Farrell Evans (3:00 PM)
Let's get started. There are lot of good players in New Orleans.
Farrell, I got to think that if Tiger's shot didn't hit the flagstick on 15 that he would be wearing the green jacket. It took what would have been a 5 at worst and then adding in the subsequent penalty became a snowman. Even though he finished more than 3 shots back, it changed everything. Agree or not?
Farrell Evans (3:01 PM)
Robb,That's easy to say, but Tiger had a good chance to win on Sunday if he had played better on the front nine.

How do guys like John Daly and David Duval keep getting in tournaments isnt there enough young talent out there deserving a chance
Farrell Evans (3:04 PM)
Daly and Duval are major champions and veterans. They will get into a certain number of events until they decide to quit or graduate to the Champions Tour.
What are your thoughts on Merion, and the direction their taking with the set up of the course.
Farrell Evans (3:06 PM)
Merion is not a big modern golf course that you can hit the ball all over the place. It's a miniature world with a lot of rough and small greens. The USGA doing what it has to do to give the course a chance against today's golf ball and big-headed driver.
You think Rory is still headed in the right direction or did he takes steps back after the Masters.
Farrell Evans (3:11 PM)
I think with or without the club change and the pressure of being No. 1, Rory is a streaky player. I don't think he will ever go an entire season without a slump. But to your question, I think he is ready to win real soon.
With Tiger skipping QH is there any rumbles that he might be injured?
Farrell Evans (3:13 PM)
No rumblings about injuries. It's surprising. I guess he didn't want to play two in a row. There was never any chance that he was going to drop out of the Players. The tour might get mad enough to fine him if he tried to do that.
How many more years do you think Fluff has in him??
Farrell Evans (3:15 PM)
Fluff is in his mid-60s. There aren't many guys his age still toting a heavy golf bag across the world. But he loves it!
Your thoughts on Davis Love III....over under 1 more PGA Tour win?
Farrell Evans (3:20 PM)
Chad,Davis still has wonderful tempo and his experience and knowledge of the tour venues is almost unmatched on tour. But he's had this pretty serious injury and it's tough for a guy almost 50 to play with these young kids. But I could see him on any given week pulling it together to win won more tournament before he stops playing full time.
Bill (Lynn MA)
Can Dufner get it on track and defend his title this week?
Farrell Evans (3:23 PM)
Dufner needs a good tournament. He played a bunch at the beginning of the year abroad and he's been floundering a bit on the PGA Tour. He played well early in the Masters then backed off pretty quick. NOLA was the start of a great run for him last year. He likes the golf course. Good things should happen for him.
Keith H (Seattle)
I would think between the food and the activities New Orleans would draw pretty well but it always seems to be a struggle. Can you give us any insights why?
Farrell Evans (3:25 PM)
Most of the top players are going to play Charlotte and the Players on back-to-back weeks. They aren't going to play three in a row. So NOLA gets left out.
Cmon Farrell....you gotta defend yourself (or admit you're wrong) on the Nicklaus-Woods thing. You stated something along the lines of "Tiger wins every time" if he and Jack were, at the top of their games and with equipment equal, to play each other. That answer to me just reeks of a guy who never saw Jack play and is answering based on what his generation sees. Some of us have seen both in their prime and KNOW that were the 2 to clash, it would be epic battles with Jack winning at least half the time. To claim otherwise is ridiculous.
Farrell Evans (3:26 PM)
RJ,With the same ball and clubs, Tiger beats Jack 5 out of 10 times. I have talked to enough players and seen enough tape to know how good Jack was, but it doesn't compare with Tiger's highlight reel.
I asked this to MC on Monday, what are the concerns on player safety? It is the only sport without a wall or distance between the players and fans at times!
Farrell Evans (3:28 PM)
Chris,The top players like Rory, Tiger and Phil have armed security on the course. But if a guy or girl wanted to attack a player on the course it's pretty easy.
