KC Joyner (3:00 PM)
Good afternoon! Let's talk some football!
Panic Button... (Florida)
Sitting Jordy Nelson in week 17 killed me last year....Fantasy Bowl dilemma this year; Gonzalez vs. Gresham, Julio Jones vs. Harry Douglas... Happy New Year!!!
KC Joyner (3:01 PM)
Happy New Year to you as well! Question for all of the chatters - what was the best gift you received this week? Tough calls there, would probably start Gresham over Gonzalez and still have to start Jones over Douglas.
Mike Wallace (Pittsburgh)
Hey, bro, quit saying I'm better than Megatron. You're making people hate me. I'm good, but I'm not even in his atmosphere. No one is.
KC Joyner (3:03 PM)
Funny thing I said that over two years ago and things have changed since then. Megatron is playing better now than he was then (which is amazing) and Wallace has suffered through QB injuries and an offensive system change that has limited what he can do for the Steelers. Having said that, Megatron is the best WR in the NFL today.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
Who do you think will play in Super Bowl XLVII?
KC Joyner (3:04 PM)
As it stands now, Atlanta and Denver would be the picks. Think NE has a great shot as well in the NFC but unless they host the Broncos, Denver would likely win a matchup between those teams.
Week 17 help. Ryan, Ben or Kap. And for the tough one DX or James Jones. Thanks.
KC Joyner (3:05 PM)
Kap, as the Niners are not likely to repeat last week's dud of a performance. DX has a ton of upside with his matchup, so play him if you need that potential. If not, play Jones.
Adam R (Baltimore)
Do you have any gripes about how the Pro Bowl voting went down?
KC Joyner (3:06 PM)
Richard Sherman probably belonged on the roster but his off-field issues at the time the voting was occurring likely kept him off of many ballots. If they need a fill-in at CB, he should be the first person selected.
How about Dez Bryant's play? Anything close to Megatron in terms of the metrics?
KC Joyner (3:07 PM)
Yeah, but over a much shorter period of time. If Bryant could keep that up for most of a 16-game schedule, then he can talk about being in Johnson's league.
Best gift? Easy. Had the entire family over on Christmas day and I fixed a med/rare prime rib roast, etc. and opened some terrific wine. How about you KC? FYI: auto update isn't on. Any chance you could answer the question asked by Capt. Lou Albano in a separate post?
KC Joyner (3:09 PM)
Sorry about that - auto-update has now been activated! Sounds like a good Christmas meal and drink. Best gift I got was the A Football Life DVD series one. Good stuff. Send over that Capt Lou question in an email and I'll gladly answer it (long form questions work better in that format).
playing for 3rd and better draft spot for 2013...Ridley or Battle..yes I know if this were week 5 no question but do you think Battle can go out with a bang agains pathetic Oakland run D
KC Joyner (3:10 PM)
Put it this way - Battle could have some upside potential Ridley might not have. Having noted that, the Patriots need this win badly and they could have a lot of scoring chances against the Fins. Ridley would be the pick.
Thoughts on Russell Wilson going forward? He has to have exceeded expectations.
KC Joyner (3:11 PM)
Only issue is whether or not he can do this on a consistent basis. It looks like that won't be an issue but he still does need to show this can be done for most of a season rather than just the tail end of it.
Considering the hollidays and all, can you give me any reasons I should feel good about my Cowboys on Sunday night?
KC Joyner (3:12 PM)
We just talked it - Dez Bryant. He's capable of torching the Redskins secondary for some insane numbers.
Special Delivery Jones (WrestleMania I)
Pick three keepers from the following...RGIII $14, Calvin Johnson $35, Jamaal Charles $11 or Lynch $18???
KC Joyner (3:14 PM)
SD Jones - now that's a blast from the past! Got to keep RG3 and Megatron, as they could be the best players at their positions and those are quality prices to pay for that type of performance. Would keep Lynch over Charles simply because of the question marks surrounding the Chiefs offense.
Willie Beamen (Miami)
I'm trying to win KC. I ain't trying to disrespect nobody, but winning is the only thing I respect...PPR Flex, DMAC or D. Alexander, thanks
KC Joyner (3:14 PM)
Alexander. His matchup is highly favorable.
HELP!!!! dont know who to play in flex, normally I play julio jones, but he may not get many, if any, snaps. Do I start DMC or Sproles in his place?? thanks for the help
KC Joyner (3:15 PM)
Is this a PPR league? If so, Sproles is the hands down winner. If not, start DMC.
