Chat with Radi Nabulsi
Welcome to DawgNation! On Wednesday, reporter Radi Nabulsi stops by to chat about the state of Georgia football.
Nabulsi joined ESPN.com in 2011 after covering the University of Georgia for Rivals.com for the last four years and for the UGA Athletic Association since 1993. Nabulsi is a graduate of the University of Georgia's Grady College of Journalism and lives in Athens, Ga.

Jason (Atlanta, GA)
What's the latest on Jonathon Rumph and JaQuay Williams? Do you think UGA would take both of them?
Radi Nabulsi (11:49 AM)
I think Georgia leads for Rumph. The Bulldogs don't have a receiver his size and he really enjoyed his visit. As for Williams, if he told me a while back that he would have committed to Georgia had they offered earlier. But Georgia didn't offer early because of his grades. He didn't qualify and now Auburn is not as attractive. I think Georgia is in great shape for Williams and would take both.
Mr Keller (Acworth, GA)
With the stable of RBs that UGA has right now, how do you project suffcient playing time for them all?
Radi Nabulsi (11:53 AM)
Depends on what you mean by sufficient. Each back would love 20 carries a game. And right now there are only two backs getting any real consideration. Todd Gurley and Keith Marshall own the backfield. But with all the pass plays, there are only about 30 rushes per game. So it impossible to give each back the carries he wants. But reps at any position are won during the week in practice. If a back wants more carries, he has to earn them.
Out of our commitments right now, who do you think could be a big under the radar contributer next season?
Radi Nabulsi (11:57 AM)
Thinking about where Georgia loses players next year, it would have to be on defense, maybe in the secondary or at linebacker. My guesses for under the radar contributors would be ILB Reggie Carter and safety Shaq Fluker.
How do you see the fullback rotation playing out as Hall returns from injury? I'm no scout, but I've been much more impressed with Zander's play than Hall's--running, blocking, and catching out of the back field.
Radi Nabulsi (12:01 PM)
I think Hall will return to the starting role when Georgia needs blocking (like when facing Alabama). His blocking was sharp and he knows the offense really well. But they don't look to him to run or catch. If Georgia wants an offensive threat, Zander goes in. I am not saying he will get a lot of carries or receptions, just saying he is utilized more.
Any word on R. Foster? Do you think he will make a switch to UGA?
Radi Nabulsi (12:03 PM)
Kipp Adams spoke to him Sunday and we have another blog post on him in the coming days. I think right now it depends on what Auburn does with Chizik. Remember, he switched high schools when his coach at Troup was fired, so there is a precedent.
which of our commitments has the highest potential?
Radi Nabulsi (12:04 PM)
Now that is tough. But my early guess would be Tramel Terry.
David, lots of crying by some UGa players about the cut blocking, that's done by every team, they will see the next two Saturdays. Doesn't come across well by these guys. Ga will win the game but hope Ga South, that doesn't get the respect for what they accomplish in the north part of the state, performs. It's a good in-state game. Ga doing nothing wrong playing them.
Radi Nabulsi (12:06 PM)
I have yet to see a tear. The players were asked what they thought of it and they answered honestly. Don't mistake answering a question posed by the media for going out and whining in public about the triple option.
Admas has had visits to both Clemson and UGA with his mother the last few weeks, where do you think UGA stands with Adams now?
Radi Nabulsi (12:08 PM)
Well he is supposed to spend Friday night with Georgia offensive lineman commit Brandon Kublanow. I think that could have a big effect on his recruitment too. I like Georgia's chances. A lot.
Who are the next big names that we could see commit?
Radi Nabulsi (12:11 PM)
I assume you mean commit to Georgia. If not I will tag out to Jeremy Crabtree. But Georgia could see commits from Jonathan Rumph, Alvin Kamara and/or Ja'Quay Williams. Most of Georgia's other six targets are planning to wait until later. Like Signing Day
Jimmy Smith (Blairsville, GA)
How severe is Chase Vasser's injury? Seems like he's been out for a while. Also, how is Georgia looking with Raekwon McMillan the 2014 LB prospect? Thanks!
Radi Nabulsi (12:15 PM)
Chase is not back yet. I would not expect him back before next week. As for Raekwon McMillan, he has Ohio State as his leader with Georgia close behind. I think Georgia's success the last two years will help since he was well aware of the criticisms of Mark Richt. BTW, I hope you saw the video of McMillan that I retweeted yesterday.
john (Savannah )
If Kamara commits to Oregon/bama, do you still see GA bringing in two backs? Thanks.
