KC Joyner (3:59 PM)
Good afternoon! Let's talk some fantasy football!
Brandon (Mattoon, IL)
Stone Cold was my favorite back in the day!! 2 QB, 6 pts passing td leagues. I am curious which QB combo you like better of my 2 teams: Rodgers and Kaep or Manning and RG3 (also have Cousins)? Thanks!
KC Joyner (4:01 PM)
Stone Cold rules. He's got a great podcast and reality TV show. Like Rodgers and Kaep more, as Rodgers has an incredibly favorable schedule and Kaepernick only needs a 10 percent increase in pass value to be a top 5 passer. Peyton has a brutal schedule and RG3 isn't acclimating to the new offense very well.
KC whats your take on John Brown? Getting a lot of hype lately. Worth drafting in a 12 team league?
KC Joyner (4:02 PM)
Do like Brown but he'd be third on the target chart at best and he may have to split some of his WR3 targets. Not to say he isn't a good later round value, just not sure of his upside.
Ericht (Henderson, Nevada)
Should I be concerned about picking up APs back up?
KC Joyner (4:02 PM)
Peterson's been hurt in two of the past three years. Minnesota has a good run blocking group and his backups do well because of that, so get his handcuff if possible.
Creepy Abbreviator (Keepin' it short)
Seeking your prognostication skillz on a couple of pass catchers in my 0.5 PPR league. Whaddya think of either Kendall Wright or Emmanuel Sanders as a WR2?
KC Joyner (4:04 PM)
Still one of my favorite chat names. Got Sanders & Wright rated nearly equal but just moved Sanders up a bit. He's also got more vertical production potential, so he'd be the pick.
Rachel (Columbus, OH)
I'm new to fantasy and drafting 14th in an 18 person league. My brother, the fantasy expert, has no advice as he does 12 person leagues. What advice can you offer about what position to draft in this spot?!?! Thanks.
KC Joyner (4:05 PM)
Welcome to fantasy football! Drafting 14th in an 18-team league is a heckuva way to start. In leagues of that size, the general rule is to get as many high percentage players as possible. The size of the league will force teams to take chances on picks later in drafts, so that type of risk-taking isn't necessary on earlier picks.
Elmo (New Orleans)
Suspension Problems...Dropped Gordon for Baldwin (Good?)Should I drop Prater when i have 7 bench spots?
KC Joyner (4:06 PM)
Unless you play in a really deep league, the suggestion would be to drop Prater and save the bench spot for someone else.
KC, your FF wisdom is on a par with Paul Heyman's knowledge of the squared circle: "Read column, Waiver-add, Repeat!" Speaking of "Option C," are you buying into the growing buzz around Benny Cunningham? Who are a couple guys you'd cut for BC?
KC Joyner (4:07 PM)
We saw Heyman's DVD at Best Buy yesterday and my youngest said, "Dad, that's for you because you're a Paul Heyman guy." Too true! If we start selling t-shirts that say that, we'll have to send you a royalty check. Am definitely buying into the Cunningham buzz. Got him currently ranked as a high-end RB4 and could rank him even higher.
KC, I'm in a dynasty league and can only keep 4 players. Got Stafford, Forte, Julius T, and was gonna keep J. Gordon. Would you recommend bailing on Gordon and keeping C. Patterson instead. Gordon would be a dead roster spot on a short bench this year, but with hopes for 2015. Thanks.
KC Joyner (4:08 PM)
Hey there. Would keep Patterson. He's got the most favorable CB schedule of any WR in the league and could have a fantastic season.
HIGH ENERGY (THE LAND OF THE HARTS)
I could post my name and get a reply but thought this would be a better means, Would picking Crooks as a WR2 late in the 6th be too early knowing he won't be available after? I'm stacked at RB/QB with Allen as my #1
KC Joyner (4:10 PM)
Hey, I've been posting those without wrestling names! Heck, just post a funny Airplane comment and it'll get more attention. Assuming that means Cooks, he is going earlier and earlier in drafts but that's to be expected given how dominant he's looked. If there is any player worth taking an early pick risk on, he's it so go ahead and make the pick knowing you may have to offset it with a safe pick or two.
Surely you can answer this question (Canada)
Is luck the number one qb in a dynasty league?
