Stephania Bell (3:03 PM)
Good afternoon folks...couple new additions to IR already today. Let's get to work...
vic (kailua, hi)
What's the status of LeSean McCoy and when is he likely to return?
Stephania Bell (3:06 PM)
Vic: Well, I know it's warmer there than it is here in snowy CT. Lucky you. As for McCoy, not able to predict with concussions. I will say though that the Eagles have a very structured (phased) protocol and McCoy apparently is still in the early stages. Not that that grants a timeline but it hints at the notion that he has more hurdles to overcome to return.
With Brown out and Ahmad Bradshaw handle the load?
Stephania Bell (3:08 PM)
Zach: I think that's the plan. He looked good running this week. D Wilson will likely get some more action but don't think he threatens to cut into Bradshaw significantly. Giants did sign another RB today. Kregg Lumpkin.
Latest on J-Stew?
Stephania Bell (3:10 PM)
Marty: Ron RIvera said today it's a high ankle sprain. Opposite ankle from the one he injured in the preseason. No indication on timeline but clearly you're looking for replacement.
Chris (Cin City)
Any word on McFadden going forward?
Stephania Bell (3:11 PM)
Chris: His teammates think he plays this weekend per SF CHronicle report. He's been doing some individual running so I'm inclined to think there's some truth to the report. Of course, Weds is first big practice day so if he's out with team in practice, we'll feel a lot better.
robert weintraub (Amelia Island, Florida)
Pierre Garcon's foot -- Can he continue to be productive?
Stephania Bell (3:13 PM)
RObert: I think based on what he showed us this past week, he is certainly at a better point in terms of functionality than when he was trying to play through the injury in the early weeks. So yes, he CAN continue to be productive BUT the risk remains that it could flare up at any time. This is not 100% behind him. Certainly could be worth rolling the dice but just know that it could crop up again.
Whats Greg Jennings status? If he plays is he worth starting as a flex?
Stephania Bell (3:15 PM)
Malek: Am writing extensively about him today (shameless plug for blog which will post later). YES! I think he's going to surprise folks and be great out of the gate. He benefits from the down time with the fresh legs. Could still be the ramp up to "football" shape but he's been working on his conditioning and he should get a full week of practice this week so I don't see a huge drop there. He'd better not prove me wrong...
B.Tate ever be ready to resume backup duty for Houston?
Stephania Bell (3:16 PM)
Gene: Think he's lost that chance. Justin Forsett will be the primary backup. Kubiak says Tate will need to rotate in via special teams to work his way back. Obviously anything can happen but if he's taking up valuable space on your roster, you might want to yield that to someone else.
What is the deal with Forte? Do I need to start looking for a backup or does it seem like he will play this week?
Stephania Bell (3:20 PM)
Gerry: I'm guessing you won't get much from the Bears in advance so you need to have a backup plan. I'm seeing mixed reports about his expected availability. If we go on past experience, we will not get much help from Chicago and I could see this as a possible gtd. Even if injury is not severe, with Bush running as well as he has I would not be surprised if Forte sat for a week. He only missed one game earlier this year when the ankle seemed serious so that's a testament to his quick recovery.
Any word on Harvin? Do you think he at least makes it back for Weeks 15-16?
Stephania Bell (3:23 PM)
Shawn: They're being more cautious to start the week in Minnesota than they were last week. Maybe the fact he couldn't get into practice at all forced them to be more guarded. Without him doing anything in the running or agility department yet the projections are a bit random but he has been reportedly making progress as far as how the ankle feels. I think Week 15 is reasonable to expect and he could even return by next week. Just don't think this week looks great.
What's your thoughts on Big Ben playin Sunday, critical matchup and if it a pain tolerance haven't we seen Ben play through pain enough to know he'll be on the field.
Stephania Bell (3:25 PM)
Brandon: Not so much pain tolerance as function. Needs to be able to show he can throw effectively. Hardest throws given right side SC and 1st rib injury are across the body. Also short dink and dunk easier than downfield. While we've seen them limit the gameplan for him, they don't want to constrain it totally. Tomlin says they're prepping Batch with door open for Ben. You know he wants to play vs Ravens. Need to see what he can do as week progresses.
Not so Smiling (Miles Austin)
With Austin playing in the late game, my possible replacement was DeSean Jackson. Not anymore! Whats the latest on Austin's status?
Stephania Bell (3:27 PM)
Sorry not smiling. I was not smiling when Austin left me with a 0 in one of my leagues. He seemed to hint at likelihood he'd practice Weds but then again, could be being coy. Don't like the fact that it's seeping out that he's really been bothered by the hamstring all year. I'm not feeling great about him.
Is Antonio Brown a go this week and/or did he have any sort of setback after his workouts last week?
Stephania Bell (3:27 PM)
Shawn: Looks like Steelers expect to have him this week. Now it becomes interesting to know who's throwing to him.
How does it look for Vick and D Murray playing this week?
Stephania Bell (3:29 PM)
CJ: Sounds like Vick is closer. My only hesitation is that even when a player seems "close," the one thing that's holding him back can be a plateau, where the athlete essentially is in a holding pattern as far as recovery but not yet ready to return. Murray needs to practice, something we haven't seen and until he does, really nothing to add.
