Brandon Chatmon (3:58 PM)
Keep sending in questions, we'll get started in a minute
Brandon Chatmon (4:01 PM)
Ok, let's go ahead and get started
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
What Big-12 College Football Team has the Best & the Worst Defense in 2013?
Brandon Chatmon (4:03 PM)
That's an interesting question Chris because I don't think every team has been tested yet. For the best defense, I'm still going to go with TCU for now although I think Oklahoma State and Oklahoma are both better defensively this season.... As far as the worst defense? I'd have to say Iowa State. I don't like what I've seen from the Cyclones' D thus far. There's some talent there but they are so young it could make for a long season in Ames.
Mike (Temple, Tx)
Does Notre Dame intentionally allow the grass to grow to longer lengths on its field (I remember USC complaining years back)? If so, do you think it gives ND an advantage, and have the Sooners prepared?
Brandon Chatmon (4:05 PM)
I don't know if they still do that but I know it doesn't matter. Both teams play in the same field, so basically if long grass somehow emerges as the reason if OU loses, they've got a bunch of other problems
Jay (Michigan )
How do you see OU/ND playing out?
Brandon Chatmon (4:08 PM)
Jay, I initially had the Notre Dame winning this one. But as the week has gone on I'm starting to give OU the slight advantage. I think the Sooners have more playmakers on offense and I think their defense has improved. There isn't any outcome that would really surprise me though. I don't think we know a whole lot about OU yet
Dale, the Open-minded Sooner fan (<---That blew your mind huh?)
People need to start giving it up to Baylor, I think they are the real deal. Dating back to last year, they have won 7 straight games with an average margin of victory of 35 points, and three of the games were against K-State, OSU, and UCLA. Yeah their schedule sucks, along with OU and all other Big 12 games played so far (I don't count losses like TCU vs. LSU). I am more worried about OU vs. Baylor than OU vs. Notre Dame, even though OU could easily lose this weekend.
Brandon Chatmon (4:10 PM)
I'm right there with you Dale. There's an under riding bit of denial I have noticed among fans of other Big 12 schools when it comes to Baylor. The Bears are legit and they won't be an easy win for anyone. If that game happened today, I'd be picking Baylor.
Mike P (Greater KC)
Any concerns over Kstate and the way they played against Texas... Or was Texas the better team and just outplayed KSU
Brandon Chatmon (4:11 PM)
Not really. I just think Texas was the better team.
Jordan Maun (Norman, Ok)
What Big 12 team has the best chance of winning a national championship in the next 5 years and why?
Brandon Chatmon (4:13 PM)
This is an excellent question Jordan. I have no idea because there are several teams I think could pull it off. OU, OSU, Baylor, even Texas all come to mind for me. And other Big 12 schools could have a dream season and put themselves into the mix. If I had to pick one school, I'd say OU. I think they have the program going back in a good direction after stumbling a bit.
Sean Forster (Orlando, FL)
If Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Baylor stay undefeated till November, will that be enough boost one of those three teams to the BCS Championship if one of those three runs the table?
Brandon Chatmon (4:14 PM)
Potentially yes. It depends on how the rest of the teams play out. If there are other undefeated teams from other conferences it could be tough for the Big 12 to get in.
Chuck (Morgantown)
Which Big 12 team has played the hardest schedule to date? I have to go with TCU solely because of LSU, then Texas, then WVU.
Brandon Chatmon (4:15 PM)
I'd lean TCU as well, same reason.
Otto (CA)
Do you enjoy the soaring vocals of Reuben Studdard?
Brandon Chatmon (4:16 PM)
At times, this is my Sorry for 2004.
kaleb (Doane college)
who do you start at qb vs ku if your kk
Brandon Chatmon (4:17 PM)
Baker Mayfield probably. It's looking more and more like Brewer will be the guy long term though. Neither true freshman has been consistently dominating thus far.
Dominic (Irving Texas. )
how much is mack brown truly hurting the university of texas for future recruits and as a program in general?
Brandon Chatmon (4:17 PM)
Not much. Texas will always be able to recruit, that's not a problem. Texas will always be Texas, so that's not a problem either.
MikeD (Rhode Island)
We haven't see much of Iowa State yet because of their weird schedule. They've showed some improvement in the Iowa game, but do you think they'll get a win at Tulsa before starting their Big 12 gauntlet?
