Christopher Harris (3:02 PM)
Hi, everyone. Welcome to your Wednesday afternoon chat. Follow me @CHarrisESPN, and if you haven't heard, I've got a couple novels out. One is about football (www.slotbackrhapsody.com) and the other is a detective noir mystery (www.thebigclear.com). Let's get to your questions.......
If you own mccoy do you trade moreno for brown. I know i should but i think moreno manages to hold onto the job.
Christopher Harris (3:03 PM)
Hi, George. But even if he does, you have to ask yourself if he'd ever be a solo back by himself, without injury to Ball and/or Hillman. I think you should cover yourself. Even if Moreno goes a little nutty (for him), you'll still be smart to have your McCoy covered.
By week 8, what will split percentage of carries be between Gio and BJGE?
Christopher Harris (3:04 PM)
Hi, Dan. Well, I'm just back from the future, and I can report......... Just kidding. The DeLorean is in the shop. I really don't know. I think Green-Ellis stays involved no matter what...this isn't a season where I expect Bernard to take over without a Law Firm injury. I expect 50-50-ish....
Dirt Migert (NJ)
How do are you feeling if Bilal Powell is your rb3 in a 12 team league?
Christopher Harris (3:05 PM)
Like I need a different RB3? Listen, it's not horrible, especially if your first two guys are good. But if I have to start Powell, I have to assume I'm not getting a whole lot from him.... That said, in most 12-team leagues, there probably isn't anyone on the waiver wire who's no-doubt better.
James (A Giant Peach)
Chris, you and I are BOTH "in the tank" for Dez Bryant but he hasn't played well with lower body injuries in the past. Your ranking seems to have no fear... why?
Christopher Harris (3:07 PM)
Hi, James. If the foot injury winds up being a big deal, the rank is wrong. I guess my response to his history of playing with injuries is that history came when he was pretty much a "dog" even when healthy. My concerns for Dez run more toward Romo's Week 1 unwillingness to throw it when there was safety help -- but I think that goes away as soon as this week....
The Kid (Rochester)
With brady basically down to thompkins and edelman despite what we saw from thompkins in week 1 isn't it kind of hard for him to not do well here?
Christopher Harris (3:08 PM)
I think you're right at least in terms of opportunities, Kid. It was pretty ugly in Week 1, though, and Aaron Dobson supposedly may be active for tomorrow night's game. I don't think a big, productive week is Thompkins' birthright here in Week 2, but I did rank him WR36, which is pretty high considering how awful he was Sunday.
Wotan (The Rhine)
Hey Christopher,Thoughts on Jordan Cameron moving forward? With Gordon coming back next week could this open things up even more? Thanks!
Christopher Harris (3:09 PM)
Hi, Wotan. I'm always skeptical of the argument that one player "automatically" opens up the field for someone else. You could just as easily argue that Gordon will take some of Cameron's targets away. I think a fully functioning offense tends to be good for everyone on the whole, but week to week you can get a bit more variability in terms of usage....
You are extremely low on Jordan Cameron. I've been reading so much about the upside of Cameron that I can't find anything bad about him other than Weeden is delivering the ball.
Christopher Harris (3:11 PM)
Hi, Joe. I think you're mischaracterizing my rank. He's 11 among TEs. He's fine. He played really well against the Dolphins. But putting him ahead of Greg Olsen seems entirely over-reacting -- Olsen himself had a very nice performance against a rugged SEA defense. And if I'm choosing which breakout guys to believe in between Cook, J. Thomas and Cameron, Cameron is third for now, indeed, because of his QB. But I don't hate him, clearly... I just don't tend to flop my positions on guys 180 degrees based on one game.
David Wilson owner (Edge of Cliff)
CH, give me some good news, please? Most people have a big investment and don't wanna sell for .50 on $1.
Christopher Harris (3:12 PM)
Yeah, there's really no news. The only piece of hope we have is that there's no other viable starting rusher on the NYG roster. Da'Rel Scott is straight-ahead fast, but not shifty. Brandon Jacobs *could* be a drain, but he's looked very slow the past couple years. I ranked Wilson RB24 this week, compared to RB12 last week, so I obviously have concern. But it's tough not to start him....
