KC Joyner (3:01 PM)
Good afternoon! Let's talk some playoff fantasy football!
James (Fantasy Superb Owl)
Thoughts on Rudolph this weekend? How does he compare to a guy like Martellus in your ratings/charts?
KC Joyner (3:02 PM)
Rudolph has what should be a very good matchup and, despite his recent scoring woes, he still rates as a yellow-rated TE on the start-sit charts. Put those two together and he ranks 11th, which is higher than Bennett's ranking 17th.
Kc, you are my man! The James Jones call was amazing last week. Need you to guide me to the fantasy chip...on that note, for this week:Bryce Brown OR Jackie BattleJames Jones OR Jennings. Jones scares me with only one grab besides the three tuddys
KC Joyner (3:04 PM)
Glad to help with that Jones pick. Thought he'd do well but 3 TDs was more than anyone figured he'd get. Brown over Battle (just can't trust the Chiefs offense) and Jones over Jennings.
Bob Vila (Home....again)
Who has the higher floor, Hartline or Britt?
KC Joyner (3:04 PM)
Close call, got Britt rated higher so he'd be the pick.
Harry Carry (Chi-Town)
If your fantasy football trophy was made out of spareribs...would you eat it?
KC Joyner (3:05 PM)
Absolutely. And Harry Carey's restaurant serves a terrific steak. Can't wait to take Mrs. Scientist there some day.
KC, So I lost Bowe and Floyd in the last two weeks in my ppr league. My other wr's are S Moss and Kerley so not much going there. Who is the better pickup, McCluster or Britt? Other wrs are S Smith and Green.
KC Joyner (3:06 PM)
Tough loss this late in the season. Would have to say Britt is the better pick.
Turnbuckle (the Animals belly!)
Shorts Ballard Sproles need 2?
KC Joyner (3:08 PM)
Seeing George Steele do an interview out of character is still one of the funniest things I've ever seen. Not because he was funny (although he actually is quite an entertaining person out of character) but rather because his character was so memorable it's hard to imagine him being very well-spoken. Shorts & Ballard unless it's a PPR, and then it would be Sproles and Shorts.
Am I overthinking playing either the Indy D/San Diego D over the Houston D with the way Adrian has been dominating lately?
KC Joyner (3:09 PM)
AD's performance kept Houston's defense ranked 10th in this week's start-sit charts. Indy rates higher against an abysmal Chiefs offense (Colts actually rank 2nd overall this week in the D/ST rankings).
Jimmy N. (Arlington)
Steaks on me if you have some SAGE advice about what to do with Arian Foster. should I sit him for Run DMC? I fear that Hou may sit him in a game they don't really need.
KC Joyner (3:10 PM)
Hey there, Jimmy! Always good to give some SAGE advice. Got Foster rated higher because Houston still has only a one-game lead for home-field advantage and Denver isn't likely to lose this week.
Corporal Kirchner (Defending your freedom )
What kicker has the best chance in blowing up this week. Kinda like Walsh and Seabass did last week. I know its a kicker question but Im sure they won a lot of people games last week
KC Joyner (3:12 PM)
Kickers are the one group of players the start-sit charts don't cover, but this week looks like a good one for Legatron. Tampa's defense can't do much of anything and the Rams O is playing at a very solid level overall.
Jimmy Graham (New Orleans)
I have been struggling lately...do you think I bounce back this week in a possibly shootout against Dallas?
KC Joyner (3:13 PM)
Graham has been getting targets and receptions, so that's good news from a volume perspective. The Dallas coverage on TEs has a green rating on the start-sit charts (green being most favorable to the offense), so he ranks 3rd among TE.
KC Joyner (3:13 PM)
Quick note on the start-sit charts - they are available for a playoff discounted price of $10 at www.thefootballscientist.com. Only site plug of the chat.
Koko (B Ware)
TFS - I am a subscriber but your service doesn't answer these questions. Pick one - Forte or Kaepernick - QB can be flexed in our league
KC Joyner (3:15 PM)
Hey, thanks for subscribing! Those two do have equal grades in the start-sit charts, so it is a toss-up as to who to start. All things being equal, a QB rates over a RB, especially if the QB can run. Start Kaepernick.
Pete (Troy, NY)
Won't Champ be on Gordon? Your intelligence shows otherwise.