RJ is a dope... if they played with the old equipment Tiger would be at 20 majors already because talent would definitely win out
Farrell Evans (3:29 PM)
Chris,I tried to tell him. We can love Jack but know that his prime was not as good as Tiger's.
If there was a 2-man scramble next week at Augusta National, who would you take as your partner: David Duval, Stacy Lewis, or Tianlang Guan?
Farrell Evans (3:31 PM)
David Duval. He can't play at an elite level anymore, but he's still better than Lewis or Guan.
Given all the wacky weather this year nation wide, are any tournaments down the line in trouble or facing major damage?
Farrell Evans (3:33 PM)
I'm not sure. There are always tropical storms in the summer that impact many parts of the country.
On what possible criteria can you try to make the statement "we...know that his prime was not as good as Tiger's". You guys can have your Tiger lovefest all you want, but when you can't make 14 greater than 18, your bias is all that shows.
Farrell Evans (3:34 PM)
RJ,18 is more than 14. Can't take that away from Jack. But they played in different eras. So your angst at us is justified, perhaps.
RJ if you SAW both play how can you deny Tiger is the more talented golfer?
Regarding Tiger v Jack. You said "was" refering to Tigers prime being past tense. Tiger disagrees, what do you really think?
Farrell Evans (3:35 PM)
Tiger's prime has passed. What he's in now is some kind of second prime but it's not THE prime. That's gone for good.
Of course, RJ's a dope cuz "we love Tiger". Completely logical. When you convince me that 14 is better than 18, i'll listen. But no logic there, Chris...none at all. I'm guessing Chris is 14 and only knows Nicklaus from reading old sports almanacs.
Tiger, over/under 19 majors and 93 total wins?
Farrell Evans (3:36 PM)
20 majors and 100 wins.
5 out of 10 times? That's easy to agree with. That's not what you said originally though: "Tiger wins every time." Big difference. And how does 18 majors not compare to 14?
Farrell Evans (3:37 PM)
Ok. Put it this way. Jack has to play his very best to beat Tiger. Tiger could beat Jack with his B game if he is putting well.
Tom (Verona, WI)
Sneds barely made the two cuts before tying for 59th this past weekend. What is he working on?
Farrell Evans (3:39 PM)
I just think he is a little out of sync right now after the injury. But haven't you forgotten his performance at the Masters? He almost won the tournament.
Chris...how old are you? Did you see Jack play? What i said was the 2 of these guys would have epic battles and i'd expect a pretty even mix of winners between the 2. I haven't stated who is more talented because who cares who is more talented? If you want to say Tiger is more talented, fine. I care about who is the best golfer and it's a tough question between those 2. To say it's an open-and-shut case, Tiger is better, is simply ludicrous. If golf is about talent, let's quit holding tournaments and give the trophy to whoever the most talented guy is. That's not what golf is about....golf is about performing; and both guys did that better than anyone in history.
Mount Rushmore of golf - who are they to you?
Farrell Evans (3:40 PM)
Bobby Jones, Ben Hogan, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Tiger Woods.
Farrell you say 100 wins would that be more impressive then 20 majors or just beating the 18 with 19 majors?
Farrell Evans (3:41 PM)
The major total is more impressive. Tiger needs 23 more wins to get to 100. He's 37. You don't think he's gone to win on average 3 tournaments for the next 7 years?
if you could suggest an upgrade to 1 club in amatures bag, what club would you suggest?
Farrell Evans (3:42 PM)
Hybrids, Hybrids, Hybrids. And your irons should start at 7 iron.
You almost can't start the Tiger v Jack comparison until Tiger is done playing...
Farrell Evans (3:43 PM)
That's not true. We can compare them at certain intervals in their careers.
Haha cannot wait for RJ's reply to that one!
has jesper parnevik started back playing golf?
Farrell Evans (3:44 PM)
Jesper has been some events this season. He looks like the old Jesper, sans the hat and the top 10s.
Why does Brandel Chamblee dislike Tiger so much? It he related to RJ?! Totally kidding RJ and I am 10...
