Started listening to the Big Show on the stream, good stuff. Watching Oregon run wild last night only made me dream about what could be. I mean if I look at this roster, even though they were suppose to be moving towards the power game, they seem to have guys that would do well, maybe even better in the spread. Daje, Dj, J. Gray, even Ash has shown his ability to run (just hold on to that ball young man) and he is our offense pretty much for better or worse, with MB being hurt. I guess my question is, do you see Mack allowing Harsin to open things up a bit? I think it's not just the win, but the way you win that will maybe ease the fan base...
Sean Adams (12:08 PM)
The easy part to your answer is that after a blowout loss like that, everything usually opens up. I don't believe that they will move to a true spread, but you might see more risk taken. I believe they came into the season thinking that they wouldn't have to take too many risks, because they could lean on their running game and defense. With Malcolm Brown out and the defense not living up to expectations, more will be on the offense to get it done. They will open things up some.
Sean, After Saturday's debacle, what do you think Mack Brown is saying to the troops for this weekend's game against Baylor?
Sean Adams (12:13 PM)
"You cannot make the game against Oklahoma right, but you can get yourself back on the right track." That's the rallying cry that every coach has after a game like that. The defense will have a chance to show and prove against a really skilled offense. The offense will be able to force their will on a defense that has not been great.
Chris (San Antonio)
If Texas loses to Baylor giving up say 50+ points, will Diaz be fired immediately? After the season?
Sean Adams (12:18 PM)
That is a hard one to answer. One, I don't think they will give up 50. Two, I don't see Mack Brown making a change during the season. Three, who do you get to manage the defense? Akina was a DC for one year and that did not work out so well.
Chris (San antonio)
Do you think Texas would have beaten WVU with Malcolm Brown and Jordan Hicks in the lineup?
Sean Adams (12:21 PM)
The easy answer is yes, but the fact that it is easy taints the answer. They would have played better, and in a game as close as it was, that might have been enough to get one of those last stops.
Chioke Hassan (Baltimore, Md)
Dear Sean, what big names for the Longhorns could be big in next year's draft?
Gary (The Woodlands, TX)
Sean, great work on LHN yesterday! Loved the segment on being nervous or panicked regarding the state of the team. With that said, did you notice any difference in the defensive preparation this week to help tame the tackling problems?
Sean Adams (12:34 PM)
They had to start tackling. Every Texas fan will ask why they started tackling at week 6, and your guess is as good as mine. How much can they improve in a couple of days of practice in order to be ready for Baylor is the question. They were able to tackle last year, so I think they can get it back. But don't bank on the tackling issues being gone. They will still miss tackles.
David (Eastland, TX)
Damn, who would want to burn down Big Tex?
Sean Adams (12:38 PM)
I just did the pregame show for the Texas vs. Oklahoma close to the base of Big Tex. It's iconic at the fair and at the Red River Rivalry. I hope it is not arson.
Lacey (Plano, TX)
The fans seem to be a lot more down this year. Why so much this year but not with the previous blowouts to OU?
Sean Adams (12:42 PM)
This blowout is different because it comes on the heels of 5-7 and 8-5. There is a different feel to it all because it's not wrapped around a 10-win season. People wonder if Mack Brown can get the program to the mountaintop, have it crash and then bring it back. Everyone is cautious.
Benson (Austin, TX)
Will the next coach at Texas be a defensive coach? Am I wasting my time thinking Texas will have a new coach in 2013?
Sean Adams (12:45 PM)
I don't know that you are wasting your time, but I do think Texas will be coached by Mack Brown in 2013. When it eventually happens, yes I believe the next coach will be a defensive coach.
Lauren (Des Moines)
I almost spent the cash to go to Texas/OU, will it be worth it for me to spend the cash to come to Austin to see TCU?
Sean Adams (12:50 PM)
It will be Thantksgiving in Austin. It will always be worth the cash. The football game should be pretty good as well. Texas is not as bad as they showed on Saturday. They are not as good as some thought they might be. Everybody assumed they would finish somewhere between 8-4 and 10-2, and I think they will finish somewhere in that window.