KC Joyner (3:15 PM)
It would not be a surprise if the Broncos did not move Champ around this week. Gordon is good but, IMO, not good enough to warrant making that kind of a change to the D.
Greg Olsen (Carolins)
Bench me for an active Gronk? I feel like I'm right at the line where it is questionable.
KC Joyner (3:16 PM)
Olsen rates right below Gronk in the TE start-sit charts, but his start-sit grade is two ranks below. As long as Gronk is active, he wins this battle.
Kenny Williams (Hollywood Squares Set)
does Knowshawn have value in 2013 or should i go for the block and pick up the San Diego D before my opponent can?
KC Joyner (3:18 PM)
First Hollywood Squares reference we've had in the chat. Knowshon is playing at a level that says he has value in 2013, so he wins that battle.
David Arquette (Top of the cage)
Who would you start at the Flex in a standard league championship: Darren Sproles, Danny Amendola, Hakeem Nicks, or David Wilson?
KC Joyner (3:19 PM)
That was the most ridiculous title holder in the entire industry's history. Felt kind of bad for the guy, because he knew a lot of wrestlers would give their arm for that spot and he knew didn't deserve it. Sproles wins that battle.
Sam Bradford or Joe Flacco at the QB spot? think Bradford with more upside this ewek?
KC Joyner (3:20 PM)
Got Bradford rated just slightly higher on the start-sit charts but his upside is a lot higher than Flacco. Give him the start.
I need to sit one this week - who would you sit out of Spiller, Moreno, DMC, Fort? Thanks.
KC Joyner (3:21 PM)
Total toss-up. Would probably say Forte because the Bears offense has been sputtering of late and they have to travel out west to play a Cardinals D that has been playing well at times (the Seattle game notwithstanding).
Assuming he plays where does RG3 rank?
KC Joyner (3:22 PM)
Third among QBs. One of the few blue-rated players in the league.
Arn Anderson (4 Horseman Lounge)
Hey KC, do u think the 4 Horseman could stop AP... I'm so sure we could, I'm going to call the Packers front office and get us linebacker contracts for next Sunday just so we can keep Dickerson's record in tact... that being said, I have Austin, Lloyd, Maclin, Alexander and Shorts... need 2 plz... great job this year by the way....
KC Joyner (3:23 PM)
Only if they had Tully with them. He was the spark for that group and it was never the same without him. Shorts and Lloyd win. Quick note on DX - his matchup is highly unfavorable this week.
Randy Poffo (St Louis)
Have to play 4 out of these 5 (Amendola, R Wayne, Vjax, Shorts, R Cobb) Am i overthinking it by benching VJAX thinking the Ram corners are tough and Shorts will get garbage time Yards and catches? it's half point PPR league
KC Joyner (3:25 PM)
Didn't he play pro baseball under his real name? Jackson does have the toughest matchup of the bunch but he still rates higher than Amendola on the PPR charts. Having said that, Amendola has huge upside potential, so a case can be made to start him over VJax in certain scenarios.
Decker for upside of TD potential despite risk of blowout shutting down the passing game or Amendola in a PPR league?
KC Joyner (3:26 PM)
Really like Amendola's upside in a PPR league. Tampa's secondary has backups or overmatched CBs all over the place.
Mankind (Halfway between Top of Cage and the Announcers Table)
Hey there KC, quick question about next year. Any under the radar college players in bowl games that you are really looking at that you think might have an impact in fantasy next year?
KC Joyner (3:28 PM)
My kids play the WWE video games and those games feature that fall from something like 6 different angles. They are endlessly entertained by that. Going to be doing a lot of CFB reviews in the near future, so let's cover this question in next week's chat (which will be a combination of FFB and everything else football related).
Rex Ryan (NY (For now))
You know how bad I am at evaluating QB's KC, so who should I start for the championship, Peyton or Kaepernick? Please help KC, this could be my last payday for a while...
KC Joyner (3:29 PM)
It looks like Ryan will keep his job, so this joke may still have value going into next year. Got those two rated basically equal with Peyton having a slight edge, so start the Sheriff.
Dr. Kurt (Snowy NW Michigan)
Do you believe in bounce-back performances? Josh Freeman almost cost me a Super Bowl spot last week -- but I'm leaning toward the safer play of Matty Ice. Thoughts on players returning with a vengeance after a pathetic performance?
