Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (12:12 PM)
Hey everyone this is Scouts Inc.'s Jeremy Green ready to kick off your 2006 NFL Draft coverage. The Texans are on the clock.
i believe that mario williams was the perfect choice for the texans
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (12:14 PM)
I would have to disagree with you Chad. Reggie Bush was the #1 player in this draft. Bush can change the game and open the field up for everyone. Williams is a very good pass rusher, but he is not going to change games.
Am I the only one who thinks the Texans should have traded down? They should have traded for the
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (12:17 PM)
Once it became clear that Williams was their guy they worked the phones, but could not find any takers. Due to the compensation it is very hard for teams to trade out of that #1 slot.
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (12:19 PM)
The Saints are on the clock.
chris (new orleans)
should the saints trade down or take the pick
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (12:21 PM)
They should stay true to their board and take Bush right here. Deuce is coming off an ACL and like he would have with D. Davis, they will compliment each other very well.
Change games? I would rather have Williams who could possibly make the whole defense better than an individual who has game changing ability
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (12:24 PM)
You could say the same for Bush on offense. Not only is he a great player, but he makes Carr a better QB. He also opens up the field for WRs Andre Johnson and Eric Moulds.
The Packers need defense, should take Hawk.
will buffalo draft Lienart or will they trade it away?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (1:23 PM)
They are really trying to trade the pick right now. They will not take Leinart right here.
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (1:23 PM)
By the way guys. Sorry, we had some major communication issues and the system was down. We should be good to go from here on in though.
arizona sees Lienart may trade up?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (1:24 PM)
Arizona definitely wants Leinart, but do not expect them to move to geet it done. Their grade on Cutler is just a little lower than Leinart's, so they will wait it out and see what happens.
will minnestoa move up to get cutler?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (1:25 PM)
If we see Cutler get past the Cardinals at #10, the Vikes will start working the phone lines.
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (1:26 PM)
That is the first wow of the day... Donte Whitner!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (1:28 PM)
I like Whitner and think he has a chance to be a good player, but you have to move back to make that pick. He is a guy they could have gotten a lot later.
do you think the eagles will take a wr?????????
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (1:30 PM)
The Eagles would like to move up and select DT Haloti Nagata. If they can't and both Nagata and Bunkley are off the board than WR will be the play.
Even though Arizona has Warner, do you think they'll take a qb?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (1:31 PM)
Take it from someone close to the situation... Matt Leinart is a lock at #10 if he falls past this pick.
Who will cleveland draft
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (1:32 PM)
The Browns pick is very interesting right now. We have been projecting the DT Nagata, but there has been a little push for the OLB Wimbley in recent days.
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (1:33 PM)
The Lions take Ernie Sims.
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (1:34 PM)
Great pick by the Lions. This guy is one of the best leaders and hitters in this draft. Bobby Bowden has called him the best LB he coached since Derrick Brooks. I think that got HC Rod Maranelli's attention. He is an every down player in that cover 2 scheme. He is a playmaker.
Could Bunkley fall to 14???
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (1:36 PM)
Bunkley could defintely fall because there are some character issues. The fact that Buffalo passed on a DT that is a perfect fit in their system is a definite Red Flag.
THIS SHOULD BE MATTS BEST FIT
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (1:37 PM)
I agree. He goes to a nice weather team where the arm stength is not a huge issue. He has two great young receivers and an HC that knows how to develop young QB's.
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (1:38 PM)
St. Louis Rams are on the clock....
which wide recierver would the eagles selece?? Chad Jackson or Santonio Holmes?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (1:39 PM)
It appears that they are higher on Jackson, but I think Holmes is a much better fit for a West Coast team. He is guy that can make plays after the catch which is big in that offense.
Does this mean Jay Cutler falls to the Vikings?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (1:41 PM)
I think there is a very good chance Cutler goes right here. He is a perfect fit for Linehan's offense.
Who should the ravens really take at 13
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (1:42 PM)
The Ravens will take Nagata if he is there. They feel like he is that big run stuffer that has been missing the last few seasons.
what do you think about the raiders picking michael huff??
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (1:44 PM)
I think he was a "safe" pick. He is a steady DS. He is not a real explosive type of playmaker and he is a little on the smaller side for a DS, but he is smart, can get them lined up and will make his share of plays in the passing game.
do you think we will see a trade at all in the first round?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (1:46 PM)
Eventually we will. There is not expected to be as much movement this year though because a lot of GM's feel there is not a lot of separation from the players 15-45 in terms of ranking in this draft.
What was Buffalo thinking taking Whitner that high?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (1:46 PM)
Denver is on the clock!
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (1:47 PM)
Lets go with Cutler here.
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (1:49 PM)
Intersting pick for the Broncos. Doesn't do much for them this season, but they have to look to the future. Plummer is 31, had his best season last year and that still was not enough. The backup Van Pelt is not the long term solution, so this pick makes sense.
Were are the Browns gonna go?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (1:51 PM)
I think this should be Wimbley. It is hard to win in a 3-4 with ZERO pass rrushers. Wimbley is the best 3-4 OLB in this draft and may be able to have an immediate impact.
who do you see the Rams taking?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (1:52 PM)
We had it strong from people in their organization that they like Chad Greenway. This could work well for them - drop to 15 and still get the player you want.
who should the 49ers take at 22?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (1:54 PM)
They need to focus on defense. There are a few players that would make a quick impact and they are OLB Manny Lawson if he is there or DC Tye Hill from Clemson.
Ron from NJ
is baltimore screwed now that there's no QB for them?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (1:56 PM)
Not really. Baltimore never wanted another young QB. They will grab Steve McNair when the Titans release him.
Manny Lawson and Tye Hill could both be gone by 22
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (1:58 PM)
sure could. They need to find an OLB though. They lost their two best pass rushers. It doesn't matter who they have in the secondary if they do not find a way to get some pressure.
With Whitner gone, does Dallas aim for a DL or OLB?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (2:00 PM)
I talked to someone with the Cowboys earlier in the week about Whitner and they told me he was not their #1 target. He told me they were going OLB and Manny Lawson seemed like the target.
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (2:02 PM)
I'm going to jump off for a bit guys... Gary Horton from Scouts Inc is going to jump on and offer some of his analysis.
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (2:06 PM)
It's been a very interesting first round althoug not quite as crazy as we thought after we all kind of settled in with the Reggie Bush situation. Clearly the biggest reach right now seems to be Buffalo taking Whitner from Ohio St. Our sources told us Denver was trying to trade up to 8 to acquire Leinart or Cutler and Buffalo could have traded back to 15 and still gotten the guy they took at 8. That trade doesn't make a lot of sense.
Welcome Gary. Is Baltimore insane? One spot??
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (2:07 PM)
There was a feeling Cleveland was really considering Ngata at 12 because he is a perfect nose tackle for a 3-4. Baltimore only gave up a sixth round pick which isn't much to move up. It's not like they gave up a lot so it makes sense. They need someone to protect Ray Lewis.
With Ngata gone, does that mean that Brodrick Bunkley moves to the top of the Browns' draft board?
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (2:09 PM)
Probably. Bunkley actually fits the Browns well. He is a one gap penetrator. If the Browns want DL it was Ngata or Bunkley. But they could also go OLB here.
Great pick and trade by Oz. What is the Ray Lewis trade value now? What could we pick up for him?
IS it Bunkley at 14?
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (2:19 PM)
I would sure think so because he's a guy who's slipped a little further than w anticipated. And he fits a need, but I know Reid likes to build with trench guys. This pick would make sense but don't be surprised if they trade down. They liked the idea of trading back coming in.
who do you think will be the first rb picked and what team will pick him?
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (2:23 PM)
After Bush it will probably be Maroney. He seems to be the safest pick at RB but there are those who like DeAngelo Williams. I think both will go before White, but not for a while. We may not see another RB until the 20s.
Did Denver put there draft on the line by trading up to get Cutler?
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (2:26 PM)
No. In all honesty giving up that third-rounder isn't very steep for a guy they really wanted. Cutler's strong arm will fit nicely in Mile High. They can groom him behind Plummer. And it was obvious they wanted to move up because we heard they were trying to trade up with Baltimore.
Do you think we'll see the Rams go for a WR such as Chad Jackson to help their aged receiving core?
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (2:30 PM)
Ironically, we had Holmes slotted for this spot to Denver, now St. Louis is picking. If they don't go Greenway and fill a bigger need, then the best value is probably Jackson or Holmes. But that would be a bit o a luxury for a team that really has defensive needs. Don't rule out a corner, either. A guy like Cromartie has moved up the charts and you could see the Rams reaching a bit.