Falcons situation scares me and it's finals week! Roll the dice with Ryan or suck it up and take 4 quarters from Tannehill or Vick?
KC Joyner (3:16 PM)
Take four quarters with Vick. Got a gut feel the Eagles are going to go all out to end this season on a high note. Plus, Andy Reid will call for about 15 passes to be thrown Corey Webster's way.
What's your view on the three DPOY leaders--Watt, Miller, Smith. I think Smith is hurt by the fact that his impact is definitely limited when Justin Smith is not in the game. Watt has better numbers than Miller, but watching the two of them play it seems that their impact on a play by play basis is equal if not slightly better for Miller.
KC Joyner (3:17 PM)
A few weeks ago I was of the mindset that Smith should get it, but now I'm on the Miller bandwagon. Smith's play fell off too much without Justin Smith and Watt hasn't been quite as impactful as Miller.
Best sleeper TE this week with highest upside?
KC Joyner (3:18 PM)
Might say Marcedes Lewis. Got to like his matchup against the Titans.
Pete (Troy, NY)
Hi KC, Who has the better chance of a big game, Hilton with the emotional Colts on coaches return or Lloyd with chance Fins's Smith is out Pat's need for a win? Thanks
KC Joyner (3:19 PM)
Like both of their chances but would take Lloyd due to the matchup and having the better QB (no offense to Luck).
BD (12th Man Dominion)
Would love to see a full '13 keeper list from you this year. Also, what's your favorite keeper set up? 3 players each from 12 teams set, but waffling on if it's 1st 3 rds regardless or where they were drafted. Also, what about undrafted?
KC Joyner (3:20 PM)
I'll ask my editors if we can find some space for that kind of article. Don't really have a favorite set-up per se, but generally speaking do like having a limited number of keepers. It makes draft day that much more exciting.
mick (couch in san jose)
gift card for my favorite sushi restaurant. Unagi time. In a league where i can use a player only once a season and need some big plays to catch first place. at wr randy moss/ crabtree or jennings/ james jones?
KC Joyner (3:21 PM)
Good food always makes for a good holiday. Like Crabtree's odds to have a good game, would rate Jones and Jennings a very close second.
Ryan (Germantown, MD)
I'm not happy with the situation the Giants are in KC. The game that scares me the most for their playoff hopes is the Bears-Lions. What are the chances the Lions get the win?
KC Joyner (3:23 PM)
The Lions do have a penchant for getting after the opposing passer, so that's a plus. And they have Megatron, who is capable of beating anyone, including the Bears Pro Bowl CBs. Detroit also tends to do well in the forced BDR category, so they could take advantage of Cutler errors. Not saying the Lions will win, but am saying it wouldn't be shocking if they did.
The Matt Ryan/Julio Jones connection got me to the title game. Do I ditch them for Wilson and Lance Moore? Worried about Ryan holding a clipboard. Thanks KC!
KC Joyner (3:23 PM)
PT is everything in week 17. Got to go with Wilson and Moore in this case.
Al (Wausau, WI)
KC, do you see Adrian Peterson: a) Reaching 2,000 rushing yards for the season and b) Breaking Eric Dickerson's rushing record on Sunday against the Packers?
KC Joyner (3:24 PM)
Yes to the first one, no to the second one.
Pete (Troy, NY)
Is Blackmon going to play a good game this weekend? It seems he has been coming on despite the success Shorts was having. The Jags sure played well for the first half against the Pats. What does your scouting eyes say about Blackmon for next year? Thank You
KC Joyner (3:25 PM)
In a nutshell, Blackmon over the past two seasons has been a very good WR when motivated and a so-so WR when not. The change to Henne seemed to motivate him, so that would be a plus if Henne is under center next year. If it turns out to be Tebow under center, however, look for Blackmon to possibly lose some of that motivation level that would be the result of a team moving to a run-first offense.
The D is silent hillbilly. Up 40 in standard scoring 2 week championship and needing safe plays. Witten or Graham at TE, and DX, Torrey Smith vs Sherman, or hurt Cobb at WR?
KC Joyner (3:27 PM)
Really want to see that movie. Leo looks perfect for that role and I'm a sucker for any Tarantino movie. Toss up at TE, would probably take Witten. DX might be the safest pick out of that group.
Middle of a 2-week title game, currently 110-108. Would it be dumb to bench the Texans' D (against a ChuckStrong Colts team, on the road, fired-up home crowd) for the Bills' D (against Mark Sanchez, at home, in 2 feet of snow)?