KC Joyner (3:30 PM)
Is that UP or LP? Matty Ice is playing at an MVP level (see this week's TFS ESPN Insider article for more details) and has a favorable matchup. Freeman may bounce back but Ryan should be started even if he does.
Super Bowl for me and I am playing juggle the QB. I think Stafford's short on weapons, Kap has a tough matchup and Bradford has a very low floor. Who do I go with?
KC Joyner (3:31 PM)
Go with the QB who can give you points on the ground. Kaepernick is the choice here.
Gene LaBell (YES! NO!)
Best WR3 option: D. Moore, T. Smith, Hankerson, Avery, Givens? All or nothing!
KC Joyner (3:32 PM)
Judo Gene LaBell. If memory serves correct, he taught Roddy Piper how to fight (in real life). Really like Moore's matchup, so he's the pick.
Too many good players to keep next year. Please pick 2: RGIII, AP, Alf, Megatron. Thanks for your help!
KC Joyner (3:34 PM)
Amazing collection of talent there. Since RBs will be at a premium next year (there is a dearth of RB talent right now), AP is the first pick. Would probably say RG3 for the other pick, as Megatron can tend to be a bit too hit or miss.
Baljeet (Tri State Area)
Yes Randy did play pro baseball under his real name! More shocking moment, Piper smashing the coconut on Snuka or Shawn Michaels Superkicking Janetty thru the Barbershop? How many touches for Shady McCoy this week you think?
KC Joyner (3:36 PM)
Now that's a cool post. Has a Phineas and Ferb, Macho Man, Piper and Shawn Michaels reference. Piper and the coconut wins because it helped inspire CM Punk to become what he's become today. Thinking Shady gets 20 or so rushes/receptions.
Candy (Slippery Rock)
Can Danario bounceback this week? Or should I go with Greg Jennings?
KC Joyner (3:37 PM)
Really don't like Danario's matchup this week - Cro is capable of shutting down any WR in the NFL. He still rates over Jennings but there is a big risk factor, so if avoiding the zero means more than getting 8-10 points, start Jennings.
Ted Striker (The Plane)
Surely, you can't be serious. / I am serious; and don't call me Shirley
KC Joyner (3:37 PM)
You know, it does help to ask a question when posting comedic comments.
Santa's Elves (shhhh KC filling out our FF roster)
non ppr better choice: D.Wilson,Sproles or both and best D: Seattle or arizona? See you soon
KC Joyner (3:39 PM)
Hey, you guys aren't the only ones here wasting company time to fill out your fantasy football roster! This chat has cost the corporate world untold thousands of dollars in productivity. Sproles over Wilson. Arizona over Seattle.
Dr. Rumack (Airplane)
Hey Striker, quit stealing my lines! You have GB Def over Colts like the other rankers?
KC Joyner (3:40 PM)
Got the Colts defense rated second overall, with only the Bears rated in front of them.
Hercules Hernandez (The Heenan Family)
Anwser this or feel the rath of my chain! Green Bay or New England for my D/ST this week?
KC Joyner (3:41 PM)
Heenan is so talented that he almost got Hernandez over with the crowd. Got NE rated slightly higher than GB this week.
With Raiders flirting with giving Pryor some reps, I gotta go with Bradford over Palmer, right?
KC Joyner (3:42 PM)
They rate basically equal on the start-sit charts but Bradford has a ton of upside potential that Palmer probably doesn't have. Would start Bradford in that one.
Stuck in the Chimney (Haystacks Calhoun)
KC better defense for finals----GB or Jets?
KC Joyner (3:43 PM)
Now that's a funny visual! Imagining Haystacks trying to play Santa and not realizing it's a bad idea until he's halfway down the chimney. If he were alive today, it would make for a hilarious WWE vignette. Jets win this one, as the gut feel is that SD will mail this game in.
KC, your advise helped me to the SB. Last week you told me to go Pitta over Davis...37 point difference there.THANK YOU!...this week I'm torn at the flex spot between Jennings and Wilson (ppr) Who you got?
KC Joyner (3:44 PM)
Glad that worked out! Congrats! Tough call on this one since Wilson's PT is based on Bradshaw's health. Even with that caveat, still have Wilson rated higher so give him the start.
Tod (Sedona, AZ)
KC you've always been good to me and I'm in the finals for the first time in many a year. Questions abound on my roster but flex is the biggest. I have McCoy, Brown and Britt. Which is the safest and which has the highest upside? Merry Christmas and thanks!
