Chat with Seth Mitchell
Welcome to SportsNation! On Wednesday, we're going inside the boxing ring when heavyweight Seth Mitchell stops by to chat about his bout this weekend on the undercard of the Antonio DeMarco-Adrien Broner main event.
Mitchell (25-0-1, 19 KO) takes on Johnathon Banks (28-1-1, 18 KO) at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J. Saturday at 10 p.m. ET/PT on HBO's World Championship Boxing.
Mitchell was a star linebacker at Michigan State, before a knee injury ended his football career. He turned to boxing and has risen through the ranks. Following a draw in his third professional career, the Maryland native has won 18 of his last 23 fights via KO, including his last 10.
Send your questions now and join Mitchell Wednesday at 2 p.m. ET!

Seth is here!
How long was training camp?
Seth Mitchell (2:02 PM)
Of course it got cut on and off, but I got a good seven weeks for this camp, even though I've been in the gym since the latter part of April and we tapered off once the fight got postponed.
What do you think of fighting in Atlantic City?
Seth Mitchell (2:02 PM)
I enjoy fighting here. It's my second time fighting here. It's like a home away from home. The crowd was great. I enjoy fighting in Atlantic City. It's a home away from home.
Waht's the worst part about tarinig camp?
Seth Mitchell (2:03 PM)
We have a bag drill, where depending on where I'm at in training, we'll go 30 minutes, 50 minutes maybe even an hour straight. It's something I don't like doing, but I like doing, if you get what I mean. It's very strenuous on the body, but it gives the confidence knowing I can go that long.
How often are you able to get back to MSU?
Seth Mitchell (2:04 PM)
Not quite that often. I believe I've only been back 3-4 times since I graduated in '05. It's probably partly due to my training. My first year of fighting, I fought 9 times. Plus with the family, it's hard to get back with my kids. But I stay in contact all of the time via the phone.
Seth Mitchell (2:04 PM)
I did go back last year to the Michigan game and gave the boys a pep talk. That was pretty cool.
what do you think of the main event with DeMarco and Broner?
Seth Mitchell (2:05 PM)
I think it's a good fight, but I think Broner's going to shine. He's too fast. I think he will put on a clinic tomorrow night.
With all of the destruction in the NJ area, are you glad you'll be able to give people a show to help them take their minds off of things for a little while on Saturday night?
Seth Mitchell (2:06 PM)
Yes. That's what I was thinking about. I was hoping that the fight didn't get canceled. I was hoping to fight, but at the same time, sports are therapeutic for a lot of people. To be able to perform for people. Sports can bring people together and if I can be a part of it, I'm happy to.
Hey Seth I'm excited to be at your fight this weekend (I have actually watched your last three). Do you plan on going inside from the beginning? In your last fight vs. Witherspoon, you ran into trouble when the fight was to the outside, and then you eventually wore down his body by in-fighting. Will you go right inside on Banks, or try to establish the jab?
Seth Mitchell (2:07 PM)
I plan on doing whatever I have to do to win the fight. I always try to work behind my jab. That's my gameplan, to apply pressure without being reckless. If I have to go to another gameplan, we'll be able to do that.
Marvin,M (San Antonio,Tx)
Hi,Mayhem how close are you to being ready to fight for the Championship? and do you have what it takes to upset the Klitschko brothers? good luck in your next fight Seth.
Seth Mitchell (2:08 PM)
Including this fight, 3-4 more fights. At the end of 2013, I think I'll be ready for my opportunity.
Seth Mitchell (2:09 PM)
I believe I have the frame, the stature, good power in both hands, the heart and will. But at the same time you have to go out there and do it. I respect them. But I believe when I get my opportunity, it's going to be tough, but I beileve I have the capability to pull off the upset and get the win. Once that time comes, I think we'll put together the gameplan to get the win. Win lose or draw, I'm going there to fight. I won't be scared. And I do believe I can win.
terri (visalia ca)
Who would you like to fight the most, past or present boxer
Seth Mitchell (2:10 PM)
I'm in this business to become the heavyweight champion of the world, so it would have to be whichever era I was in, whoever has the belts, whoever brings in the most money, that's who I want to fight. I want to be heavyweight champion of the world and financially secure.
Has your knee injury affected your boxing career at all? Good luck this saturday.
Seth Mitchell (2:11 PM)
Surprisingly it hasn't. It's two totally different sports, even though I've competed highly in two sports. I don't have to worry about coming to abrupt stops. It doesn't bother me. I couldn't go out and play football right now. Other than putting some ice on the knee and taking some motrin. Playing football, I was always taking pain killers and needles to play. Not in boxing.
Slater (West by God Virginia)
I was really impressed with how well you held your composure and were able to recover in the Witherspoon fight. That being said did that expearience make you want to start more cautiously against Banks, or did it make your feel confident that you can handle coming straight ahead?
Seth Mitchell (2:13 PM)
I was glad I was able to recover, but it definitely allowed me to see my boxing game and to get more angles and work on my defense a little more. I'm an aggressive fighter, but there are a few things that we've tried to work on. Not change my style, but be more alert and cautious to what's going on. I won't abandon my style, I'm just an aggressive person.
Hey Seth, I've been to your last fight and will be there again on Saturday. You have a great skill set but America has seen alot of Heavyweights fall off the wagon due to out of the ring distractions that limited their careers. How do you remained focused and avoid distractions? Has it been an issue for you?
Seth Mitchell (2:15 PM)
It's just my personality. I'm a humble guy by nature. I don't have a big entourage. I'm all about my family. It's not about me. I have two children, my wife. I have people in my inner circle I'm looking out for. I'm very humble. If I continue to stay focused. All of the success I'm having, I understand it's a business. You could be on top one day and at the bottom the next. Here today, gone tomorrow. If you look at that, it will keep you humble.
Seth Mitchell (2:16 PM)
I just want to tell all of my fans I really appreciate my support. I know it's been a while, but I will definitely turn up on Saturday night. I can't wait to put on a show for you all. Follow me on Twitter: @SethMayhem48 and on Facebook: SethMitchell.