Buzzmaster (2:34 PM)
Just a note: Greg Kinnear and Mark Wahlberg, from the new Disney movie 'Invincible' will be here at 2:45. The movie tells the story of Vince Papale, the 30-year-old bartender who made the Eagles after an open tryout and became a cult hero in Philadelphia. Send your questions for Mark and Greg and check back at 2:45...
Should miami go with Winston Justice here?
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (2:36 PM)
I don't think so at all. A guy to look for here would be Manny Lawson. He' been hot the last two weeks, and as as an edge rusher he has Jason Taylor-like qualities. If not him, they could take Holmes or Jackson at WR or also look at Cromartie. This pick will be an athlete, though, and don't count out Saban trading down. He learned from Belichick how to maneuver in the draft.
If Miami doesn't go with Chad Greenway, he's a lock for Minnesota, right?
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (2:37 PM)
That makes all the sense in th world because their top need is at LB and no one thought he would be avilable. In fact, in the last few days it was difficult to give them and LB at this point because it looked like they would all be gone.
jeff - boca
Do you see the Dolphins picking up a cornerback to help the defensive scheme of nick saban?
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (2:40 PM)
Yeah. I don't think there's any questio nthey could go with a cover guy. Saban works out the players himself and I'm told he looked closely at Cromartie.
Yes, I see the Dolphins picking up a cornerback. The secondary needs improvement.
Buzzmaster (2:42 PM)
We're preparing for the arrival of Greg Kinnear and Mark Wahlberg!
Buzzmaster (2:42 PM)
Keep the questions coming!
Hey Kinnear, why are sports movies so hard to make? Seems most of them are flops and only a select few are any good.
Greg Kinnear (2:45 PM)
True. I don't know why so many are made and there's always an attempt tp capture some magic, and when it works it fantatic and when it doesn't it stiks up the field. This is a good film because it's a human story about a guy overcoming adversity. I was just having a beer with Vince backstage and he's still the man.
Greg, if there was a Hollywood Draft, who would you draft first?
Greg Kinnear (2:47 PM)
Well, I'm still waiting for them to call my name. Meanwhile, I guess right now you'd go with Jimmy Stewart. He still hasn't made the podium, but please stand by.
Greg, who is your team?
Greg Kinnear (2:48 PM)
I'm from Indiana so I have to be a Colts fan. But they weren't there when I was Indiana so I was always Bears fan. I decided when I moved to LA in the 80's I'd be a Rams fan but that didn't work out so well. Just hope I don't start rooting for your team!
Greg Kinnear (2:49 PM)
Thanks for the time!
Buzzmaster (2:50 PM)
Mark Wahlberg is here!
Mark, what was your favorite thing about Franklin Field when you were filming there last summer?
Mark Wahlberg (2:51 PM)
I liked being on the field but I didn't like being hit. It was hot on the field, 130 some days, but it was a dream come true to be out there.
mark, did the Texans make the biggest mistake in sports history?
Mark Wahlberg (2:52 PM)
I think passing on Vince Young was the biggest mistake the Texans and Saints made.
Mark what is your role in the movie? Do you play Vince?
Mark Wahlberg (2:52 PM)
Yes I do.
Raymond D. (Philly)
To Mark Wahlberg: Is the city of Philadelphia cursed? Great teams across the board only to come up short in the playoffs year after year, whether it's NFL, NHL, etc.
Mark Wahlberg (2:53 PM)
If the Red Sox can win the Series then the Philly teams can certainly win a championship. And I think the Eagles will be the first to do it.
In your opintion - who has the bigger perks a pro athlete or actor?
Mark Wahlberg (2:54 PM)
I'd have to say actors but in the sports world there is only one Michael Jordan.
Mark which film that you've been in would you consider your best?
Mark Wahlberg (2:58 PM)
Hard to say. I think my best is yet to come. Boggie NIghts certainly got the most praise, but the new one with Scorsese would be up there. And I'm doing 'We Own the Night' right now with Joaquin Phoenix and Robert Duvall, and that would be up there, too.
Mark Wahlberg (2:59 PM)
Thanks for the questions!
Buzzmaster (3:01 PM)
Be sure to check out the Disney film 'Invincible' in theatres August 25...And now, back to Scouts, Inc...
Buzzmaster (3:02 PM)
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd is up next to take us through the next hour!
Buzzmaster (3:02 PM)
Keith Kidd from Scouts, Inc., will be here in just a minute so keep those questions coming!
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (3:03 PM)
Hey everyone, I'll be talking about the NFL draft for the next hour. Let's get rolling with your questions.....
Korey (Des Moines)
What do you think of the Greenway selection by the Vikings?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (3:06 PM)
OLB was a number one need by the Vikings and the Vikings address that by taking Greenway. He should compete with WLB Dontarrious Thomas. Greenway also has enough versatility to play both OLB positions and has good special teams value. Solid pick for the Vikings.
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (3:06 PM)
San Diego Chargers are on the clock....
Will the Chiefs take Chad Jackson or trade down?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (3:09 PM)
I would hope thay would set tight and take either Santonio Holmes or address the corner position with Jimmy Williams.
What's your take on the Cowboys picking Carpenter? What about the Lendale White speculation or their needs at the safety position?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (3:12 PM)
The Cowboys are not real high on LOLB Al Singleton. Carpenter is a versatile player that fits well in a 34 defense. It's a little to high for Lendale White and the Cowboys can address their safety position in the second round with Ko Simpson out of South Carolina.
do you think the chargers can be as effecive as they were the past few years now with rivers running the offense instead of a proven QB like brees?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (3:15 PM)
The Chargers will struggle early in the season, while Rivers goes through his adjustments and growing pains. However, they do have a strong supporting cast which will help Rivers get into rhythm early in the season.
Should the Chargers pick the best Reciever or go with what they need a Corner?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (3:16 PM)
Look for the Chargers to address their DC position with Cromartie.
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (3:18 PM)
The Chargers select DC Antonio Cromartie..
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (3:18 PM)
The Kansas City Chiefs are on the clock...
are the chiefs going to trade down?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (3:20 PM)
No...I think they will sit tight and draft either DC or WR.
Do the Chiefs EVER address their corner needs...perhaps with Jimmy Williams? Or is it Hali here...
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (3:22 PM)
DC Jimmy Williams would address a major need for the Chiefs. He is a big physical, athletic DC that would fit in well in DC Gunther Cunningham schemes.
Todd (PCB, FL)
What college do you feel produced the best overall draft prospects this year? Seems like Florida State, Ohio State, and USC would be definate frontrunners.
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (3:26 PM)
Great question Todd. There have been four players from Florida State that have been taken in the first round. Sims, Bunkley, Wimbley and Cromartie.
Will the Bears take a TE or DB ?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (3:28 PM)
I look for the Bears to trade back and address their TE position early in the second round with either Pope or Lewis.
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (3:29 PM)
The Chiefs select DE Tamba Hali....
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (3:29 PM)
The New England Patriots are on the clock..
who do the pats get?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (3:33 PM)
The Patriots will addfress their linebacking core with OLB/DE Manny Lawson or they could select DC Jimmy Williams.
Nigel, London, England
Hey Keith, we looking OLB for the Pats? RB is fashionable but Dillon has a fat contract no?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (3:37 PM)
Dillon didn't play well in 05 and Faulk has some durability issues. The Patriots could also start the run of RB that are expected to come off the board between 21-32.
is ne loking to fill in ashworths spot?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (3:39 PM)
No, because the Patriots do a great job of developing offensive lineman later in the draft. The Patriots have one of the best offensive line coaches in the NFL in Donte Scarnecchia.
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (3:41 PM)
The Patriots select RB Laurence Maroney. Maroney is an excellent pick for the Patriots based on what they do offensivdely. He is a versatile player with value on all three downs.
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (3:42 PM)
The 49ers are on the clock....
49ers going for Williams?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (3:44 PM)
Andrew, look for the 49ers to select a defensive player with this pick. Manny Lawson would be a great pick for the 49ers with this pick.
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (3:45 PM)
The 49ers select OLB Manny Lawson....
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (3:45 PM)
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are on the clock....
Does TB try and shore up their line with Justice
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (3:47 PM)
This could be a very good value pick. The Bucs have major needs on the offensive line and I like Justice with the 23rd pick.
