KC Joyner (3:01 PM)
Good afternoon! Let's talk some playoff fantasy football!
I am in my semi-final game this week and I need to defend my championship title from last year. But I am stumped on who to start in my PPR league. Darren Sproles or The Law-Firm and Anquan Boldin or Josh Gordon? Thanks
KC Joyner (3:02 PM)
Congrats! Got Sproles rated slightly higher than BJGE on this week's start-sit charts. Boldin also rates slightly higher than Gordon.
I'm predicting a Bryce Brown rebound....over 15 points. I'm planning to start him across a few leagues over the likes of Moreno, R.Bush, R.Mathews, D.Alexander, Garcon, S.Smith....thoughts?
KC Joyner (3:03 PM)
Agree on the rebound - last week was an anomaly caused by the horrible state of the Bucs pass D. Not sure about starting him over DX & Garcon, but it's close enough that it's a toss-up.
Am I getting too cute starting Detroits defense over San Frans this week?
KC Joyner (3:05 PM)
SF's D is great but there isn't a D in the NFL that one would want to start on the road at NE in December the way the Patriots are playing right now. Detroit rates higher on the start-sit charts.
KC, Hi. Do I trust Dez or play it "safe" with Maclin tonight? Thank you.
KC Joyner (3:06 PM)
Really depends on the team situation. Maclin probably has a ceiling so if you can get by with his 6-8 points, start him. If you have to play for upside, take the risk that Dez can put up points with one hand.
Another one bites the dust! I'm the #1 team facing AJ Green, Brees and Graham against Tampa and I am worried. Need to tell me not to overthink. I have AP, Lynch and Spiller. Pretty silly to think about putting Dwyer, BBrown or Crabtree in for any of these, correct? Off to find George the Animal Steel to confirm my thoughts.
KC Joyner (3:07 PM)
Brown would be the only one of those three to consider but he rates below that trio on the start-sit charts.
KC Joyner (3:08 PM)
Quick heads up on the start-sit charts. They are available at a reduced FFB playoff price of $10 at www.thefootballscientist.com. Only site plug of the chat.
Crazy Luke Graham (Brother Billys Basement)
Am I crazy for starting Bryce Brown over Ray Rice in a PPR leauge? Also Det or Cinncy D? Happy Holidays!!!!!!!!!!!
KC Joyner (3:09 PM)
Funny thing that nickname was fairly apt for him, as the stories about him say he was a bit crazy. Rice rates over Brown, Lions over Cincy (but not by much).
Forte or Gore (DC)
When I think of NE, I always assume their opponent is going to perform poorly. I think Forte has a better chance against GB. Agree? Both are good D's.
KC Joyner (3:10 PM)
Do have Gore rated one step higher but it was with a bit of trepidation.
I'm Moe Greene! (Las Vegas)
I made my bones when you were going out with cheerleaders! Need 2 RB in .5PPR, from Morris, Sproles, DMAC & Bryce Brown and No, I buy you out, you don't buy me out.
KC Joyner (3:11 PM)
Best movie of all time. Can't wait until my eldest is old enough to watch it. Got Morris and Sproles rated higher in a PPR format.
KC, I have been starting VDavis at TE and despite this I am still in the semi's. Have you seen anything on tape to suggest VD can be productive this week? Or should I pull the plug and use D Clark or Pitta instead? THX!!
KC Joyner (3:12 PM)
Can't say the tape offers much in the way of thinking Davis will improve. Start Pitta.
The Anvil (Jim Neidhart)
Do you think the Giants would take Wilson off kick return duty if he ends up getting the lead RB role this week? Also, do you agree that the Giants don't tend to use Wilson as a pass catcher much? My league is ppr plus return yards, and Wilson was on my bench last week, of course. Thanks!
KC Joyner (3:13 PM)
Wilson was probably on a lot of FFB benches last week but won't be this week if Bradshaw's injury status is still iffy. They likely won't take him off of kickoff duty IMO because they need that type of weapon in the return game.
How will DX do if defenses start to double-team him?
KC Joyner (3:14 PM)
This week it probably won't matter because Carolina doesn't have any good CBs in their secondary. It's part of why he rates second on the WR start-sit charts.
Da Bad Guy Razor Ramon (Miami)
Hey Chico, need one. Turner, Shorts, or David Wilson?