KC Joyner (3:28 PM)
You are right that the Texans could be headed into a buzz saw. It would be much better to take a Bills D against Sanchez in this case.
Would you keep Julio or Dez in a .5 PPR? No loss of pick.
KC Joyner (3:29 PM)
Both have a history of injuries but Dez has volatility outside of his injuries. Would keep Julio.
For a flex keeper would you keep Trent Richardson, Alfred Morris or Reggie Wayne?
KC Joyner (3:30 PM)
It's hard to say until the Browns show their hand for the 2013 season. As it stands now, Morris would be the pick but that might change to Richardson if Cleveland changes coaches.
Hi KC. Thanks for a season full of good chats. I'm in the championship this week, and am really down to one critical decision. Do I roll with Roddy in limited time? Or do I got for Sproles or Maclin instead?
KC Joyner (3:30 PM)
PT is everything. Go with Sproles.
Better keeper: Spiller in 8th round (can also be kept following year in 6th round) or Graham in 7th round (can't be kept in following year)? 10 team league can only keep 1 drafted in 6th round or later. Thanks!
KC Joyner (3:32 PM)
Tough call. It's two years of Spiller but his productivity can be more easily replicated than Graham's. Graham would be the pick because he'd be harder to replace.
Vincent Vega (Pulp Fiction)
What do they call a Big Mac? Which 2 to keep with the round I lose for keeping - Rice (1st), Doug Martin (4th), Luck (11th), Cobb (14th)..1/2 PPR and RBs are scarce...
KC Joyner (3:34 PM)
I don't know, I didn't go to McDonalds. Rice and Martin because of the RB scarcity.
Which top D with a juicy matchup do you start, Seattle or Denver? Thanks KC!
KC Joyner (3:35 PM)
Hands down, Denver. Really like Seattle's D overall but the Chiefs may have the worst offense in the NFL right now.
mike -finals desparation (ny)
Do I start Maclin over J Blackmon this week with Vick being back?
KC Joyner (3:36 PM)
The lineup matchup says Maclin will be on the side opposite of Webster. Would start Blackmon.
You're a smart guy KC, would you start Tebow this week if you were Rex? I'd love to hear your take on Tebow as a QB. Can't be worse than Sanchez, right? Thanks!
KC Joyner (3:37 PM)
I'll be covering Tebow in today's edition of the ESPN Insider Audio Blindsided podcast (to be recorded right after this chat and posted not long after that). Tebow would be the TFS pick in that game, as for all of his weaknesses, he doesn't make many bad decisions. Sanchez does and that penchant has damaged the Jets chances.
Scoring question for you... When a player fumbles is the yardage he receives at the spot of the fumble or where the fumble is covered? See Amendola's fumble...it was a 3 yard reception but the fumble was recovered 3 yards behind line of scrimmage. What would his yardage be? Thank you for your time, our championship rests on your judgement as right now it is a 0.02 point difference.
KC Joyner (3:39 PM)
My understanding of the fumble recovery rule is if the receiver recovers the ball at a different yardage spot from where he fumbled it, his yardage is marked from where he recovered it rather than where he fumbled it. If someone else recovers the ball, that rule does not apply. Having said that, I'm only about 95 percent sure on all of the vagaries of those rules, so go with whatever the official yardage totals are.
Doesnt Big Ben need the win more..why is Kappernack ranked higher???
KC Joyner (3:40 PM)
Ben's performance can't impact his team's playoff chances. Kaepernick's can.
Pete (Troy, NY)
Following up on Blackmon, thanks for the insight, Is he a better play this weekend than Hilton or Lloyd? Thanks again.
KC Joyner (3:41 PM)
Would play either Hilton or Lloyd over Blackmon. Lloyd gets the slight edge there but both should have good games this week.
Where does TFS stand on all the Tebow stuff? Isn't he just a creation of the media?
KC Joyner (3:42 PM)
Winning a national championship in college and a wild card playoff game will get a QB some rightful attention. He's certainly overhyped but it's not as if he has zero items on his resume.
Big Ben or Kapperneck???
KC Joyner (3:42 PM)
For the multiple people asking this question, it's Kaepernick.
KC - really struggling woth jamaal charles or reggie bush this week. in a ppr league, what say you?
KC Joyner (3:44 PM)
Charles is on the road against a tough Denver D that has everything to play for. Bush's situation isn't that much more favorable but he does have a better offense around him. He'd be the pick.
Keep 2 can't be same position: Charles (1st) Stafford (2nd) Nicks (3rd)Harvin (5th) Lloyd (6th) Decker (8th) Leshoure (13th) Russell Wilson (16th) Thanks!