Does Tampa Bay have a back up running back, if not can they draft DeAngelo Williams
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (3:50 PM)
Michael Pittman is a good backup RB and the Bucs should address other needs on their football team (OT, OC, OLB).
it seems that the bengals offense cant get much better do you think they will go with defense with their first round pick?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (3:55 PM)
The Bengals have talked about using the 34 defense and the players they have targeted are off the board. The Bengals could go with either TE Marcedes Lewis or DC JImmy Williams.
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (3:58 PM)
The Buccaneers select OG Davin Joseph....
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (3:59 PM)
The Cincinnati Bengals are on the clock....
Do you think the Giants will take D. Williams if he is available
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (4:05 PM)
The Giants spent a lot of money this off-season on defense, so it's about time they address the offensive side with WR/RS Sinorice Moss.
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (4:06 PM)
Thanks for all your questions and I will be back later in the draft. Scouts INC Gary Horton is up next.
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:07 PM)
Giants are on the clock...
Do you think the Giants should go Defense and address the secondary, or go after Eric WInston from Miami-FL
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:10 PM)
Remember, Justice is still on the baord. When the Giants signed Arington a week ago it opened up this pick. They could go with a big man on either side of the ball, or a WR like Moss, even though Holmes is still on the board. The one thing I know about the Giants is they are true to their board and the guy they have rated highest is the one they will pick, and it may not be a pressing need. Moss is an Ernie Accorsi kind of guy.
Shouldn't the Giants address the need of a RB since Tiki is wearing down and Brandon Jacobs is not the answer?
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:12 PM)
That's definitely a possibility with Williams and White on the board, although White might be a little risky for them. I think they wanted to come ou of this draft with a young guy to groom, and as I said, the Arrington signing gave them the luxury of looking at other spots. There is good value right now at WR and RB.
Steve (Va Beach)
How has Jimmy Williams slipped this far? Will he go to the second round now?
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:16 PM)
He has had some character questions and he doesn't always play with a real sense of urgency. Even though he has great talent a lot of teams are afraid to roll the dice on a guy who has questionable intangibles. I've been told he also didn't interview well with teams. Right now he's just looking for a team comfortable with his character because his skills aren't in question. We've seen so far that teams are taking lower rated players at some positions who have better character without hesitation.
What are your thoughts on the Bengals pick of J. Joseph. Doesn't this seem like a bit of a reach
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:18 PM)
It seems a bit of a reach because you get the feeling he would have been there fou of five picks later. But at this stage it's who you're comfortable with. He has good skills and they obviously liked his attitude. And there are not a lot of guys with his skills available, so beauty is in the eye of the beholder right now.
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:19 PM)
I'm out of here, but Todd McShay is coming up...
Who is going to be the steal of the second round? Its ahsping up that there are going to be a lot of good players there.
Scouts, Inc's Todd McShay (4:24 PM)
At this point it could be any of the following should they fall: OT Winston Justice, WR Chad Jackson, DC Jimmy Williams and RB DeAngelo Williams.
With White and/or Williams still on the board will Carolina have to go for a RB?
Scouts, Inc's Todd McShay (4:27 PM)
It would make a lot of sense because of the value but DeAngelo Williams is the higher rated RB, while LenDale White is the better fit. That will make for a tough decision. If the Panthers pass on White, he could easily slip out of Round 1. Williams won't slip past Indy at 30, though.
How far will Chad Jackson fall? Is there another WR that will go in the next 15 picks besides Jackson?
Scouts, Inc's Todd McShay (4:30 PM)
there could be a home for Jackson in Chicago or Seattle. The Giants would be getting a great value for him at 32, as well.
Buzzmaster (5:06 PM)
Todd has to bolt but we're still going...
Buzzmaster (5:12 PM)
Lot of Giants fans in the room who think Kiwanuka was a questionable pick...Agree or disagree?
Pat (Belfast, PA)
Didn't the Giants just pull off a MAJOR stretch and a MAJOR bungle by drafting a position where they have two upper tier starters and a promising prospect (Justin Tuck)?
Should I be as excited as I am to see Kiwanuka go to the Giants? He could be a worthy understudy for the aging Michael Strahan, no?
Disagree--giants should have gone to the interior line on that pick
I think that was a very questionable pick.
Drew D (KC)
Kiwanuka is a good pick to groom while Strahan is still going. Could help spell either end in games
what are the jets doing trading down?
Does Washington draft Santana's little brother??
jordan the jets fan
the jets arent even on the board? whats goin on?
Buzzmaster (5:17 PM)
Traded the pick to Washington for a later second-rounder and a late-rounder this year, as well as a second-rounder this year...
I hope the jets draft patrick cobbs out of UNT
for what they got in return, that was an amazing trade for the jets. They're really setting up for the future.
They could have gotten a lot of value here that wont be there at the 53rd pick.
the jets had a perfect oppurtunity to take lendale, why do they do things like this every year
Chris (pocono lake, pa)
What are the chances of Philly moving up in the second round to get OT Justice or WR Jackson?
Buzzmaster (5:23 PM)
Who knows, but either would be a help for them...
I would love that. I'm a birds fan myself
not likely what do they really have to give
PACKERS NEED TO GET CHAD JACKSON WR FLA
I hope the Packers take Justice
Buzzmaster (5:25 PM)
Trade announced...New England is now on the clock. Let's see what kind of maneuvering Belichick has done here...
Buzzmaster (5:26 PM)
Gary Horton is back with us...
Not a fan of Jackson...nickname should be Softy
Buzzmaster (5:29 PM)
The reason he lasted this long is a lot of coaches I talked to thought he was more a product of the system and a lot of Florida WRs have had trouble in the NFL. Some thought he was sloppy running routes but he was definitely productive, and getting him at this spot is a huge benefit because they have not replaced David Givens. No one is better than Belichick at moving up. It seems in the last two weeks most offensive coaches I talked to favored Holmes over Jackson, but most thought the would both be gone by No. 20. And that lack of discipline in route-running will disappear under Belichick.
Pat Van Milligen
Gary, what do you think of the Packers trading down with Chad Jackson and Winston Justice on the board.
Gary Horton (5:34 PM)
Well, they've traded back up and are on the clock. They are either working this draft well or just realized there's a guy they can't wait on. It could be Justice. They traded Walker to Denver to get this pick, and the Broncos are a good fit. They thought the asking price was too steep for Walker earlier this week but the Packers held out and a second-rounder is good value for a guy asking out of town. It fills a need for Denver and rids Green Bay of a headache. The only problem it creates for Denver is that they had a TE targeted here and will probably lose him.
Buzzmaster (5:36 PM)
The Packers have now traded the No. 37 to Atlanta and the Falcons take Jimmy Williams from Virginia Tech...
great pick for the falcons... with deangelo hall and now jimmy williams on the corners
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (5:38 PM)
It's a great pick. It's rare to have two man-to-man cover corners. It makes the entire defense better. Character questions dropped him down a bit and this is a great value. They get Abraham from the Jets and now this. Not bad.
Do the Raiders go OLB?
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (5:40 PM)
That is a need for them but they will go for the best athlete on the board.
Maybe the Oakland "Davises" will pick up a TE
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (5:42 PM)
Actually, we projected them to take Marcedes Lewis in the second. In all honesty, there's not a guy right now who jumps out at one of their need areas. Expect this to me kind of exotic, maybe someone they worked out and seems like a reach.
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (5:42 PM)
Maybe Youboty from Ohio State?
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (5:43 PM)
Or Thomas Howard from UTEP...
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (5:44 PM)
He was a guy who caught some people's attention with workouts...Eagles are now on the clock after a trade...
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (5:46 PM)
They get Winston Justice a lot later than they expected. That's great value at No. 39...
Jeff (Kansas City)
Detriot needs a lot of help, where do they go here in the second round?
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (5:47 PM)
Probably on defense. We have them slotted to take CB Youboty from Ohio State and on that would give them two upgrades early on defense.
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (5:47 PM)
They would have looked long and hard at Justice, too.
The Lions should've made play Jimmy Williams or Winston Justice, two huge areas of need
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (5:49 PM)
Bullocks makes sense because Marinelli will play Cover-2, which puts an emphasis on athletic safeties. That may be even more important than a corner.
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (5:49 PM)
They wanted Huff in the first round so this is the next best thing.
Do you see the Bears taking a TE or CB?
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (5:50 PM)
TE is a huge need for them.
Does Pope fall to the Rams now with the Bears passing on him?