KC Joyner (3:16 PM)
Just got through watching the new WWE NWO DVD a few days ago. Pretty good documentary and my kids liked seeing the match where Hogan turns and the fans pelt the ring with garbage. Shorts if he plays, Turner if he doesn't (and assuming Bradshaw is good to go).
David (Seattle WA)
Jets Defense or Dolphins? Jets are a better Defense that earns their points every week, while the Dolphins are up against a team that gives up points to everyone.
KC Joyner (3:17 PM)
Like the Jets more this week because the Titans are having O line issues.
You mentioned Carolina having no DBs -- have you seen anything on tape to suggest Gates is worth starting this week?
KC Joyner (3:18 PM)
Gates was actually dropped to a red rating this week (can't believe he's fallen that far) but if ever there was a route for a comeback, this is it. Carolina's secondary is abysmal. Given the poor state of FFB TEs this year, Gates may be as good of play as any of the longshots.
This question has come up in every chat so far today. So obviously we need your opinion as well. Freeman or Rodgers.
KC Joyner (3:18 PM)
Might as well join the crowd! Got Freeman rated slightly higher.
KC you had my curiousity, now you have my attention. Better flex start, CJ2K or Morris? And how do you think Cousins or a hurt RG3 will affect the skins?
KC Joyner (3:20 PM)
That looks like an entertaining movie. Leonardo looks like he was made to play the role of a suave, Civil War-era bad guy. Got Morris rated higher. Think RG3 will play and their run game will still be just as strong because of that.
My first wrestling memory was when Kamala sent corporal kirchner out on a military stretcher my Dad took me to that match and he still talks about it to this day. Anyway trust Dez or start Crabtree?
KC Joyner (3:22 PM)
Haven't heard the name Corporal Kirchner in a very long time. Believe Kamala's real-life job was driving a truck (if memory serves correct). Start Crabtree.
Earlier in the chat you mentioned both Vernon and Gates having red ratings. With that in mind would you start a longshot like Scheffler over them?
KC Joyner (3:23 PM)
Longshot is the rating Gates and Vernon have, so they would all be in that same boat. Would probably start Gates out of that group because of the state of the Carolina secondary.
Living abroad and need some help in week 2 of my playoffs -- Carson or Kaepernick this week?
KC Joyner (3:24 PM)
Good to have an international addition to the chat! Got Kaepernick rated higher because of his rushing skills.
Hulk (Hogan )
My wrestling knowledge is limited but I tried. Who's a better flex: Leshoure or L. Moore?
KC Joyner (3:26 PM)
I say this every week - it doesn't require wrestling knowledge to get a question posted. Humor will always a question to the top, and brevity and asking an interesting question (whether start-sit, keeper, etc.) is a plus. Got Leshoure rated a bit higher.
Torn between Cinn and StL Defenses...don't you think the Rams could completely shut down Minnesota by stacking the box? Just have this feeling my guys will show up tonight on TNF...
KC Joyner (3:28 PM)
Mascaras looked so cool in the magazines but he wasn't nearly as compelling hearing him talk or seeing him wrestle. Like the Rams D a lot (check out this week's TFS ESPN Insider article on St. Louis - http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/8742986/nfl-why-new-york-jets-st-louis-rams-make-postseason) but not enough to vault that D over Cincy.
Semi-finals help (Fantasyland)
KC could you pleas explain why you would start Pitta over Clark against a weak NO def?
KC Joyner (3:29 PM)
Because Pitta has shown a propensity for posting double-digit points of late. Do like Clark's upside and neither is rated as a high-end start.
Mr. Bob Backlund (Princeton, MN)
Hey KC. I'm really locked in a Crossfaced Chicken Wing here. PPR league for the Title. At flex, Bryce Brown or Miles Austin?
KC Joyner (3:31 PM)
That he held the WWWF title for long is simply amazing. Brown gets the nod here (last week was likely an anomaly based on TB's weakness against the pass and strength against the run).
Any explanation for why people are so low on Luck this week?
KC Joyner (3:32 PM)
Not sure, but he rates sixth on the TFS start-sit QB charts. Houston can get after the passer but they are having huge coverage issues of late.
Andy Kaufman (Moon)
Afternoon KC! I'm in agony here...I'm a huge underdog this week and need to pick 2 RBs between R. Bush, DMC, V. Ballard, J. Bell, and D. Wilson. Who would you pick oh wise one?
