Radi Nabulsi (12:01 PM)
We will get started shortly. I might be a little loopy today as I had asked for the day off but forgot that today was my day for the chat. I hope everyone is enjoying the holidays.
Did Atkins get the ACT score he needed?
Radi Nabulsi (12:03 PM)
Defensive tackle John Atkins told me he would find out today the results of his latest ACT score. I have not heard from him yet today. He was pretty confident when he took the test though.
If NSD was today who do you think we would finish with?
Radi Nabulsi (12:04 PM)
Laremy Tunsil, Toby Johnson and maybe Alvin Kamara
DJ Tippins (Anderson, SC) [via mobile]
How is the Georgia defense going to look next year?
Radi Nabulsi (12:07 PM)
New. In a nutshell there will be a lot of new faces. Two new safeties, a new cornerback, a new nickleback, new outside linebacker (maybe Chase Vasser gets his job back though), likley a new nose and at least a new defensive end. I see Amarlo Herrera holding down one inside linebacker spot but the other is wide open. So aside from Garrison Smith, Damian Swann, Herrera, and Jordan Jenkins, there will be a huge rebuild on defense.
How has Jonathan Taylor developed this year while redshirting? Will he be ready to step in to a backup or possibly a starting role next year?
Radi Nabulsi (12:13 PM)
We don't get to see him very often since the parts of practice where he really gets after it are closed top the media. I have heard great things about his development though. I expect Taylor to be a serious talent for Georgia.
Do you expect any possible recruiting surprises for UGA in the next 5 weeks?
Radi Nabulsi (12:17 PM)
It is easy to answer yes just due to the inevitable nature of recruiting flips this time of year. I am keeping an eye on 27 year old Jai Miller, a professional baseball player who is now going to give football a try. His tuition is being paid for by the Oriels I think so he would not count against the scholarship limit. In other words a walk-on. Also keep an eye on Shaq Wiggins. He could very well flip to South Carolina.
Lance (Marietta )
Has laremy tunsil silently committed?
Radi Nabulsi (12:22 PM)
If he had I would not answer that. Not just because it would be a jerk move on my part but rather a silent commit means nothing. Heck, nowadays a public commit means little. All a commitment means is that "this is my leader for now." Kids commit silently all the time. And they change their mind all the time. If I reported a silent commit it would mean I broke the recruits trust or that the coaches told me. The later doesn't happen as we cannot talk to coaches and the former is a good way to lose all credibility in the business. If a prospect won't go on the record with a commitment, then the commitment in our eyes did not happen.
Steve (Flowery Branch)
If Aaron Murray goes pro do you think it will be Mason or can Lamay beat him out?
Radi Nabulsi (12:23 PM)
Hutson Mason will be the starting quarterback is Murray goes to the NFL.
Montravious Adams (GA)
So, Radi. Where do you think I'll be playing next year? And what will be the main factor?
Radi Nabulsi (12:25 PM)
I often get a lot of fake names in these chats but I want to answer this one if it was the real Adams. 1 - Even you have no idea where you are going. 2 - Your mother, Debbie Young, will be the main factor.
I don't think that Murray is good enough for the next level
Radi Nabulsi (12:25 PM)
Kinda feel like Dawg Nation and experts who are looking ahead to next season see Dawgs as a 7-5 or 8-4 type season. I hope I'm wrong but that seems about right with all the losses on defense. Do you think us Dawg fans can expect much better than that.
Radi Nabulsi (12:29 PM)
I think 9-3 is possible and maybe better but a lot of the teams Georgia faces next year are getting better while the Bulldogs regroup. LSU, Clemson, South Carolina and Florida will all be tough. How many of those do you think the new defense can stop, especially with three of them in September?
Why do you think Norman played ahead of Moore at safety last year? I just figured a former Army All American would be better suited than a walk on (no offense to Norman). It would have been a great chance to get his feet wet for 2013.
Radi Nabulsi (12:31 PM)
Connor Norman knows the defense better. He has the most knowledge of the assignments and where everyone is supposed to be. I was told at one point he was Georgia's best safety. He just doesn't have the athletic gifts the others have.
We know J. Jones loves UGA. Is there still a glimmer of hope that he returns for his senior year?
Radi Nabulsi (12:33 PM)
I would be floored if that happened. My answer is no. I hate to snuff out hope this close to Christmas but every indication and conversation I have had says he is gone. For his sake I hope he does go.
Who do you think leads for Foster? How much does Matthews play into it as he will already be on campus when Foster takes his OV?
Radi Nabulsi (12:35 PM)
I say Auburn still leads for Reuben Foster. Georgia and Alabama are two and three in my guess. I think Tray Matthews hosting Reuben on campus will be a strong pull but his family situation in Auburn, Ala., may keep him there.
Where does Rueben Foster end up? Do you really see him committing to Auburn or Alabama again?
Radi Nabulsi (12:37 PM)
He already has the Auburn tattoo (despite his claims that it doesn't mean anything about where he is going) and his daughter and mother live in Auburn. His mom, who watches the little girl, likes it there and that could cause Reuben to stay with the Tigers.
Are there any updates on the job search for a replacement for garner at the defensive line and recruiting coordinator positions?
Radi Nabulsi (12:42 PM)
We were told that Todd Grantham was flooded with calls from college and professional coaches that wanted the defensive line coach position. Not sure who those folks are but Grantham seems to know everybody. He was in the calling stage before Christmas so we will soon see how far along he has gotten after things return to normal (if there is such a thing). As for the recruiting coordinator position, I have not heard anything. I expect John Lilly would get the promotion but we will see.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
What is the worst College Football Bowl Game that Georgia has Played in?
