Jamison Hensley (ESPN) (2:07 PM)
Sorry for running a little late today. Thanks to everyone for being here (especially those who were on time). Let's get to the questions.
Based on Ozzie's drafting history, who do you see the Ravens nabbing in the first round?
Jamison Hensley (ESPN) (2:09 PM)
Looking at the board, it seems like the Ravens could get value in the middle of the first round with a wide receiver or offensive tackle. Mel Kiper has the Ravens taking TE Eric Ebron. Todd McShay has Baltimore picking Texas A&M WR Mike Evans.
What Ravens free agents are likely to re-sign with the Ravens?
Jamison Hensley (ESPN) (2:11 PM)
The Ravens are definitely keeping TE Dennis Pitta, whether it's a new contract or the franchise tag. I would then go with OT Eugene Monroe and ILB Daryl Smith. I wouldn't be surprised if they kept CB Corey Graham as well.
Any chance that Scott Linehan could be the next OC?
Jamison Hensley (ESPN) (2:14 PM)
That is a name I forgot to mention. Linehan was the Lions offensive coordinator for the past five seasons. Speaking of veteran OCs, Mike Mularkey has a good track record as a play-caller as well. And another possible name to watch is Jim Zorn, who was Joe Flacco's QB coach a few years ago.
Rank in order of most likely to be next oc? mularkey, kubiak, linehan, chud, turner
Jamison Hensley (ESPN) (2:15 PM)
This is just my opinion, so here we go: Norv Turner, Gary Kubiak, Mike Mularkey, Scott Linehan and Rob Chudzinski.
Brad (Lynchburg, VA)
Are the changes on the offensive side of the ball (new OL coach, new RB coach) a sign that the Ravens weren't as sure that it was just the players that were the problem in the run game?
Jamison Hensley (ESPN) (2:17 PM)
Not really. Juan Castillo was the OL coach last year even though he had the title of run game coordinator. So, he is now the offensive line coach but his responsibilities don't change. As far as RB coach Wilbert Montgomery, he just wasn't a good fit anymore, especially if the Ravens stick with the one-back, pistol look.
What is the status of Norv Turner and he being able to interview for the offensive coordinator position?
Jamison Hensley (ESPN) (2:18 PM)
Turner is still under contract with the Browns. Cleveland is holding onto all assistants until a new head coach is hired, but it may grant permission for the coaches to interview elsewhere. The Vikings have requested permission to talk to Turner for OC.
Does outside linebacker automatically become a draft need if terrell suggs is released? Even with upshaw, dumervil, mcphee, and simon?
Jamison Hensley (ESPN) (2:19 PM)
Not sure if OLB necessarily becomes a priority, but finding a pass rusher on nickel defense certainly does. I still think something will get done as far as a contract extension where Suggs will stay and retire as a Raven.
Hey Jamison. Is there any possibility the Ravens have enough cap room to get someone like Hakeem Nicks or Danario Alexander? Then use their early picks on drafting future replacements for guys like Ngata, Suggs and D. Smith (if re-signed)?
Jamison Hensley (ESPN) (2:22 PM)
I'll be interested in seeing the type of market that Nicks will get. His price would definitely dictate the Ravens' interest. With Alexander, he is coming off major knee surgery. If the Ravens would sign him, there would be no expectations with him. It would be more of a flier than anything.
Jamison, do you see any way the Ravens would consier drafting a guy like Eric Ebron in the first round to help solve our lack of weapons problem? As a fan I would rather have him then Mike Evans or Marqise Lee.
Jamison Hensley (ESPN) (2:23 PM)
I will address the possibility of drafting Ebron in my 3 p.m. post. This is my shameless plug of the day.
Fred (New York)
Hey Jamison, Great job by the way! Do you think the Ravens will hire an OC in the next few days? If so, who is the best fit for Flacco's development?
Jamison Hensley (ESPN) (2:24 PM)
I don't see the Ravens being in any rush over this. They will want to bring in candidates and interview them. I would be surprised if anything got done this week. The service for Harbaugh's grandfather is Friday.