KC Joyner (3:33 PM)
There is a video detailing Kaufman's exploits as the intergender wrestling champion. He plays the heel role to the hilt and the backstory as to how he ended up in that role is hilarious. Can't remember the name of the movie but it's worth watching. DMC rates highest but that could change if Wilson ends up starting over Bradshaw.
Ned Flanders (Springfield)
Well hi-diddly-oh neighbor! Hope you're an old school Simpsons fan. Please help -- Garcon or Steve Smith this week?
KC Joyner (3:35 PM)
Sure am. Their classic material was positively subversive. Got Garcon rated higher (Smith has a tough CB matchup) but that would change if RG3 does not start.
Ted Arcidi (Boston)
Miles Austin or T.Y. Hilton??
KC Joyner (3:36 PM)
He's the person who inspired HHH to pursue a wrestling career. Got Austin rated a bit higher.
Mick Foley (Steel Cage)
Re: Kauffman Man on the moon by Jim Carey?Do your charts think Cromartie will stifle the newly resurgent Britt? Or does he get enough targets to still put out a decent WR2/3 line?
KC Joyner (3:37 PM)
Haven't seen that movie - probably need to but have held back because I don't want the real Kaufman to be overshadowed by the movie version. Still got Britt ranked 21st on the WR start-sit charts, so he is a solid WR3.
Cecil Shorts over Steve Smith now that we know Shorts is back?
KC Joyner (3:38 PM)
The initial chart rankings had Shorts rated a bit lower than Smith but if this news is accurate, Shorts would move higher than Smith.
Bart Simpson (Springfield)
All the "experts" have Myers rated higher than Gresham. What do your charts say oh wise one?
KC Joyner (3:39 PM)
Got a lot of faith in Gresham and have him rated slightly higher than Myers this week.
Talk me off the ledge! PPR Championship this week. I finished last year in last place so I need the win for sweet sweet redemption! Ride Matty Ice or roll the dice with kaepernick?? I'm a big Falcons fan, but the G-men have me worried.
KC Joyner (3:41 PM)
Congrats on making it to the title game! Got Ryan rated higher this week, as the Giants D just hasn't shown it can cover well enough to keep Atlanta in check.
Wrestling With Shadows (Bret Hart)
Does Ridley's streak of consistently good performances run out this weekend vs SF?
KC Joyner (3:42 PM)
NE will probably use a similar game plan as they used against Houston, which is to say they will use speed RBs against a power front seven. Issue is that Ridley will get enough usage and should score a TD, so he ranks 11th on the RB start-sit charts.
Pablo (Santa Fe)
How many hipsters to screw in a lightbulb? Its a obscure number you've never heard of. If Roddy sits on Sunday, does that help or hurt Julio? Thanks
KC Joyner (3:44 PM)
A subtle joke - I like it! With the state of the Atlanta pass game, Julio will be a must start even if Roddy ends up not playing.
Somehow I managed to get into the playoffs and need a miracle to win...might be a long shot given that I have to pick between Romo and Palmer. What say you? And in flex, Turner or M. Williams against NO? Thanks!
KC Joyner (3:45 PM)
Tough call, got Palmer rated a bit higher. Got Williams rated higher.
Help me, KC Joynerobi, you're my only hope. Clueless who to start: Bryce Brown, Benjarvus Green-Ellis, or Knowshon Moreno. Leaning BJGE...this is the championship game. Please help me stop the evil Empire from making me #2.
KC Joyner (3:46 PM)
My eldest calls my youngest Obi-Wan, so they will get a kick out of hearing that variation on their name! Got BJGE rated highest.
Tony Gurrera and Dean Ho(Champs) (Puerto Rico)
Read Roddy White didn't practice today? Do you trust him if he plays or do i go Gordon or Beanie Wells for flex? 0.5PPR
KC Joyner (3:46 PM)
If he plays, trust him. If he doesn't play, Gordon is the pick.
Oh My...... No Gronk. I have Tamme and Lewis as back ups. Not sure Tamme even get on the fiels that much. What do I do? Is Clay Harbor worth a pick up, if I can spell his name correctly>
KC Joyner (3:48 PM)
Start Tamme - he has maybe the best QB in the NFL and is facing a banged up secondary with a SS who missed Wednesday's practice.
