Ohm (1:00 PM)
What's cracking everybody?
Ohm (1:03 PM)
Pete? You're still alive? I was worried about you after Clowney DESTROYED the Wolverines with the greatest hit ever. For those who didn't see it, here is it... the gift that keeps on giving:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENuZHnQlqX0
Hi Ohm..The loss of Mario Manningham hurt the Giants more than the front office let on? Also with the Eagles in flux and Skins (QB) now a big ?, looks like the Giants will be NFL east favs with Dallas at the heels.....agree..
Ohm (1:05 PM)
Man Pete, you want to name the Giants the favorites to win the division on Jan. 10! It's too early to be talking about who is going to win the division. We don't even know who is going to be on the roster, what will happen in FA and draft. LOL! They make me make predictions in April when the schedule comes out and that is too early! And somehow I get lucky every year and predict 9-to-10 wins and come close. As for Mario, yes, I do think his departure hurt. The Giants could have used him with Nicks hurt so much. But for the money they would have had to pay him, I side with the Giants passing knowing that they have to pay Cruz and Nicks.
Primo (Brooklyn, NY)
Do you think David Diehl will be on this next year? I think he's going on the same road Rich Seubert went.
Ohm (1:06 PM)
Well Primo, don't forget, Seubert suffered a catastrophic knee injury. Diehl is still healthy. But he may need to take a pay cut. We'll see. I think either way the Giants will probably give James Brewer every chance to start.
Ken (New York, NY)
Which position have the most important need for the Giants first pick in this upcoming draft?
Ohm (1:08 PM)
Ken, remember, when the Giants draft, they mostly go for talent and best available over need. But going into the draft, OL, CB, DL, LB. Of course we also have to see what happens in FA. But I would say that if there is a defensive lineman who is talented where Giants pick, that could be a likely pick.
Is there a NYG writer or blogger that specializes in Giants current cap situation, contracts, etc? I would like to see that going into offseason
Ohm (1:09 PM)
Most of the Giants writers try to provide those details but it's hard right now since season is not over and hard to know what Giants are going to exactly do with their contracts.
Whats good Ohm?! Stevie Wonder or KP? The secondary clearly plays better when KP is on the field but Stevie has a knack for the pick, what do you think the organization values more?
Ohm (1:11 PM)
Well, I think the Giants should try to bring both back but KP has to be at right price due to his injuries and knee. I do agree that when Kenny is healthy, the secondary does seem to do better as far as keeping big plays from happening a bit more but Stevie was a turnover machine. If both can come back, you can play three-safety. But for now, I'd give the slight edge to Brown because of KP's free agent status and health.
I would appreciate your comments concerning the effect, if any, of the loss of Dave Gettleman.
Ohm (1:12 PM)
Considering how much reaction came out of the Giants camp when he left last night, the Giants suffered a considerable loss. Not long after the news, the Giants send out reaction from Reese. Then came a quote from Mara and Tisch. And then Tom Coughlin. He was very well-liked and respected and played a big role with free agency.
Rivers stays but for a bargain price?
Ohm (1:13 PM)
Very possible. When he was healthy he was effective. And if Michael Boley doesn't return, they can definitely use Rivers.
Mike Greenberg's Scarf (NJ)
Do you think Sean Smith will be a good fit? Big physical corner from Miami, it looks like he'll be a free agent this year.
Ohm (1:14 PM)
When it comes to free agents, all depends on how much each guy will command. Giants don't often spend a ton in FA. But I like the idea of Giants adding a big physical corner for sure.
What are the chances that the Giants will use the franchise tag on Kenny Phillips? The value of the safety tag is pretty reasonable, and tagging KP might be in the best interest of both parties.
Ohm (1:16 PM)
Steve, good question. They didn't use their franchise tag last year. Just a guess but I think they can try to sign KP without franchise tag. Got to wonder how much he will command on the market with all the injuries and knee issue he has had in the past. But I would like to see Giants bring KP back at reasonable price.
At the end of the season, Randle was starting to become the 3rd target Eli had needed all season. If the Giants can have Nicks, Cruz and Randle as the top 3 WRs, it has to go better than this season did, right? (assuming Nicks can stay healthy)
Ohm (1:17 PM)
Absolutely ASN. They needed a third consistent threat. The numbers actually match up as far as Hixon and Manningham last season -- I was surprised when I saw that -- but the impact Manningham had was greater and Nicks was healthy. But you got to like what you saw from Randle in season finale.
What are your thoughts on Nicks? He had a down year and Cruz has outperformed him for the past 2 years. Do you think the NYG will try to keep both Nicks and Cruz or will one of them leave when his contract is up?
Ohm (1:19 PM)
I think Cruz is the priority because he is up for an extension now. I think you got to wait and see how Nicks does this coming season health-wise. I wrote a bit about his season today: http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/giants/post/_/id/21739/five-giant-issues-nicks-injuries
Lost amid the anemic pass rush and the Port of Corey Webster, the Giants couldn't stop the run this season. Where does the primary fault lie? DTs? LBs? What's the best path to fix it?
Ohm (1:21 PM)
Port of Webster... nice. Well, I think they rae all connected. A healthy Chris Canty might've helped. I am sure scheme-wise, Giants might've been able to do more. Linebackers also could've been better. And I think having Antrel Rolle down low would have helped but he was needed at times on slot receiver. Blame everywhere. Way to fix? Add some new pieces and get some of these veterans to play better.
Ken (New York, NY)
Will osi be back next season, or will the Giants have to shop to get a DE?
Ohm (1:22 PM)
The odds of an Osi return are not good. He wants to start and wants starter money. He sounds ready for a change of scenery too. I think Giants could get a veteran for affordable money on free agency but I think draft sounds more likely.
If Giants let KP go, u see Eagles or Skins going after him? That would be hard for me to swallow to see KP in NFC east against the Gmen.
Ohm (1:23 PM)
Hmm... always a possibility. But Giants can't worry about what other teams do. Remember a few summers ago, fans were all up in arms that the Eagles got everybody and Steve Smith and Jerry Reese was calm and said not to worry. And the Giants did their thing.
Ohm (1:24 PM)
Alright guys, thanks for the questions this week! See you all next week.