Radi Nabulsi (12:44 PM)
2001 Music City Bowl against Boston College is my choice. Awful, absolutely awful.
Bobs's Burgers (Ga)
when will we hear any news on Alec and Jarvid draft options. Are they staying or going. Any chance we get one back ?
Radi Nabulsi (12:46 PM)
I have heard both are going pro, but I would not expect an announcement until after the bowl game.
Based on some quotes from Crowder it seems like UGA hasn't been after him as hard as Clemson has. Why do you think that is and would you expect UGA to turn the heat up in the in the next month?
Radi Nabulsi (12:48 PM)
Tyrone Crowder could be a victim of Georgia's dwindling spots in this class. Also, they don't really need a guard right now so much as they need tackles. All their focus has been on Laremy Tunsil. That seems to have been a good idea.
DC (Atlanta )
Who do you think will be the #1 player in the country in 2014?
Radi Nabulsi (12:49 PM)
Maybe Da'shawn Hand?. Just a guess since it is really too early to tell.
How much will Jarvis run defense that was exposed vs. Alabama hurt him in the upcoming draft? Is he still a top 10 pick?
Radi Nabulsi (12:51 PM)
Won't matter at all. I mean how many guys can take on an Alabama double team and still make plays. Commanding the attention of two players is a highly coveted (and well-rewarded) player attribute in the NFL.
Kevin (Sandy Springs)
What are the chances that UGA makes a move towards going after another WR in this recruiting class?
Radi Nabulsi (12:55 PM)
If they lose a commit they might but I just don't see why they would. The receiving corps is deep and they have already signed Jonathon Rumph. Blake Tibbs redshirted and Justin Scott-Wesley has yet to see the field in a meaningful manner. With Uriah LeMay, J.J. Green, Tramel Terry, Rico Johnson and Reggie Davis on the way, it would seem they are done. In fact, I think they only want one receiver in 2014. But if one of these guys flipped they could try to replace him.
With Kennar Johnson possibly out. Will the staff target a new db? M. Alexander or someone like the former fsu commit, Baker I think.
Radi Nabulsi (12:58 PM)
They still want Kennar Johnson I understand.
With Coach Gardner taking the job at Auburn how do you think this will affect the chances of getting Mo Adams and Toby attending Georgia? And is there any news of who might be the new D-Line Coach?
Radi Nabulsi (12:58 PM)
I think it hurts Georgia with Montravius Adams but will not affect Toby Johnson.
Just curious with all the talent we have on roster and what is coming in why everyone is saying "rebuild" and not "reload" I think we underachieved a little bit as far as stats go. Should be just as good if not better statistically. Whats your take Radi?
Radi Nabulsi (1:04 PM)
Talent doesn't not equal production. Those guys have to learn what to do first. We mentioned Corey Moore earlier. I he doesn't know where to be then all the talent in the world won't help him. If Tray Matthews doesn't learn his assignments, it won't matter that he could be the next Sean Jones. The new players will need game experience before they can be called equivalent to the guys they are replacing. I guess what I am trying to say is that the new, talented players need experience before they will be as good as the players leaving.
Steve (Mt Pleasant)
Of all the 2013 recruits who will make the most immediate impact in the fall?
Radi Nabulsi (1:15 PM)
I would say the safeties like Tray Matthews, Shaq Fluker and Kennar Johnson just based on need or wide receiver Jonathon Rumph. Maybe Laremy Tunsil if he commits to Georgia.
Jason (Macon )
Lot of rumors about Kennar Johnson not being an EE and UGA maybe not taking him. What's the story with him?
Radi Nabulsi (1:18 PM)
As it stands Johnson will not get in early. Georgia did not send him the paperwork to sign and I was told he needs to appeal to be a mid-year enrollee. Not sure if the appeal will get him in for January. I do believe that they still want him though.
Do you see UGA having a player surprise everyone and enter the draft early?
Radi Nabulsi (1:24 PM)
I thought Garrison Smith might consider it but he says he is staying for now.
Kevin (Hampton, Va)
What is does the future hold for QB Aaron Murray?
Radi Nabulsi (1:25 PM)
Success I expect. Whether it is in college or the pros remains to be seen.
Why did Georgia not use all of their 15 bowl practices?
Radi Nabulsi (1:27 PM)
Did they not? I know they still have a few scheduled for Orlando. I will have to ask.
With Terry injury, I'm guessing Alvin is that much more important. Will UGA use these guys correctly? JJ Green, T. Terry and Alvin K. Seems to me they did not use Keith Marshall properly. With all the receivers that went down why didn't we see Marshall in the slot on the field the same time with TG3?
Radi Nabulsi (1:32 PM)
I trust that Georgia will find the right spot for them. They could have but Marshall there in the slot but why not use all the receivers they had available first? I would like to have seen what Justin Scott Wesley could do. Plus Marshall was a good counter-punch to Gurley and that works best if he comes off the sideline fresh.
Paul C (ATL)
My confidence in signing R. Foster is wanning. What is the latest on him and your prediction.
Radi Nabulsi (1:35 PM)
I mentioned earlier that I think Auburn is still out front. When he decommitted, Georgia coaches were right there. They spoke to him often and at great length. I think he did not want to flip to anybody after he decommitted as he was worried about what folks thought of him. He is taking things slower this time around. Georgia will have another chance but Auburn will get many more as he lives right there.
Abdullah T. Butcher (The Sudan)
Your Twitter av brings me great honor, my son.
Radi Nabulsi (1:36 PM)
I try. @radinabulsi
Radi Nabulsi (1:37 PM)
Folks, I have to go. Enjoyed the questions as always. See you in the new year!