Radi Nabulsi (12:19 PM)
Great question. The coaches told Kamara that they planned to take two running backs. Bryan McClendon is recruiting Ashton Shumpert pretty hard. So if Kamara goes to Oregon, you would think Georgia would increase its pursuit of Shumpert. My feeling is that Georgia would stay with just Turman and look for a big talent in 2014.
Brance (Macon ga)
You see these guys up there all the time LB Ramik do you see him being a bigger factor next yeah along with Jordan??
Radi Nabulsi (12:20 PM)
I think Ramik Wilson moves inside next year. That is my guess. He will get a lot of tackles once he does as the runners will be funneled to him just like Mike Gilliard.
Now that Aaron Murray has his graduate degree, but still has one year of football eligibility, is there any talk of him actually coming back for one more season?
Radi Nabulsi (12:23 PM)
There is a lot of talk but no resolution yet. I asked him last week if he was and he said that decision would be made after the season. He is a pure team guy and if he had not redshirted, I know he would have come back for his final year. But last summer he was talking as if this was his last year. So there is no way to tell what is going to happen.
Jon (Thomasville, Ga)
In your opinion, is Ray Drew progressing, or regressing? Since he is from my old school, Thomas Co. Central, I want to see him do well.
Radi Nabulsi (12:25 PM)
Absolutely progressing. He is improving each game, just like Garrison Smith. Drew is a 4-3 defensive end trying to play defensive tackle in a 3-4. That is taking some getting used to.
Chris. C (Villa Rica, Ga)
Do you think the staff cooled on recruiting Neslon, thus leading to him look elsewhere. Hypothetical speaking, would the staff his commitment for say...Langley?
Radi Nabulsi (12:28 PM)
It does appear that the staff wasn't recruiting him that hard but we can't get them to comment on it so we won;t know. Just from talking to Nelson and his coach Fred Zepeda, it seems that Oregon State and Texas Tech recruited him much harder. I don't think Georgia fans should worry to much about losing Kamara.
Josh (Cumming, Ga)
Is this "thunder and lightning" strategy going to become a staple for Georgia recruiting? Eg. Gurley and Marshall & Turmin and Kamara
Radi Nabulsi (12:31 PM)
It has worked for years in the SEC and at Georgia. Remember the three headed monster with Ware, Brown and Lumpkin? Ealey and King. Crowell and Malcome. Alabama and Auburn have made it work well too. So yes, I think it is here to stay.
Reuben Foster (Auburn, AL)
Make the call now. Will I be a UGA signee when it is all said and done?
Radi Nabulsi (12:33 PM)
Depends if that graphic artist can turn your AU tattoo into a Bulldog head.
Realistic chances of landing Tunsil now that Derek Henry has been blanketing him?
Radi Nabulsi (12:34 PM)
I think he is still 50-50 on Georgia and Alabama. I don;t think Henry will have that much influence on him. He may still pick Alabama, but the overriding factor will not be Henry.
What College football team has the biggest fan base in the country?
Radi Nabulsi (12:38 PM)
Biggest? Hmmm. I would think it is Notre Dame but my gut tells me it is Ohio State.
joe joe dancer (atlanta)
How badly was Richard Samuel's ability underused at UGA over his career? Was he really just overrated as a recruit or do you think the constant position changing never game him a chance to grasp anything position really well?
Radi Nabulsi (12:41 PM)
The constant changes messed up Samuel's college career. He is a team guy and has not complained about all the switching, but had he come in and played linebacker from year one, I think he would have been very successful. But Georgia was thin at running back, then later and linebacker and then again at running back.
Jon Gruden (Tampa)
Do you see Brice Ramsey coming in and statring in front of Mason?
Radi Nabulsi (12:44 PM)
No. Ramsey is talented but there is a ton of offense to learn. Mason has been running the offense for a few years and he didn't come from a run first offense like they run at Camden County. Even Aaron Murray redshirted his freshman year. Of course he was injured. But I still don't see Mason taking a back seat to Ramsey next year.
Since we're so bottled up at QB, do you see Faton moving to another position? Say TE or FB?
Radi Nabulsi (12:44 PM)
No. He is set on playing quarterback.
Tide726 (Washington, DC)
Looking at the collision btwn BAMA and UGA for the SEC Title, who do you give the upper hand?
Radi Nabulsi (12:46 PM)
Alabama. But the game plan on how beat the Tide has been on display the last two weeks so Georgia has a very good chance of winning. But you asked about upper hand. Alabama's 85 scholarship guys to Georgia's 69 could be it.
