I've enjoyed doing my QB big board and rankings. I spent about six weeks studying film and I'm very proud of them.
Have always enjoyed your analysis of the QB position. But Flacco over Brees seems off to me.
Ron Jaworski (11:07 AM)
Certainly anyone is entitled to their own opinion. Flacco was clutch down the stretch last year, made the right play at the right time. Brees is an elite QB as he's shown in the past but last season Flacco came up huge.
How long did it take you to break down all of the tape and put your rankings together?
Ron Jaworski (11:09 AM)
Carl, it took me about six weeks. With that said, I've been studying QBs since retiring. I look at mostly every throw by these QBs. It takes me about eight hours for each QB. I look at everything from interception reels to red zone reels and everything in between.
Louis (Newark, NJ)
Hey Ron. I have a problem with your ranking of Eli Manning in your QB rankings. 2 Time SB Champion and SB MVP you have Matt Ryan (1 playoff win) ranked ahead of him. I know you hate Eli Manning and the Giants. Take off the Eagles pajamas for once and be objective.
Ron Jaworski (11:11 AM)
I love Eli. Championships are a high priority to me in rating QBs and Eli has two of them. All these top 10 QBs are great, including Eli who is a tremendous talent. But I think Eli tried to do too much and made some bad decisions. I don't think he played up to the skill that he had shown in the past. Again, I love Eli Manning and I think No. 8 is a significant rating.
Do you see Jay Cutler having a big year under the new offense? And will it be enough for the Bears to match all the other big NFC North QB contracts?
Ron Jaworski (11:14 AM)
I think Cutler will be an interesting watch this year. Bears coach Marc Trestman is a very detailed coach and I don't think Cutler has been a detailed QB over the years. Cutler will have to buy into how this offense will be run. Cutler has top 10 talent but that talent doesn't match his production. He has too many breakdowns in his mechanics. I need to see him have 15-16 rock solid games.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
Who do you think will be the Best Rookie Quarterback of 2013?
Ron Jaworski (11:15 AM)
Wow! That's a very interesting projection. I did not see any of these young QB as a guy that can step in and play extremely well like the five guys did in 2012. Though, I've always liked Geno Smith so I'm going to go with him. I think he will end up having the biggest year of all rookie QBs.
Rich (New Jersey)
Hi Ron, 7 teams with new head coaches in 2013 including Andy Reid going from the Eagles to the Chiefs and Chip Kelly at Philadelphia. Will any of these first year head coaches get their teams into the playoffs this year?
Ron Jaworski (11:17 AM)
It's very difficult to do that. The reason a team gets a new coach is because the team didn't fare well the season and/or seasons prior. Andy Reid is a turnaround guy, just look what he did in Philly. KC has a good squad and I think they have the best shot of making the postseason. For one, they have a good coach in Andy and two, they have the talent. Talent that hasn't played up to their ability in the past couple of seasons but that will change with Andy running the show.
Jaws, I enjoyed your QB reviews. Now that RG 3 is cleared to go - do you think he has the most upside of the new starters last year (Kap, Wilson and Tannehill)
Ron Jaworski (11:19 AM)
No, I still think Andrew Luck has the biggest upside. I'm a huge RG III fan, but the system Luck is a more advance system than the one RG III is in. The Colts system is more of a passing attack, versus the Redskins ground game dominate system. Although, the Redskins are looking to add more to their system this year.
Hi Ron, 2012 was very good to starting rookie quarterbacks. Which of them, if any, do you think might hit that dreaded sophomore slump?
Ron Jaworski (11:22 AM)
None of them. I was very impressed with all five rookie QBs last season. I saw so many things that showed me they won't slip this season. I was really impressed with the play of Tannehill and Weeden, the two guys that you didn't hear much about because they didn't make the playoffs. Through film and analyst, all of these guys made me think that they won't slump this season.
Martin (New York, NY)
Jaws - have you ever considered doing rankings beyond just QB's?
Ron Jaworski (11:23 AM)
Martin, no I haven't. The time it takes to study just one position prevents me from doing other positions. It takes me about a day to review just one QB.
Do you feel Sam Bradford makes a leap this year, now that they have given him some protection and receivers?
Ron Jaworski (11:25 AM)
Of course. I'm a huge Bradford guy. He has a tremendous amount of talent. As a QB, you depend on others to help you and now he has that. He has the protection so he won't be as beat up as he's been in years past. He also has receiving talent around him. Bradford has the ability to be a top 10 QB now with all the upgrades the Rams have put around him. Now he just has to prove me right.
Scott (Northglenn, CO)
Better QB - Elway or Peyton?
Ron Jaworski (11:27 AM)
LOL Oh, man. Elway is a HOF QB and one of the greatest of all time. I think it is premature to evaluate Peyton before he retires. I defer my answer until Peyton retires.
In three years who will be the best team in NFC West? Will it most likely be best division in football?
Ron Jaworski (11:30 AM)
It might be the best division in football fight now. The 49ers and Seahawks have trememdous young QBs. The Rams and Cardinals are coming along. One guy that has really impressed me is Kaepernick, his upside is tremendous. I think he can one day me mentioned among the all-time great 49er QBs. In that division he'll see great teams every week and that will only make him better.
Ron Jaworski (11:31 AM)
Thanks everyone for the great questions. It's been fun. Hope you enjoyed my rankings!
