More Bears coverage: Bears blog | Jurkovic bio
Jurko (1:01 PM)
Cutler looks like he's probably going to be out. Campbell looks like he will start. The Bears have a shot but it's going to have to be a 13-9 taffy pull.
Ciso,Berwyn [via mobile]
Do you think the Bears are going to handle to being with a Coutler better this time?
Jurko (1:02 PM)
I think they will handle ut but it's a tough test against the 49ers. You're not going against the AFC West. They will throw him into the lion's den against San Fran.
Chris (New Market, Iowa)
Is Jay Cutler the future of the Chicago Bears or have his injuries and turnovers forced the Bears to consider someone that can stay healthy and manage a football game?
Jurko (1:03 PM)
Still the future of the Bears. 13-2 in his last 15 starts, and has won 70 percent of his starts.
Scott (Chicago)
Jurko, it seemed the O-line help up Sinday night. Was this a fluke because of the weather or are they starting to come together?
Jurko (1:04 PM)
I think they got a lot of help from RB, the TE. The positive thing is they implemented some offensive theories and the line picked them up.
Roland (CPDB)
Kaepernick has been in the offense as a wildcat, Campbell has been a pro for years. Who do you give the advantage to?
Jurko (1:05 PM)
I give the advantage to the team with the better OL, and that team is the 49ers. I think our QB is better.
Brandon (Phoenix)
Do you think Evan Rodriguez takes over as our pass catching tight end?
Jurko (1:06 PM)
I would hope so but Lovie is a big supporter of Davis'. And he has been a big disappointment.
Chris (New Market, Iowa)
How much of the poor productivity of the offense falls on Lovie Smith?
Jurko (1:07 PM)
It only falls on him because he thought Tice could be an OC. His judgment of picking out coaches is questionable. I don't know if he knows what makes a good one.
Eric (Chicago)
Can Hester be pulled from punt returns? He seems hesitant. If he can't go straight ahead - it's over for him.
Jurko (1:07 PM)
I will not criticize Hester. My thoughts on him are well documented. I'm tired of beating up on the guy over and over.
C.W. (Chicago)
Sup Jurko? How much blame should be placed on Tice for the offensive struggles?
Jurko (1:08 PM)
I'd say about a third. A third on the QB and a third on the mediocre talent.
Matt (Colorado)
Would you agree that the Bears would be a more dominate team if they focused on running the ball instead of trying to show off Culter's arm?
Jurko (1:09 PM)
I would say no for the reason that your OL is bad. Specifically at the tackle positions. And Carimi is not a good run blocker.
Bryan (Rockford)
Assuming Alshon Jeffery returns this week, who moves to the slot? Hester or Bennett?
Jurko (1:09 PM)
Bennett to the slot and Hester to the fourth WR.
Brian (Bartlett)
How much credit should we give the OL for not allowing a sack on Sunday? In my opinion, I think it was the field conditions that helped slow down the Texans pass rush.
Jurko (1:10 PM)
Absolutely and the ability to absorb the game plan.
desk jockey (CDW)
Good kid, why did we sign McCown with Blanchard on the practice squad? It seems every year we draft a new rookie QB that we never plan to use. What gives?
Jurko (1:11 PM)
They are developing him. You need a vetweran backup behind Campbell not a rookie.
Jake (Cedar Falls IA)
Will Johnny Knox ever suit up for the Bears again, or is this it for him in Chicago?
Jurko (1:11 PM)
No. I think that was a really terrible injury he suffered.
Creacher (Columbus, Ohio)
Is it me, or does it feel like Peppers is having a very quiet year? What is contributing to it?
Jurko (1:12 PM)
I don't think he's 100 percent healthy and some of the impact he makes isn't easily noticeable.
Matt (Lincoln Park)
Who do you think will win the NFC North?
Jurko (1:13 PM)
Bears. I think they beat GB at Soldier Field and that will be the difference.
boby (zion)
Do you think mike martz was better than tice to this point?
Jurko (1:14 PM)
I think Martz knew more about offenses and though his plan was flawed he had a plan. I think Tice is still learning.
Rob (Naperville)
We used to be an effective screen team, is this another fault of Tice?
Jurko (1:14 PM)
No. With Marshall and Forte your only legitimate threats you're making defenses really clog up on Forte quickly so the screen game can't develop.
leftacl (Chi)
Jurk,I agree about Carimi and his run blocking...is moving him to the left side the answer?