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (5:59 PM)
He's in line for any of the next few picks along with Anthony Fasano. A lot of potential homes in the next few picks, and we might even see Denver make a move up and go after Fasano, who they love.
The Giants just stole Moss away from Vince Young! Now what's Tennessee to do? Get somebody to protect his back like Winston?
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (6:16 PM)
We didn't have WR as a top need for Tennessee, but I can tell you the Giants loved Moss and GM Accorsi loves small, fast WRs like Ernest Givins who can also return kicks. This is an explosive guy. I like the move to go up and get him.
what do the rams do with thier next pick
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (6:20 PM)
This could be TE Leonard Pope, the best LB on their board or maybe someone like DT Gabe Watson. If it's not defense I think it will be a TE. And Claude Wroten could be a possibility, too.
What a terrible pick by the Titans, how many talented backs do they think they need?
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (6:22 PM)
One would be good. They have numbers there but they aren't happy with the running game. He's an absolute steal here if he gets his act together. Remember, he knows Norm Chow's offense and he should be motivated after falling. The Titan's don't have a 25-carry guy and White could fill that need.
Justin (St. Loius)
Did the Rams get the best TE available?
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (6:23 PM)
Most had Fasano and Pope ahead of Klopfenstein, but it's not really much of a reach because the Rams like the TEs to be physical blockers in the running game and Klopfenstein can do that. They have good WRs and don't need a lot from the TE in that area.
CEO (New York)
I'm surprised that Gabe Watson has not been drafted yet. He fills two gaps by just by being on the field. Maybe Green Bay might pick him up.
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (6:25 PM)
We're in Watson territory right now and you're right, there are not a lot of big, physical guys left.
Think the vikings look towards a QB with their next pick, maybe a brody croyle or charlie whitehurst or one of the other 2nd round QBs?
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (6:28 PM)
Yes. Childress wants a young guy to develop, though he would have preferred to trade for someone already in the league like Schaub from Atlanta. They have a QB targeted, definitely. Could be one of those two, or maybe Kellen Clemens.
I'm stunned Marcus McNeil is still out there! I guess the concerns about his injuries really hurt his stock. Where do you see him going now?
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (6:30 PM)
I also heard the injury reports -- back problems -- and it seemed those were a little stronger in the last few days. And offensive linemen with injuries make teams afraid becuase it restricts the ability to bend and also lift in the offseason. That adds up to a guy who could be stiff.
The cowboys need help in their secondary. Is Youboty the answer in this situation?
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (6:34 PM)
We had Youboty long gone before now so that would make a lot of sense to fill a need. But depending on their physicals they could use a takckle, someone like McNeill, who we talked about eariler.
Clemens was a good pick for the Jets but did they need to trade up for him?
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (6:41 PM)
They were likely concerned Minnesota would take him at No. 51 so they likely moved up to sneak one past the Vikings and make sure they got him.
Do you think the Vikings will be reaching if they take one of the remaining QB's with their next pick
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (6:43 PM)
No. Croyle wouldn't be a reach, but I don't know if he's their guy. They could trade down or maybe they think they can get Whitehurst in the next round if they like him. But if they like Croyle this is a good time to take him.
they should take their chances with croyle. he looks as if he could develop into a nice player after 2 seasons behind brad johnson
Do you think the Packers strategy, trading down to increase the total number of picks they have, will pay off?
Josh (Fort Worth, TX)
Was Ryans the right pick for the Texans? Would they have been better served taking one of the OT's?
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (6:48 PM)
Ryans is a clean player and fills a need with Houston thin at LB. They're going to a 4-3 and that required different personnel and it's a safe, solid pick for them.
Whats with this pick by the Vikings??? How about a QB here??
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (6:50 PM)
I have no idea, Jon. They have an All-Pro in Birk and it seems to be a reach even with Birk coming off injury. Maybe they think Ryan Cook projects to guard.
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (6:50 PM)
Scouts, Inc., had Cook projected in the fifth round...
is today the first 2 rounds or round 3 as well?
Buzzmaster (6:57 PM)
Three big rounds today, Marc...
Did the packers make the right decision with Jennings?
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (7:00 PM)
That's a good pick for the Packers. The Broncos had Jennings pegged as a sleeper and would have been a consideration for them soon. The Walker trade worked out well. He goes to Denver and Green Bay gets the guy they were looking at.
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (7:01 PM)
I now look for Denver to go after TE Anthony Fasano at No. 61. And they like him enough to maybe trade up.
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (7:02 PM)
But the Cowboys just killed that idea by taking Fasano.
Why take Fasano? The Cowboys already have Whitten
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (7:03 PM)
It gives them a chance to run a lot of Parcells' two-TE sets, and Fasano has great toughness as well as being steady as a receiver. A lot of people compare him to one of Parcells' all-time favorites, Mark Bavaro. Need I say more.
will the Dolphins use Jason Allen as a free safety or a cornerback and what position would he be better suited for
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (7:06 PM)
Hard to say. He could wind up at either spot. Safety is the bigger need because they like Williams when he plays close to the line of scrimmage, meaning they need a sure tackler and centerfielder alongside. But he could play corner as well and not be a liability against slot WRs.
Where do you project Brian Calhoun, is he the next RB in line?
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (7:10 PM)
Yes. We have him slotted for No. 60 to Jacksonville but he could go to the Giants or Denver before that.
Why would the Chiefs take a S? Don't they need people on the corners and at WR?
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (7:13 PM)
They definitely need a WR but I don't know that anyone is there to merit that pick. Their need is a lot more severe at CB than S, so this appears to be a 'best available athlete' pick. He doesn't look like a guy who could line up on the perimeter, though.
Who is more valuable for cincinnati right now, Pope or Youboty?
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (7:17 PM)
Pope. They need a guy to stretch the field and adding him to an already good passing game would be a nice pick. They already took Joseph at CB and a TE or pass rusher would be a good fit here. The real value is at TE, but maybe Gabe Watson is a possibiliy, too.
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (7:19 PM)
They just picked OT Andrew Whitworth, who is an interestin guy. We had him as their fourth need, but a couple coaches mentioned him this week as a guy moving up. He made big strides in the last month.
What is the deal with Eric Winston? He was projected as a late first round early second round, and the 3rd tackle overall, but has amost fallen off the board. What is up with this?
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (7:22 PM)
We had him going at No. 42 and he's fallen past that fast. I don't have a great reason why, but I will say that teams seem to be picking for need right now rather than the best available players.
If the Bears don't take Pope, TE from Georgia, this town may riot. Agree?
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (7:28 PM)
I don't know if the would riot, but I sure think it would fill a big need.
i'M ABOUT TO GO NUTS AS WE SPEAK
I hear ya Chicago!
If they don't take Pope me personally would look at stovall
I predict the Bears trade down yet again...it's all Angelo knows
Here we go the bears select booby miles from odesa permian
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (7:34 PM)
They picked Devin Hester from Miami. That's a workout pick for a speed guy. What's interesting is what position they will play him at. He was announced as a DB but we know he can play WR and return kicks.
OH! Devin Hester WOW! Way to fill a need! Now they can get there second KO Return Man in the 3rd round by drafting Jermey Bloom.
i dont understand why the bears wouldnt pick a TE
Panthers have to take Winston!!!
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (7:39 PM)
They get DB Richard Marshall from Fresno State, a guy who can play corner that we had going a little higher. That's a good system for him. They play a lot of man-to-man and they don't mind putting the corners on an island.
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (7:44 PM)
Tampa on the clock and this could be a spot for Eric Winston. They need a tackle and could rebuild the line a little with him and Joseph. They also need a CB to groom to replace Barber or Kelly, or a LB to groom to replace Brooks.
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (7:48 PM)
Well, they did take a tackle in Jeremy Trueblood. We had him in the third round and it' obvious they are drafting for need right now.
Patrick (New York)
Why would the Bucs take Jeremy Trueblood over Eric Winston?
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (7:49 PM)
It's hard to say why a team likes one guy over another. The OL coach obviously has input and it was likely a discussion between guys in the draft room and at this stage they usually give the line coach the guy he likes if his preference is strong.
Justin (Paoli, Indiana)
because they think trueblood is better
A decent pick for Tampa Bay to add another offenive lineman. We all know how bad that O-Line was last year for Tampa. They are assessing their number one need.
Buzzmaster (7:53 PM)
We have to take a very short break to rectify a technical problem but we'll be back in a matter of seconds...