Stevan Ridley (NE)
What happens if I can't stop fumbling? Who do you think is next in line for work?
Christopher Harris (3:14 PM)
I have no bloody idea. I guess if Week 1 is any indication, it'd be Blount. Maybe that'll happen. But it sounds like Brandon Bolden has a chance to get his knee right soon. For now I'll say Blount. But Ridley has to have more rope even than Wilson, maybe.
different type of fantasy - elimination pool - would you feel better taking Chicago over Minnesota or Cinci over the Steelers this week?
Christopher Harris (3:14 PM)
Hi, Todd. Of those options, I'll go with the Bears. I'm doing a video breakdown of their refashioned o-line this afternoon, which will air on .com tomorrow. I think you'll enjoy it.
Love the Fantasy Underground! What's your take on the Arian Foster situation? Does this become a true timeshare or will Foster slowley take back the bulk of the workload? Should I consider dealing him now or wait on it? Thanks for your time Chris!
Christopher Harris (3:15 PM)
Hi, Pete. Thanks for the kind words. I think you're locked in. First of all, the news is so middling on him, that you're not going to get fair value for him in a trade. Plus, I just think he's a better player, and a *great* goal-line back. I believe. I'm not panicking yet. It's a long season.
Sit tight on Lamar Miller or look to sell...low? Not happy that I spent $19 on him.
Christopher Harris (3:16 PM)
Hi, Kavika. Yeah, while I endorsed taking the risk on Foster, I wasn't a "Miller guy" this summer. That said, you can't sell low on a player after one week. you just can't.
Speaking of Josh Gordon, will he be fantasy relevant upon his return?
Christopher Harris (3:16 PM)
Hi, Clark. Absolutely he will. He'll at least be a WR3 for me next week, even with Weeden. Good player, reminds me some of Brandon Marshall.
With the news that LeVeon Bell is out another month. Would you drop him if you have no RB depth? Options on the wire are thin...Hunter, Tolbert, etc.
Christopher Harris (3:17 PM)
Hi, Chris. Yeah, it's a rock and a hard place, right? Unfortunately, you just don't have any good options on the waiver wire, and if Bell winds up coming back sooner rather than later, you're going to feel bad about dumping him. Unless a better waiver option crops up, I think you're pot-committed on him.
Outlook for Ahmad Bradhsaw? He was my big sleeper this year
Christopher Harris (3:18 PM)
Hi, Brice. I don't think you should give up on your Bradshaw idea just yet...when he's healthy and in shape, he's a vastly superior player to Vick Ballard, and that will show if he can get right here in the next few weeks. I definitely don't mind benching him. But I wouldn't drop him.
Josh Gordon or Golden Tate? ROS
Christopher Harris (3:19 PM)
Hi, Steve. They're close. I think at this exact moment I'm going to give you Gordon because I believe he'll severely out-target Tate. But this is the first week I can remember where Tate and Sidney Rice are both healthy, and I ranked Tate higher. I just believe in him more, based on what I saw on tape in Week 1.
What is the outlook for Chris Ivory? When is he going to start?
Christopher Harris (3:21 PM)
Hi, Christian. Well, I think missing most of camp hurt. Bilal Powell is one of those solid people who shows up every day, gets you what's blocked, doesn't wow you, but also reduces the worry at a worrisome position. Ivory has much more talent, but much less consistency. I *think* Ivory takes over the bigger side of the job in the next game or two, but I don't think Powell is going away. And neither seems all that startable to me in any league right now....
Nate O (Philly)
Steelers D a confident every week start even with the brutal offense to support it? Thanks Chris!
Christopher Harris (3:22 PM)
Hi, Nate. My old saw about fantasy defenses is that we really don't know much about them when the season starts, and we only learn gradually through the early part of the season. I'd stick with them. I don't think it's written in stone that the Steelers will be terrible every week on offense, and they have playmakers on that defense. I still rated them No. 10 this week.
