Chat with USC playmaker Reggie Bush!
![]() |
Reggie "The President" Bush has been hailed by several analysts as the most exciting player in college football. The multi-talented sophomore tailback is third in the nation in all-purpose yardage at 213 yards per game. He has 330 yards rushing, 196 yards receiving and 325 yards on punt and kick returns, while scoring a USC-leading 7 touchdowns on the season.
In helping lead USC to a 4-0 start, he already has 13 plays of 20 yards or more. Whether it's running the ball, receiving or returning kicks, he is a threat to score from almost anywhere on the field.
Send in your questions and comments to Reggie now, and join him in The Show on Thursday at approximately 9:30 p.m. ET!

The ShowGirl (9:34 PM)
Hey evervybody, it's almost Reggie Bush time! The Trojans are practicing a little late tonight, but as soon as Reggie gets off the field and out of those pads, he'll be taking your questions right here. Hang tight!
Reggie Bush (9:43 PM)
Hey everybody, I'm here and ready for your questions!
Jin: (Richmond, Calif.)
Hi Reggie, You're being used quite a lot as a wide out. Did you play reciever in high school as well? What are your thoughts on our recievers this year? Alumni '02
Reggie Bush (9:45 PM)
Yes, in high school I played running back and receiver. THe coaches are really comfortable with me being split out and that's really one of the reason why I came here -- to be used in multiple ways. It's really working out.
Mike (L.A)
Reggie: I understand that your decision of which school to attend came down to SC and Notre Dame; Was there something you didn't like about Notre Dame? How did you decide not to go to South Bend?
Reggie Bush (9:46 PM)
It really came down to the little things. HOw close I was to home and my parents and family. I didn't want them to have to play thousands of dollars just to get to the games and watch me play. The weather out here was a factor. Just lots of little things.
Tom Femm (Washington, DC)
Reggie, what made you come to USC where you have to share carries instead of going to a school where you could have been the main man all four years?
Reggie Bush (9:48 PM)
I really wanted to play for a team that I felt like would be a national contender. I don't like to shy away from competition, that's one of my big things. Sure it would be great to go to a school where I would be the feature back, but I don't feel like I lost any of that by coming to SC. I'm still the feature back. I was still able to make an impact right away.
Vin (LA)
Hey Reggie! What weight are you playing at this year? Have you put on more since last year? Do you plan on putting on more over the next few years, especially as you transition to the next level?
Reggie Bush (9:49 PM)
Yeah, I definitely did. I put on about 7 pounds, I got stronger and put on more muscle. I really focussed on getting bigger and stronger this summer.
Reggie Bush (9:49 PM)
I'm playing about 200 pounds.
chris severna park,md
so whats it like playing with matt leinart? I'm a huge usc fan my dads an alum.
Reggie Bush (9:50 PM)
Matt's a really great QB. He is really smart and really knows his position. He is a great leader and a great person to be around. We follow behind him who leads us.
Tyler (West Branch, MI)
Reggie, I think you are the most versataile player in college, and I was wondering if you contribute that to god given talent, rigorous preparation, or a little of both?
Reggie Bush (9:51 PM)
I contribute it to a lot of things. God definitely blessed me with special talent. I also credit the rest of the offense. It's not just a one man show out there, a lot of folks contribute to a touchdown.
kevin(tamaqua,pa)
Hey reggie!!! im a big fan of yours and i was wondering if you are going to paticipate in track in the spring?
Reggie Bush (9:52 PM)
Yes, I plan on running track this year. Last year I had knee surgery so I couldn't, but this year I will.
Michael (Lomita,California)
Hey Reggie, I think You and Marshall Faulk share the same running style, and the city of San Diego. Have you to ever met? Fight on! Beat CAL!
Reggie Bush (9:52 PM)
Nope, I never met Marshall Faulk -- but I would love to! Hopefully I do get to talk to him someday.
Toneyallan@hotmail.com (New Orleans)
Reggie: What is Norm Chow like in practice? Anyway, we're all pulling for you here in the Big Easy. I've converted some LSU fans into SC fans!!!
Reggie Bush (9:54 PM)
Thanks! Norm is a great coach, he's really smart at developing plays and creating action on the field and getting the ball into the hands of playmakers. He is very wise.
Jin (Richmond)
How does playing Carson Palmer differ from our Matt Leinart?