Keeper question for the future. I have RGIII @ $15, T Rich @ $27, and ADP @$39. Rules allow for 6 years to be assigned with a max of 3 years per player. Any thoughts on best solution?
KC Joyner (3:49 PM)
That kind of question works best with a bit of reasoned thought behind it, but the quick reaction answer is to prioritize AP given the unsure state of RBs.
I know I can go look at the ranking but I can't decide between Mike Wallace and Britt???????
KC Joyner (3:50 PM)
That is a very tough call, as they rank 22nd & 23rd on the start-sit charts. Really a toss up, but Britt does rank 22nd so he'd be the pick.
Pitta or Clark? Stevie Johnson or Britt? Dwyer or Ballard? Injuries have made this entire last week so stressful but thankfully was able to land Danario and Shorts to make my magical title run possible. But...so many questions this week. I cant take it!!!
KC Joyner (3:52 PM)
Well, it may be stressful but it sure beats not making it to the postseason, right?! Got Pitta and Britt rated higher, with Dwyer/Ballard being rated dead even.
Taz (Red Hook)
I want to make sure I get another victim this week. Gotta choose between Ryan and Freeman. I'm leaning towards Freeman - but my opponent has Julio. Should that change things for me?
KC Joyner (3:54 PM)
He was part of what made ECW great. Favorite ECW wrestlers were the Dudleys - they could rile a crowd up like no one's business! Got Ryan rated higher but that grade assumes White will play. If White does not play, Freeman would rate higher.
PLEASE... (lunch break almost over)
Hi KC, I am in a PPR that gives 7 points for touchdowns. With that said, would you start Bryce Brown or Knowshon Moreno this week?
KC Joyner (3:55 PM)
Got them rated dead even on the PPR charts. Total toss up.
supafly (big I)
should I be concerned about aqib talib covering my man crabtree? he seemed to shut down andre Johnson last week. Or will he get manningham upon his return?
KC Joyner (3:55 PM)
Talib is hit-miss in coverage, so not much of a worry there.
"Byron" Russell Wilson or "Johnny" Carson Palmer this week?
KC Joyner (3:57 PM)
Been watching a Johnny Carson documentary (can't remember the name of it) and am constantly amazed at the depth and breadth of that man's talents. Got Wilson rated a bit higher this week.
Why is everyone so down on Romo this week? Aren't the Pit DBs banged up?
KC Joyner (3:58 PM)
It's the Dez injury and that Pittsburgh has been so good against the pass for most of the year. If Dez were fully healthy, Romo's grade would be much higher.
Ryan F. (Tulsa, OK) [via mobile]
Peyton will viciously exploit matchups. You said BAL SS missed practice. Would that help Tamme to the detriment of Decker? Or no real affect on Decker?
KC Joyner (3:59 PM)
No real impact on Decker, as the Ravens CBs have been less than shutdown candidates this year (except for Webb, but he's been out of the lineup for a while now).
KC - I made it!! Sorry I'm late. Do you think the AZ offense will get itself together? Or does Detroit skunk 'em? Thanks for all the help this season!!
KC Joyner (4:00 PM)
Got here just in time! AZ may shock the world but after looking as bad as they did last week (which extended a trend of really bad play on their part), one has to think Detroit will do quite well.
I'm having trouble with the Romo vs Kaepernick decision. Are you worried about the rook travelling to NE to face Belichek?
KC Joyner (4:01 PM)
There is a concern about heading to NE but Kaepernick can put up points on the ground so that gives him an insurance policy that Romo doesn't have.
Betty White (Miami)
Hey KC, in the championship game this week against the ghost of Estelle Getty, really need the win! Would you even consider Danario over Roddy, Demaryius, or AJ Green? Flex him over Sproles, Mathews or David Wilson? Thanks yo!
KC Joyner (4:03 PM)
Betty White rules! Mrs. Scientist is a huge fan of hers. Got DX, Green and Thomas ranked 2-3-4 on the WR start-sit charts. If Roddy plays, flex one of them and start the other three.
KC Joyner (4:05 PM)
What a fast hour! Great questions as usual. Quick notes before heading out - the TFS material is always posted on Twitter @KCJoynerTFS. Also try to answer as many FFB questions as possible there. Am taking part in an ESPN.com in-game chat tonight, so join the conversation if you can. The start-sits are available for a playoff reduced price of $10 at wwwthefootballscientist.com. Thanks again for the questions and hope to see you all here next week!
