peter (lake forest,Illinois)
do you see the rangers finishing 1st in the AL west, or the angels coming from behind.
Sean Adams (12:06 PM)
Way to start off the chat with a softball. I think the Rangers win the west and this is a year when I see the Rangers finally getting over the hump and winning the series. Couldn't happen to a better group of people and owners.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
What is the Only way that the Texas Longhorns play to win a National Champion in College Football with Players Heading to the NFL?
Sean Adams (12:11 PM)
If I understand your question my answer is that you don't find anyone that wins a national championship without having a good amount of NFL caliber players. I still believe in the old axiom that the coach with the best players on his sideline wins 80% of the time. In the current climate of college football that means NFL players. See LSU, Alabama, Florida, USC, Texas, Oklahoma, well everyone...
Scott (Boston, MA)
What are the plans for recruiting a DE with Daeshon Hall leaving? Do the Horn's go the Juco route or is there any chance they offer Mike Mitchell and hope he grows into a DE?
Sean Adams (12:16 PM)
I don't think the DE position is in as dire straights as some folks do. With that said, I would warm up the JUCO avenues in case Jeffcoat has a fantastic year and decide to take his talents to the NFL. If he leaves early, they don't need a guy that can grow into the position, they need a guy that can play. Again, getting JUCO kids is about filling a need more than making it a part of the recruiting equation.
Darvis (Austin, TX)
Why is everyone forgetting about Joe Bergeron and only talking about Brown and Gray?
Sean Adams (12:21 PM)
It's fairly easy to talk about the other guys because they were both arguably the top ranked RB in their classes. Bergeron will be there when the time comes. Just think back to last year when Brown and Bergeron got hurt and they needed to have Hills step up. He did and he will play spot duty this year. Don't you worry one bit about Bergeron. People might put him in a box but he'll bust out.
Sean Adams (12:28 PM)
I am still going with 9 - 3 even though I can't tell you how they will get there. TCU, WVU, Oklahoma and Kansas State will be push games. They will be favored in every other game and probably two of those. QB play, QB play, QB play...
Darvis (Austin, TX)
So I keep hearing about USC, LSU and Alabama but have the issues been fixed in the LSU lockerroom that caused the meltdown in the National Championship game?
Sean Adams (12:31 PM)
Through all of the folks that I talked to it seems to have worked itself out and will continue to do so. Some of the happenings were based around the QB position and obviously, that is in stable hands now and better, one set of hands in Mettenberger.
Darvis (Austin, TX)
Hoke is doing big thing at Michigan but is Shoelace an NFL quarterback?
Sean Adams (12:32 PM)
No and don't ever ask that question again. He is a great college QB but if I were a GM I would not draft him.
Jason Worthen (Tucson, AZ)
Do guys like you that think you know everything read preseason magazines? If so which ones?
Sean Adams (12:37 PM)
Come on Jason, I don't think I know everything. Just most things about stuff that matters. The truth of the matter is that I love college football so much I buy everyone on the shelf and it is what helps me get through the dog days of summer. Stuff like Phil Steele becomes a great reference point throughout the course of the year. I'm not very smart so I read a lot, look at a lot of games and talk to a lot of home market folks to form my opinions.
Jason Worthen (Tucson, AZ)
How good will Rich Rod do at Arizona? We're due for a run aren't we?
Sean Adams (12:39 PM)
I think Rich Rod will be successful and successful early. If they don't hit a bowl this year, they will in year two and then they'll be off and running. I don't know if they'll ever play enough defense or have the defensive weapons to combat what USC does, what Washington is doing and what Oregon tries to do.
Kiko (Austin, TX)
I heard Clay Travis on your show yesterday and were you as amazed as I was when he said Texas could go 6 - 6?
Sean Adams (12:42 PM)
Yes, I was surprised. I will eat this laptop that I'm doing this chat on if Texas goes 6 - 6. Somne people just refuse to like Texas and some of the other enviable schools. In fact, I bet I could not find one person on this planet that would bet me anything that Texas would finish .500. Emotion is seperate from logic sometimes.