Buzzmaster (8:02 PM)
We're back in action so let the questions fly
Where do you think Maurice Stoval will be picked? Is there a better reciever left? Could Stovall slip to the Eagles in the 3rd?
Scouts, Inc.'s Steve Muench (8:08 PM)
Jeremy always good to hear from our friends to the north. Stovall continues to slip and he could fall to Philly but he should the next receiver to come off the board
jim (Green Bay, WI
so will AJ Hawk make a that big of an impact on the packers so so team?
Scouts, Inc.'s Steve Muench (8:11 PM)
Yes, I thnk so becsuse he is obviousy talented and he is a leader that will fire his teammates up. He could be this year's Lofa Tatupu
Okay, Houston obviously needs a lineman...surely we take Winston here right?
Scouts, Inc.'s Steve Muench (8:13 PM)
If I were the Gm, that's what i do. The Texans need a pass blocker and he is the best available at this point.
do you think the lions will take a quarterback late in the draft? if so, what is the qb talent looking like?
Scouts, Inc.'s Steve Muench (8:18 PM)
They are pretty deep at quarterback right now but it wouldn't surprise me if they took a developmetnal proect late because they don't have a franchise quarterback and there are a few interesting developmental prosepcts like Alabama State's Travaris Jackson.
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (8:19 PM)
Hey guys. After breaking down all the Trade action, Keith Kidd and I will bring you home.
Why did Winston Justice fall so far, did the Eagles get a steal because everyone seems to be drafting for need?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (8:20 PM)
Justice had a few off the field issues. This was a great get by the Eagles because they were actually considering him at one point with the 14th overall pick.
Abdul Hodge and A.J. Hawk, the Packers definitely solidifed their D with two great leaders
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (8:23 PM)
Hey Grant. I agree. With the shape their LB unit was in, they got two starters in the first day. They are both great leaders too. Hawk and Hodge to go with Barnett has now taken a weakness on this team and turned it into a strength.
Josh (San Antonio, Texas)
Last year Rod Wright would of been gone in the 1st round, but now he is no where to be seen, any comments?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (8:25 PM)
He has great physical tools, but teams are leary of him because he does not have a great motor. There is a sense from NFL GM's that he may only get lazier once he starts collecting paychecks.
Jeremy (St. Louis)
With Hawk, Hodge, and Abdul at LB, who plays the Mike spot?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (8:25 PM)
Barnett at the Mike, Hawk at the Will and Hodge at the Sam.
Brian (New York)
Wil the Jets regret passing up Matt Leinart?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (8:27 PM)
I don't think so. They were able to get two excellent offensive linemen and add a QB that they were really in love with. Clemens has that big time arm they were looking for.
Jeremy, why are Gabe Watson, and Lenard Pope still avaliable?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (8:30 PM)
Watson was a little overrated on some experts boards. In talking to defensive line coaches around the league and also in seeing him myself on tape, he is a guy that doesn't play to his abilities. As for Pope, he is very raw and teams think he is going to take some time to develop.
Did you think Youboty would fall THAT far?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (8:31 PM)
No I did not. I thought he would go in the late first to early 2nd round. He has a ton of physical tools, but he is a little bit too much of a straight-line guy and teams were concerned about his ability to play off-coverage and his hip quickness when he has to turn and run.
Is their a particular reason Bing is slipping so far?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (8:31 PM)
Its all about his lack of speed. Bing is a great leader and a very good box Safety, but he is very limited in coverage.
Do think the QB from Linfield Univeristy (Brent Elliot) will get drafted?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (8:33 PM)
Hey Flemmer. I do expect him to get drafted in the 6-7 rouund range tomorrow. He has excellent intangibles, and he is a winner.
Why did AZ draft another offensive player?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (8:34 PM)
I think they wanted to go defense here, but could not pass on the upside of Pope. He is going to take a little time to develop, but the guy is a very good athlete and the Cards do not have a legitimate TE prospect on their roster right now.
A .Youboty...ok I get that but what about the other picks for bills?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (8:36 PM)
Not a good day. Took two players out of position. Could have gotten McCargo with the pick they had in the 2nd round before trading up.
Why did the Eagles pick Gocong when they need linebackers and wide receivers? Is their next pick Maurice Stovall?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (8:37 PM)
CoCong is a guy that they will try at OLB first. He is an intense, high motor player. He is going to be a phenom on special teams while he is developing as an LB.
what about stovall?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (8:39 PM)
He has only had the one year of solid production. Some of that is attributed to a poor system under Willingham and some was because he isn't a great worker. He has excellent size, but there are some concerns about his speed/quickness which will make it tough for him to consistently separate at the NFL level.
who is the best wr on the board
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (8:42 PM)
The #1 guy left on the board is still Stovall. He should go here soon.
Jeremy, who do you see the Patriots targeting with the 86th pick?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (8:44 PM)
I think they were targeting CoCong. If there was ever a guy that had 'patriots" written on him, it was that guy. They need to go LB - could be John Alston from Stanford.
Justin (New York)
Jeremy, why was Claude Wroten picked with Gabe Watson still on the Board? Both have serious character issues, but Watson is widely considered to have more talent.
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (8:47 PM)
I do not agree with that. Wroten is a far better player. Wroten was a legetimate top 20 pick prior to his off-the-field incident. Many defensive line coaches in this league think he is just a step below Bunkely as a player.
Brandon (St. Louis)
what do you think of Alston for STL with their latest pick?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (8:50 PM)
He is a tough, smart and competitve kid. He is a little undersized at 230 LBS, but he plays much bigger. The guy can really run but he needs to develop his frame some and add a little bulk.
Will Darnell Bing be a first day pick?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (8:52 PM)
I don't think he gets by the Steelers. With him and Polamalu, it gives them one of the smartest and most physical DS combo in the NFL.
Hank (Los Angeles, CA)
Can Maurice Drew challenge Fred Taylor and Greg Jones for the starting RB job?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (8:53 PM)
No, he will be more of a change of pace guy this year. They will also use him as a punt returner. It is a solid addition though because we know the Jags have had trouble consistently keeping all their RB's healthy.
How could Cleveland draft Wislon when Stovall is still on the board? What is going on with him, there has to be an underlying reason he's getting snubbed!
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (8:54 PM)
He along with a lot of other guys like Watson are getting snubbed because of sub-par work ethic.
Why does ATL take a RB at this pick?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (8:55 PM)
I think they are thinking about the future with that pick. Dunn will be gone next season and they have never been fully enamored with Duckett.
Why would dallas trade the pick
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (8:59 PM)
Jacksonville really wanted to get into this slot for the OLB. The LB position is getting very thin right now and we are not even out of Day 1.
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (9:00 PM)
Thanks guys... Keith Kidd is going to bring you guys home.
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (9:01 PM)
Hey this Keith Kidd and I'm ready to take your questions....
what will the chiefs look for with their next pick
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (9:04 PM)
THe Chiefs have taken two defenisve players and they should be targeting offense with their next pick. WR Maurice Stovall or they could be thinking of their QB of the future in Brodie Croyle.
what do you think of the eagles draft picks and what grade would you give them?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (9:05 PM)
I think the Eagles have had a very productive draft. Grade B+
Why do you think Miami picked Hagan over Stovall?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (9:09 PM)
Stovall has been dropping due to his work ethic and he was a one year production guy in college. Hagan is a high character guy with good leadership skills and production.
What position do you think Dallas will draft with the 92nd pick?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (9:10 PM)
I think they are going to go safety with either Darnell Bing or Ko Simpson.
Will the Bears draft a TE or CB?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (9:13 PM)
The Bears have address the defense and they to find a playmaker on offense mainly the TE position.
If Justice does go to the Bucs, do the Bengals get Johnathan Joesph or Jimmy Williams with the 24th selection?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (9:15 PM)
Anything is possible. However, Marvin Lewis is high on character guys and Jimmy Williams had character concerns coming out.
What is the most glaring need for the Steelers that they should address in the next pick (95) or so?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (9:17 PM)
Safety is their most glaring need, even with the addition Ryan Clark in the unrestricted market this off-season.
With Ben Watson and Daniel Graham both on the roster, why would New England take another TE?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (9:20 PM)
They love Tightends in their offense and their is a huge shortage of AVAILABLE LB'S at this point in the draft.
