Hey everyone, Chad had to push back his chat to 2 p.m. Make sure you tune in then!
Chad Ford (2:01 PM)
Aloha everyone. Sorry we're running an hour late. Phone ringing off the hook. Chasing lots of rumors (mostly baseless ones). I've got 45 minutes ... lets go ...
Connor (New Orleans)
If you were building a franchise, and could take any 12 players and have them for the rest of their careers, would Anthony Davis make it?
Chad Ford (2:04 PM)
For sure. Let's put it this way. If the Hornets wanted to trade the draft rights to Davis today ... I think there is only three players they COULDN'T trade him for: LeBron, Kevin Durant and Chris Paul. Normally I'd add Dwight Howard and Derrick Rose to the mix. But with Dwight Howard threatening to bolt Orlando, of course the Magic would do the deal. And given the seriousness of Rose's injury, I think the Bulls would seriously consider pulling the trigger too. Remember, Davis is from Chicago as well.
Chad Ford (2:05 PM)
Sorry ... one second. Working on something ...
Omar (Charlotte)
You don't think the Bobcats hole at SF now that Maggette is gone will influence their pick do you?
Chad Ford (2:08 PM)
Not really. Bobcats have holes everywhere. I do think this has been narrowed down to Thomas Robinson and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. Robinson's camp pretty confident they're going 2 if the Bobcats keep the pick.
Len ( Lexington)
Who would the wizards take if another team took Beal at #2?
Chad Ford (2:09 PM)
I think Harrison Barnes is the next guy on their board. They believe he can play some two and they desperately need shooter.
Suman Vellanki (Southern India)
What have you heard is the Cavs big board 1-4?
Chad Ford (2:10 PM)
Think it's this. 1. Davis 2. Beal 3. MKG 4. Barnes Barnes and Kidd-Gilchrist are really close. They've been going back and forth. Right now, MKG in the lead.
Marc (Sacramento, CA)
There is absolutely no way the Kings trade out of the #5 pick with MKG available to them, right??
Chad Ford (2:13 PM)
If they do, I'm writing a fire Geoff Petrie column every day for the rest of the summer. Also really like Thomas Robins Understand if they trade it, however, if it's Harrison Barnes. Don't need another gunner. Probably can get values for that pick.
Marc (Sacramento, CA)
A friend told me about a rumored trade involving Sac and Bos. Kings send Tyreke and the 5th pick to the Celtics for Rondo and the 21st and 22nd picks. I told him he was crazy but thought I would check in with you first.
Chad Ford (2:14 PM)
Celtics did REALLY like Evans prior to the draft. But don't see them giving away Rondo anymore. Especially with the future of Kevin Garnett still up in the air. Celtics want him back.
Fern (PDX, OR)
Is there any chance in the slightest that Lillard falls to the Blazers at 11? Or is there a possible deal that the Blazers could pull off to move up to grab both Drummond and Lillard?
Chad Ford (2:15 PM)
Blazers have to make a choice between Lillard and Drummond. Neither guy is on the board at 11. I think it's Lillard, but Drummond still very much in this as is Dion Waiters by the way.
Scott (Oakland, CA)
Tell me the Warriors aren't going to take Drummond at 7? Please...
Chad Ford (2:17 PM)
Might. I think Jerry West is pushing Waiters. Owner Joe Lacob is intrigued with Drummond. Barnes also in the picture if he falls. I honestly don't think the Warriors know yet. This is why you have to take our Mock Draft, and ANY Mock Draft with a grain of salt. No matter how well connected I am, I can't tell you what a team is going to do when even they don't know. Things will get clearer on Thursday ... HOWEVER, I know many teams who have made their choice in the draft room while on the clock.
gdr (Toronto)
In your opinion, are the Raptors going to trade the #8 pick? I heard they had Lillard in for a 2nd look, just posturing or would they take him over Waiters?
Chad Ford (2:19 PM)
They'd take him if Waiters was off the board. The question for the Raptors is what if Lillard and Waiters are off the board. That's a tough one and a disappointing one for Toronto. Don't think they'd take Drummond. Probably between Jeremy Lamb, Austin Rivers and Terrence Ross. They'd LOVE it if Harrison Barnes fell to them and have explored moving up in the draft. Would the Cavs do 4 for 8 and Ed Davis?
Nick (Chicago)
Can Andre Drummond fall to the pistons at number 9? DO the pistons have the tools to moving up to lets say 7 to get him? At the end of the day who has the better career leynord or drummond?
Chad Ford (2:21 PM)
He can fall to 9. It's a very real possibility. If he does, I think they grab Drummond over John Henson and Tyler Zeller (the other two bigs on the Pistons board). Pistons might be able to move up, but not sure they want to burn an asset to do it ... especially after they gave up their 2013 first round pick (protected) to get Ben Gordon of the books.
Scott (New Orleans)
Please tell me that the Hornets won't take Austin Rivers with #10! Don't we have more pressing needs (like a center) or the ability to gamble (on say, PJ3).
Chad Ford (2:22 PM)
I think Rivers goes 8 or 10. Outside chance he could go 6, but I doubt it. Not sure I understand the Hornets' reasoning here. Not only does he not fit a need (unless they aren't going to re-sign Eric Gordon) but why would you draft someone like Davis and then a blackhole guard who averages more turnovers than assists. Seems like you'd want guards who were great at getting the big fella the ball.
Bryce (WI)
What do you see the Bucks doing at #12?
Chad Ford (2:23 PM)
John Henson, Tyler Zeller, Jeremy Lamb, Terrence Ross seem to be the four guys in that order.
