Chat with Andre Drummond

Welcome to SportsNation! On Tuesday, NBA prospect Andre Drummond stops by to chat as he prepares for the NBA draft on Thursday night.
Drummond declared for the NBA draft following just one season at UConn, where the 6-foot-11 center averaged 10.0 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game.
ESPN.com's Chad Ford lists Drummond as the sixth-best player in the 2012 draft and lists his NBA body and excellent rebounding and shotblocking skills as some of his biggest assets.
Send your questions now and join Drummond Tuesday at 1:15 p.m. ET!

Chris Canty (1:37 PM)
Hello!
Jason (New York)
When did you know you had what it takes to make it to the NBA?
Andre Drummond (1:38 PM)
Growing up it was always a dream. I just always though as long as I worked hard that someone would take a look at me and know I could play in the NBA.
Matt (Houston)
Andre, great job last season. Let's say 10 year old Andre Drummond could make an appearance right now. Who would 10 year old Andre most want to play for and would you still want to play for that same team today?
Andre Drummond (1:39 PM)
The 10-year-old Andre would wanted to have played with Dwight in Orlando!
Andre (Canada)
Have you gotten any advice from former UConn players about the draft process and the pro life in general?
Andre Drummond (1:39 PM)
Yeah, Rudy Gay and Ray Allen told me to just do everything to the best of my ability and do everything the coaches tell you. Run the floor and grab rebounds. Just do what I do best.
Deven (Buffalo, NY)
Are you nervous about going to the NBA?
Andre Drummond (1:40 PM)
Honestly, the whole thing hasn't really hit me yet. I'm just working out right now. It has hit my mom hard though! She's a nervous wreck. It will really kick in on Thursday night.
Brad (Gadsden,Alabama)
Andre, If you were not playing basketball what do you think you would be doing?
Andre Drummond (1:41 PM)
I'm definitely going back to school to be a computer engineer.
Bill (Bedford)
What made yu decide to declare for the draft this year?
Andre Drummond (1:42 PM)
It wasn't an easy decision. I just felt it was an opportunity I couldn't pass on. Not everyone gets the chance to be drafted. I felt I was ready to take the step and be coached by the greatest coaches in the world and play against the best players.
steve (denver, colorado)
As a huge Portland fan, I think you could really help my Blazers but the main question I have is your free throw shooting. 26%!?? You do realize that you could be a superstar if you got that to even 65 or 70%. What do you plan on doing to work on that. That is the only part of your game that scares me.
Andre Drummond (1:43 PM)
Yes. All I do now is work on my game and that is a big part of what I'm doing. It's something you always have to work at.
Jason Miller (Vermont)
What will you miss most about Uconn and college basketball?
Andre Drummond (1:43 PM)
Just being able to walk around campus and see all the fans and how they greet you and talk to you. Just being a college student in general is something I'll miss.
Thomas K. (Virginia)
How many championships do you think LeBron James will win with the Heat?
Andre Drummond (1:44 PM)
He has a great chance to win many. The sky is the limit for him.
Trevor (Minnesoda)
What was your favorite NBA player as a kid?
Andre Drummond (1:44 PM)
Growing up I loved Michael Jordan. I loved watching his highlights. The greatest player in the world.
George (Norwalk, CT)
Who has been your biggest influence since you first started playing basketball?
Andre Drummond (1:45 PM)
Just my uncle Phil. He really got me started in basketball and got me to work out and become a better player. My mom has also been my biggest supporter. She has been to just about every game I've ever played in my life.
Andre (Canada)
What is the #1 thing you learned from coach Calhoun this year?
Andre Drummond (1:46 PM)
Just always to play your hardest on every position. He always told us to be the best person we can be and I'll remember that.
Ryan S. [via mobile]
Where do you expect to go in the draft? Also, what do you believe you can deliver to a team?
Andre Drummond (1:47 PM)
I don't really read anything about where I might go. I don't even look at the mock drafts. Wherever the cards fall is where I will be go. I'll bring a lot. I'll run the floor, grab rebounds and defend.
Buzzmaster (1:47 PM)
Andre getting some good advice from Chris Canty's dad right now!
David [via mobile]
If you could compare yourself to a NBA player.... who would it be
Andre Drummond (1:49 PM)
I've heard everything from Dwight Howard to A'Mare. I've heard it all.
Blake (Carrollton)
Can you see yourself in an Atlanta Hawks uniform ?
Andre Drummond (1:49 PM)
I could see myself in any uniform! I'm going to play my hardest wherever I go.
Andre (Canada)
Did all the teams you have worked out for put you through a similar drill routine, or have some of them been vastly different than others?
Andre Drummond (1:50 PM)
Some of the teams do ball-handling, some do back-to-the-basket things, etc. It depends on the team.
Deven (Buffalo, NY)
Are their certain players in the NBA that you look forward to play against?
Andre Drummond (1:51 PM)
Everybody in the NBA is the greatest to play the game so it will be awesome to play against any of them.
Andre Drummond (1:53 PM)
Thanks for your questions! I'll be on SportsCenter at 2:40 so be sure to tune in!
