Ohm (1:01 PM)
Hey guys, what's up?
Ohm (1:03 PM)
Ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! I give Petey credit and much props for showing up. I was worried about you man after 75-52. That one had to hurt! LOL.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
Do you think that Tyrann Mathis(Honey Badger) will be a Great fit for the Giants?
Ohm (1:04 PM)
Well, I hesitate to say "great fit" only because of his off the field stuff. But after interviewing him and doing due diligence, if the Giants like what they see and learn about him, I would take a chance on him. But you'd have to do extensive research and see where he's at and then measure the risk. Talent-wise, I'd like to see what the Giants could do with him.
Do you think bringing back TT (potentially as a safety) means it's less likely the Giants will try to resign Kenny Phillips?
Ohm (1:06 PM)
I don't think you should read into anything about TT's return as far as Kenny or Webster or anybody else. Terrell has a long road back and really if he does make it back onto the field -- and I wouldn't doubt him since this is his third comeback and he is as hard a worker as there is -- that should be considered a bonus.
Snooki (New Paltz, NY)
Ohm, will you be my baby's Godfather?
Ohm (1:06 PM)
For you Snooks, anything.
Snooki (New Paltz, NY)
I mean, I wanted you to be my baby's daddy... but I'll settle for Godfather
Ohm (1:07 PM)
D you think victor cruz will sign a contract extension to stay with giants ?
Ohm (1:08 PM)
I still do but it might not happen before free agency begins which means the Giants will tender him as a RFA. After that, they can continue negotiations and eventually I still believe Victor will be a Giant. But I think a contract extension might have to happen after the Giants tender him as a RFA.
Kevin C (Midtown, NYC)
Hey Ohm, what do you think Cruz is asking for in years/salary for his next contract?
Ohm (1:10 PM)
Good question Kevin. I don't know exact numbers. But he might be looking for something in $8-$10 million range per year is my guess. Look, he's had two consecutive 1,000-yard seasons and had 10 touchdowns last season and was a Pro Bowler so if I am Victor, I am definitely looking to cash in and looking at what other receivers are making.
Will (New York)
Hey Ohm enjoy your work. I hate the salary cap in the NFL. If not for the salary cap we would have no issues of keeping Cruz/Nicks long term as well as many others.
Ohm (1:11 PM)
LOL Will! All fans hate the salary cap. I hate the salary cap, always trying to figure it out. But if not for the cap, you'd see teams like the Redskins and Cowboys buying everybody, right?
Do you think the Giants will be able to re-sign Beatty, Boothe, Bennett and able to sign at least one free agent?
Ohm (1:12 PM)
Matt, I think they are trying their hardest. That is why you saw them release Boley, Canty and Bradshaw and could see them cut another high-priced veteran perhaps.
Did you get my question ?
Ohm (1:13 PM)
I got your question Curtis... somebody asked about Cruz extension before you though homie...
Do you see Webster taking a pay cut or outright getting cut? Given the Giants' cap situation, and his level of play, it is hard to see him getting 7 mil next season
Ohm (1:16 PM)
Steve, in order to take a paycut, Webster would have to restructure which I believe means adding another year to his deal or straight out renegotiating a new contract like TT did. If not, the Giants will either have to pay him that money or cut him. And here's the problem with cutting him that most are not taking into consideration. If you cut Webster, you are down to Prince and Hosley as your two main cornerbacks and not much else behind them. And you need money to re-sign Beatty, Boothe, Martellus and any other free agents you want and create cap space for upcoming draft picks and the Giants want to tender RFAs like Cruz, Stevie Brown and Andre Brown while also extending Hakeem Nicks' contract. Got all that? LOL.
Do you think Herzlich can make the jump to be a solid starting middle linebacker?
Ohm (1:17 PM)
Dave, I think we are going to find out. Even if the Giants re-sign Chase Blackburn, a free agent, I think Mark will be given a chance to compete for the job. They both competed last year but Mark wasn't quite ready. I think they do want to see whether he and Paysinger will be ready for bigger roles.
Ohm whats good home boi?Biggest needs for the Gmen this offseason? OL,DL,CB,DE - Any guess to what/who we will draft this year?
Ohm (1:19 PM)
Patrick, what up in Flo-ri-da? No idea yet who they will draft, still a long way to go. But I do think defensive lineman (DT or pass rusher), offensive line, cornerback are and should be high priorities in the draft. Gun to my head... my guess is they go with defensive lineman at 19.
Other than Wilson , what other runningback would we have ?
Ohm (1:20 PM)
The Giants are expected to bring back Andre Brown, a RFA. After that, they have Da'Rel Scott. They could also bring in a veteran running back, perhaps Kregg Lumpkin. They liked his ability to pass protect.
Cha Boy (Work )
How much Cap space will the Giants actually save if the release Webster?
Ohm (1:23 PM)
Cha Boy, I don't know the exact cap number they would save but he is due $7 million in base salary. You have to factor in his pro-rated signing bonus and any other workout bonuses he may have -- I think those are just some of the things to figure out a how much cap space saved.
Ohm (1:23 PM)
Sorry got bounced for a second there. I'm back.