Farrell Evans (3:45 PM)
Brandel is paid to have an opinion. He's an analyst. That's his job.
Poulter is tweeting that the greens at QH are in terrible shape and he might WD. Any truth to this?
Farrell Evans (3:45 PM)
Perhaps that explains why Tiger is not playing.
Not to beat a dead Tiger, but... it seems inexplicable/fishy to me why his drop was originally ruled to be ok as the video replay CLEARLY showed the drop to be behind his ball mark. Did they totally botch the call, or were they being EXTRA lenient with TW and had their hand forced after Tiger's post-round interview?
Farrell Evans (3:47 PM)
Agree with the comparison for certain intervals but right now the debate on this chat is Tiger's 14 majors at 37 years old compared to Jack's 18 majors at 46 years old. Doesn't seem like a fair fight that's all I'm saying...
Farrell Evans (3:47 PM)
No. We should compare them at 37. Nicklaus still had a few more majors in him at this point.
I'm just amazed that someone who admits to never really seeing Nicklaus plays in the next breath can say "but we all know that Tiger's prime was better than Jack's prime". Absolutely illogical.
Do you feel there is a hangover effect after the Masters? Has any consideration ever been given to having a dead week after a major?
Farrell Evans (3:49 PM)
God yes! The tour should have taken a week to let the players relax after the emotional drain of the Masters.
This last stretch of tournaments Hunter Mahan has looked like a weekend hacker. Any problems going on behind the scenes with him?
Farrell Evans (3:50 PM)
Hunter is in great shape. Golf is hard. I know he's always working with his teacher, Sean Foley, to make the little tweaks to better his game.
Not to beat a dead Tiger, but... it seems inexplicable/fishy to me why his drop was originally ruled to be ok as the video replay CLEARLY showed the drop to be behind ball mark. Did they totally botch the call, or were they being VERY lenient with TW and had to come clean after Tiger's post-round interview?
Perhaps you all should be clearer as to what you're comparing: who's had the better career, or who you would take for one single round at any time in history, or any interval of time in between. I'll take Jack's career and 2000 Tiger for one round. In fact, you could probably make arguments for a few different golfers to take, for one single round, over any version of Jack. Not so over Tiger.
How concerning is it that they are doing emergency repairs on greens roughtly 9 days before the tournament begins.
Farrell Evans (3:52 PM)
The greens will be fine come next Monday. But they have never been perfect to begin with.
If memory serves, Nicklaus had 17 majors at age 40 (he won in 80 and didn't win his last til 86). So yes, if Tiger wins 3 more majors in the next 3 years, he's on Nicklaus-pace.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
Where is the Hottest PGA Tour Event that is held at Each Year?
Farrell Evans (3:53 PM)
It's hot everywhere in August.
At age 37 Tiger and Jack both had 14. Jack won 15 when he was 38 across the pond...
Michael H (OK)
Why is Spencer Levin not playing this year? Is he injured?
Farrell Evans (3:55 PM)
Spencer had a hand injury. I hung out with him during the Masters. He was down there with his sponsor, Izod, having a ball. He took off the whole year. He will have some rehab starts on the Web.Com. Then play a few late in the city. And next year, he will play 28 events, minimum.
Wait so if Tiger wins #18 to tie Jack at 47 that means Jack was better? Ahh gotta love sports!
how may majors does Adam Scott have in him? Is is window closing because of the proposed anchor ban?
Farrell Evans (3:57 PM)
He will win at least three majors.
As the final word on the Tiger/Jack debate: transport Bobby Jones to this era where he'd have to be a professional, give him modern equipment, and he spanks both of them up and down the course.
Farrell Evans (4:00 PM)
Andrew. i think you are right. Bobby was a great player for any generation with the equipment he had to use.
Farrell Evans (4:01 PM)
My time is up. It's always a pleasure to talk golf. Get out and play and stay tuned to espn.com/golf for all your tournament coverage and analysis.