KC Joyner (4:11 PM)
See! Luck is absolutely the No. 1 QB in a dynasty league format. As one person I was talking to recently said, "You draft Luck and you won't have to worry about a QB for 10 years."
Sabu (EC f'n W!!!) [via mobile]
I might have forgotten to get a TE until late when my best option was Ebron. Do you think he's an okay starter for a 12 team PPR league?
KC Joyner (4:12 PM)
Sabu falling off the RAW sign was classic. He's an OK starter but there is enough depth at TE that you should be able to offset that risk with another selection. If Ladarius Green is available, definitely add him to the roster.
Frank the tank (Virginia)
I believe you said that trent Richardson had worse percent of plays that were well blocked compared to Donald brown. Could part of the issue be your stat is marking a play as bad blocking when Richardson hesitates and because of it defenders get in the backfield?
KC Joyner (4:13 PM)
In a case like that, the play would be marked as good blocking. Mind you, Richardson did hesitate a lot on his runs, but part of that probably had to do with getting bad blocking so often that he expected to have to make plays on his own.
Weekend drafter (anxiously awaiting)
KC what's up! How do you feel about Gio Bernard? Seem like a lot are cooling on him. How would you rank him with Stacy, Bell, and Morris?
KC Joyner (4:14 PM)
Hey there! Drafts do make Labor Day weekend more fun but also a whole lot more stressful. I just moved Bernard up one rank on my RB list. Rated just behind Morris and just ahead of Bell.
Please turn on auto update! Can Jordan Cameron owners expect bigger numbers now that Gordon is suspended for the season?
KC Joyner (4:15 PM)
I just turned it off and turned it back on - hope that helps! The take on Cameron is that he will be more like he was later last year than he was at the beginning when he was an upper-tier TE.
Midnight Rider (Roaming Texas)
Non ppr best long shot WR: An.Hawkins,Mi.Williams,S.Smith,Wheaton,M.Lee?
KC Joyner (4:16 PM)
Didn't they do a Midnight Riders tag team where Dusty and Magnum TA both dressed up in the Midnight Riders outfits? Would take Williams out of that group.
Trey Anastasio (Burlington, VT)
Thank you for your time. I'm pulling my hair out deciding whether to keep Forte or Lacy in a .55ppr simple 1 keeper league. I pick at #9 and neither of them are going to make it back to me. Thank you very much for your help!
KC Joyner (4:18 PM)
Keep your hair! Got Forte rated higher this year (he's my top pick in PPR leagues) but Lacy has more long-term value. Just depends on if you want to play for upside this year or upside long term.
How concerned are you about Gronk? I drafted him as my top TE, but only got Heath Miller as a backup. Do I need to be concerned?
KC Joyner (4:19 PM)
Gronk is always an injury concern but there is enough depth at TE where it isn't enough risk to worry about taking him. Miller is a solid backup.
Muscle Hampster (TB)
How much are you raising me in your rankings now that I'm the bell-cow and we acquired Logan Mankins?
KC Joyner (4:20 PM)
The Bucs had the worst good run blocking rate in the league last year. They weren't looking that much better this year and that's probably why they made the trade. It helps but top flight RBs can still be highly productive even if they are given low GBRs. With that in mind, am keeping Martin as a high-end RB2/low-end RB1.
Who's gonna be the best rookie in 2014 fantasy-wise?
KC Joyner (4:20 PM)
Brandin Cooks has the inside track right now. He's been a daily highlight reel in Saints camp.
CM Punk (Hanging in Chicago)
What do you think about Pierre Thomas in a ppr league, a viable rb2?
KC Joyner (4:22 PM)
Punk's got the life. I've got Thomas pegged as a high-end RB3 in PPR leagues, so that's only a half-step away from being a RB2. Would not think it was a stretch to slot him for that roster spot.
I drafted Forte #2 in a standard L over AP and Chuck after Shady went 1st. How bad will I regret this?!
KC Joyner (4:23 PM)
I've got Forte ranked second overall in standard leagues. Don't think this is a move that will be worth any level of regret.
What can you make of this (Johnny)
Hosting the draft party Saturday, wearing my SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONS shirt with lots of blue and green streamers, etc. Is it safe to say that all of your Rams rankings dropped a color group with Bradford's injury?
