NBA Finals Pregame Chat
D'Arcy Maine (7:58 PM)
Greetings from Miami for Game 5! This might be the last time we can make LeBron jokes so I fully expect you all to bring your A Game. For 'ol times sake.
mr lee [via mobile]
Do you think that if okc wins tonight, they should go back home and finish last two?
D'Arcy Maine (7:59 PM)
Is it really an option? I would imagine they're contractually obligated to play if they force a Game 6...
D'Arcy Maine (8:00 PM)
But, seriously, they believe they can still do this (or at least that's what they're saying publicly) so I think they'll give it all they have for however many games they can.
TD [via mobile]
will the heat close out the series tonight?
D'Arcy Maine (8:02 PM)
I'm not sure, TD. They're certainly focused and would like to do in front of the home crowd. But beating the Thunder four games in a row? That's hard to believe. I think OKC wins, everyone drags themselves back to OKC... and then the Heat win in 6.
Jarrod Gillen (Miami, Florida) [via mobile]
Why is it that everyone went from rooting for their team to rooting for their regular season opponent the Oklahoma city Thunder? And what is your opinion on those people that jump on what was the favored team to win before the NBA finals started?
D'Arcy Maine (8:06 PM)
It's a lot more fun to have a rooting interest in the series and would be almost impossible to watch a series and not feel something for one of the teams in it. And, I know this will come as a HUGE surprise here but... a lot of people don't like this Heat team. That really only leaves the Thunder.
doy (NJ) [via mobile]
will LeBron be 100% tonight
D'Arcy Maine (8:09 PM)
I think so. But there is almost nothing that would stop him from playing tonight. And definitely not a leg cramp from 48 hours ago. He says he feels totally fine now and has been paying close attention to his hydration and diet since to prevent that from happening again tonight. Expect him to be close to 100% tonight.
james, tn [via mobile]
which heat players do you think need to play a key role so the team can it all?
D'Arcy Maine (8:10 PM)
Not named LeBron, Wade or Bosh? Battier was major contributor in the first three games and Chalmers was a huge reason for the win on Tuesday, I think production from either or both of those guys would definitely help this team tonight. Honestly, if any of the Heat role players can have a huge game tonight, in addition to solid play from all of the Big Three, I think Miami could take this one tonight in front of the home crowd.
Guest [via mobile]
LECHOKE That was my A game.........
D'Arcy Maine (8:10 PM)
THAT was your A game? Yikes. I can only imagine what your C game looks like.
Eric,, lou,ky [via mobile]
Is lebron in illuminati
D'Arcy Maine (8:11 PM)
Ask Jay-Z and Beyonce. I think that's their thing.
Luke D. [via mobile]
Will it be weird for Durant and LeBron to play on US team together?
D'Arcy Maine (8:15 PM)
Nah. These guys are all professionals. In just a few weeks, they will switch their focus to representing the U.S. and come together the best they can to do that. Although I'm sure there will be some friendly trash-talk in camp...
Josh [via mobile]
Do you think we see a "Game 6 Boston" show from Lebron?
D'Arcy Maine (8:17 PM)
You didn't think that was a good job, good effort? LeBron seems pretty focused to me, I don't think we'll see him let up tonight.
Tristan S. (Bronx) [via mobile]
Was wondering if you think Juwan Howard can reverse the Fab Five curse by winning them a ring tonight? They were all losers.
D'Arcy Maine (8:18 PM)
You have to hope so considering all he's done this season, Tristan S. from the Bronx. I kid, I kid. I do think he'll break the curse. Pretty amazing when you think about that no one from that squad has won a ring past high school.
anthony [via mobile]
I honestly can't imagine the heat not winning tonight. Lebrons got the last milestone neccessary in his sights his game is off the charts I just can't see him letting this slip. On top of the fact the "king of the choke" has smashed "mr clutch" in clutch time this series. Nah not happeneding MIA 105 - 97
D'Arcy Maine (8:20 PM)
Keep sending in those predictions!
sam sneed North Carolina [via mobile]
The Heat will win in convincing fashion tonight! Don't want to take that trip back to OKC!
Wes Australia [via mobile]
Cavs ! ..... Thunder will come back.
Chris (Largo, FL)
I haven't wrote this off just yet. If the Thunder win Game 5, I firmly believe that the OKC crowd will push the Thunder to an elite level that not even the Heat can handle. Thoughts?
D'Arcy Maine (8:21 PM)
It's a nice thought but I don't see it, Chris. I think this OKC squad is just too young and inexperienced to win three games with their backs against the wall.
Greg, Charlotte [via mobile]
So does this mean the end of LeBron jokes?
D'Arcy Maine (8:24 PM)
I think it means we can't blame LeBron for the bullying of the school bus monitor or our country's economic woes anymore. People can always find a way to make fun of the 'Decision' or his receeding hairline but I think at this point he's left us with little to rag on about his game.
Mike(LA) [via mobile]
Is Lebron James The Devil?
D'Arcy Maine (8:25 PM)
I hope not. Mainly because I'm sitting in the same building as him.
v.i. in Houston [via mobile]
The thunder are going to pull this one out k.d will score 45 point in a win
brandon hinge, kentucky [via mobile]
When was the last time a player won the mvp and finals mvp in the same season?
D'Arcy Maine (8:27 PM)
That would be the one and only Tim Duncan in 2003, Brandon. Will LeBron do it this year? Can't know for sure but I'm guessing the odds are in his favor. I know he would at least appreciate that 'Hunger Games' reference.
Wade rep MN [via mobile]
How to you feel this game will be called?? Fouls and all ?? Fair? Unfair?? Who gets the calls their way tonight ?
