining free agent RB's that you see ending up in the AFC West?
Bill Williamson (2:31 PM)
Cedric Benson and Ryan Clark are two of the remaining RBs. They've been potu there for a while.
Atilla (St. Louis)
ffhunnBill - what do you see that makes you believe that Ballwin can make the step to become a better than average receiver. I was not impressed with the fight issues last year, and I hoping he grew from that experience. His best catch was one that was nullified against Denver behind the safety's back.
Bill Williamson (2:31 PM)
He has big ability and he fits the offense. He has a chance. But he has to keep his head on straight.
Dat Dude Darth (Philadelphia, PA)
Any chance Barksdale dethrones Barnes ?
Bill Williamson (2:34 PM)
He will have to earn it. Barnes is getting paid like a starter. But I think if Barksdale makes strides, he should be given the chance to play because of his youth and Barnes is just a journeyman.
Mattybyd (Sand Diego fan in Colorado)
Hello Bill, I would first start out by saying it would be great to have you at the AFC West retreat, secondly with the veteran RB market dwindeling do you see the Chargers getting in on one or sticking with who they currenlty have?
Bill Williamson (2:35 PM)
I certainly hope to meet everyone ... I have on the Chargers' RB situaiton at 3 p.m. ET.
Mike(Stockton,CA) [via mobile]
Should the raiders move Reece to TE? I believe if they do he can be a force in the middle and be a Dallas Clark type TE
Bill Williamson (2:38 PM)
I checked into that this week while at the Raiders' camp. The Raiders don't currently plan to move Reece to TE full=time, but there will be some packages where he plays TE.
Tony (Richmond, CA)
Now that McFadden is back at 100%. Can the Raiders win the AFC West if he stays that way?
Bill Williamson (2:38 PM)
Along with a big year from Palmer, and improved defense.
Kyle (WI)
How many catches do you predict Royal will have this season?
Bill Williamson (2:38 PM)
35-45.
Balls (God's country)
Should KC use the other DMC (McCluster) as trade bait?
Bill Williamson (2:39 PM)
Nah, he gives another option. I like him.
Rob (Fla.)
What current NFL receiver does Juron Criner most remind you of (besides himself)? Obviously a lot of excitement over him after this week.
Bill Williamson (2:41 PM)
OK, I'm setting myself up because this is just May and he has a lot, I mean, a lot of work to do, but I he reminds me of Cris Carter. Not saying he is going to become Cris Carter, just answering your question.
Possum (up a tree )
Do you think Stokley will make the 53 man roster?
Ken Gones (PA)
Heard Mike & Mike questioning Philip Rivers being in the "Elite" QB group the other day. Schefty said if it weren't for Rivers' down year in 2011 he would be on his list. Does Rivers get back on track this year? He still threw for over 4,000 yards in '11!!
Bill Williamson (2:45 PM)
I don't think they would have brougth him in if they didn't think he'd make it. But the numbers game can be tough. Plus, Stokley doesn't play special teams, so it could be difficult. On Rivers; Just cut down on the turnovers, which he did toward the end of last season.
Derrick ((Toledo, OH) )
As long as everyone comes back from injury 100%, how much better do you think the Chiefs are compared to the 2010 Division Champ team and do you think they can make it to the Superbowl?
Bill Williamson (2:49 PM)
I'm not going talk about the Super Bowl in May, but I think the Chiefs can be very much improved from 2010 if they stay healthy and Cassel takes advantage of his weapons.
Bill Williamson (2:49 PM)
I'm not going talk about the Super Bowl in May, but I think the Chiefs can be very much improved from 2010 if they stay healthy and Cassel takes advantage of his weapons.
Bill Williamson (2:50 PM)
Sorry. I had a tech. issue for the past few minutes.
Bill Williamson (2:50 PM)
Sorry. I had a tech. issue for the past few minutes.
Sergio (Tijuana, Mexico)
Hi Bill, can the chargers get enough from the SS position (Bigby/Taylor) to make it work on D?
Bill Williamson (2:50 PM)
Sure, I think so.
The Dr. (SD)
Is it too early to call Denarius Moore a future Pro Bowler?
Bill Williamson (2:51 PM)
Yeah, let's see what he does this year. Not a knock, just hate to proclaim someone with less than 40 career cathces a sure thing.
D (kcmo)
should kansas city fans be worried about Poe holding out?
Bill Williamson (2:52 PM)
Nah, I don't see many rookeis holding out. Just because he is unsigned on May 17, it means nothing.
Bob (Fremont)
Is there excitement in the Raider's camp? You had mentioned your wife is a Raider fan? Does she give you a hard time like the Raidernation tends to??
Bill Williamson (2:53 PM)
Oh she gives me a hard time, but it's has nothing to do with football. Just wife stuff.
Christian (KS)
If Eric Berry stays on track from where he was before his injury how many years before he's recognized as the top Safety playing the game?
Bill Williamson (2:54 PM)
He was on his way as a rookie, so yes. He's special.
Christian (Kansas)
Hey Bill, are you going to be visiting any of the Chief's OTA's or camps this season?
Bill Williamson (2:55 PM)
Training camp, yes.
McNutty (Seattle)
In 3 years, who will be the better player: Derek Wolfe or Poe?
Bill Williamson (2:56 PM)
If I had to guess, Poe. Much more ability, but we will see.
Nevin (Parts Unknown)
Is Palmer ready to regain elite status? Right now that aren't many teams that would even trade a sack of burritos, a case of frozen otter pops, a large turkey leg, a gigantic bowl of corn, a Prince's greatest hits cd, a black plastic serving spoon, an ice cube tray and a mustard dispenser for Palmer. Seems like Oakland is playing a deadly game going into this season with Palmer at the helm.
Bill Williamson (2:57 PM)
So sad, Jk, so dad.
NoShow Moreno (FA list (?))
Do I have a job in Denver? I think Hillman just became my replacement.
Bill Williamson (2:57 PM)
You need to pick it up for sure.
Tim (El Cajon, CA)
Bill, of the 4 starting QB's in the West, who would you want leading your team this year? Having a tech issue here too. This puppy doesnt want to send!
Bill Williamson (2:59 PM)
Got to be Manning, right?
Will (Iowa)
Hey bill who is the best running in the afc west if all are 100% healthy in your opinion?
Bill Williamson (2:59 PM)
McFadden and Charles are very, very close. Health is an issue for both.
McNutty (Seattle)
No question, just a statement. During the Retreat, do not accept any drinks from the Dr. He's not trustworthy.
Bill Williamson (3:00 PM)
I'll keep my eyes peeled.
David (Austin)
What is going to happen if Dwyane Bowe does not sign his tender? What recourse will the Chiefs have?
Bill Williamson (3:01 PM)
He'd lose $9 million. Not going to happen.
Christian (Kansas)
who has the best running back duo in the afc west?
Bill Williamson (3:01 PM)
Charles and Hillis. Not even close.
Bill Williamson (3:02 PM)
Great hour, folks. Out next week. Talk to you May 31.
