Matt is here!
Kris (CO)
Best part about the USC-ND rivalry?
Matt Leinart (3:01 PM)
The competitive nature of the rivalry. The games we had. My senior year it came down to the last second. It has a lot of tradition so to be a part of it was pretty cool.
Dan (Washington, DC)
Thanks for all the memories at USC, Matt! With some of the best players in the nation on both sides of the ball (Barkley, Woods, McDonald), do you think the Trojans have a good shot at the national title this year?
Matt Leinart (3:01 PM)
Yes, no doubt! I think it's definitely a year where we're going to be a contender. As long as they stay focused, there's no reason why we can't be in that title game.
Eric (Jurado)
How does it feel being back in CA
Matt Leinart (3:02 PM)
It feels great. It's so nice to be close to home, to be on a team that I grew up watching. To be back with Carson Palmer. It feels good. It's a great fit for me.
Wes (LA)
Having been on all of those prolific offenses at USC, have you seen anything like that at the pro level that would compare?
Matt Leinart (3:03 PM)
Oh yeah, there are some pretty unbelievable offenses in the NFL. You look at what the Packers have done. The Patriots. Even that Houston offense. But at the college level, our offense was pretty explosive and I haven't seen one at that level that was so balanced and could do both.
Kevin (Texas)
How good did it feel to never lose to Notre Dame during your time at USC?
Matt Leinart (3:03 PM)
We actually lost to them my freshman year. But in the years that I played, it felt good to never lose to them or UCLA.
Paul (Denver)
When you have teammates join you in the NFL that played at Notre Dame, do you rib them about how you never lost to them in college?
Matt Leinart (3:05 PM)
Yeah, there's always some fun with good natured talk back and forth. Every team I've been on, every year with the teams I've played with. I can't remember the last Notre Dame guy I was with, but definitely there is always some razing going on there.
Steve (NYC)
do you still play video gameS? Ever get old seeing yourself?
Matt Leinart (3:05 PM)
I don't play much any more, but as soon as my son gets older, I'll play. It's still cool to hear people say they used me or traded for me. Growing up you play and then to be in one, it's pretty cool.
Robert McCuller (Texas)
UT fan here, what was it like playing in that amazing national championship game against the mighty longhorns?
Matt Leinart (3:07 PM)
The greatest college game ever played, I believe. We didn't come out with the victory, but looking back, to be a part of that was pretty special. To have a chance at three straight titles was special. It was great for college football. It hurts looking back to see we lost, but the overall experience was amazing.
Jake (Davis,ca)
best thing about being a Raider?!
Matt Leinart (3:07 PM)
Just being a part of a great organization, tradition. The Silver and Black. I love my new teammates. It's a great feeling to be a part of that team and organization.
Peyton (Denver, CO)
You have been behind a lot of good quarterbacks through the years and through the teams. Who was the best at getting prepared for a game?
Matt Leinart (3:08 PM)
In the pros, how Kurt Warner prepared was pretty special. He taught me a lot in my four years with him how to prepare. He stands out in my mind.
LeAnne (Washington)
Matt, do you play fantasy football? How did your team do last year?
Matt Leinart (3:09 PM)
No, I don't play.
mark (sacramento)
Hey Matt, welcome to RaiderNation, my question is about the Wr's on the roster, do you think we have who we need or isa veteran TE or WR needed?
Matt Leinart (3:09 PM)
We have a really young team on that side of the ball, extremely explosive and great weapons. The guys worked hard this summer and they expect a lot of great things from our offense.
Craig (Eugene)
Hey Matt! I know taking us apart up here in Duckland was fun..Does the Pro game compare to the time you had while at SC? Is it ALL work and no play, or you having fun?
Matt Leinart (3:11 PM)
Football sometimes you forget because of the business part of it to have fun. But all in all we get to play a game we love. There is a lot more to it with the business side of it, there is the job security and all of that that's different than college. But I love football. It's the best sport in the world.
Jeff (RI)
how was the week leading up to Notre Dame?
Matt Leinart (3:11 PM)
There was always a little extra motivation and hustle. Notre Dame, just because there was always stuff going back and forth. It just added a little more fuel to the fire.
Mario M. NORWALK, CA [via mobile]
What college team u hated the most?
Matt Leinart (3:12 PM)
I think we hated UCLA more than Notre Dame, the crosstown rivalry. Notre Dame was a bigger rivalry because it went back so many years. For me, whatever team we played we played, but it gave us more focus.
Matt (Richmond, VA)
What are you working on to improve for this upcoming season?
Matt Leinart (3:13 PM)
The biggest thing this year was getting healthy, coming off my injury last year. I'm always working on my game, my feet getting the ball out faster. I'm fortunate that I'm in an offense I was in the last two years. Just continue to work on my feet. Continue to prepare and study the plays.
Matt Leinart (3:14 PM)
Thanks to all of my fans for supporting me throughout the years. There have been some tough years. My fans keep me going. I want to say thank you and I appreciate it. I look forward to this season.