Reggie Bush (9:55 PM)
I didn't really get to play with Carson too much, but I think Matt has done a great job stepping into the shoes of a Heisman Trophy winner. It didn't seem like we missed a beat at all when Matt took the reigns.
Robert H. (St. Paul, MN)
How do you feel about appearing in video games, such as NCAA 2005 by EA Sports? Do you think the video game can do you justice?
Reggie Bush (9:56 PM)
I think it's really cool. It's something I've always looked forward to. It's cool playing with yourself and see all the attributes they portray in you and seeing if they are correct. It very cool.
Dom (Bay Area)
Yo Reggie. Been a believer since your junior year at Helix High! Covered you for the HS Sports radio show in SD. Have you tried to convince Coach Carroll to let you run the fake punt? Keep it up, kid. Can't wait for you to hit the pros.
Reggie Bush (9:57 PM)
Thanks Dom. Actually, last year we did have a punt fake in there with me but we never used it, we ended up not needing it I guess. It's in there, but I'm not sure we'll ever use it.
JD (Los Angeles)
So Reggie, I'm at the Stanford game and I'm yelling at you from the stands to quit dancing around and run straight forward on your punt returns to get positive yardage and then you juke and jive your way to a critical 33 yard return that sets up the game winning TD...I'll shut up from now on!
Reggie Bush (9:58 PM)
Ha ha. It's difficult, you know. Punt returns aren't the easiest thing. You want to just get up the field but it looks different from the sidelines than when you are actually looking at guys coming at you. Of course, in the back of my mind, I'm always trying to get up the field. I promise.
Steven (Whittier, CA)
Keep up the hard runnin Reggie. You and Lendale will make it to the big leagues no problem if you keep up the good work. So, how do you think you'll fare against cal next weekend? DO you expect you or Lendale to get more carries in this game, I know you'll flank but do you expect to run a lot this game? Last year you and Lendale didnt play much against cal, this year it will hopefully be differnt! FIGHT ON!
Reggie Bush (10:00 PM)
Yes, we know Cal will bring their A-game. We're not exactly sure how our complete game plan will go. We'll have to see what pans out later on next week.
Suge (Los Angeles, CA)
Reggie, most running back combos seem to be rife with jealousy. What was it like when you first got to SC and Lendale and Hershel were there? How did you guys smooth things out? (I'd also like to say that you are a great representative of USC. Keep those studies up.)
Reggie Bush (10:01 PM)
When I first got here, we knew that we were all equally talented. We knew we just had to go in there when we each got the chance and make plays. There is no jealously at AT ALL amongst us. We all just want to make those plays.
Ben (Anaheim, CA)
Is practice harder than games? I'm hearing that it's all american vs. all american on the practice field, what's it like going against the #1 defense every day in practice?
Reggie Bush (10:02 PM)
Oh man, it's really tough. We feel like if we practice hard enough, practice SHOULD be harder than the games. We feel like we are the number one offense and we do go up against the number one defense. So, for us, the way we look at it, the games should be the fun part.
Wes (Comanche, TX)
Reggie: What is the one team on your schedule that you are most worried about and why? I understand it's one week at a time, but who is the one that's gonna be toughest?
Reggie Bush (10:04 PM)
Well, obviously when you look at Cal, they are a great team who beat us last year. That's a big one for us and the media is really playing this one up. ... Oregon State is playing pretty good this year and so is Arizona State, so I think those games will be tougher than most.

Aaron (Indianola, IA)
Hey Reggie, congrats on the year you are having so far and the success you will continue with. Just got a quick question for you. When you first came to USC, did you expect to be in the position you are in now or did you think it would take a few years before you exploded on to the national scene?
Reggie Bush (10:07 PM)
I knew that it would only be a matter of time before I got my shot to show the coaches what I could do. I had no doubt in my mind that once I was given that shot, things would open up for me. I just had to have some patience and now here I am with the chance to make plays.
Reggie Bush (10:08 PM)
Alright everybody, I've got to run. Thanks for all the questions and support. Tune in and check us out on October 9 vs. Cal! Good night!
The ShowGirl (10:09 PM)
Thanks for joining us tonight, folks. That's it for tonight. We're back tomorrow morning live with The Daily Quickie at 9 a.m. ET. See you then!