KC Joyner (3:45 PM)
Congrats on getting to the finals! None of them are really safe picks but McCoy would have to be considered the safest given his long history of production.
Not a cute name, wrestling move, etc. (Everywhere)
I don't watch wrestling. I'm not a girl. I haven't read Slotback Rhapsody. Hopefully though you'll answer me. Keeper questions, 14 team PPR. Where do you see Percy Harvin, Dez Bryant, and Alf Morris being drafted?
KC Joyner (3:47 PM)
Hey, it doesn't take any of those things to get posted. As has been noted many times, the easiest way to get posted is to make a comedic reference of some kind. Morris will be drafted highest out of that bunch because RBs will be at even more of a premium next year. Harvin and Bryant would be low-end WR1s because of their injury issues.
many of your peers don't see belichik sending ridley to his room this week. how do you feel? seems like the perfect week to bench him. start him week 17 and see how he does prior to depending on him in the playoffs. bolden being back give belichik more options.
KC Joyner (3:49 PM)
Ridley doesn't get a lot of use against teams that have powerful run Ds because Belichick wants to use speed players in that situation. Jacksonville is not a powerful run D, so Ridley will get plenty of PT this week.
Enjoy the Keeper articles. 10 team standard but 6 pts for passing TD. I'll have the 9th pick in the first round and snake follows. Keep three: Brees in the 1st, Lynch in the 2nd, AJ Green in the 4th, Dez in the 5th, Shorts in the 16th, Moreno in the 16th. Thanks!
KC Joyner (3:52 PM)
Thanks for reading them. Might end up doing those as an annual thing. Quick answer on this would be Brees, Lynch and Green. Just don't like Dez's injury issues, Green is a blue rated player and RB talent is so thin that someone like Lynch is a must keep. Might even consider not keeping Brees with the No.1 and keeping Moreno in his place if there is enough QB talent not being kept in the league.
Chris Jericho (Walls of Jericho)
Gates is performing like I lionsaulted him one too many times. But TE's overall have sucked and the only alternatives are Watson, Chandler and Clark. I got no choice do I?
KC Joyner (3:53 PM)
TEs have been a huge disappointment this year in FFB. Just some awful performances. Gates does rate the best out of that bunch, but not by much.
Lou Brown (Cleveland)
Last week you nailed it for me with your pick of Crabtree over Dez. How about this week? Crabtree, Dez or Amendola. Half point per reception
KC Joyner (3:54 PM)
Let's hope this can be two in a row. Really like Crabtree's matchup this week, and it will get even better if Sherman loses his appeal tomorrow and is ruled out of the game. Start Crabtree.
Does Scheffler move up in your rankings if Pettigrew is out? If so, how much? Have Gronk(if he goes), Bennett or can pick up Pitta? For PPR league.
KC Joyner (3:55 PM)
Scheffler will likely rate as a high-end red-rated TE or low-end yellow-rated TE. Gronk rates higher in either case and so would Pitta, so pick up Pitta and wait to see the word on Gronk.
David Arquette (Top of the Cage)
Why is everyone so high on Sproles? even in standard leagues? i cant see how he beats out Amendola vs TB this week
KC Joyner (3:56 PM)
He is managing to post double digit games in standard leagues and in a PPR he's got a ton of upside. Having said that, if playing for upside, Amendola wins that battle.
Do the laws of gravity exist on your stove? (New York, New York)
What up KC. I haven't gotten one answer this year from anyone. Need to pick two out of Lloyd, T Smith, Jennings, Crabtree, and David Wilson. Also, would it make a difference if Bradshaw plays or not? Thanks
KC Joyner (3:58 PM)
Let's end that streak. Start Lloyd and Crabtree. If Bradshaw is out, Wilson could start over Lloyd.
KC Joyner (4:00 PM)
Well, it's been a really fun chat but I've got to hit the road a couple of minutes early to record this week's ESPN Insider Audio Blindsided podcast with Cary Chow. Quick notes before heading out. The TFS material is always posted on Twitter @KCJoynerTFS. The start-sit charts are available for a discounted playoff price of $10 at www.thefootballscientist.com. Thanks again for all of the questions and hope to see you all here next week to talk some FFB and anything else football related!
