Sean Adams (12:01 PM)
Welcome to this week's chat. Let's do this.
Caleb Pettis (Indianapolis, IN)
How do you expect the Off&Def to look under year 2 of both coordinators O
Sean Adams (12:08 PM)
I think both of them will be good and much better than 2011, especially the offense. Trying to install an offense or defense is very tough and at the level of play that Texas is a part of, it takes some soakage before it takes hold. You will be shocked at how much better and more in tune with everything both sides of the ball are.
Stephen (Houston)
Sean, Who is the fastest Longhorn on offense & defense? Biggest athletic freak?
Sean Adams (12:12 PM)
The fastest Longhorn on offense is either DJ Monroe or Daje Johnson. On defense I would probably say Sherroid Evans. Athletic freak, Dimarco Cobbs maybe... All of them...
ohorns (Omaha)
Just how HUGE of a mistake do you think Mack is making not naming Ash as our QB? Don't you think the Offense would be more confident if Mack and Harsin were? I think its great to have a ready backup, but this 2 QB system just does NOT work!
Sean Adams (12:18 PM)
I don't know if HUGE is the word. Would most of us prefer a quarterback decision? Sure. I truly think Brown and Harsin want the QB to take the job instead of being given the job. He has to win the lockerroom, win the players and win the staff. If he can do that, Texas will be better off in the longrun. It has to be scary for Longhorn fans though to see Fr QB's and rFr QB's chosen at Oklahoma State and ATM while they are still in a battle. My only answer to that is that the Texas QB will be better than both.
DarkJ (North Richland Hills)
Put your divining hat on for a moment. Would you please lay out the next four years at Quarterback for Texas, i.e. starters and backups? And remember, it usually doesn't go along with the obvious.
Sean Adams (12:25 PM)
Ash will go for the next few years and the interesting thing will be what happens between Brewer, Overstreet and Swoopes. That's too hard to lay out.
Kevin (Texas)
Who has been the biggest standout so far in camp on both sides of the ball? Also what has been the biggest surprise in your eyes from camp so far?
Sean Adams (12:28 PM)
Brandon Moore is a standout among standouts on defense. Not to slight anyone else. On offense I'll go with Brandon Hawkins and Malcolm Brown. Brown is faster than he was a year ago and Hawkins achors the OL now.
Tony (Richmond, CA)
Do you expect Jordan Hicks to have a breakout year in 2012? Or will Steve Edmond emerge as the star among the UT linebackers?
Sean Adams (12:38 PM)
I think Edmond will have a breakout year but I think Hicks is a star. I expect bot to be good but Hicks is going to be a stud and he is a great kid to boot.
Derrin (Plano, TX)
Does Mike Davis live up to hype this season and give Texas the explosive threat on the outside along with Goodwin to help prevent teams from loading up the box?
Sean Adams (12:43 PM)
One I don't think its hype. I think he had a tough year for a number of reasons and I think he turns it around and turns it around big.
Rick (Waco, TX)
Jalen Overstreet do you see him playing any this year or will he redshirt? Brewer is looking like a definite redshirt. Any news on some of the big time recruits still out there that Texas is going after for 2013?
Sean Adams (12:46 PM)
I think he can be a guy that gets some playing time this year. If they had a package for Ash last year, seems to think they would have to have one for Overstreet.
John (Austin)
Are Mack and Harsin on the same page? I get the sense that Harsin would like to be more like the Boise St he's used to and Mack has said over and over he wants to be like SEC teams. They're kind of an odd fit together in my opinion.
Sean Adams (12:55 PM)
I think they are on the same page. Brown and Harsin are not different than any other head coach and coordinator. These guys have egos and they have time spent building a career. And let's be honest they are right. They got to where they are for a reason. Now they just have to figure out how to meld their opinions together for the good of Texas. Lastly, Harsin has to know that he can run his offense without opinion as soon as he is a head coach
Mack (Austin, TX)
I am tired of hearing the Aggies say they will play Texas anytime anywhere, so why dont we just tell them that we will play them every year on thanksgiving in Austin and see what they say?
Sean Adams (12:59 PM)
Well one, the Aggies would never go for it. I'm not so sure that the Aggies want to play as much as they say they do. That would be another really hard game on their SEC west schedule. They will play again, we just don't know when.
Harrison (New York)
I seem to have the Longhorns ending the year 10-2 and and going to a BCS bowl, (I don't think they'll win there however). Does that seem anywhere near realistic?
Sean Adams (1:02 PM)
I have predicted 9 - 3 to 10 - 2 depending on the day since the spring. Texas is a huge draw and depending on who they play I wouldn't write off the Longhorns in a BCS game. They defense will be great, special teams will be special and the offense should be clicking by then and give Harsin a month to prepare. I'm not saying it will happen but in today's parity climate, I won't doubt it from happening either.
o2bm3 (Austin)
What is the deal with DJ Monroe? Has he been in the coaches' doghouse since the NC game vs. 'Bama? Why doesn't that guy get more touches?
Sean Adams (1:07 PM)
Your guess is as good as mine. He is good and he is talented. Here's what I know, football is honest. The most honest sport on the planet. If you can produce you get to play. No kid stays in the doghouse for that long. I don't know what that reason is but there is a reason Monroe does not get more carries.
Aubrey (Houston)
Who is the best RB on this team in 2013?
Sean Adams (1:13 PM)
Man I have no idea. I know where you are going with this. I love Gray but I have to see him put it in the books before I hand the job over to him.
Sean Adams (1:15 PM)
That's it for this week. 15 days until Wyoming comes to down. See you guys next week.