Corey Matter (Colorado)
What do I need to know about this Conner Wood kid that transfered from Texas to CU and is supposed to be our starting QB this year?
Sean Adams (12:43 PM)
He is a big time talent. He just needs to have a command of the offense and process informaton quickly. The Pac 12 might be the perfect conference for him though.
Is it fair to say that Texas could have the best CB and DE duo in the country? That's insane to think about! How can a team pass the ball if they have no time throw it, then they have no one open to throw it to
Sean Adams (12:46 PM)
CB are the best in the conference and one of the best in the country and the DE's are the best in the country. I actually like the DT rotation too and the safeties are going to be nothing to laugh at. Throw in Jordan Hicks who I think is going to be a star at LB and you have a defense that is silly talented. Couple that with Diaz and his attacking schemes. They havce a shot to be really good.
Sean, how long do you see the 4-team playoff being in place before the whole system is tweaked to include more teams vying for the crystal football? Love the radio show, FYI.
Sean Adams (12:53 PM)
The good thing about this is that it is a 12 year contract that they can amend if they want. I fully expect it to move after this contract to add up to four more teams although you will have a large group of folks that will fight that. Thanks for listening to the show.
Odds RSJ recommitts at the opening??
Sean Adams (12:54 PM)
Long would be an understatment but guess what, I'm wrong sometimes.
Travis C. (Lake Highlands)
When does Aggie decommit season start? They're not going to hold onto this really good class, are they?
Sean Adams (12:56 PM)
I don't know if it is a season but I do expect ATM to struggle with their new coach, new OC, new DC, new conference, lack of defensive depth, etc. If that offense was starting new in a different conference with less impactful defenses, I'd feel better about their team a whole. Sumlin will have to work overtime to keep the commits with the Aggies if the season spins towards .500.
Tony (Richmond, CA)
Wow! How do you really feel about Denard Robinson? :)
Sean Adams (12:59 PM)
I like Denard. A lot. Don't think he is an NFL QB. I like Eric Crouch too. Tommy Frazier is one of my top two college players ever (with VY). That doesn't mean great NFL QB's.
Ez 28 (Davis,CA)
Do you think a good season will help sway recruits the Longhorns way?
Sean Adams (1:00 PM)
I think Texas will play better than last year and have a better record so yes.
Ez 28 (Davis,CA)
Prevot listed his Top 6 at the Opening yesterday. Texas wasn't there. Big deal?
Sean Adams (1:02 PM)
Yes it's a big deal to me. We are talking about six. I mean six. Not 2, not 3, not 4 but six. But it's Mack Brown and Texas so don't write them off.
Lance (Dallas, TX)
Is the Big 12 going to expand and should they?
Sean Adams (1:04 PM)
Only if it is someone with a national name and can pull their weight. Forget about Louisville and any more TCU's. Notre Dame, Florida State, etc. I don't even know if Clemson would be enough in this new format.
Do you think one of the QB's will stand out and win the job or will it be a platoon like last season?
Sean Adams (1:05 PM)
David Ash will be the QB.
Derrin (Plano, TX)
Speaking of Washington, how impressed were you with the one day haul of recruits they locked up last week in Seattle? Tosh Lupoi seems to be as advertised. I don't recall a group of recruits all signing on like that at one time. Has it happened recently?
Sean Adams (1:07 PM)
He was great at Cal and will be just as great if not better at Washington. The Huskies have to keep their home state talent at home and grab kids from CA. Coach Sark will get 25 good kids per year. They will be good and my rainy family in the NW can't wait.
Drew Thompson (Austin, TX)
Sean, do you see CFB players eventually getting paid due to the mind-blowing revenue brought in by the new playoff system?
Sean Adams (1:08 PM)
I would just like to see them get the full cost of going to school. That and require real majors and for the education piece would be enough for me.
Sean Adams (1:09 PM)
Thanks for all of the great questions. Time to get ready for the Adams Theory streaming at espnaustin.com.