Who is the best available player right now?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (9:21 PM)
DT Gabriel Watson of Michigan, who is dropping based on his character issues and work habits.
who do you think will have the best first year? Young or Leinart
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (9:26 PM)
Leinart based on the fact that Warner will probably get hurt and Lineart will have a better supporting cast around him with James, Boldin and Fitgerald. However, Young is a great player and will have a very good NFL career.
connor (denver co)
how soon will jay cutler help the broncos.
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (9:30 PM)
I would think anywhere from 2-3 years. The Broncos are a very good team and are the clear favorite in the AFC West in 2006.
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (9:32 PM)
Maurice Stovall was a very good value pick by the Buccaneers. Stovall presents will put pressure on former 1st round pick Michael Clayton.
What about Cleveland's draft so far? What grade would you give them?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (9:35 PM)
The Browns have done a good job of addressing the defensive side of the ball with a pass rusher and ILB. They also made a solid addition with WR Travis Wilson out of Oklahoma. Grade B+
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (9:36 PM)
The Cowboys traded back earlier and this could be either Ko Simpson or Darnell Bing.
How will Davis' presence impact the 49'ers offense?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (9:40 PM)
TE Veron Davis will add a unquie dimension to the vertical passing game and help the overall development of QB Alex Smith. This should help improve the worst offense in the NFL last year.
Marv Levy should've done a better job for the Bills, you agree?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (9:44 PM)
I agree...SS Donte Whitner was a big time reach at eight and they could have gotten DT John McCargo with their orginal second round pick at #42.
How soon do you think Ernie Sims will make a huge impact for the Lions?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (9:48 PM)
Ernie Sims should have a major impact on the Lions defense in his first year. DC Donnie Henderson will design different schemes that will allow him to make a lot of impact plays in the Lions defensive front seven. The only drawback would be a lengthy holdout in training camp.
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (9:50 PM)
Thanks for all your questions today and we will talk to you tormorrow at 11:00 am
Buzzmaster (10:11 PM)
Thanks to Gary Horton, Jeremy Green, Keith Kidd, Todd McShay and Steve Muench of Scouts, Inc. for stopping by today! We'll start up again at 11am ET on Sunday and chat all the way through the very last pick of the draft!
Buzzmaster (10:55 AM)
Helllooooooo, and welcome to Day 2 of the 2006 NFL Draft! The diehards have filled Radio City Music Hall and the Texans are on the clock, and one lucky player is on his way to becoming Mr. Irrelevant. ESPN.com draft experts Jeremy Green, Keith Kidd, Gary Horton, Rick Spielman, Todd McShay and Steve Muench will be here to break down what we saw on Day 1 and everything to come on Day 2. Join us at 11 a.m. ET and we'll cover all the bases!!
Jeremy Green (11:02 AM)
Hey everyone. I am here to kick off the 4th round. Keith Kidd, Gary Horton, Steve Muench and Todd McShay will also be stopping by. It should be fast and furious right off the bat. We expect Gabe Watson, Ko Simpson, Darnell Bing, Max Jean Gilles and Rodrique Wright to come off the board here pretty quickly.
Are teams filling needs or picking the best available player at this point?
Jeremy Green (11:04 AM)
In most cases the first 1-10 players that come off the board in this round are what people beleive are the best available players. After that, teams will be looking to fill needs.
ARe there any impact WR left for day two? If so, will any of them make a difference in 2006?
Jeremy Green (11:05 AM)
There are a few. Demetrioius Williams, Jason Avant and Brandon Marshall have a chance to contribute, but I would not call them difference makers.
I saw that Drew Henson had another good game in NFL Europe. do you think that influences the Cowboys not to draft a QB today, maybe bring in a FA for Camp?
Jeremy Green (11:08 AM)
I know they are happy with his progress. It means they won't take a QB early in Day 2, but could look to add a guy in the late rounds.
Jeremy Green (11:08 AM)
I know they are happy with his progress. It means they won't take a QB early in Day 2, but could look to add a guy in the late rounds.
who do you see the browns getting in round 4?
Jeremy Green (11:10 AM)
They should go with Rodrique Wright or Gabriel Watson. They have addressed the LB spot, now they need to address their D-line.
Jerry Angleo has a knack for selecting impact players on the 2nd day of the draft. Which OLB do you see that's currently available could fit that mold?
Jeremy Green (11:11 AM)
I think potentially a guy like AJ Nicholson from Florida State or Tim Dobbins from Iowa State.
why on earth would the Texans pick a TE!!!
Jeremy Green (11:13 AM)
Mark Bruenner is getting old. They added Putzier, but Owen Daniels is a verstaile move guy that they can move around. Kubiak has always been a guy that likes to use multiple TE's like he did with Denver.
Marc ( New-Brunswick)
who will the niners draft at 100 ?
Jeremy Green (11:15 AM)
They need to address the secondary here. Ko Simpson the DS from South Carolina or Alan Zemitas the DC from Penn State.
i'm hearing rumors about cleveland trading for Joey Harrington. What are your thoughts?
Jeremy Green (11:18 AM)
I don't think that is the best fit for him. Carthon is a guy that is really tough on his offensive players, and Harrington's psyche has to be pretty beat up right now. Harrington needs to go somewhere where he can just be the backup.
Jeremy Green (11:19 AM)
Michael Robinson just went and they announced him as a RB, not a QB, WR, or DS.
why another Wide receiver for san fran? They are runing there excellent first round with there two last pick
Jeremy Green (11:20 AM)
He will play RB. I think that is his best spot too. He is durable, runs physical and has excellent vision.
Who do you think the Cardinals take with pick 107?
Jeremy Green (11:21 AM)
The Cardinals will address their defense early on here. They will go with the DS Ko Simpson if he is there. If not the DS Patrick Watkins from Florida State.
What do you think of th raiders selecting Darnell Bing?
Jeremy Green (11:23 AM)
I like it. Bing is a tough, physical DS that is excellent in the box. He does not possess the athletic ability the Raiders like, but they love his toughness and physical style of play. Solid pick for them.
brad smith also a running back now?
Jeremy Green (11:24 AM)
I thought he would come off the board as a WR instead of RB. The Jets will likely use him at both in minicamp and try to get a feel for where he fits best.
how could the bears pass up on leonard pope and sinorice moss? They could have had both of them to really help their struggling offense
Jeremy Green (11:26 AM)
It did not make a lot of sense to me either. They really need to get some playmakers. hester will give them that as a returner, but he doesn't have a real defined NFL position.
what about stovall of notre dame for buffalo
Jeremy Green (11:28 AM)
Stovall is long gone.... Tampa Bay in the 3rd.
How has Philadelphia managed to get two excellent Olinemen well after where they were projected to fall? Why did teams continually pass on Justice and Gilles?
Jeremy Green (11:28 AM)
Justice because of off the field issues and Gilles because there were some questions about his work habits.
Why did the Niners not take Darnel Bing? There last two picks do not make much sense to me as they need help on defense.
Jeremy Green (11:29 AM)
I agree. They have one of the worst DB groups in the NFL and they have yet to address it.
What's the knock on Orien Harris? Would he be a good pickup for the Pats?
Jeremy Green (11:31 AM)
He's a 2-gap DT that is not a great playmaker. He has also had some durability issues. He would fit the Pats defense because of his ability to be a 2-gap DT.
Baltimore needed a safety with Bing and Simpson now gone who do they pick???
Jeremy Green (11:34 AM)
THe best DS left on the board is Patrick Watkins from Florida State, but I think he will go right here to the Cardinals.
Why hasn't DT Rodrique Wright been drafted. He was supposed to be a first round pick?
Jeremy Green (11:35 AM)
He has first round talent, but he plays with a low motor.
Gabe Watson is a tremendous pick by the Cardinals. Does his slip due to character reasons remind you of Darnell Dockett's a couple of years ago? He also has first round talent, but is very inconsistent.
Jeremy Green (11:36 AM)
Great point Andy. He has a ton of ability and Green has never been one to shy away from a guy with a few character issues. This will be a good home for him because their staff knows how to handle these types of players.
Who are thr best offensine linemen still available? And are any worthwhile?
Jeremy Green (11:39 AM)
Jonathan Scott from Texas and Eslinger from the OC from Minnesota. Both could sit for a season and have the ability to develop into eventual starters.
Why do you think the eagles haven't addressed the wr position? They can't expect to get much done with what they have.
Jeremy Green (11:40 AM)
They addressed both lines first and this is not a deep WR class. There are very few potential impact guys left at the WR position and one of them just went to them in Avant.
What is up with the rumors I hear about Detroit now trading Harrington to Clevland?