KC Joyner (3:45 PM)
Tough call but the price difference between Wilson and Stafford makes Wilson the better choice there. Charles is too risky to keep for a 1st round pick. Would keep Nicks, as he'll have better seasons in the future when he is healthy.
Who's your OROY? To me, Luck made the biggest difference on his team going from 2-14 to 10+ wins.
KC Joyner (3:46 PM)
Going to be covering this on that Blindsided podcast as well. It's RG3 but not by much.
Have you seen Silver Linings yet? A must see if you're a De Niro fan.
KC Joyner (3:48 PM)
Haven't yet but the commercials look great, as does Jennifer Lawrence. Just don't tell Mrs. Scientist I said that or she might not watch the movie with me.
David (Raleigh, NC)
Pick four for me, for next year between Josh Freeman, Arian Foster, Ray Rice, Knowshon Moreno, Hakeem Nicks, Cecil Shorts and Danario Alexander. Thanks.
KC Joyner (3:49 PM)
Foster and Rice because quality RBs are going to be just as hard to find next year. Nicks because he'll have a turnaround performance. Toss up between Freeman and Moreno, would probably pick Freeman depending on how many QBs are going to be available after the keeper picks are made.
Steve Smith (CAR): Justifiable Flex play over the likes of McCoy or Chris Johnson? Thanks!
KC Joyner (3:50 PM)
Could absolutely make a case for that. McCoy might get split PT and Johnson's O line is in horrible shape. That and Smith's highly favorable CB matchup are big plusses in his favor.
Up by 40 at the half. Pick 2 WR: Wayne, Maclin, LaFell. Bills D or Bengals? Gonzalez or pick up Lewis off WW?
KC Joyner (3:52 PM)
Would go with Wayne and Maclin. Bills D vs. Sanchez. Tough call at TE, would probably say Lewis if only because of PT.
Magnum T.A. (Miami)
half ppr...Championship game...come on guy....Cobb, James Jones or Ridley at flex?
KC Joyner (3:53 PM)
Have some respect or I'll get Baby Doll to hand me a roll of quarters to hit you upside the head with. They should use that foreign object more often, as the coins flying everywhere has a great look to it and makes it even more annoying that the ref didn't see it. Ridley at flex.
I'll only ask this 2nd time because I'm sure it's annoying getting bombarded by the same question over and over. 12 team league, two keepers. Richardson (late 2nd), Cobb (late 8th), Stafford (11th). Thinking of ending my relationship with Stafford but not sure if the value is too good instead of Richardson. Thanks!
KC Joyner (3:55 PM)
Thanks for staying away from the bombardment. It is appreciated. Quality RBs are going to be very hard to come by next year, so keep Richardson.
John (D Town)
KC, love your work. With Champ being voted to a 12th pro bowl, can you tell us how or if his production has fallen off? Is he still an elite cover man? Every time I watch the Broncos play it seems teams are staying away from him.
KC Joyner (3:56 PM)
It's not as if Champ has had a bad year but he's playing in a defense that has a great pass rush and is lined up opposite a CB who teams are going to be apt to target. He's nowhere near where he was in 2005 (when he had a season akin to Revis' 2009 campaign) but all in all he's played good this year. He woudn't be my pick for starting CB in the Pro Bowl but there are a lot worse picks one could make.
Championship - Down by 13, Flex STD League? - Montel Owens, S Jackson or Julio Jones?
KC Joyner (3:57 PM)
Tough call, would probably take S Jax in that one.
Pick two keepers; luck $8, spiller $9, aj green $17, doug martin $23 ($200 auction league) I can keep luck, spiller and martin for 2 more years adding $5 to thier price the following year.
KC Joyner (3:58 PM)
Luck is pick one because he'll be a top five fantasy QB very soon. Martin is pick two because of the scarcity of quality RBs.
Many thanks for all the chats and the great insight you provide on cowboysnation.com during the offseason! Have a great new year.
Pete (Troy, NY)
Happy New Year KC! Thanks for taking the time to thoughtfully answering our questions.
KC Joyner (4:00 PM)
Thanks to you and everyone else for asking such thoughtful questions! The chats are maybe the most fun part of this job and I look forward to them every week. Got to hit the road to record that podcast. Couple of quick notes. The TFS material is always posted on Twitter @KCJoynerTFS. Look for that Blindsided podcast to be posted on Twitter sometime around 5 PM ET. Thanks again for all of the questions and I hope to see you all in the postseason chats to talk some more football!