I know it can't hurt, but will the loss of Steven Nelson have any real effect on UGA's chances of turning Brendan Langley?
Radi Nabulsi (12:49 PM)
Yes. Langley is very aware of the depth chart. If Georgia can also convince him that J.J. Green is an offensive player and not a cornerback like he is listed, then that will help too. He has visited for three of Georgia's five home games. He has been to South Carolina once.
Justin (Acworth, GA)
Oh and Radi you are by far my favorite!
Radi Nabulsi (12:50 PM)
Well thanks. You are too kind.
Allen (Lake Sinclair)
David,If the Dawgs could pull off an upset in Atlanta against the Tide, is there any hope at all for a BCS Championship game for UGA???
Radi Nabulsi (12:55 PM)
Absolutely. Kansas State still has Texas. Oregon has Oregon State and Stanford, both of which are ranked and talented. Notre Dame has USC. My point is that if one or more of those teams loses then there is a chance. Well, two of them need to lose. I just don't see Georgia jumping any of the undefeated teams, despite whether they are worthy or not.
Do the Dawgs have a shot with the CB from Florida Mackensie Alexander? I have heard rumors of interest picking up on both sides.
Radi Nabulsi (12:56 PM)
They went to see him on Friday but I don't think they have a shot.
When are Rumph and JaQuay Williams set to decide?
Radi Nabulsi (12:57 PM)
Rumph says he will decide before Thanksgiving. Williams is still up in the air, but I would suspect before Christmas.
Do we have any potenetial targets that are set to decide at any of the All American Games?
Radi Nabulsi (12:58 PM)
I don't think so. But guys change their mind all the time, especially when they arrive on-site.
With all the noise lately about the Dawgs recruiting the rb position, what position do you think they are recruiting the hardest besides rb?
Radi Nabulsi (1:01 PM)
Offensive line: Laremy Tunsil and Tyrone Crowder.Wide receivers: Ja'Quay Williams and Jonathan Rumph
Are there any other CBs we are looking at besides Riyahd Jones and Brendan Langley?
Radi Nabulsi (1:02 PM)
They are looking at a lot of options but so far no name has come to the forefront.
If Chizik is fired, who can UGA pick up outside of Foster?
Radi Nabulsi (1:04 PM)
He is the only player that has a Georgia offer on the Auburn commitment list if I am not mistaken.
How much inside information are you and Kipp holding that you arent allowed to share with anyone?
Radi Nabulsi (1:06 PM)
More than we can keep track of. But we do hardest to get it on the record so that we can share it with you. No silly war rooms of half-truths and un-sourced gossip.
Do you think Riyhad Jones is just as good or better than Steven Nelson?
Radi Nabulsi (1:07 PM)
I asked Kipp and he said they were different players. Jones is more physical and Nelson is more of a return guy.
where do you think rumph will commit to?
Radi Nabulsi (1:08 PM)
Georgia is my guess.
If Ole Miss doen't win out or make it to a bowl game, will that hurt recruiting nkemdiche
Radi Nabulsi (1:09 PM)
Not at all. He is not worried about that. Robert Nkemdiche knows he is going to the NFL no matter where he goes. He is close to his brother and that is the appeal of Ole Miss.
How soon (score margin wise) do you pull your starters to reduce injury risk the next two weeks?
Radi Nabulsi (1:10 PM)
If Georgia was up, I would pull them once you had a three score margin. But that is just me. Todd Grantham disagrees.
Is Riyahd Jones any good? Will he get/do you think he should get an offer?
Radi Nabulsi (1:13 PM)
He is and I think he should but the coaches do not take my opinion into account. If they did, Ace Sanders of South Carolina would have been offered.
Gary (Powder Springs)
Did Hunter Henrey decommit from Arkansas?
Radi Nabulsi (1:14 PM)
No, but he says his visit to Alabama opened his eyes. He might also take a visit to Georgia.
Have Marquez North or Tyrone Crowder ever visited UGA? Keep hearing their names in the mix but never see anything from them that confirms any interest in UGA.
Radi Nabulsi (1:18 PM)
Crowder visited over the summer for a half day before going to Auburn. He liked what he saw in that short amount of time and put UGA in his top group. North camped at Georgia once.
Who's the best 2nd string player on the Georgia roster?
Radi Nabulsi (1:18 PM)
Well I guess technically it would be Keith Marshall.
Radi Nabulsi (1:21 PM)
Folks, I have to run. Sorry I could not get to all the questions. Please feel free to stop by The Pound at DawgNation where I spend the majority of my days and hit us up there. Thanks!