Why havent' the G-Men restructured or cut Corey Webster as yet? Also, what about bring back Keith Rivers?
Ohm (1:25 PM)
KA, I explained Webster's contract earlier below. Giants also may be waiting to see what comes about in free agency. Like Diehl, if the Giants were to release Webster, you don't have much depth behind them and would need to replace them and Giants have priorities like re-signing Beatty and Boothe and Martellus. But they may need to make another move or two before free agency. As for Rivers, I can see him coming back. To me, Rivers kind of brings Boley-like qualities and they can use that.
Ohm (1:25 PM)
But for the right price...
Tim (New Haven)
NFC East question. Do you think Romo deserves a long-term deal and if so how much do you think he should get?
Ohm (1:27 PM)
Tim, I do think Romo deserves a long-term deal. As for how much, hard to tell but he probably will get paid seeing how much quarterbacks make. Look, I think Romo is a top-15 QB and fringe top-10 when he is on top of his game. But you can't cripple your roster by giving him a ton of money because Tony still has to win some big playoff games for them as well.
Lennay Kekua (Stanford, Ca.)
Hey Ohm, you wanna be my Valentine? Call me ;)
Ohm (1:28 PM)
How about I text you tonight? Is that a date?
Any free agents you've heard that the Giants will go hard after?
Ohm (1:29 PM)
Bill, not really. Giants like to keep their thinking and plans in free agency and draft pretty close to the vest. But I would say I'd be a bit surprised if they spend big money in this free agency outside of keeping their own free agents. Now, if they are unable to keep Beatty and Boothe and Bennett, then they might spend some to replace those guys or other areas.
Do you see the Giamts drafting an OT Or a LB in the first round i think thats the Giants biggest need
Ohm (1:30 PM)
Hey Ariel, kind of answered this earlier but I see defensive lineman, offensive lineman or corner. Got to see who will be available there at 19. I just don't think the Giants value LB like that to go at 19 unless the best player available at 19 is somebody who unexpectedly dropped big time there. Still, my guess is 19.
Ohm (1:31 PM)
DL at 19... sorry about that.
Alex (Long Island)
The Giants have ridden a high..winning SBx2 but all things even out..Gmen are going to be hard pressed for 8 wins..will pick LB if Ogletree there!
Ohm (1:33 PM)
I wouldn't jump to conclusions yet about 8 wins. We don't even know their roster yet. Long way to go man. As much as I tell you guys to temper expectations whenever one of you all says Giants are winning 13-14 games (like last offseason), I also have to tell you guys not to go crazy and say Giants aren't going to win 7-8 games either before their roster is complete. Let's see first and then see how schedule shakes out. They still have Eli and a core that won it all two years ago. As for Ogletree, most indications are he won't be there. But we will see.
Josh (Syracuse, NY)
If Wilson is the lead back, who will be returning kicks?
Ohm (1:34 PM)
Josh, Wilson will want to return the kickoffs but I think Giants might want to be careful with that. Even if he is the "lead back" that doesn't necessarily mean he will be seeing 20-plus carries. Remember, they should try to bring back Andre Brown and you could see both splitting carries. Coughlin likes multiple backs.
Do you think Jerry Reese is a bad cap manager. Giants never seem to have cap where teams like the eagles send big but usually have cap space
Ohm (1:35 PM)
Anthony, how many Super Bowl wins do the Eagles have since 2007? And how many has Jerry won since taking over for the Giants? Can't argue with his results.
Ohm, I realize anything can happen on draft day (Prince falling to us in 2011) so we tend to keep options open and go BPA, but are there any individual prospects that you have noticed the Giants showing interest in? Anything to take note on from the Senior Bowl or anything like that? I see us going defense: either CB, DL or LB. Are there any prospects the Giants brass have noted that they prefer in those categories?
Ohm (1:37 PM)
Josh, I would tell you if I knew. I didn't go to Senior Bowl. Will be going to Combine. But we don't get to watch them watching the draft prospects. We only get to talk to them in a press area and talk to prospects. I agree with you, I think defense like defensive line or corner or offensive lineman. I keep hearing this is a deep draft at DT.
Ohm... long time man, hope all is well. Why you been so quiet on twitter lately?
Ohm (1:38 PM)
Hey Ryan, it's the offseason. Not much going on right now, ya know? But you can hit me up on Twitter any time.
Hey Ohm, do you really think Brewer is ready to take on RT this season? Eli needs protection next year!
Ohm (1:39 PM)
Chino, not sure. We have to see. But the Giants were talking him up last camp saying that his time has come to see what he can do. Clearly they trusted Locklear and Diehl more. But this is a big offseason for Brewer. Jerry has been saying that he is a candidate to start since last year.
Alex (Long Island)
Hello...are you on delay?
Ohm (1:39 PM)
Sorry, was bounced off line earlier. I'm good now.
Josh (Syracuse, NY)
Can you predict the starting OL for next year?
Ohm (1:40 PM)
LOL! Not until the Giants are done with free agency. But if I had to absolutely guess right now, how does Beatty, Boothe, Baas, Snee and Brewer sound?
will they sign JPP and Tuck to long-term deals ???