Jeremy Green (11:44 AM)
They are mad at him because he would not restructure his deal to go to the Chiefs or Browns. He is set on Miami, but they do not want to trade him there.
why did cleveland draft leon williams? we already went ilb.
Jeremy Green (11:45 AM)
It is a depth pick. I was a little surprised too - thought they should have went D-line right there.
Do you think Arizona has had the best draft of any team so far?
Jeremy Green (11:48 AM)
I think so. They have added a lot of players that should have an impact for them this season and into the future.
Jeremy Green (11:49 AM)
The run on Hoosiers has started.
why is RB Jerome Harrison from Washington State still on the board? He led the nation w/1900 yards
Jeremy Green (11:50 AM)
THe only reason is his size. He's a smaller back and he does not have big time speed. He is a heck of a little player though and I think he can have an immediate impact as a 3rd down RB for someone.
Jon (DeKalb, IL)
How would you rate Green Bay's draft so far? They added 2 LB's in Hawk and Hodge as well as adding 2 offensive linemen. I think they have had a top 10 draft, better than what they've had in a long time. What do you think?
Jeremy Green (11:53 AM)
I love their draft. Hawk and Hodge will both start around Barnett. I like the developmental offensive line guys too because this was an area where they really struggled last season, especially on the interior where they have lost Rivera, Wahle and Flanagan over the past 2 years.
DId the eagles just trade for Jason Avant?
Jeremy Green (11:54 AM)
They traded up to get him.
Are you surprised that hte Pats have not taken any defensive players yet?
Jeremy Green (11:55 AM)
Shocked. I really think they need to address the back end of their defense with some LB and DB help.
Clayton says that Packers haven't done anything to help Farve, but two linemen and a young linebacking core that filled with a bunch of hitters. The thing Farve needs most is to not have to think 3 and out means a loss.
Jeremy Green (11:56 AM)
Who is the best available offensive playmaker left on the board for the Bears to select?
Jeremy Green (11:58 AM)
Brandon Marshall the WR from Central Florida.
Who are some of the top rated DE left?
Jeremy Green (12:00 PM)
Mark Anderson from Alabama and Parys Haralson from Tennessee who could be a rush type end.
Jeremy Green (12:01 PM)
Wow, I can't believe Washington just went ahead of Harrison.
Who are Bears picking next?? Do they go TE or OLB??? And if you were Jerry Angelo who would you pick?? Me I think the Bears need to pick AJ Nicholson of FSU isnt he the best OLB left in the draft?
Jeremy Green (12:02 PM)
He is the best OLB left on the board, but they need to find a playmaker.
Jeremy - have you ever thought of hiring someone to type for you? You're slower than slow!
Jeremy Green (12:03 PM)
Oh, sorry... there are only like over a thousand people on line in here.
Who do you see the Broncos drafting for a RB?
Jeremy Green (12:04 PM)
I think they will go with Harrison. Production guy who can be a 3rd down RB this season.
Jeremy Green (12:05 PM)
I am not sure this Gostkowski guy will make the Pats fans forget about Vinatieri.
Please answer one question of mine. Who is the biggest playmaker on the board.
Jeremy Green (12:06 PM)
Jerome Harrison without question.
Jeremy, why would any team want to trade for Joey Harrington? There is no way Detroit is going to pay him the roster bonus, and will cut him soon. Why don't teams just wait for him to be a free agent?
Jeremy Green (12:07 PM)
They would like to reach a restructured trade deal with him because if he hits the open market there will be a lot of competition to get him. The player also wants to be a Dolphin, so if he does hit the street, that is where he will go. I don't think the Browns should trade for him though... I would never trade for a player that does not want to be on my team.
Who's your next offensive tackle on the board?
Jeremy Green (12:09 PM)
There are two solid OT's left on the board. I have them ranked Scott from Texas and O'Callaghan from Cal.
Jeremy, where and when do you see CB Dee Webb out of Florida going???
Jeremy Green (12:10 PM)
Has some character issues, but he should go here at the end of this round to early 5th.
Jeremy, who do you see as the next Tennessee player to go in the draft?
Jeremy Green (12:12 PM)
DE/OLB Parys Harrelson.
Josh (Plant City, FL)
If AJ Nicholson and Dee Webb were still available for the Dolphins, why did they take Joe Toledo?
Jeremy Green (12:12 PM)
Both are solid players, but they have some character issues.
Who do you believe the top three TE left in the draft are?
Jeremy Green (12:14 PM)
Tim Day Oregon, TJ Williams NC State, and Charles Davis from Purdue.
Are there any significant cover corners left for the Giants to take here late in round 4?
Jeremy Green (12:16 PM)
The best DC left is Zemitas from Penn St who is a good zone DC. The best pure cover corner left on the board is Webb from Florida.
Who do you feel is the top QB left in the draft?
Jeremy Green (12:17 PM)
Omar Jacobs first and Bruce Gradkowski not far behind.
Could the Giants take a chance on Marcus Vick since they really don't have a back-up to Eli Manning?
Jeremy Green (12:19 PM)
I don't think so. They would not want to put a guy like Marcus around Eli.
Was Jason Avant a good pick by the Eagles?
Jeremy Green (12:20 PM)
Yes, because it was a need pick and he was the best playmaker left at the position.
do the Jets plan on moving Trey Teague to make room for Nick Mnagold or does will it take Mangold a year to break the starting lineup?
Jeremy Green (12:22 PM)
It will depnd on how quickly Mangold comes along. If everyhting goes according to their plan, Mangold will start and Teague will slide over to OG.
What is more important for the Cowboys coming up, getting a Safety or O line help?
Jeremy Green (12:24 PM)
Offensive Line. It also has the best value on the board with Scott and O'Callagan out there.
Josh (Lubbock, Texas)
Do you see any Texas Tech players going any time soon.... or at all?
Jeremy Green (12:27 PM)
The RB Taurean Henderson should come off the board in the late 5th to early 6th round.
Why is Skyler Green in free fall?
Jeremy Green (12:29 PM)
Love his playmaking ability, but he lacks size at 5'9 and some teams wonder how durable he will be.
Jeremy Green (12:30 PM)
wow... talk about a player on here and he goes on the next pick. If you want to get someone drafted, send in your question quickly.
MauMau: Atl, GA
What's left for the Falcons to address in these latter rounds?
Jeremy Green (12:32 PM)
They need to find a big run stuffing DT. They were so soft vs. the run last season.
who are your top 10 players left?
Jeremy Green (12:34 PM)
DT Rodrique Wright, DT Orien Harris, DE Mark Anderson, DT Kyle Williams, DS Patrick Watkins, DC Dee Webb, RB Jerome Harrison, OC Greg Eslinger, OT Jonathan Scott, and QB Omar Jacobs.
Dumervil???? A bit of a stretch dont you think. Had horrible combines
Jeremy Green (12:36 PM)
He did not have a great post-season, but he makes plays on tape and that is more important than what he did at the combine and individual workouts.
are there any rb's left the browns can get to compliment Reuben Droughns?
Jeremy Green (12:39 PM)
Yes, they need a change of pace guy. Jerome Harrison would be a perfect fit for them.
Do you believe taking a Kicker in the 4th round for the Pats was a stretch. Could have possible had him as a FA.
Jeremy Green (12:42 PM)
No, not a stretch. This guy has big-time leg strength. It takes kickers some time to adjust kicking at the NFL level, but this guy is going to eventually be very good.
Was T Jackson a better QB pick over the other QB's Broyle and Whitehurst?
Jeremy Green (12:44 PM)
They think he has more upisde, but he is also much more of a project. Croyle and Whitehurst will be ready to play a lot quicker than Jackson who could be 3-4 years away.
Jeremy Green (12:47 PM)
OK guys, I am signing off for now. Keith Kidd will take you through the 5th round.
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (12:48 PM)
Hey everyone, let's get started with your NFL questions.
Why have the Bears neglected to address their offensive needs?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (12:52 PM)
The Bears should start addressing some of their offensive needs in round 5. They can still targets some OT's TE's in the later rounds but don't except any major upgrades at the position.
with 2 picks in the 5th round what do you see the titans doing?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (12:54 PM)
The Titans will add depth to their offensive line, secondary and linebackers in this round.
WHAT WAY DO YOU THINK THE FALCONS GO WITH THE PICK COMING UP SOON?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (12:57 PM)
They need to take a defensive tackle to upgrade the interior of their run defense. The Falcons were one the worst teams aganist the run last year. The Falcons might be thinking about DT Rodrique Wright from the University of Texas.