I think the ravens should draft Kelvin Benjamin what do you think
Jamison Hensley (ESPN) (2:27 PM)
Benjamin definitely improved his stock late in the season and in the BCS Championship Game. The key to him will be consistency. He should be available when the Ravens are drafting at No. 16 or No. 17.
Do you think Flacco would rather have Jim hostler promoted or bring in someone new like Kubiak or Turner?
Jamison Hensley (ESPN) (2:29 PM)
Honestly, I think Flacco would prefer to bring back Jim Zorn. He had a close relationship with him when Zorn was the QB coach.
Mark (new jersey)
Do you think there is any talent in the free agency for the OT position? If so, what would be a wise pick up for Baltimore?
Jamison Hensley (ESPN) (2:31 PM)
The Ravens' decision in free agency is whether to re-sign Eugene Monroe or Michael Oher. I believe it's going to be Monroe, although the Ravens would likely ask Oher to be the LT if he is brought back. But the Ravens only have the cap room to keep one. The right tackle will either come in the draft or from within (team is high on Rick Wagner).
Odds of Ravens keeping Authur Jones?
Jamison Hensley (ESPN) (2:31 PM)
Slim. Another team is going to make him a rich man.
Do you think McClain, Koch and Leach are likely salary cap casualties?
Jamison Hensley (ESPN) (2:32 PM)
Those are the ones I would project.
How many Ravens assistants do you think will follow Caldwell to Detroit?
Jamison Hensley (ESPN) (2:33 PM)
Secondary coach Teryl Austin has long been rumored to be the defensive coordinator for Caldwell. I wouldn't be surprised if OL coach Andy Moeller and RB coach Wilbert Montgomery followed Caldwell there.
Craig (Ellicott City)
Does it look like Suggs will take a pay cut?
Jamison Hensley (ESPN) (2:34 PM)
My guess is he'll be able to earn all that money owed to him this season but it will be spread out over three seasons in the form of an extension.
Jamison Hensley (ESPN) (2:35 PM)
Norv Turner. Click on the link to read why: http://espn.go.com/blog/baltimore-ravens/post/_/id/5868/why-ravens-should-hire-norv-turner
Ed (Queens Village)
Will Ravens stay in-house or look outside for new OC?
Jamison Hensley (ESPN) (2:36 PM)
I thought the Ravens would stay in-house with WR coach Jim Hostler because that's been their history. But, by not promoting him right away, that's an indication they're going to look outside.
I wanna add another jersey to my collection outside of flacco (which i already have) who do you see been on the team for the longest period of time?
Jamison Hensley (ESPN) (2:36 PM)
Torrey Smith, Justin Tucker, Marshal Yanda and Jimmy Smith.
Brad (Lynchburg, Va)
This might be a Mel Kiper question, but how high is too high to take a center? Lots of people were laughing at Dallas taking one in the first round last year. And do you see the ravens spending another draft pick on a center this year? (A.Q Shipley trade)
Jamison Hensley (ESPN) (2:39 PM)
The highest I would take a center is in the 20s, and he would have to be special. The Steelers selected Maurkice Pouncey with the No. 18 overall pick in 2010. The highest the Ravens drafted a center was the second round, and it was Chris Chester, who didn't develop into a center.
How many more years before DeCosta takes over?
Jamison Hensley (ESPN) (2:40 PM)
That's a question for Ozzie Newsome. No way for me to even speculate on that.
Hi Jamison. People have talked about how the new OC's big task will be helping Flacco. With that in mind, do you think the Ravens would be better served with an OC that Flacco likes or one that gets in his face (to help him improve)?
Jamison Hensley (ESPN) (2:42 PM)
Since Flacco's greatest success came with a coordinator who he could talk freely with (Caldwell), I would say get an OC that Flacco likes.
Jamison Hensley (ESPN) (2:43 PM)
Thanks for all of the great questions. My apologies again for being late. Let's do this again next week. Hope you enjoy the AFC and NFC Championship Games.