KC Joyner (4:24 PM)
To get an idea of just how charismatic the Seahawks are consider this. My youngest is a big-time Steelers fan and yet he still has a Beast Mode t-shirt. The Rams RBs value stayed the same after Bradford. Their WRs were never really ranked that high to begin with, so their value didn't drop off much, either.
Refuse to Admit (Production Team for Sin City)
Please, please somebody throw me a bone after the last week! PPR league with 30 pts for return yards as well -- How should I rank WR's Patterson, V Jackson, Crabtree, Garcon, Floyd and TE Gronk. I'll be picking two of the mentioned...
KC Joyner (4:26 PM)
Not at all sure what the title is in reference to. Do want to see the new Sin City movie, as I'm a big fan of Frank Miller and Eva Green. A bit of a long-form question. Do me a favor - send a note over to me on Twitter (@KCJoynerTFS) or via my Facebook page (Facebook.com/KCJoynerTFS) and I'll take a deeper look into it.
Let's talk about D (Baby)
I drafted both the Cards and Saints D in my 14 team draft. I don't plan on keeping 2 for the full year, which one do you think will perform better?
KC Joyner (4:28 PM)
Sounds like a cousin of Al Davis' Just Win Baby. Got the Saints ranked third in D/STs, so would keep them. Really like their S combination and think opposing teams are going to have to throw a lot, which should lead to a lot of picks and sacks.
What do you think about Cody Latimer, Jordan Matthews or Allen Hurns?
KC Joyner (4:28 PM)
Big time sold on Matthews. Sort of sold on Latimer (he's got competition for his role). Not quite as sold on Hurns.
Hi KC, In a league that gives progressive bonuses for longer td catches, can Dez vault to the #1 WR in the new Dallas system or would Graham be better in my wr slot since we use te's as wrs/Thanks
KC Joyner (4:30 PM)
Great to hear from you, Kmac! It's a reminder we've got to get the draft day locked down for the TFS ESPN SportsNation chatters league (Fezzik). Graham won't see as many vertical passes and Bryant is bound to do a lot better in VYPA than his No. 74 ranking last season. Would go Bryant for this one.
Harry Caray (Beer garden in the sky)
Can you elaborate on your comment "Kaepernick only needs a 10 percent increase in pass value to be a top 5 passer". It sounds delicious for us CK owners, but what does it mean?
KC Joyner (4:31 PM)
There's a long form answer but the gist of it is that if Kaepernick saw a mere 10 percent increase in attempts, and that led to a 10 percent increase in completions, yards, TDs (etc.) and kept his run numbers around where they were last year (which were good/very good but not impossible to replicate), he'd end up with numbers that should place around the No. 5 spot among QBs.
KC Joyner (4:32 PM)
BTW, had one of the best steaks ever at Harry Carey's restaurant.
Funny like a clown (On the Line)
With the recent talks of Ellington taking 20 carries a game and being a work horse, what is his current value in a 12 team PPR format?
KC Joyner (4:33 PM)
My kids can and do quote that scene from Goodfellas. It's the only scene they've seen but it's still hilarious to hear them talk like that. Got Ellington ranked 15th among RBs in PPR leagues. He led the league in GBYPA last year and if he gets that kind of workload and comes close to repeating the GBYPA total, he'll vie for top 10 RB status.
Jessica Alba (The real reason you like Sin City)
Have Julio, Decker, James Jones and Latimer at WR in a 12 tm league..would you swap out Latimer for Kenny Stills? I know you got some love for him...
KC Joyner (4:35 PM)
OK, should have clarified. Big fan of Frank Miller for Sin City 1 and Sin City 2. Big fan of Jessica Alba for Sin City 1 and Eva Green for Sin City 2. Like Latimer long term but he doesn't seem to be acclimating to Denver's offense quite so quickly. He also didn't have much better metrics than most of the other Indiana WRs last year. Stills led the league in YPA last season so he'd be the choice.
pretending to do work (my job)
thoughts on montee ball as a top 10 rb?
