Terry Blount (2:00 PM)
Hey gang,I hope everyone is having a great summer. What's up?
Ed (Queens Village)
Last two SB Champs have miss playoffs. What must Seahawks do not to fall into that SB hangover and miss playoffs?
Terry Blount (2:01 PM)
I really don't see these guys losing their edge Ed. It's still a really young team with hungry guys. But they do have a brutal schedule down the stretch in the toughest division in football.
Zach Seattle [via mobile]
What teams do you predict will play in the NFC and AFC championship games this season? Also, who is your Super Bowl winner prediction?
Terry Blount (2:03 PM)
If I'm guessing today, I would say Seattle and Indianapolis. And I do believe the Seahawks can repeat, but it's an incredibly difficult task.
Zach, Seattle [via mobile]
With the price of successful quarterbacks increasingly rising in the NFL, and based on recent quarterback contracts, how much do you believe Russ could get payed? How much more, if he can guide the hawks to another championship?
Terry Blount (2:04 PM)
If they win another Super Bowl, the sky's the limit. Even if they don't, assuming he has a good year, he will get in excess of $20 million a year and maybe as much as #25 million a year in a long-term deal.
Hi Terry, assuming he reports and is healthy, what is your projected RB breakdown of carries per game for our RBs
Terry Blount (2:05 PM)
I think overall the Seahawks will run the ball a little less this season, but they still will be a power-running team first. And I expect Lynch to get fewer carries, maybe 225 to 250 instead of 300, and Michael to get in the mix.
Dorian( Seattle) [via mobile]
To me there has been absolutely zero widening of the gap between the seahawks and niners an the seahawks schedule is much harder to start the season ! In your opinion is sweeping the miners gonna likely be the difference between winning the nfc west ?
Terry Blount (2:07 PM)
I think they can split the two games and still win the division. If the Cardinals find good replacements at the inside linebacker spots, they are going to be in the mix also. It really comes down to which team plays the best in the final month, and injuries could play a part in that.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
Where is the Seattle Seahawks Summer Training Camp?
Terry Blount (2:09 PM)
The Seahawks have camp at their own facility, and why wouldn't they? It's the best in the NFL, a beautiful setting on the banks of Lake Washington.
Will Seattle keep 6 wide receivers or stick with five? Who will be the one that gets cut?
Terry Blount (2:13 PM)
This is going to be one of the most interesting areas to watch in camp. Seattle has 13 WRs vying for six spots, and maybe only five. My 1.0 version of their 53-man roster comes out tomorrow, but I think they will keep six receivers. Four are locks _ Harvin, Baldwin, Kearse and rookie Paul Richardson. Norwood would make it for me. The sixth spot may come down to whether they place Rice on IR to start the year, but he says he's ready to so to start camp next week. We'll see. Either way, Rice will have to fight for a spot with Ricardo Lockette and possibly Chris Matthews.
Lance (Las Vegas)
How is it looking at the Punt Returner position?
Terry Blount (2:16 PM)
Five guys at least are vying for it. Thomas, Sherman, Baldwin, Harvin and Richardson. It's anyone's guess at this point, but I would say Harvin if he feels comfortable doing it.
Will O'Brien Schofield make the team?
Terry Blount (2:17 PM)
Very iffy. If Irvin and Smith are OK after offseason surgery, I think Schofield has a tough road to make it. He's going to have to make a difference on special teams to keep a spot.
What's more likely? Malcolm Smith makes a Pro Bowl in the next 2 years OR is out of the league in the next 2 years?
Terry Blount (2:18 PM)
Absolutely zero chance he's out of the league in two year unless it's from injury or health issues.
Brandon (Southlake, TX) [via mobile]
Hey Terry, I hope you are having a great summer as well. Besides the two 49ers' games, which game do you see as the toughest game on the Hawks' schedule?
Terry Blount (2:21 PM)
They have the toughest schedule I've ever seen for a defending Super Bowl champ. At home early against Green Bay and Denver. On the road at Carolina and Philly. But it the stretch run that's a killer. The last six games include two with the 49ers, two with Arizona, at Philly and home against the Rams. It's brutal
Lance (Las Vegas)
Do you believe the league dislikes us up in the North West? Toughest schedule, bye week is week 4, barely any air time this season. They probably also didn't like that the SB was so one sided! Best SB I have ever seen!
Terry Blount (2:22 PM)
The league has nothing against the Seahawks, but I do think sometimes people on the East Coast see us as Eastern Siberia.
Derrick Coleman or Spencer Ware? Who will get more snaps this year?
Terry Blount (2:23 PM)
Coleman. Ware may be seen more as a RB now with Small in the mix.
Keith H (Seattle)
How does it look for the free agent guard from San Diego who went to Bellevue High (I think his name is Schilling) to make the roster?
Terry Blount (2:24 PM)
I'd say it's 50/50 Keith. He's going to need to show something in preseason.
If there was a Punter battle royale, would Jon Ryan win? He's jacked.
Terry Blount (2:26 PM)
Jon is in amazing shape. He looks like a power lifter. He's not your typical scrawny punter.
Lance (Las Vegas)
Favorite Seahawks play was voted and Beast Quake won. What is your personal favorite Seahawks play?
Terry Blount (2:28 PM)
I'd say the Best Quake is my favorite to watch, but I went with Sherman's tip as the most memorable because of all the implications it brought. It got the Seahawks in the Super Bowl and made Sherman a national celebrity after his rant, followed a few days later by his well-informed comments on racism.
How do you see last years defensive picks in Jordan Hill and Jesse Williams shaping up? Do they make any contributions this season?