Edelman for Wallace? PPR. Thanks Chris!
Christopher Harris (3:23 PM)
Hi, Spencer. I'll use this question as a way to dip into Edelman. First of all, to hear an in-depth conversation about the NE receivers *and* Mike Wallace, listen to Tuesday's Fantasy Underground podcast. I would want to get Wallace in this deal. I know his value is somewhat reduced in a PPR, but he's still one of the fastest players in the league, and he's going to win you a few weeks throughout the season.
H Nicks or E Decker to bounce back after not much love week 1?
Christopher Harris (3:26 PM)
Hi, BP. Well, Nicks played well. Cruz stole headlines with all the TDs, but Nicks made a few big plays, and that made me feel pretty good about him. Decker obviously had a disastrous Week 1, with drops and mental errors, but we've seen him play so well so recently that I have to believe he'll still at minimum be a WR3...
Do you think Kendall Wright will ever become the #2 RC in Tennessee? He hardly played on Sunday!
Christopher Harris (3:28 PM)
Hi, Eric. I do think it will happen. Wright battled an injury in camp and fell behind for the second straight year, which is a pain. The larger point, however, might simply be that *no* TEN WR looks all that good for fantasy. As disappointing as Wright was, how about Kenny Britt, their purported No. 1? Locker was rough in the game, despite the win.
Do you think Trent Richardson will bounce back this week?
Christopher Harris (3:29 PM)
Hi, JJ. I thought T-Rich looked strong on that first drive last week, and after that I couldn't understand why the Browns went away from him. I was just talking with Keith Lipscomb at the ESPN Cafeteria, and he was at the game and pointed out a key sequence near the MIA goal line where T-Rich wasn't even on the field for three straight plays. I have to believe the Browns realize who their best offensive player is.
Can you offer some exposition as to why you're so confident in Lacy over Ridley this week?
Christopher Harris (3:31 PM)
Hi, DL. Well, I definitely liked what I saw (other than a fumble) from Lacy in limited action in an awful matchup on the road against maybe the best run defense in the NFL. It was a good start. And there really aren't any other good options in GB, so I think Lacy has a fair amount of in-game rope. Meanwhile, Ridley's problems are manifest...I mean, can I imagine a scenario where he doesn't start tomorrow night? Can't you? I'm not saying it would be dumb to put your trust in Ridley. But amazingly, Lacy for one week seems like the less risky play. (That will no doubt chance the moment it becomes clear that Ridley has re-won that job.)
Kenny Britt (TEN, NFL )
Had a bad game, this is true...so is Marlon Brown WR Balt. a better WR ROS?
Christopher Harris (3:32 PM)
I don't think I'm dropping Britt for Brown, even though they're close to each other in my Week 2 ranks. (They're 50 and 51.) I've seen Britt be very productive in short bursts -- Brown is entering his second career game. I would much rather start neither, of course. But the guy with the "bench upside" is probably still Britt.
do i start Edelman over roddy white this week?
Christopher Harris (3:34 PM)
Hi, Andy. I actually didn't rank White among my top 50 WRs this week, because i was trying to put myself in the shoes of someone who has to start him, knowing he's a tough hombre and almost certainly won't be inactive. I just don't want to do it. He admitted he was a decoy playing limited snaps in Week 1, and on one play in the end zone, it just looked like he couldn't cut at all. I think you start Edelman just for the safety of it....
Vincent Brown (San Diego)
I was hyped as a possible #1 here. Is my value better than Blackmon beginning, lets say, week 6?
Christopher Harris (3:35 PM)
I'm going to say no. Brown wasn't all that involved in Week 1, but of course, it was just one game. Plus as questionable as Philip Rivers can be, he's better than both JAC options. That said, Blackmon's strong run toward the end of last year has me interested. I'm concerned there isn't enough work for any WR in SD to have much weekly consistency.
John (Cincinnati )
What do you think about MJD in the future? Will he bounce back?