KC Joyner (4:37 PM)
I aim to lead the fantasy football world in production lost due to taking part in ESPN SportsNation chats. Haven't got to that level yet, but that's the goal. Am sold on Ball as a top 10 back. Can read more about it in my undervalued RBs article (http://insider.espn.go.com/fantasy/football/story/_/id/11277362/lesean-mccoy-undervalued-rbs-2014-fantasy-football) but the nutshell is Denver will run the ball more this year.
Should I be concerned about Cam Newton's injury in week one? Romo is my backup so I wouldn't exactly have a problem benching him for a week
KC Joyner (4:38 PM)
In general, when all other items are roughly equal, it pays to start the healthy player over the injured one. Would start Romo in Week 1.
Draft day or Christmas (which do you prefer?)
KC a month or so ago you gave Brees and Jordan Reed as guys you were reaching for and avoiding. Has that answer changed, or anyone additional to add?
KC Joyner (4:40 PM)
I love draft day but would pick Christmas over it because the entire family gets involved (my youngest is the only other one in the house who likes football). Hasn't changed a bit on Brees or Jordan. Would reach for Cooks. Did recently drop Bryce Brown, as he didn't end up taking over the other half of the platoon role for Buffalo.
No, the white phone! ((are you color blind?))
Hi, KC. You were high in your rankings on Stills and Cooks. (1 spot apart) Stills 2nd year (a plus) but aching and ailing. Is Cooks the better choice?
KC Joyner (4:41 PM)
Give me Ham on five and hold the Mayo. Stills started the year rated higher than Cooks but Cooks has since overtaken him. Am sold on both but would take Cooks first if given a single choice between the two.
Quick pick: M. Bennett or H. Miller?
KC Joyner (4:41 PM)
Bennett. But not by much.
Eva Green (Actually, A Dude Using Her Name)
How many QBs are there that you would feel OK with as your starter? Thinking particularly about the bigger leagues (14-18 teams), and with some injuries/questions (Cam/RG III), reach a little earlier?
KC Joyner (4:42 PM)
The more mentions of Eva Green, the better. Got 15 QBs rated as green-rated or higher and only two of those rate as blue-rated (Brees and Rodgers). Any of them would be good as QB1s. In deep leagues, it might make sense to draft a bit earlier, as some of the green-rated QB1s have more upside than others (Cutler, Romo, Kaep being chief among those).
The Golden Greek, John Tolos (Athens)
Whom do you see being the best WR on the Patriots?
KC Joyner (4:43 PM)
One of the best talkers in wrestling history. Best WR on the Patriots from a FFB perspective would be Edelman.
Don't ask me to Twitter
Can Patterson come close to replicating Gordon's '13 season under Norv Turner? I know that's asking a lot - what's his ceiling this year?
KC Joyner (4:44 PM)
Patterson has the most favorable WR schedule in fantasy football. That gives him off the charts potential. Not going to call for a Gordon '13 season but am thinking he could easily end up a WR2 or even low-end WR1.
Harry Caray (SNL)
If the moon were made of ribs, would you eat it? I know I would..and then I'd wash it down with a nice cold beer...had Arian Foster drop to me..he's my RB3..keep him at that price, or look to move him?
KC Joyner (4:45 PM)
Harry did like good food and beer. And if he were alive, he'd probably like Eva Green as well. Foster's got durability issues but the RB corps is so thin this year that he makes for a very good RB3. Keep him at that price.
All available (Denver Offense)
Who do you take Welker, Caldwell, or Latimer? Thanks
KC Joyner (4:46 PM)
Injuries and all, would still take Welker.
Jeff Spicoli (Ridgemont High)
Aloha KC, would Ray Rice make a viable RB2 after his suspension? What's your take on the BALT backfield in general? Aloha!
KC Joyner (4:47 PM)
Was expecting a Phoebe Cates reference on that one. Rice isn't the best fit for the Kubiak cutback run scheme. Am thinking of him as a mid- to high-RB3 because of that.
Eva(n) Green(e) (Hollywould)
2-for-1 Cowboys question. Does DeMarco Murray have a legit shot at top 5 status in PPR leagues. If he goes down, does Lance Dunbar take over as the lead back, and does he have RB2 value?