Terry Blount (2:30 PM)
If Jesse says healthy, I think he can make things happen. But both guys now may take a back seat to Kevin Williams, one of the best DT's over the last decade. Williams looks in great shape and it could be a key component in the DT mix this season.
If Tavaris Jackson is pressed into duty, can he keep the team afloat?
Terry Blount (2:32 PM)
Yes, but he isn't Wilson. The offense would have a different look under Jackson. He doesn't have Wilson's scrambling skills, but TJ is a strong pocket passer who really knows this offensive system. However, if you're asking me whether this team could win the Super Bowl with Jackson as the starter I would say no.
Lance (Las Vegas)
I know Maxwell filled in great last season and had some great plays but with Browner and Thurmand gone, who will be opposite of Sherman? Maxwell, Lane, Simon? I like all 3 and if Simon stays healthy he can help on Special teams correct?
Terry Blount (2:35 PM)
Maxwell for sure. In fact, earlier this week on our NFL Nation TV show, I said Maxwell would be the starter this year even is Brandon and Walter were back. Lane will be the nickel back and probably the first CB up in either starter got hurt. Simon was the highlight-reel guy of the offseason workouts. He has a very bright future.
How many corners do you think they keep on the 53?
Terry Blount (2:38 PM)
That depends on how You count Shead. He can play corner and safety. Sherman, Maxwell, Lane and Simon look to be locks. Jefferson and Adams and vying for a spot. Rookie Pinkins, who they are trying to move from safety to corner, may start out of the practice squad.
Brent (St. Paul)
Long time Washington native. 2nd favorite stadium?
Terry Blount (2:40 PM)
For the NFL, I love Arrowhead Stadium in KC. For baseball, the Giants park in SF is really cool. For college, the new and improved Husky Stadium is awesome, to name a few.
When are the SuperSonics coming back??
Terry Blount (2:41 PM)
I'd say it's still a long process. I don't see an NBA team here now for three or four years, maybe more. I hope I'm wrong.
With the Lynch contact drama looming, there's been much talk about how Christine Michael is the future at RB for the team. Has he officially leapfrogged Turbin as the #2 runningback on the depth chart, or does Michael still have work to do to supplant Turbin?
Terry Blount (2:43 PM)
Great question Ben. Everyone is talking about Michael, but Turbin looked great in the offseason workouts. He had a knee situation cleaned up in the offseason and looked a lot faster. His cutting moves were crisp. Turbin could surprise some people this year.
Lance (Las Vegas)
What do you think our record will be? I am going 13-3 again. Very tough season but most of our tough games are at home so we have a better shot at those games.
Terry Blount (2:44 PM)
Right now I would say 12-4 just because the stretch run is so tough.
Every 12 likes Jackson as a solid fallback to Wilson. Does Terrelle Pryor look to be the long-term backup at QB?
Terry Blount (2:45 PM)
Ben, I just don't see it. Maybe that will change as he gets more time in the system, but Pryor hasn't impressed me.
Stefano (Langley, Canada)
Do you see Russell Wilson staying in Seattle for the rest of his career?
Terry Blount (2:48 PM)
Probably. Wilson has become iconic here now. In fact, few athletes in Seattle history have been more respected and beloved than Russell. He's on his way to reaching Largent and Griffey for Seattle hero status. Wilson is going to do special things long after his football career is over, whether that be in politics or broadcasting or whatever route he chooses.
After signing guys like Sherman, ET and Doug this offseason. What do you see the Hawks doing next year? Obviously, signing Russell to a long term, but who is up after him? Bobby Wagner, KJ, Malcom? I would assume we won't be able to keep all of them.
Terry Blount (2:51 PM)
Eric, the truth is they won't be ale to keep all the players they won't to keep. After paying Wilson, the cap numbers just won't add up. Frankly, I don't see how they could keep all three of those linebackers. Lynch also could be a cap casualty. Even Okung might not be here long term.
Britt or Bowie?
Terry Blount (2:53 PM)
For now, I would go with Bowie, only because I'm not keen on starting rookies at OT unless they are exceptional. Bowie paid his dues last year going through a baptism by fire when Giacomini got hurt. But Michael better come to camp in shape because I guarantee you Britt's in shape. He's the future for them, but I don't know if the future starts in Sept. this year.
Who is one guy from the practice squad that could surprise people this year?
Terry Blount (2:55 PM)
Maybe Cooper Helfet at TE. Hard worker, tough competitor and a really bright guy.
With Anthony McCoy on IR last year, Luke Willson enjoyed a solid rookie campaign at TE. As McCoy returns with good health, who projects as the #2 TE behind Zach Miller?
Terry Blount (2:56 PM)
Willson still is No. 2, and will be No. 1 down the road. McCoy has to work his way back in the mix and make sure he catches the balls that come his way.
Will Marshawn see a little pay bump this season?
Terry Blount (2:57 PM)
Maybe. There isn't a lot of cap money to work with. but it's possibly they could work something out, maybe in bonus incentives. The real question is what happens if they don't? How will Lynch react?
Jimmy (LA) [via mobile]
How tough is Aaron Rodgers compared to the Super Bowl quarterbacks we faced? Can our pass rush get to him?
Terry Blount (2:59 PM)
I think Rodgers is at good as any QB in the league. He will test the LOB in the opener. Should be fun to watch.
Does Maxwell ever get an extension or is the corner opposite Sherman always going to be a revolving door to save money?
Terry Blount (3:00 PM)
If Maxwell plays well this season, I don't see any way the Seahawks keep him. He will get offers they just can't match.
Terry Blount (3:01 PM)
Great questions today gang. One more week and we all can see just how things look as the Seahawks start camp. The quest for another title begins, and this team is in an excellent position to get it done. Have a great weekend. Peace.