What are the odds the Jags shut down MJD? They keep pushing his return back. Thanks Stephania!
Stephania Bell (3:35 PM)
Dan: Mularkey actually specifically spoke to that and said they will not place him on IR. Told reporters they want to finish strong and think they can get him back for "a few games." The big test with all of these guys and their foot injuries comes once they start to increase their activity. It's a lot of rest- where there's nothing to report - then they start pushing off with running or twisting the foot to move laterally and that becomes the real test. Until he's done that and had no setbacks, very hard to say oh, yes 1-2 weeks. Guy can feel 1-2 weeks away and then be disappointed to learn foot not responding.
Piggy-backin' the MJD question...will Parmelee be okay for this weekend?
Stephania Bell (3:36 PM)
Bobby: Very questionable. Groin injury, tried to play through but was seriously hampered with it as game went on. May not know until very late in week.
Ricky Tap (Miami, FL)
Hello Stephania, ANy word on Gronkowski? how is his healing going, anything on progress or by when they can expect him back? do you think there is a possible week 14 or 15 return or is it to soon to conclude. Thanks
Stephania Bell (3:39 PM)
Ricky: I wish I could tell you but there's zero news on him. And there won't be. Around 4 weeks is the timeframe where I'll be very interested in what he's doing, if he's cleared (which would suggest there is enough healing the docs are comfortable with him potentially facing contact, etc). I think the soonest back is 4 weeks post-injury (would be Week 15 in terms of time), if all is healing well.
Will the Amazing Amendola be good to go ? He will never be Doubted again.
Stephania Bell (3:43 PM)
Nate: Let's be clear. He did play. But he had one catch (granted, for 38 yards). He's not fully healthy. In St.Louis Post-Dispatch Fisher sounded a little more optimistic than he did at this time last week about practice but he also said he wouldn't be healthy "for some time." Not sure how to interpret that translating into function but it makes me nervous.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
Is Giants RB Andre Brown Out for the Season due to the Injury that He Suffered Against the Packers?
Stephania Bell (3:44 PM)
Chris: Yes, for regular season anyway. He has a chance to return (designated for return) but not until late playoffs. Real playoffs.
Bob (Beaver Falls, PA)
As a concerned Fitzgerald owner, what are the chances of Kolb coming back from injury and starting this week vs. the Jets? Thanks.
Stephania Bell (3:44 PM)
Bob: Doesn't sound like that's remotely going to happen. Kolb still a ways away.
Not quite an injury question: but what do you hear about Titus Young coming back?
Stephania Bell (3:45 PM)
Ben: He didn't practice today...not sure of his status beyond that.
Is Adrian Peterson safe to go on Sunday?
Stephania Bell (3:47 PM)
Jason: Don't think this is a major issue. Not as major as the team bus. I expect he'll be in the lineup unless there's some sort of decline as the week progresses.
Brandon (Andrews AFB, MD)
Hi Stephania, what was up with Graham on Sunday? I read that he saw the most snaps out of all RBs, WRs, and TEs. Was something bother him or was it just a great game plan by the 49ers?
Stephania Bell (3:50 PM)
Brandon: Don't have a complete answer for you other than I don't think it's injury-related. He's already shown his return to form since the ankle injury earlier in the season. Think he's being well covered. Only six targets (and four receptions I believe). Brees has the advantage of being able to look to a lot of options.
What was your take on Hernandez on Thanksgiving? Limited production aside, did he appear to you to be moving around at close to 100%?
Stephania Bell (3:51 PM)
Ben: Hard to qualify at 100% but I thought he looked fairly agile. He hasn't been out there for a while and there's always an adjustment but there was one play in particular where he had a catch and had to adjust by changing direction while tracking the ball, a good test for the ankle. Liked seeing that. Feel pretty good about him going forward.
Stephania, thanks for the chats as always. Any new news on C Benson? worth a stash for the playoff matchups?
Stephania Bell (3:54 PM)
Sal: Thank you for joining. Benson was very optimistic a few weeks ago, not so much lately. Sounds like there is still a possibility he will have surgery. I'm hoping we get an indication later this week.
Matt (Hoosier Country)
What's the status of Denario Alexander?
Stephania Bell (3:56 PM)
Matt: Considering the injuries he's dealt with in the past, this sounds relatively minor (thigh contusion). That said, deep thigh bruises can make the leg very stiff, hard to run, etc. Stevie Johnson had one earlier this year but it cleared up enough within a week for him to be able to play just fine the following Sunday. Don't be surprised if Alexander misses a practice or two but as of now it doesn't seem like it will keep him out.
Stephania Bell (3:59 PM)
Wow...Mendenhall demoted to 3rd in Pittsburgh according to the Tribune-Review. THat means Dwyer is number one, Redman number two and Mendenhall three. My, my...
Is there any news on Vincent Brown?
Stephania Bell (4:01 PM)
RJ: Nothing since he had that good day running recently. No word yet on when he rejoins practice. Not sure there will be enough there to help out fantasy owners...
Stephania Bell (4:02 PM)
Thanks for coming to the chat today. WIshing you all good luck in this final stretch of fantasy football. Still plenty of moves to be made to try to get into those playoffs. See you here Friday at 11 am ET...