Ohm (1:41 PM)
Might not happen this year but could happen after this season. They probably will see how Tuck plays this season but I still think they would want him back for right price. JPP, they will do what they can to lock him down.
Who should be considered the divisional favorite at this early stage?
Ohm (1:42 PM)
Really, really early for that. Very hard to say. What happens with RG3? We need to see who the Giants and Eagles and Cowboys get in free agency and draft. Long way to go.
horatio sanz (ohio)
do you buy prince as our number 1 cb? I honestly dont see it, maybe because a lot of teams have a true number 1, and he doesnt seem to measure up.
Ohm (1:44 PM)
HoSanz, honestly, I'd like to see Prince continue to ascend this season and progress. And I think that is why they really need a veteran CB. That is why I am not so quick to cut the cord with Webster. As bad as he was this past season, he can bounce back. I am not saying Webster is a lockdown corner. Never thought he was one. But he has shown he can be a solid veteran corner. Just have to get that contract number lower.
Will the Giants be able to keep Martellus Bennett?
Ohm (1:45 PM)
We have to see what other teams are willing to pay Martellus. I think the Giants want to keep him but within reason. I believe they don't value the tight end position enough to pay major bucks to keep a tight end. They let Boss walked in free agency a few years ago and kept it moving. Keep that in mind this free agency.
Cha Boy (Still at work )
I love Cruz and I would be thrilled to see the Giants resign him but if some other team comes by and offers him some outrageous amount of money (lets say 10.5 m avg a year) would you see the Gmen matching that offer or taking that other teams 1st rounder? With rookie contract the way they are now wouldn't it make more sense for the Cap strapped Giants to take a freebie first rounder on an originally unsigned wideout?
Ohm (1:47 PM)
If another team offers Cruz major bucks, I can see the Giants taking the first round pick... yes. Jerry values his first rounders. Then they would extend Nicks, get Randle ready and find another receiver for Eli to develop in the slot. They had Steve Smith, then replaced him with Cruz and they probably think that if they must do it again, they can. But with all that being said, they do love Cruz on and off the field. I just think they have a price in mind.
Tim (New Haven)
Ohm who are your top 3 favorite Giants to interview?
Ohm (1:48 PM)
Currently or past? I'll go with this past year's roster: Tuck, Martellus (funniest quotes), and probably a tie between Cruz and Rolle. Giants locker room has a lot of good dudes in the locker room.
jeff plass (UPSTATE ny)
who is wooing Osi?
Ohm (1:49 PM)
Won't know for sure until a few weeks into March.
Hey I am a Cowboys fan but realize that Coach Coughlin is one of those go do the work guys who improves those he is invovled with on his teams. When do you think people will really realize what he brings to the game?
Ohm (1:50 PM)
J... I don't know... but there have been a lot of Giants fans in this chat who have wanted to see Coughlin go before they won the second Super Bowl. I think most Giants fans are tired of the disparity between the fast starts and midseason struggles and then getting hot and going on a run.
Dating advice Ohm: Is having a first date on Valentine's Day a bad idea?
Ohm (1:53 PM)
I'm split on this one Ryan. Going on a first date on Valentines Day is creating a lot of pressure. Every date after that has to live up to a day when it is all about romance and what not. But... with that being said, the girl could be in more of a mindset to really give you a chance than say on a regular first date because it is Valentines Day and she may be intoxicated by the whole notion and atmosphere of the day. I think most would tell you to avoid a first date on Valentines Day but I say why not. Bad thing though is it will cost you more financially than say on Feb. 15. LOL.
Anthony (Paterson New Jersey)
Hey ohm, i think the giants should draft a LB and a DT in the first 2 rounds their run defense was strips and should prioritize thatand OT can be found in free agency don't you think?
Ohm (1:54 PM)
Anthony, I think they should draft a DT or DE in first round probably. I wouldn't mind an OL in either first or second round. I just really believe the Giants don't value the linebacker spot as much as say DL or OL. As for going for an OT in free agency, outside of re-signing Beatty, I don't think they are going to spend a ton in FA on a tackle. Now could they go get a Locklear type for depth and perhaps somebody who could start in case of injury, yeah, I can see that. But they do need another offensive lineman for the future eventually.
alau53 (long island)
feel bad for bradshaw..guy risks his health, ave 4.6 yds per carry, great blocker for eli, catches balls..then reese says thanx goodbye..i think jets should sign him..what you think
Ohm (1:55 PM)
Yean, that's the business of football man. Bradshaw gave his heart and soul to the team. But I think another team will sign him eventually. I'd love to see him with the Jets but they got their own cap problems.
Ohm, I think the Giants should bring back BJacobs, so...
Ohm (1:57 PM)
I won't discount it but we'll have to see. I would think that Jacobs would want to go somewhere where he can get carries. He might not get as much as he would like if the Giants go with Wilson and Brown as their two top backs.
Think Spags gets another DC gig next year or does he have to go back to a secondary coach and work his way back up?
Ohm (1:57 PM)
I would hope a DC gig.
Ohm (1:58 PM)
Alright guys, thanks for all the questions this week! See you all next week!