Brandon Chatmon (4:18 PM)
I do. I think they will find a way to get a win against Tulsa, I wasn't that impressed with the Golden Hurricane against OU.
Tony (Richmond, CA)
How big a loss in Jordan Hicks to an already struggling defense? And is it sadly time now to officially categorize him as a bust?
Brandon Chatmon (4:21 PM)
I think it's huge from a leadership standpoint Tony. I think they might be better prepared but he was one of the leaders on the defense. As far as a bust, you can call him that I will not. Being a "bust" if often the result of expectations that shouldn't have been there anyway. I call someone a "bust" if they never see the field, otherwise, I don't tend to throw that label around, too many other variables in play.
jay (oklahoma)
Can OU run the ball on the irish this year? Both lines are pretty close to the same as they were last year. Can bedenbaugh make that much difference?
Brandon Chatmon (4:22 PM)
I think they can. I think Bedenbaugh has made a difference and I also think the Sooners will have a better plan of attack this year.
Xavier (Lubbock)
Why are people talking up Baylor so much? Tech can blow out small schools too and we blew out SMU.
Brandon Chatmon (4:23 PM)
Have you watched Baylor? At all?
Tony (Richmond, CA)
Is the Kansas State win overblown and simply a Band-Aid win to stop the bleeding? Mack Brown has to still win the RRR or take the Big XII in order to justify his return, right?
Brandon Chatmon (4:24 PM)
Probably. I don't think beating Kansas State at home will be enough. If the Longhorns get run off the field by the Sooners again... yikes.
Ted Flint (Kansas)
Pick one coach to give a speech to get your team fired up for a must win, who is it and why
Brandon Chatmon (4:25 PM)
Rex Ryan... because I'd like to go get a snack
Brandon Chatmon (4:26 PM)
But seriously, it would probably be Urban Meyer at Ohio State... in the Big 12? That's tough because of the limited opportunities to see those guys in their element but I'd probably go with Mike Gundy or Paul Rhoads
Derrin (Plano, TX)
True or False, Baylor adds insult to Texas' injuries, by clinching the BIG XII versus the Longhorns the final game of the regular season?
Brandon Chatmon (4:27 PM)
False. Because the odds are on my side. Ask me again after Baylor has been tested a little bit more, so like mid to late October
Jeff (Tampa, FL)
Isn't it the truth, that Charlie Weiss, not his players, are the pile of crap? And that he should be shpped back to the NFL as a coordinator. He is the most overhyped/overpaid coach that I've seen in my 30 years of watching CFB.
Brandon Chatmon (4:29 PM)
I wouldn't go that far but I have expected much more from the Jayhawks offense this season. 19.3 points per game, 350 yards per game? That's not going to cut it
Jon (Tulsa)
Given that Notre Dame has only one ranked team besides OU on its schedule and Mississippi State has 5 upcoming. Isn't Miss State more of a factor who goes to NC game?
Brandon Chatmon (4:30 PM)
They could be if they win. If Miss State pulls off an upset or two that might help OSU. But Notre Dame is still Notre Dame, and that means something.
Michael (Austin)
Does it seem logical that Baylor isn't ranked higher than UCLA? Scratching my head.
Brandon Chatmon (4:32 PM)
Not really. But it will all work out in the end. Also, remember, even though Baylor beat UCLA in the bowl game, we're still talking about two different teams.
Keith (Seattle, WA)
Who misses who more? Nebraska misses the Big XII, or vice versa?
Brandon Chatmon (4:34 PM)
Nebraska misses the Big XII more but I'm sure they're up in the money bin like Scrooge McDuck, just rolling around in their cash... so they don't miss it too much. That said the Big 12 misses Nebraska also, a lot of good memories with the folks in Lincoln.
evan (mcminnville tn)
NC game......Baylor vs. Stanford.......write it down.....and I'm a Sooner fan
Brandon Chatmon (4:35 PM)
That's a big time call Evan. If indeed that is the case, be sure to let me know who you have for the Super Bowl, NBA Finals, etc...
Roy (Norman, OK)
Brandon, do I end my career the way it started in Norman, with a bang?
Brandon Chatmon (4:36 PM)
Roy Finch? Is that you? Why'd you skip out after practice yesterday? Anyway I think that will all depend on your renewed focus and maturity. The Sooners coaches have proven they won't hesitate to put you on the bench even if you have made some plays with the ball in your hands. Just keep doing what you're doing and yes, you can end it with a bang.
