Lacrosse star Kyle Harrison will be here at 4 ET to take your questions and help celebrate the launch of ESPNU! ESPNU is available on DirecTV Channel 609, or you can call your cable operator and tell them you want ESPNU on your local system.
Kyle Harrison (3:59 PM)
I'm here and ready for your questions! I'm pretty excited about the new ESPNU! Let's go!
Tony (Reno, NV)
Kyle, How much pressure is on the Jays to win it all this year? Will you be disappointed if JHU doesn't win the title this season? Good Luck!
Kyle Harrison (4:00 PM)
I think everyone would be disappointed if we don't reach the ultimate goal. The unfortunate thing is only one team can be happy at the end of the season. As a senior, you become very reflective and I know I will never forget this time.
Pete Rinto, Medina, OH
Who has been the toughest indiviual opponent you've faced since being at Hopkins?
Kyle Harrison (4:01 PM)
That's a tough question. I guess in terms of defense, it is probably Brett Hughes from Virginia. As far as facing off, probably Jack DeVilliers.
Peter(springfield,va)
Who will start in goal tomorrow against Princeton?
Kyle Harrison (4:02 PM)
I'm not sure yet. Have to wait till tomorrow to see!
Dave (TX)
Kyle, I've followed your career at Hopkins since you were a freshman and have watched you develop into one of the best shooters in the game. What are some of things things that you worked on to improve your shooting on the run with both hands?
Kyle Harrison (4:03 PM)
When I came to college I wasn't a very good shooter. I got to where I am just by shooting as much as possible. I get out there with three guys and take about 200 shots a day. It's all about repetition.
Greg (Watertown, MA)
Kyle, any idea if your going to play in the MLL this summer? If you do, what team would you most want to play for?
Kyle Harrison (4:03 PM)
If I am fortuntate enough to be drafted I would love to play. I would just love to play in the league, I don't care where.
Dan--Cranberry Township, PA
Kyle--good luck against P-ton tomorrow. How are the new rules on the Face Off effecting your techniques? What type of changes have you made? And lastly, how do you see the new rules changing the game? Thanks
Kyle Harrison (4:04 PM)
The new rules actually work for guys like myself who like to get the ball out quick. We are all still adjusting but hopefully it will work out well for us.
Lee (Florida)
How come small schools like yours and Hobart always seem to be competitive with the Syracuses and Virginias?
Kyle Harrison (4:05 PM)
I think Hopkins has such a rich tradition that its just a place players want to come. I had my mind made up to play Lacrosse here. It's an amazing opportunity.
bowie, md
In your 4 years at Hopkins, have you seen any freshman more polished than Paul Rabil?
Kyle Harrison (4:06 PM)
You know, I don't want to jinx him, but no I haven't. His knowledge and work ethic is amazing. He works tirelessly. He is always watching film, practicing, etc. He is going to be special.
Kim (Baltimore, MD)
Kyle - good luck tommorow. How do you like playing for Coach Petro and can you talk about his intensity on the field
Kyle Harrison (4:07 PM)
We all love him. Some fans see him as very intense and out of control but he's not that at all. He gets the best out of us. I think we reflect his intensity as a team.
Paul (Philly Pa)
Is this the year Syracuse's 22 year streak of final fours ends?
Kyle Harrison (4:08 PM)
I don't go to Syracuse so I can't say! But I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't. They have another great team.
Gavin (Baltimore)
WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE SPORT WHRN YOU WERE YOUNGER
Kyle Harrison (4:09 PM)
Lacrosse right now is just becoming my favorite sport. I was a basketball player growing up. My senior year in HS I started getting into lacrosse.
Steve (Barrie, Ontario Canada)
Being a Canadian, what do I need to do to be seen by more American coaches? What is recruiting like by a big time university such as Johns Hopkins? Thank you kindly.
Kyle Harrison (4:10 PM)
My advice is to get down here and get to as many camps as possible. NY and Long Island have lots of camps. Just being around lacrosse, I know most coaches check out those camps to see the talent. It's hard during the year to get to Ontario obviously.
Hannah (167 career lax goals) (St Vincent College 2004)
So who is gonna win the NCAAB tourney?
Kyle Harrison (4:11 PM)
I have no idea! Being from Baltimore I would love to say Maryland. But I think I'll go with Wake.
Shawn (Sioux Falls)
Most of these questions are from the East coast, why do you think that Lacrosse, has had a hard time spreading to other areas of the country, such as the Midwest??
Kyle Harrison (4:12 PM)
I think the MLL and the indoor league are doing a good job. I was fortunate enough to work a camp in San Diego last summer and the kids were amazing. Once they learn the game better, it will just continue to grow.
John (LaCrosse WI)
Hey Kyle do they do drug testing for Lacrosse?
Kyle Harrison (4:12 PM)
Yes. I was drug tested. They do 7 people at Final Four weekend. But yes, we do have testing.
Doug (Lancaster, CA)
what are you plans after SChool. You planning on working at the New U? ESPNU that is
Kyle Harrison (4:13 PM)
That would be great to work for ESPNU! I'm not real sure what my plans are. I haven't finalized anything. I just want to enjoy my last few months playing the game I love.