Cory (Atlanta, Ga)
What are the chances that Diggs mans up on Williams the whole game and challenges Florence to throw on Diggs? I feel like he has supplanted Byndom this year as the shutdown corner and could force Baylors other receivers to beat UT tomorrow.
Sean Adams (12:52 PM)
Diggs is the No. 1 corner on the team and he still plays with tremendous confidence. Byndom needs to do whatever he can to have early success so he can get his confidence back. I don't know that Diggs will be on Williams the whole game, but the lion's share of the time might be a good guess.
Sam (Washington, DC)
Hey Sean. Love your work. Just looking slightly ahead. What are the chances that if Mack brings Texas to a 9 or 10 win season this year that he decides to retire and Pete Carroll is canned in Seattle, and that Texas pursues him to take over? His laid back style would fit in Austin. Or has the Reggie Bush thing made him too toxic for Texas boosters?
Sean Adams (12:57 PM)
I still think Mack Brown wants to have a shot at the brass ring again in 2013 and 2014 with a team that could be very good. Pete Carroll is one of the surprises in the NFL with the Seahawks this year. I think he will still be there and I don't think Texas would take a look at him regardless. You're right though, his laid-back style would fit in Austin.
Derrin (Plano, TX)
Does a third straight loss to Baylor, especially if the Bears light up the scoreboard, warm up the seat under Mack Brown considerably? And remove the untouchable status many seem to have put around him.
Sean Adams (1:01 PM)
If they lose to Baylor, I think things could really get bad. This team is better than the 2010 team so I wouldn't forecast 5-7, but 7-5 would not be out of play. Most peeple would agree that 7-5 is not acceptable. It would make 2013 a "must" win season in my estimation.
GatorJoe (Gainesville, Fla.)
Do Horns fans miss Will Muschamp now?
Sean Adams (1:02 PM)
YES, regardless of what anyone tells you. Yes they miss him. His Florida team is a little over-ranked right now, but I bet they finish in the top 10.
Ez 28 (Davis, CA)
I don't like Bergeron as a true RB. Why can't Texas move him to a Millard role? A big utility back role.
Sean Adams (1:06 PM)
They could but I don't think they will. As long as Malcolm Brown is out, they need him at RB. They are essentially using him as a big utility back now.
Xavier Flores (Denver, CO)
Who are your top 5 prospects to fill job if Mack is fired?
Sean Adams (1:07 PM)
Don't have a list but Chip Kelly at Oregon, Dan Mullen at Mississippi State and Paul Rhoads at Iowa State would be on MY list.
So any word on why Mack chose to call out the offense rather than the defense last weekend? I have my frustrations with both, but it was a shock honestly.
Sean Adams (1:10 PM)
I have no idea. I believe in a sense the offense starting with the four three-and-outs caused him to think that was the start. The defense was not tired on those first few drives, though. He knows the offensive side of the ball better, too, so I think he tends to lean there.
Do you think we'll ever see Diaz try out the other linebackers?? I'm sick of watching Cobbs swallow up blocks every down. When is he gonna put in any of the other ones? Aaron Benson, Tevin Jackson ... anybody! Also, who should play safety next to Vacarro?
Sean Adams (1:15 PM)
They all have had problems getting off of blocks. It is one of the bigger problems with the defense right now. All of the safeties are having problems. Yes, I said all. While he is still playing at a honors level, Vacarro has missed his fair share of tackles as well.
Steve (The Woodlands, TX)
What are the odds that Mack Brown is the coach at Texas in 2013?
Sean Adams (1:17 PM)
I think the odds are very high that Mack Brown will be the coach in 2013. So high that I don't know if they can get higher. They have the talent (will have it) but don't have the mindset. That is actually most important.
Sean Adams (1:17 PM)
Thanks for all of the great questions, be back next week!