Christopher Harris (3:37 PM)
Hi, John from Cincinnati. As with a lot of players, I think after one (poor) game, you're pretty much pot-committed. You can't drop him, and you can't get fair value for him. He should have more run to room against the Raiders than he did last week...but if he doesn't, yeah, that would be kind of bad.
Hey Chris. What are your thoughts on Miles Austin this year (ROY)? Had a decent amount of targets week 1 and Dez is already popping up on the injury report. Thanks!
Christopher Harris (3:38 PM)
Hi, Dan. It's funny, I didn't rank Austin particularly highly headed into Week 1, but I did all kinds of video and radio where I talked about how I thought probably I wasn't enthused enough about him. As I said earlier, I think Romo needs to take more chances throwing different kinds of routes to Dez, because defenses win when Bryant isn't involved. But yeah, I think Austin is a borderline top-30 fantasy WR right now.
Thoughts on Julius Thomas? You have yet to talk about him. 1 week boom or long term starter?
Christopher Harris (3:39 PM)
Hi, Zack. Actually, I've talked about him a whole lot on my podcast, the Fantasy Underground -- in fact, I recommended adding him and starting him in deeper leagues in Week 1. Yeah, I mean, I'm a believer in the skills, as I've said a couple times on the podcast...I think the issue is going to be up-and-down workload. Some games, he'll be really involved, I worry that others he might now. But he's in the mix of being an every-week fantasy starter...he's No. 10 on my list for Week 2.
Whats your take on Spiller and his situation with Fred Jackson? and if he will have the season he is hyped up to have?
Christopher Harris (3:41 PM)
Hi, DeSean. Jackson looked pretty good, there's no question. But he's also 32 and has had each of the past two seasons ended by serious leg injuries. I think Spiller is still the man to own, and still the man who'll eventually make you some home-run type plays. I think the Panthers' front 7 is quite strong, so Sunday is a hard matchup for him (and accordingly he's RB12 on my list). But I don't think Jackson will be enough of a drain to really crush Spiller.
Would you drop Sudfeld for either Celek, Bennett or Winslow? I have Sudfeld starting right now and have Gronk on my bench
Christopher Harris (3:42 PM)
Hi, Alex. Yeah, I think I would drop Sudfeld. Chance he plays tomorrow, from what I understand, but it's no sure thing. The larger point is how uninvolved he was in the game plan. That was a pretty big surprise to me. I don't rule out the possibility he bounces back, but I wouldn't want to have to rely on it. (Plus Gronk isn't that far away...)
How will Pead affect D. Richarson's value? Do you expect him to make an impact? PPR
Christopher Harris (3:43 PM)
Hi, Wes. Pead will play. There probably wasn't a genuine backup RB in that game Week 1. But I do think Pead has a lot to prove. He's never proven to be as instinctive or elusive as Richardson has. At least until I see a week where Pead really eats into the workload, I'm going to continue to ride Richardson.
Hi Chris, is Julian Edelman a solid sell high candidate right now? Would you trade him for someone like Eddie Lacy today?
Christopher Harris (3:43 PM)
Hi, Thomas. Provided you don't need to use Edelman in the short term, absolutely, that's a trade I'd do in a heartbeat.
Eric (Los Angeles)
I feel like the Ravens D is going to have a bounce back week against the Browns. Are they really as bad as they looked week 1? and are they still a week to week start for the rest of the year?
Christopher Harris (3:47 PM)
Hi, Eric. I had them as a borderline week-to-week bunch headed into the season, but you're right: That was never going to be a good situation to use them Week 1 in Denver. I think it's fair to expect a bounce-back. The Browns offense...meh...not great.
Mario D (NYC)
James Jones owner here....do I hit the panic button yet?
Christopher Harris (3:49 PM)
Hi, Mario. Not yet. I'd be hard pressed to push the panic button on *anyone* after one week. That was an unfortunate performance, but I'll chalk it up to the Eric Decker usage problem...there are a lot of weapons in GB, and some weeks, Jordy Nelson is just going to be hot. I don't mind if you want to bench him, but definitely don't cut him.
