Andy Katz (2:11 PM)
Here to chat before off to Charlotte
James (San Diego)
Did the first half of the LMU game for Gonzaga bring any cause for concern? How against a smaller team did Olynyk get neutralized? Can that be attributed to full week off?
Andy Katz (2:11 PM)
No. More of a situation where they checked out for a half.
Do you think LA Tech could be a team that pulls the upset in the first round this year if they make the tourney?
Andy Katz (2:12 PM)
Maybe. But the Bulldogs better win the WAC.
Tomas (Toronto )
Is Murray states season over or will they be in the cbi or cit?
Andy Katz (2:13 PM)
Murray State should be in the NIT for sure.
David (Chicago, IL)
In the ACC tournament, what are the chances that NC State or UVA beat Miami to get to the final? My money is on the Cavs. Played Miami really tough on the road, and they need more W's for their resume.
Andy Katz (2:16 PM)
I don't see it. Miami has the experience, the hunger and the best point guard in the ACC in Shane Larkin.
If Cincy loses to Providence on Wednesday, will they be knocked out of the tournament?
Andy Katz (2:16 PM)
It would give the selection committee pause. I would depend on what happens with the rest of the bubble.
Hi Andy! What do you think could keep Memphis from a good run in NCAA tourney besides bad matchup (ie slown down team that handles pressure)?
Andy Katz (2:20 PM)
Better decision making toward the end of the game. Memphis has had this as an issue at times.
Do you think Arizona has what it takes to win it all?
Andy Katz (2:23 PM)
Not this year. Arizona can win the Pac-12 tournament but the frontline has been too inconsistent. Program will be a perennial contender in the Pac-12 though from this point forward.
James Bruchman (Oxford, MS)
Do you think that if Ole Miss wins one game in their SEC tournament they will make the big dance? They got a double bye and will most likely play Missouri in the Quarterfinals, but will beating Missouri be enough?
Andy Katz (2:24 PM)
Ole Miss probably has to beat Missouri to feel somewhat secure. Lose to Mizzou and it may be hard to make the argument.
Kevin (new orleans)
how far do you think creighton can go in the tournament?
Andy Katz (2:26 PM)
Creighton has the personnel to get to the Elite Eight like Davidson did in 2008. And if that occurs then there is a chance. Kent State got to the Elite Eight and I like this team better than the Flashes. Doug McDermott can carry this squad for four games.
What dies G'town need to do to push Gonzaga off that 1 line? Would Gonzaga losing make it any easier?
Andy Katz (2:28 PM)
Yes very much so. It would also help if Georgetown won the Big East tournament as in that's a must.
Otto Porter (DC)
Am I really only 4th on your Wooden award list!? That's crazy talk.
Andy Katz (2:30 PM)
Yes. I know. I know. But I looked at the body of work and none of the above mentioned teams (three) outside of McDermott's team had a mini slump. McDermott had to do so much and was the focus of every opposing scout. But Porter had a sensational year. I have no problem if someone wants to name him the winner.
How would you feel about giving the conference tournament winner an automatic NIT bid if they didn't win the regular season championship?
Andy Katz (2:30 PM)
Actually it's the reverse. The automatic regular-season winner does get an NIT bid if they don't make the NCAAs.
Did the win over Florida lock up a bid for Kentucky? Still need to win one more?
Andy Katz (2:33 PM)
It would definitely help. I think Kentucky is in with the Florida win. But losing to Vandy or Arkansas would give the committee pause again. So it would be a good idea for the Wildcats to win the first game in Nashville.
If a few teams lose early in tournaments and USM makes a run to the Finals, can they get an at large?
Andy Katz (2:36 PM)
Don't hate me in Hattiesburg. I have cousins in Hattiesburg at USM but I don't see how USM is so close to being in the field. I don't get the resume as compared to others in a similar position.
What are your thoughts on the up and down season Minnesota has had?
Andy Katz (2:37 PM)
I would hate to be a Minnesota fan. I don't get how this team can play so erratic. The staff has continued to tell me they will turn the corner and yet they cannot. There really is no excuse.
Macy (Columbia SC)
Does Tennessee have what it takes to make it to the NCAA tournament????
Andy Katz (2:39 PM)
Yes. The Vols should be the second most beloved team in Nashville behind Kentucky. The big three of Stokes, McCrae and Golden are all playing at a high level to ensure this team can win a few games in Nashville and make the NCAAs.
jD (Bay Area)
Who wins the Horizon League?
Andy Katz (2:41 PM)
Valpo. Drew magic.
thoughts on Jim Crews as coach of year and how far do you think the billikens can go
Mike (San Jose)
Cal has come on strong with seven straight wins. What do you think of them?
Andy Katz (2:43 PM)
The Bears lost to Stanford. That loss should give everyone pause heading into the Pac-12 tournament.
If it comes down to Tennessee vs Virginia for the last bid into the tournament, how much do you think the committee would look into Virginia's head to head victory over Tennessee?
Andy Katz (2:45 PM)
Head to head doesn't matter as much. Committee has said that multiple times. The evaluation is body of work, how a team is improving, who was out, where was the game played, how they're playing now, eye test, etc.
Dom (Denver, CO)
Andy following the lobos in the past you know how hard lobo fans can be. They are freaking out everywhere due to a loss to an Air Force team that is very good at home. Should I be concerned about this team?
Andy Katz (2:46 PM)
Settle. No reason to get too worked up over a loss to a quality team on their home court on the last day of the season. UNM will be fine.
Who's already in the NCAA tourney from the pac12 without any wins in the pac12 tourney....
Andy Katz (2:47 PM)
I don't see a bubble.UCLAOregonCalColoradoArizona
It seems like Gonzaga Duke and Indiana have 1 seeds locked up...is it safe to say if either Louisville or Georgetown win the Big East tourney will get the other.....or can any other team sneak in and get a 1?
Andy Katz (2:49 PM)
Yes. Kansas has an outside shot and so does Miami if the Canes beat Duke again.
Andy do you thing UK will do ANY good in the turny if they make it??
Andy Katz (2:55 PM)
Yes. This is a scrappy group that I wouldn't be surprised to see cause trouble in a potential 8-9 game and then against a No. 1 or a 7-10 game against a 2.
john (st louis)
Jim Crews for coach of the year, and how far can the billikens go?
Andy Katz (2:56 PM)
Crews has done a fantastic job under extraordinary circumstances. He should be the runaway winner for A-10 coach of the year and a candidate for national honors. I hope he wants and gets a long-term offer from SLU.
Andy Katz (2:56 PM)
Thanks for the questions.Tune into the Experts at 1 p.m. EST on ESPNU Tuesday and then at a new time for this week only at 3 p.m. Tuesday for Katz Korner on ESPNU with Bruce Weber, John Calipari, Mike Brey, Shaka Smart and possibly Jay Wright and more. Thanks again.