Alex (L.A., CA)
What is the one most important thing a young lacrosse player can do/work on to improve his game the most?
Kyle Harrison (4:14 PM)
I think the most important thing is to play wall ball consistenly. A brick wall is your best friend. Do as much as you can with both hands. If you can develop two hands at a young age, that's a huge weapon.
Doug (Lancaster, CA)
are there any Lacrosse teams here on the west coast? Do you play any?
Kyle Harrison (4:15 PM)
I never have. The farthest was a team from Texas in high school. They were OK. We didn't play very well though. We scored in the last 10 seconds to win.
Cory Phillips (Stillwater)
Hey Kyle, i play for OSU here in oklahoma and we are all watchin ya'll as much as we can, just wanted to say that ya'll are awesome, and good luck this year
Kyle Harrison (4:16 PM)
Wow. That's great to hear. I appreciate that. Great to know people are watching.
Kyle (Manassas, Virginia)
Are you going to Johns Hopkins on a lacrosse scholarship? If so, how were you discovered?
Kyle Harrison (4:17 PM)
Yes. Like I said earlier, I went to camps. I went to one in Baltimore with a bunch of freshman and sophomores. We were split up and played games. The sidelines were filled with coaches.
Connor (Michigan)
What is your most memorable lacrosse game?
Kyle Harrison (4:18 PM)
The Syracuse Final Four game my soph. year. We just went down 0-4 in the first. That was terrible. We just didn't quit and fought our way back to win. We lost in the championship the next day. But that game was reflective of that particular team.
CDW (Indiana)
Were you the lacrosse player featured on ESPN the other day?
Kyle Harrison (4:19 PM)
Yes, it was me. My father played for Morgan St. He and a couple buddies formed the first black college men's team. ESPN picked up the story and wanted to get it out there. Unfortunately a year or two after they have success, the program was disbanded. It's a pretty amazing story. I'm really happy for my father that he got some credit. They worked me into the story at the end. Those guys deserved the credit though.
JOHN :F'DLE NY
KYLE: CONGRATULATIONS ON A GREAT CAREER AT HOPKINS. HOW WILL PRINCETON'S DEFENSE ATTACK HOPKINS OFFENSE
Kyle Harrison (4:20 PM)
Thanks for the compliment. I'm not exactly sure. We will be ready for everything. I'm sure he has some schemes lined up. Zone, man to man, whatever they give us we will be ready.
Jaun Piere (Puerto Rico)
Kyle - If you could play any other college sport at any other college what and where would it be?
Kyle Harrison (4:21 PM)
I would want to be a basketball player at UNC!
David (McLean VA)
Kyle, Any information you can share about Matt RewKowski and his injury? Is there a specific game plan for his return?
Kyle Harrison (4:22 PM)
I think Matt is just a great, tough kid. He has been working really hard and should be back soon.
Billy D (Baltimore)
Kyle, how much fun are you having playing with Benson for what, the 12th straight year?
Kyle Harrison (4:22 PM)
It's been a lot of fun. He has been my best friend and a teammate since third grade! It's been a fun ride. He is the best def. middie in the country.
Rick (NJ)
do you think Princeton is down this year after losing Ryan Boyle, Damion Davis, Owen Daly and Brad Dumont in the last few seasons?
Kyle Harrison (4:24 PM)
I think all the players you listed would be tough to lose for anyone. But Coach Tierney is a great recruiter. They still have great, young players. I would never count Princeton out.
Seamus (Dublin, Ireland)
Kyle, have you and your teams ever played outside of the US
Kyle Harrison (4:24 PM)
Yes. I got to play in eighth grade to play in England. It was a great experience.
ben(springfield,va)
what would you say are the most important attributes of an all american middie such as you?
Kyle Harrison (4:25 PM)
I think the most important is to just be able to do everything on the field. You have to do all the intangibles. It's not always about goals. You have to do it all.
Paul (Philly Pa)
Taking Hopkins out of the equation, which team do you think is the best in the Country?
Kyle Harrison (4:26 PM)
I think you have to go with Syracuse. They are the defending champs and still have a great team. They are No. 1 until somebody proves otherwise.
Eric (Florida)
What kind of head/shaft combination will you be using this season?
Kyle Harrison (4:27 PM)
I am using a Proton head by SPX and a Saber pole by SPX as well.
Shawn (Maryland)
You are perhaps the greatest groundball guy I have ever seen. Is it your intangibles that make you so good, or do you have a way of practicing getting gbs?
Kyle Harrison (4:28 PM)
I don't think there is a way to practice it really. It comes down to who wants it more. You have to be more determined than the other guy.
Michael (High Point, NC)
Can the Tarheels ever compete for a national championship?
Kyle Harrison (4:30 PM)
I think they are really close. We played them in the QF last year and they gave us a great game. They have been right there for 3-4 years. It's going to happen soon enough. Once you get to the playoffs there are no easy games though. They have another great team and should be there this year. Thanks for the questions! I appreciate all you writing in .. I never thought people would respond like this.. take care!