Joey (Long Island)
What is your opinion on Mike Wallace and Antonio Brown? Do you think these guys are legit top 20 WR's this year? Thanks!
Christopher Harris (3:50 PM)
Hi, Joey. I don't believe I had either of them in my top 20 to start the year, but both were in the mid-20s, and I'm going to keep them there. Wallace going against Joe Haden was a problem in Week 1, but I think the larger point is that (a) he was wide open for a 60-yard TD and Ryan Tannehill missed him; and (b) you know he's feast-or-famine...there's going to be the occasional famine....
Jerry (New York)
James Jones = Kyle Rudolph
Christopher Harris (3:52 PM)
Hi, Jerry. I don't agree...Rudolph has an awful QB and limited "freak-factor"...Jones doesn't need to be a freak as an outside receiver, and has a great QB. I agree that a repeat of 14 TDs was never going to happen. But I think there will be brighter days ahead, and soon.
Christopher Harris (3:53 PM)
All right gang, I'm going to get to a few more, and then I've got to go film some stuff for tomorrow. Remember, you can follow me @CHarrisESPN. But the larger point is: single-position questions have their answers here: http://espn.go.com/fantasy/football/story/_/page/13ranksWeek2RB/fantasy-football-week-2-running-back-rankings
Is Alfred Morris the next Olandis Gary of Shannhans offense? Where he comes from nowhere and then fizzles out before we can blink?
Christopher Harris (3:54 PM)
Hi, Brice. The thought did occur to me in the first quarter Monday night! The ball-handling problems were awful. But fortunately, he didn't pull a Ridley or Wilson. Didn't get yanked. I think that starts to indicate how committed the Shannies feel to him.
Taylor (Fort Worth)
After Edelman, should i be targeting Marlon Brown or Doug Baldwin off of waivers? I feel that Baldwin has better talent throwing to him. Thanks for the advice!
Christopher Harris (3:55 PM)
Hi, Taylor. I'm fine with either as bench fodder. They're different: Baldwin is a short-catch, third-down kind of guy, while Brown is a 6-foot-5 rookie with not much speed but good red-zone potential. I don't expect either to be a fantasy starter on a regular basis, and I think Brown's upside is probably higher. But in a PPR, Baldwin probably has more value.
I have Witten and Julius Thomas. Sell high on Thomas?
Christopher Harris (3:56 PM)
Hi, Dyland. Sure. Not a bad plan. You're not going to be able to start him....
Who gets the most carries for the Steelers until Bell returns?
Christopher Harris (3:56 PM)
Hi, Jimmy. This week, it sounds like Redman again, though I guess the Steelers don't have a ton of motivation to be fully forthcoming. It's a situation you don't want any part of if you can avoid it....
So you don't think Helu will start to get more carries?
Christopher Harris (3:57 PM)
Hi, Dave. Helu is third-down and hurry-up material. Some games, there will be some value in it. But I don't think the Skins view him as a viable bang-it-in-there early-down player. He should definitely be owned, though.
Need help (Right here)
Thoughts on dealing Cameron and Garcon for Julio? Cook is my other TE.
Christopher Harris (3:57 PM)
I'd do it.
Would you rather have Shorts or Givens ROS?
Christopher Harris (3:57 PM)
Hi, Dave. Probably Givens.
Lance Dunbar is already practicing today. Drop Redman for him?
Christopher Harris (3:58 PM)
Hi, Matt. If I'm a Murray owner, sure.
Do you see Kendall Hunter getting more touches ROS?
Christopher Harris (3:58 PM)
Hi, Dave. I think last year's usage is probably a pretty good guide.... (Before the injury.)
Christopher Harris (3:59 PM)
OK, everyone, thanks very much. We got over 1,500 questions in a single hour, so while I know it's frustrating ("what a jerk! he wouldn't take my question!"), I promise it isn't personal. I'm very appreciative that you're here, and that you're a fan of ESPN Fantasy. I hope you'll follow me @CHarrisESPN. Thank you very much for coming, and have a great rest of your day.