Shane (Phoenix)
Here in PHX, there's some discussion that the Suns have an interest in Moultrie @ 13. Any chance they take him instead of a wing??
Chad Ford (2:24 PM)
They do like him at 13. Doesn't fit a need, but need isn't the only important thing. They'd love it if Austin Rivers, Dion Waiters or Jeremy Lamb fell to them. Terrence Ross might also be there, but he didn't workout for Phoenix.
Jambo (Houston)
Any Rockets trades going down today?
Chad Ford (2:26 PM)
We're waiting. They are talking to everyone. Lots of interest, but haven't been able to seal the deal yet. I think the Kings at No. 5 is the most realistic, especially if MKG goes 4. But don't believe the bogus reports that this is some larger deal with Tyreke Evans and Kyle Lowry ... This would be 14, 16, 18 and perhaps one other young prospect from Rockets roster.
Derek (Harrisburg)
Do you think Perry Jones could fall to the Sixers?
Chad Ford (2:27 PM)
Yes and I sort of like him here. Lottery is probably too big of gamble, but in the mid first round, I think I'd roll the dice ... somewhere around here. I think Terrence Ross is their primary target here.
Logan (Los Angeles)
Who are the Mavs going to get? Not sure I don't like the Kendall Marshall or Terrence Jones predictions. What about Royce White?
Chad Ford (2:27 PM)
I think it's Terrence Jones then Kendall Marshall. Not feeling Royce White here.
john k (charleston, sc)
Any chance R White falls to the Nuggets? I think G Karl loves versatile guys and with Miller an UFA, gives them a fallback as RW can bring it up as point fwd. If not him, any idea who they really like?
Chad Ford (2:28 PM)
White could go here. So could Kendall Marshall. Andrew Nicholson too.
Dave (Orlando)
What will it eventually take to get Dwight away from the Magic?
Chad Ford (2:31 PM)
Here's the deal. The teams that Dwight would be comfortable playing for ... Lakers, Nets, Mavs ... don't have ANYTHING to offer the Magic really. Lakers do have Bynum, but they seem unwilling to part with him. Gasol and pieces won't get it done for Hennigan. So the Rockets offer of multiple first round picks might be the best they're going to get. It's crazy, but that's what happens when your star holds you hostage. Not sure the Rockets can acquire enough assets and not sure the Magic are ready to make a move, but they'd at least have to listen.
JJ (Liberty Twp, OH)
Do you think Royce White will last until the Celtics pick? Where would he go if he didn't have his "anxiety disorder"?
Chad Ford (2:32 PM)
Good chance he does. Lots of interest, but teams aren't sure. Without the anxiety disorder and with a cleaner background ... Top 10 probably. Danny Ainge has never been afraid to take chances on unusual people (Rondo, Delonte West, Rasheed Wallace). Thats why I think they'd be perfect for each other
Andrew (Atlanta)
How will the hiring of Danny Ferry affect the Hawks draft? Are the Hawks still willing to move Smith for a lottery pick?
Chad Ford (2:34 PM)
Might be more willing now that Ferry is in the fold. I think he realizes the team needs a shake-up and Smith is the most likely to go. I think Rockets will go after him if they can't get Dwight. Quincy Miller and Tony Wroten are possibilities at 23.
Joey B (Washington DC)
With 2x All American Jared Sullinger getting "red flagged", where do you think he ends up and how much of an impact do you believe he has in the league?
Chad Ford (2:36 PM)
Feels like his first landing place may be Orlando. Doubt he slips past Celtics or Hawks. No one knows how this will affect his career. Normally these red flags turn out to be much ado about nothing. But sometimes, remember Curtis Borchardt?, they're right on early on or, remember Brandon Roy, right on later on. I do like Sullinger and think whoever gets them in this range probably gets a bargain.
Benjamin (Memphis)
Who do you think the Grizzlies should go with? Some say Jenkins, Wroten, or Barton. What do you say?
Chad Ford (2:37 PM)
Marquis Teague if he's still there. To me he's a steal anywhere in the late teens to early 20s. Would've been a Top 10 pick in 2013. Ditto for Quincy Miller.
Aaron (Indianapolis)
Now that Pritchard is on board w/ Pacers, where will he make his 1st trade on draft night?
Chad Ford (2:40 PM)
Careful now. Donnie Walsh is there too and he has the final say on things. Two very different styles between him and Pritchard. I'm interested to see how that works. But both are crazy talented talent evaluators. I do think you could see them move Darren Collison to get in the Top 10.
Jack (Front row at Staples Center)
So are the Lakers going to do anything at regarding this draft?
Chad Ford (2:41 PM)
They are trying. Marc Stein and I are just reporting that the Lakers have been quietly gauging the trade interest of both Pau Gasol and Ron Artest in hopes of getting into the Top 10 in this draft. Here's the link: http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/nba/story/_/id/8103436/sources-los-angeles-lakers-want-established-player-top-10-pick-pau-gasol
Casey (Kentucky)
Do the Heat add a shooter? Perhaps Doron Lamb?
Chad Ford (2:42 PM)
Could be. LIke him. Jeff Taylor another option. Draymond Green (my draft sleeper) too.
Spike (Front row at MSG)
What about the knicks?
Chad Ford (2:44 PM)
What about them? They have the 48th pick. I have them taking Marquette's Jae Crowder. Would be a nice pick for them. Tough kid who plays defense and rebounds. Of, and he's a 6-5 power forward.
Ryan (Toledo)
Congrats on crushing Simmons
Chad Ford (2:46 PM)
Appreciate that. Now it's time to crush the draft. Look for Mock Draft 10.0 tomorrow plus tons of live coverage all day. Gotta run. Have a great draft day tomorrow!