Casey (Michigan)
Hey Brandon- what's your thought on Georgia State?
Brandon Chatmon (4:39 PM)
Don't know much about them other than they were blown out by West Virginia, whose coach just rewatched their recent 37-0 loss to Maryland then said "there were some things that did resemble football"... so I'm guessing Georgia State is not very good.
Caleb (Crete NE)
do you think there is any way tech win the big 12. what do they have to do to do it
Brandon Chatmon (4:40 PM)
Absolutely. It will come down to consistently play at the quarterback position and continued strong performances from their defense. I see no reason Texas Tech cannot win the Big 12 this year
Jon (Tulsa)
Even if Baylor goes undefeated won't the computers keep them from NC game?
Brandon Chatmon (4:42 PM)
If there are other undefeated teams it's quite possible. That's why you need to play Notre Dame, Mississippi State or LSU in non-conference games.
Derrin (Plano, TX)
Which wide receiver becomes the solid #2 guy opposite Jalen Saunders?
Brandon Chatmon (4:43 PM)
Sterling Shepard will be the No. 2 option. There are other talented receivers like Trey Metoyer and Durron Neal but Shepard has been the more consistent playmaker during his career.
Michael F. (Yukon, OK)
if Georgia doesn't win the national title this year, is Richt done? In the BCS era, UGA is the only SEC Champion that has not even played for the national title. Also, why is Ferentz paid so much to not do anything at Iowa?
Brandon Chatmon (4:45 PM)
Sure, let's step away from the Big 12 for a moment, shall we.... I don't think Richt should be done. That falls squarely in the be careful what you wish for category in terms of thinking he will be easily replaced. As far as Ferentz, he does enough to get paid that way, so I'm not gonna hate. In fact, I'd like to see if he's willing to share.
Tony (Richmond, CA)
Do the Sooners have a shot at landing Tashon Smallwood now that he's decommitted from USC?
Brandon Chatmon (4:46 PM)
Depends on what you call a shot. Is there a chance? Probably. Is there a great chance? I doubt it.
Hatari Byrd (Norman)
Where do the Sooners stand with my former HS teammates?
Brandon Chatmon (4:48 PM)
You should know better than me Hatari. Matter of fact, you should be recruiting Michiah Quick and company right now (or at practice) instead of chatting with me. But in reality the Sooners should feel good about things if they get those guys on campus and they have a good visit. We'll know more as the season progresses.
jay (oklahoma)
any word on if steven parker is leaning OU or OSU at this point?
Brandon Chatmon (4:50 PM)
OU should feel pretty good about it's chances but they'll have to recruit him well if he is going to end up in Norman. And I wouldn't put all my eggs on one basket with regards to Parker if I'm OSU.
Nick Miller (LA)
Baylor's defense looks improved but will certainly not keep up this pace against better offenses. How good should we expect the BU defense to be against the good Big 12 offenses?
Brandon Chatmon (4:53 PM)
I think the Baylor defense is improved. They look fast and athletic but I don't see them shutting down Big 12 offenses. I do think they will slow them down enough to win a bunch of games though. I think Baylor's aggressive approach on defense will help create turnovers and win games, much like it has thus far. I'd expect that to continue in Big 12 play.
Brandon Chatmon (4:55 PM)
Here are three things I'm looking for in the Big 12 this week.1. How will Blake Bell play in his first road start?2. How Dana Holgorsen plans to spark WVU's offense.3. Will TCU find some type of offensive identity.
Jeff (Tampa, FL)
Whatever happened to Tee Shepherd? is he still a possibility for the Sooners? Or do academics remain too much of an issue?
Brandon Chatmon (4:56 PM)
Still in juco in Mississippi I believe
Nick Miller (LA)
What Big 12 teams have the best O-lines?
Brandon Chatmon (4:58 PM)
I'm going with Oklahoma as the top OL with Baylor behind them
Nick Miller (LA)
Who has been the most surprising player in the Big 12 so far?
Brandon Chatmon (5:00 PM)
Good question. I'm going to go with Bryce Petty just because I didn't expect him to be so dominant and efficient. I thought the Baylor quarterback would be good but he's been outstanding.
Nick Miller (LA)
Can I have a hug?
Brandon Chatmon (5:00 PM)
And... this chat just took a turn... perfect way to end. Thanks everyone! Have a great day!
