Benjamin is here!
Jordan (Columbus, Ohio)
Ben, how has the culture changed in the Browns organization during your tenure there?
Benjamin Watson (1:59 PM)
I think now there is definitely a lot of excitement. With the new coaching staff and draft picks. Last year, we were finding ourselves. With the lockout, we didn't have a chance to get together and learn the offense. This year, we know we can improve.
Darren (Chicago)
What's your favorite offseason activity or vacation spot?
Benjamin Watson (2:00 PM)
Favorite offseason activity is probably going somewhere with the wife and kids. I have a 3 year old and 2 year old and 7 month old. We went to Orlando for about 6 weeks. Met Mickey. The whole bit.
Dave (Ohio)
What was going throgh your mind during the draft?
Benjamin Watson (2:01 PM)
Somebody please pick me. I was the 32nd pick in the first round, but it was still 5 hours in the first round. I was sitting there in silence. I didn't know who was going to take me. It was nervewracking.
Derrick (Chicago)
How hard was it going through the lockout last summer?
Benjamin Watson (2:01 PM)
The uncertainty was the hardest part. Not knowing if football was going to start tomorrow, next month in two months. There were some good things, I had some young kids, being able to be home during that time was good. But the hardest part was the uncertainty.
Stephen (Detroit)
Just how important is this concussion issue in the NFL?
Benjamin Watson (2:03 PM)
It's very important. It's important in the NFL, but also in college and high school. It's a trickle down effect. We all know there will be concussions, but being able to treat them the best you can, so there are no permanent, long lasting effects.
KEvin (DC)
how much do you pay attention to offseason activities like the draft and free agency moves?
Benjamin Watson (2:03 PM)
Not that much. I pay attention to the draft. The only thing are the guys that I know that I pay attention to.
Alex (Anaheim)
Do you play fantasy football?
Benjamin Watson (2:04 PM)
No I don't. Funny story....my rookie year, fantasy football was just starting to grow. I tore my ACL in 2004. I'm on crutches and I'm somewhere and this guy said "come on Ben, you messed up my whole fantasy league." I was like "what is fantasy league and why is this guy yelling at me?"
Dave (Miami)
What was a bigger swell of emotion: winning the super bowl or losing the super bowl?
Benjamin Watson (2:06 PM)
Losing it. Because when we won it, I was on the field, but I wasn't playing. I had torn my ACL. It was very exciting to be a part of it that season. But actually playing the Super Bowl and losing was very overwhelming. It was very tough.
Kenny L (cleveland, ohio)
How do you think B. Weedne will do in the westcoast system?
Benjamin Watson (2:06 PM)
It remains to be seen. He has the talent. He has the big arm. He is very mature for a rookie. He's used to winning, but there is still a transition that has to happen. That will happen over these OTAs and this offseason.
Matt (Pittsburgh Pa)
Ben, keep up the great work and your so underrated as one of the best tight ends in the game, but i just wanted your opinion on coach o'brien and how well you think hell do at happy valley?
Benjamin Watson (2:08 PM)
I think it's going to be a learning curve for him. It's his first time as a head coach. But he is a good coach and he has a good system. That New England system has a lot of creativity. He has a wealthy of knowledge. He has to have some time to bring it to the college game.
Ted (Dallas)
What is the one TV show/movie that you don't want your teammates knowing you like watching?
Benjamin Watson (2:08 PM)
The Notebook.
Benjamin Watson (2:09 PM)
But I really don't care if they know I watch it or not. I'm 31 and married with 3 kids, I don't care. I'm the oldest person in the lockerroom and I'm not worried about what you think.
Chris (Ohio)
What's the worst part about the offseason?
Benjamin Watson (2:10 PM)
I would say the fact that it ends. Just like the season is great because you're in the season mode. You're working and doing stuff with the team. The same with the offseason. It ends abruptly. Those 2-3 days after the season is a tough transition and the first week is tough getting back to work mode.
Jake (NC)
Is there a team you especially dislike? And if so, would you pull for them to get to the Super Bowl just to lose?
Benjamin Watson (2:11 PM)
There is no team that I really hate that much, because I know guys on pretty much every team at this point. When I was at New England, I didn't like the Chargers, that was just because of the playoff games we had against them. But there is no team I hate so much that I would root for them to get to the Super Bowl to lose.
Jason (Ma)
Being so close to the HOF do you ever go there and either study or motivate yourself with the TE's already there? and who do you mold yourself after?
Benjamin Watson (2:13 PM)
I have not been there unfortunately. It is on my to do list before I leave Cleveland. A friend of mine was visiting and he was there the other day. I have not been there yet.
A.Dakala (Atlanta) [via mobile]
Do you workout a lot on the off season? And what workouts do you do?
Benjamin Watson (2:13 PM)
Yes, working out with the team. We started back April 16. 4 days a week we have lifting and running, meetings and field work.
Tony (Columbus)
With Trent Richardson in the fold how do you think his presence will open up things for you and guys like Greg Little and Evan Moore?
Benjamin Watson (2:14 PM)
The run game is very important. Everyone talks about it being a passing league, but everything works off the run game. The playaction pass is huge. The running game can be huge. If you can have a substantial run threat, it makes the teams load the box and you can get some mismatches.
Eddie (St. Louis)
Who is the most aggressive D-End you have faced in your career
Benjamin Watson (2:15 PM)
The Giants D-line is aggressive. We played them in the Super Bowl in 2007 in New England. That was the main reason they won, the DL.
Benjamin Watson (2:15 PM)
The same thing this year with them.
Benjamin Watson (2:17 PM)
Thanks for chatting. I enjoyed answering your questions. Thanks for your support, for me personally and for the Browns. Follow me on Twitter: @BenjaminSWatson. God bless. See you think season.