D'Arcy Maine (8:30 PM)
I would think in an elimination game these refs would do everything in their power to call this game as fairly as possible. However, if you're a conspiracy theorist (and I know some of you are), would have to think the NBA would want this to game as many games as possible considering how the ratings, attention, etc. are...
Jorge (Chicago) [via mobile]
How amazing was Westbrook's performance on Monday?
D'Arcy Maine (8:33 PM)
I think you mean Tuesday, Jorge. Unless you were impressed by his performance at a swanky restaurant or playing video games with his teammates.
D'Arcy Maine (8:34 PM)
Westbrook was dominant in Game 4, although it wasn't enough to lift the team. Has to be a strange feeling knowing that you gave it everything you had and yet it still wasn't enough. Ia??m not sure what that does to onea??s psyche, especially entering a game as important as tonighta??s. OKC will need him to put on the same type of offensive clinic tonight and avoid stupid late-game fouls if they want to stave off elimination.
Steven (Tampa) [via mobile]
Darcy can you compare watching these 2 (Kd and Lebron) with the greats going back to bird v magic
D'Arcy Maine (8:36 PM)
It's a great question. I read today on ESPN.com (shameless plug!) that even Larry Legend thinks this rivalry trumps his with Magic as these two are going head-to-head. I think this ultimately will go down as one of the greatest individual rivalries in NBA history. This will not be the last time we see these two players meeting in the Finals. Count on that one.
Jack (Stillwater, OK) [via mobile]
Will you come to Oklahoma if the Thunder win?
D'Arcy Maine (8:38 PM)
Yup, I'll be there. I have a flight booked for OKC for tomorrow morning and the ESPN travel department on speed dial in case the Heat win and that needs to be changed. If Miami wins tonight, there wona??t be a busier group of workers in the country than the ESPN travel group. I do not envy them.
Claytron Florida [via mobile]
Do u think its norris coles turn to have a breakout game like chalmers
D'Arcy Maine (8:40 PM)
The Heat need role players to step up. Is it Cole's turn? No way to know for sure until after tip-off. He had eight points on Tuesday (his most of the series) so maybe that gave him some confidence for tonight.
rahim(la) [via mobile]
Why is everyone hating on lebron because he left cleveland yet loving okc even though their entire franchise left a city taking all that teams acomplishments wit them
D'Arcy Maine (8:41 PM)
Everyone? Want to speak up for yourselves?
Rudy, US VIRGIN ISLANDS [via mobile]
If Miami win do u think all the negitive talks about Miami or Lebron will continue?
D'Arcy Maine (8:43 PM)
I think it will definitely silence a lot of the critics. There will always be some people though that just won't get over LeBron's 'Decision'. But that number will be significantly less with a title.
D'Arcy Maine (8:44 PM)
On the flip side, can you imagine the criticism/outrage/punchlines if the Heat somehow screw this up? It would be a whole other level of hatred...
anthony [via mobile]
I think truthfully its cuz he didn't leave for their team had they there wouldn't be an issue so... The only reasonable thing is to make 29 copies of lebron and assign one to each team and then no more complaints
D'Arcy Maine (8:45 PM)
Can you do that for us?
Mike.... Anaheim, CA [via mobile]
Saw Kobe had the top selling jersey this year, are you suprised by this?
D'Arcy Maine (8:46 PM)
While I wouldna??t buy his jersey I cana??t say Ia??m surprised. Hea??s an international superstar. This marks the sixth-straight year Kobe has had the honor of best-selling NBA jersey internationally (Derrick Rose had the best-selling jersey in the U.S. however). Aside from his on-court play, I think Kobea??s ties to Italy and his fluency in the language help his image around the globe. Just a thought.
The rock Chicago [via mobile]
I think okc will win tonigh is going 2 be a history come back 7 games
D'Arcy Maine (8:46 PM)
Bold. Live it up, Rock.
Seth co [via mobile]
Are there any injuries from the heat starting squad that might hinder their performance
D'Arcy Maine (8:49 PM)
That's sort of a trick question, Seth. All of the Big Three have had some injury issues this postseason but they seem to all be doing okay. I don't think any of them will have hindered performances, I expect what we've seen the last three games.
Mel [via mobile]
Kobe/Lebron Kobe/Lebron, I used to play Kobe but now I play Lebron
D'Arcy Maine (8:51 PM)
I used to play hide-and-seek, now I play grown-up*.
Florids [via mobile]
Tonights game is big for both side!
D'Arcy Maine (8:52 PM)
Truer words really have never been spoken.
Sam (Iowa) [via mobile]
Wilbon wrote today that Lebron says reading has made him calmer. Do you buy this?
D'Arcy Maine (8:53 PM)
Well, the proof is in the pudding, right? Hea??s certainly seemed a lot calmer and confident this postseason. If thata??s really the reason, I think thata??s great. Sends a good message to his young fans as well. Maybe the a??Hunger Gamesa?? prepared him to be the last one standinga?¦
ToN [via mobile]
Whats wrong with a FA signing with a team of his choice, anyway?
D'Arcy Maine (8:58 PM)
It wasn't that he chose to leave Cleveland that people had a problem with, it was the way it was done. Have to say though, considering what some other athletes have done with their off-court/off-field lives, we should probably get over it. Bad PR move by LeBron but he's done enough since that we should just focus on the present. Just me?
SS Pistons town [via mobile]
What's your prediction for today's game?
D'Arcy Maine (8:58 PM)
I'm taking the Thunder, 85-81. Heat close this one out on Sunday... in front of 19K depreseed OKC fans. Party foul.
D'Arcy Maine (8:59 PM)
That does it for me, gang. Thanks for the questions and predictions! Enjoy the game!!!
