Jay (Mpls, MN)
Describe the feeling that was the first time you KO'd somebody!
Juan Diaz (1:08 PM)
It felt real good! It was like a feeling I can't explain. To hit somebody and they don't get up .. it's a little scary!
Eric Moss
What has been the key to your success? What is the biggest reason you are undefeated?
Juan Diaz (1:09 PM)
I think the biggest reason is I train so hard. Hard work really does pay off. If you work hard at something, you can do whatever you want.
Jason (Austin, TX)
Juan.. who is your boxing idol? Who was your favorite fighter growing up?
Juan Diaz (1:09 PM)
I would hav to say Julio Ceasar Chavez.
Tim, Jersey City, NJ
Juan -- Congratulations on your thrilling victory in July! I saw your younger brother Jose was added to the card -- what's harder for you watching Jose fight for stepping into the ring against someone like Lorcy. Good Luck!
Juan Diaz (1:10 PM)
Oh man, watching my brother fight is tough! I get more nervous when he fights!
carlos norwalk ct
what up champ i just wanted to know how do u keep in shape the way u do? and how many meals a day do u eat? (thax 4 ur time)
Juan Diaz (1:11 PM)
I try to eat 4-5 small meals a day. Not big meals. I keep it small because one big meal can turn to fat really quick. I use a StairMaster for 45 minutes a day and swim.
Scott ( Yokosuka, Japan)
juan how do you feel for ur first title defense? is there pressure coz ur the youngest world champ?
Juan Diaz (1:11 PM)
A little bit of pressure. Everybody wants to see what I can do in my first title defense. So there is some added pressure but I like it.
Roland - California
Since you are are studying law, do you think boxing is a dirty sport? Does it need to be cleaned up?
Juan Diaz (1:12 PM)
I don't think it's so much a dirty sport. It's just a lot of guys let the money go to their head. If guys like myself can prove that not all boxers are like that, we can help the sport.
Ashley
Do you have a girlfriend?
Juan Diaz (1:12 PM)
Yes, I do!
Dawson, Houston
Hey Juan, I'm Canadian and I'm in Houston 'til Christmas. I wish your fight was here; I'd love to check it outm live. Do you train here? Good luck tomorrow!
Juan Diaz (1:13 PM)
Yes, I do all of my training in Houston. My trainers don't have any problem getting me to do what I am supposed to do.
marcus (Coffeyville )
what is your opinion on the boxing realtiy shows?
Juan Diaz (1:14 PM)
I have watched them. The Oscar de la Hoya one. I didn't' think it was very good. The things they had them doing, it doesn't prove anything.
Dusty
What made you want to go into pre-law?
Juan Diaz (1:14 PM)
A lot of people need good representation and can't afford it. I hope to help them out.
Yagin/Tacoma,WA
Would you consider a bout with Brian Viloria? That would be a great boxing match, which would be exciting and I would pay to see.
Juan Diaz (1:15 PM)
He is in a much lower category than me so I don't think that would ever come about.
Celeste, Houston
From your friends here at UH-Downtown. We'll be cheering for you!
Juan Diaz (1:15 PM)
Thanks!
Angel- Brooklyn, New York
I admire that you are a champion and a student, but how do you manage your time between boxing and books?
Juan Diaz (1:16 PM)
I do the boxing in the morning beceause I have such intense training. I go to school right after the gym. If I go home inbetween I will get lazy and not want to go.
Rich (Dallas, TX)
Do you think training in the heat and humidity of Houston give you an advantage? If you could arrange a fight with anyone in boxing history, who would you want to face?
Juan Diaz (1:17 PM)
I think the humidity here does help me. I train in a gym and it gets to close to 100 degrees in the gym. When I fight in the arenas, it's about 75 degrees. So I have a lot of energy during the fight. I'm not sure I would want to fight anybody back in the day .. they were so good!
kenny (NYC)
Do you ever plan on moving up to Jr Walterweight 140?
Juan Diaz (1:17 PM)
Yes, that is in the plans. I plan to stay lightweight for awhile and hopefully unify and move up.
Daryl: Incirlik AB, Turkey
You're a bad ass!
Juan Diaz (1:18 PM)
Thanks!
Dawson, Houston
Any upcoming plans for what will be your next move? Or are you concentrating strictly on this fight?
Juan Diaz (1:18 PM)
Right now I am all about this fight. I never look ahead. You have to conentrate on the guy right in front of you.
Jason Brooklyn, New York
What keeps you motivated when you enter the ring to win against your opponents?
Juan Diaz (1:19 PM)
It's hard to make the weight and do all the training. It gets old quick. But everytime they raise my hand and everyone screams, I feel like I am on top of the world. That keeps me going.
Carlos Moreno (Houston, TX)
Juan, Bring it home!!! You can do it!!! Good luck to you and tell Jose I said good luck!!!
Jose Chicago, Il
Juan, i'm sure you recognize that the latino community is a great supporter of boxing. Being that we are one of the largest minority groups in the country and spreat out all over. Have you ever thought of staging one of your big fights in a town like Chicago? I can definetly see you becoming an even bigger fan favorite, good luck witht the fight!
Juan Diaz (1:21 PM)
I think right now I want to fight in a different city every time. But the promoters make all the deals and wherever they can benefit, that is where I fight. But I would love to fight in Chicago someday! Thanks for all the questions! I really appreciate all your support. Thank you for your prayers and good luck and all the moral support!
Buzzmaster (1:23 PM)
Thanks, Juan! Good luck with the big fight tomorrow night!
Buzzmaster (1:25 PM)