Jurko (1:15 PM)
I don't know if there is an answer. Is he with his injury history ever going to be good. Unfortunately I know the answer. It is a resounding no.
Kevin B (retirement)
Robbie used to be solid, in fact that was his middle name.....he's now missed 3 kicks in 4 weeks, and can't blame field conditions for all of those. What's up with the Goulden foot these days?
Jurko (1:16 PM)
The Goulden foot is experiencing what we call a slump. He is no longer automatic. He is no longer good as gold. He is as good as copper.
Bryan (New Jersey)
Is Jay a Superbowl quarterback
Jurko (1:17 PM)
Yes. But he has to get there first and he has that talent.
Tom S. (Sacramento)
What up Jurk -- Remember when Matt Forte was one of the top total yards from scrimmage backs in the league? What happened to getting him the ball via the pass?
Jurko (1:18 PM)
People are starting to figure him out. How many passes has he dropped this year or made a half-hearted effort to reach? I think he's happy with his money.
Kellen Davis (in hiding)
Why does Lovie love me so much?
Jurko (1:20 PM)
Maybe because you're 6-7 and 260 pounds and he dreams of what you might be not what you are.
Ryan (Indianapolis)
How many poorly called games does tice get before the organization truely starts looking to hand the play calling riegns to someone else?
Jurko (1:20 PM)
I think if it doesn't improve in the second half of the year he will be an OL coach. They won't put up with this for long.
mario (eagle pass tex)
what can u tell us about shea mclellin?
Jurko (1:21 PM)
I think he has played fine. He's had a limited role. He's better suited to play with his hand not in the dirt than he is in the dirt.
Paul (Chicago)
so jeremy bates as off coor?
Jurko (1:22 PM)
I think ultimately he might be but it's not because he might be better. I just think he has an idea of what to do to make them more successful.
max konzelman (joliet )
jurko....when you went to EIU...was LaBamba's (burritos as big as your head ) there??....right behind Ike's...I graduated in 2002....magical place Charleston is...i also worked the window of the East Side Package Liquors also on Jackson...just North East of campus..go bears
Jurko (1:23 PM)
We used to go to Wrangler's for the Pike's club. Turkey and roast beef piled high on a bun with cheese and they had the best blueberry doughnuts any human has ever tasted.
Hefe (San Diego)
What do you think about the possibility of the NFL taking a page out of the NHL book regarding players lost during a game due to an illegal hit (Helmet to helmet, late etc.) The other team loses their starter at the same position for the rest of the game. That game was won by taking Jay out with a cheap shot IMHO.
Jurko (1:25 PM)
Here's why the NFL will hesitate on keeping players out for an extended period of time with concussions. First, the NFL helmet is superior to the NHL helmet. NFL owners would have to increase rosters to about 67 players to be able to withstand players lost to concussion. You would then have to raise the salary cap to accommodate all those extra players which would cost owners an addiitional $10 million let's say each. They will not be in favor of this.
Bryan (Rockford)
With your statements on McLellin, could he be a replacement for Urlacher and not the pass-rush specialist they want him to be?
Jurko (1:25 PM)
I think he can and I think he'd be a better pass rusher on a blitz than Urlacher. I also believe he has the speed to drop deep middle in the Tampa-2 defense.
Ryan (Indianapolis)
Jurko, I think Mario was asking about how Shea is feeling after the concussion and when he will be able to come back. Any word on this?
Jurko (1:27 PM)
What about Shea? It isn't fair that he has been forgotten in this whole deal. It happened in the first series of the game. But such is life in the NFL. If the QB goes to the restroom they want to know everything about it. If you're a DE they don't care.
rob (vernon hills)
Jurko why every year do we have to talk about the Soldier Field sod...I mean when is enough enough and the NFL forces them to put in the Fieldturf it happen EVERY YEAR!!
Jurko (1:28 PM)
I thought the Bears had an advantage in the sod but it looks like Foster didn't skip a beat. He had 95 yards on 14 rushes. After that he had 7 yards on 15 carries to finish with 102 yards.
Jurko (1:28 PM)
It's going to be a tough one for the Bears. I promise you this it doesn't look good. Talk to you next week.