KC Joyner (4:48 PM)
Creative! DeMarco ranks 7th on my RB PPR board right now so he definitely has a legit shot at top 5 status. Dunbar could post RB2 caliber numbers for the short term, just not quite as sold on his long-term value if Murray gets hurt.
WWF Attitude Logo > (New WWE Logo)
Would you hold onto Josh Gordon in a keeper league if you can keep him for a 10th round pick next year?
KC Joyner (4:50 PM)
Could not agree more on the logo. But then again, just about everything from the attitude era is better than today's wrestling. Generally speaking, would hold on to Green for that value.
Horshack (Buchanan High School)
Oooh. Oooh. I know you don't move rankings around in the preseason much since you are working off last year's metrics, but are there any guys you see making moves up or down in the past few weeks.
KC Joyner (4:51 PM)
The limit on rankings changes has as much to do with my not trusting preseason performances than it does leaning on last year's numbers. Cam recently dropped a bit on the QB charts, Fred Jackson moved up and RG3 moved down a ton.
john claytons ponytail (bristol)
are you expecting a bounceback from crabtree in the contract year?
KC Joyner (4:52 PM)
John rules. Great reporter and a heckuva nice person to boot. Crabtree will get a bounce back as much from improved health as he will anything else. Got him pegged a low-end WR2 and could rank him even higher.
eva greener (buffalo)
if you had to pick one player in the entire nfl that most reminds you of an arbys roast beef sandwich, who would it be?
KC Joyner (4:53 PM)
I really don't have an answer to this question but had to post it.
Waiver Wire (ESPN Leauge)
Miles Austin worth a look or Floyd for SD?
KC Joyner (4:53 PM)
Been an Austin backer for years but he's in a terrible offense. Would trust a SD WR more.
James Bond (unknown)
KC let me tell you about Eva Green..where do you rank Lynch among RBs? If you could pull Gio and J. Bell for him would you?
KC Joyner (4:55 PM)
I'm all ears, Mr. Bond. Got Lynch ranked 7th among RBs in a standard league. Having said that, Gio and Joique rank 11th & 18th, respectively, on the RB charts. Would rather have two strong RBs than one, so would make a trade for those two.
Possible Answer to Arby's Question (Drumroll...)
Maurice Jones-Drew! Anyway, my question is: Murray, Demaryius, or Ball at #10 overall?
KC Joyner (4:56 PM)
Punch line! Got Ball rated highest.
Green, Eva (Is The Place To Be)
See what I did there? Please rank J.Bell, T.Gerhart, B.Tate.
KC Joyner (4:57 PM)
Very cool! Have to note - Zsa Zsa Gabor's got nothing on Eva Green. Got Bell ranked highest, followed by Tate and Gerhart (though those last two are very closely ranked).
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (Cockpit)
We had our 14 team .5 ppr draft on Tuesday night and there seemed to be a glitch with the online draft on a site not to be mentioned here (not ESPN). One team had the system auto pick 3 kickers. It started with the 7th pick in the 7th round when a team tried to draft Eric Decker and instead got the Broncos D/ST. 2 teams are threatening to quit the league and are being abusive to the commissioner. There have been a few suggestions and wanted to get your thoughts on them. 1. Complete live redraft 2. pick up the draft at the beginning of the 7th round 3. Leave the draft the way it is and move onWhat would you do as commissioner?
KC Joyner (4:59 PM)
My choice would be to pick up the draft in Round 7. It does the league no good overall when picks are mixed up like that. And any owner who is OK with letting those picks stand might not feel the same way if they were on the losing end of that deal. Get the season off to a good start by picking up in Round 7.
Pitta the Fool (Rocky 3)
Mr T. Here,KC! I have Pitta & Ertz. Like T.Wright or Gates over either?
KC Joyner (5:00 PM)
Where's Roddy Piper when you need him? Would keep Pitta and Ertz. Wright is iffy and Gates may lose PT to Green.
KC Joyner (5:01 PM)
That was a fun hour! Got to hit the road, as I'm already a bit late to my son's flag football practice. Quick note before heading out - please follow me on Twitter @KCJoynerTFS or like my Facebook page (Facebook.com/KCJoynerTFS). I answer as many questions as possible on those pages as well. Thanks again for the great questions and I hope to see you all here next week!