What do you think the Browns should do with their two picks this round?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (12:59 PM)
They will continue to consisder defensive lineman in this round that can fit into their 3-4 defense. They are also looking for a COP opposite Reuben Droughns.
What team you think needs most to go RB in this round? And what are the best run backs at there right now?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (1:02 PM)
Denver, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. Jerome Harrison and Andre Hall.
who is the best DL for the browns to take
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (1:04 PM)
Rodrique Wright of Texas and Babatande Oshinowo of Stanford.
What DB's are worth taking in the 5th round for the Cardinals?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (1:05 PM)
Patrick Watson of Florida State would be a good replacement in the future for Robert Griffith.
Why do you guys think that Orien Harris slipped from a projected early 2nd rounder to a 4th rounder?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (1:07 PM)
Injury and durability concerns. He is not a big playmaker, but projects well in a 3-4 scheme which is perfect for Pittsburgh.
How would you rate the Packers draft so far. It seems like they have filled a variety of needs thus far and, along with the signing of Woodson and Favre coming back, are the Packers setting themselves up for another playoff run?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (1:09 PM)
The Packers have had a real good draft and have the upgraded the defensive side of the ball with playmakers AJ Hawks and Abdul Hodge.
Out of all of Florida State's defensive players taken in the first round (Wimbley, Bunkley, Cromartie, Sims), who do you think will have the best career?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (1:11 PM)
They are all very good players, but I would go with Sims and his ability to make a lot of plays in the Lions front seven.
will the jets get marcus vick!?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (1:14 PM)
No.... They have already taken their Qb of the future in Kellen Clemons, which a lot of teams had rated as the fourth best QB in the draft.
Who looks to be the team for OSU receiver Mike Hass at this point?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (1:16 PM)
Kansas City or San Diego.
Is there any CB remaining that may be helpful for immediate defensive help for the chiefs?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (1:17 PM)
Dee Webb is the best guy left on the board.
Scouts, Inc's Todd McShay (1:27 PM)
Hey everyone. I'm jumping in for a while to give Keith and Jeremy a breather. Let's get to some questions...
know anything about J. Bloom?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (1:27 PM)
Sorry about that guys I got knock off the network but I am back on.
Going to take any Colts questions this year? How'd they do? The consensus here is they did pretty bad especially with their
Scouts, Inc's Todd McShay (1:29 PM)
Jeremy Bloom is one of the unique stories of the 2006 NFL draft. He was a skiier in the Torino Olympics (moguls I believe). Bloom spent a couple of seasons at Colorado, where he was a decent receiver and great return specialist. The Eagles will need to work with him in order to improve his route running skills. At best, he'll become a No. 3 slot WR in the NFL, but his upside is clearly in the return game.
why have the pats yet to select a defensive player in the draft? do you think webb would have been a better choice for them with this pick?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (1:30 PM)
I like their 1st round pick in Addai. He is a perfect fit in their offense. Tim Jennings is a small and quick corner that should fit in well in their sub defenses.
what do you know about Evans drafted out Bloomsburg to the Saints I believe
Scouts, Inc's Todd McShay (1:32 PM)
Florida DC Dee Webb has some character issues, which is why he's freefalling. As for the Pats, I like the players they've drafted in terms of value. Chad Jackson was a great pick in Round 2. But it's concerning that they haven't added help at LB or DC.
Who are the best linebackers available?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (1:32 PM)
He is a massive prospect with a considerable upside. However, he came from a small school and he has never developed the proper technique.
Avo (Las Vegas, NV)
What do you think of the lions draft and the Harrington situation
Scouts, Inc's Todd McShay (1:33 PM)
In terms of OLB's, FSU's A.J. Nicholson, Tennessee's Omar Gaither and Auburn's Travis Williams are the best on the board. Iowa State's Tim Dobbins and Virginia's Kai Parham are the best two ILB's left on the board.
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (1:34 PM)
The Lions draft has been pretty productive so far. As for Harrington, this situation is starting to get ugly. I still think the best fit for Harrington is Miami.
Scouts, Inc's Todd McShay (1:34 PM)
And there goes Dobbins to San Diego.
Is Bloom going to knock JR Reid off the Eagles, since he is such a good return man?
Do you think the Giants were too risky with their first two picks or do you think they are solid players that will fill the Giants' needs?
Scouts, Inc's Todd McShay (1:35 PM)
They'll let him compete, but remember; Bloom has been out of football for two years, so he's a big project.
Todd would the Steelers think about Minter at CB
Scouts, Inc's Todd McShay (1:37 PM)
Kiwanuka was a bit of a reach, but Moss was a solid value pick in the second round. The Giants draft has a whole has been pretty good at this poin in the 5th round.
What's your opinion of the 49er's overall draft thus far?
Scouts, Inc's Todd McShay (1:37 PM)
Minter is one of the best cornerbacks left on the board, but his character "alerts" are causing him to freefall. Other corners of good value that are still available include Dee Webb (Florida), Derrick Martin (Wyoming), Charles Gordon (Kansas) and Anwar Phillips (Penn State).
Can anyone tell me about Charlie Whitehurst
Scouts, Inc's Todd McShay (1:38 PM)
And there goes Minter to the Browns... Sorry Steelers fans.
Scouts, Inc's Todd McShay (1:39 PM)
The 49ers upgraded two major areas of need in the 1st round by selecting Davis and Lawson. Davis is a great weapon on offense, while Lawson has the ability to create pressure off the edge in passing situations.
What about that Jeremy Bloom guys, im pretty excited
Scouts, Inc's Todd McShay (1:40 PM)
As for Whitehurst, he's a good-sized quarterback with decent mobility and good arm strength. He is streaky, though. At times he will get in a rhythm and can be very effective as a pocket passer. The problem, however, is that Whitehurst has never been able to sustain success. He loses the strike zone too frequently and his overall decision making is below average. I think he'll never amount to more than a backup in the NFL.
Scouts, Inc's Todd McShay (1:41 PM)
Athletic return guys that upgrades their special teams as a RS.
Is it likely that Brodie Croyle will follow Green as the Chief's quarterback?
Why aren't steelers getting a running back?
Scouts, Inc's Todd McShay (1:43 PM)
He will compete for the #2 position with Damon Huard. He is the future of this franchise but will have to wait for Trent Green to retire. This is still Trent Green's team heading into the 2006 season.
What do you think about the brown's draft so far, anything you would have changed, any picks that stand out beyound the obvious. thanks
Scouts, Inc's Todd McShay (1:45 PM)
I'm sure they weighed some prospects as options throughout the first five rounds, but you have to be happy with the values they've gotten throughout the draft. Holmes in the first round was a great move. They've also gotten great values in DS A. Smith, WR/RS W. Reid and DT O. Harris. They can still address depth at RB with available prospects such as South Florida's Andre Hall, Fresno State's Wendell Mathis, Tennessee's Gerald RIggs Jr., or New Mexico's DonTrell Moore.
Scouts, Inc's Todd McShay (1:45 PM)
The Browns have done a good job of addressing their defense in this year's draft. I really like their 2nd round pick in ILB D'Qwell Jackson.
Where in the draft will Jonathon Orr from Wisconsin go?
How good is Anthony Montgomery?
Scouts, Inc's Todd McShay (1:47 PM)
He is a height, weight, speed guy that should go late in the 5th round or early in the 6th.
Do you think St. Louis Rams 1st round pick Tye Hill projects well?
Scouts, Inc's Todd McShay (1:48 PM)
It's late, but I still think Montgomery was a reach in the fifth round. He has good size potential but he's never been much of a playmaker and he doesn't hold his ground well vs. the run. I gave him a free agent grade.
Scouts, Inc's Todd McShay (1:49 PM)
There were far better options at the DT position, such as Texas' Rod Wright, Stanford's Babatunde Oshinowo, Louisville's Montavious Stanley and Virginia Tech's Jonathan Lewis.
Scouts, Inc's Todd McShay (1:49 PM)
Both the Rams starters in Bartell and Butler are coming off injuries. Hill should be the 3rd DC in ST, while he develops.
what do you think falcons will do with matt scheub?
Any opnions on the Dolphins draft so far?
Scouts, Inc's Todd McShay (1:52 PM)
KEEP HIM...!! It's too late to move the player and he has second round value. He is a good young QB that will be the number 2 QB behind Vick.
What do you think of what denver has done in this draft? I personally like it but isn't what they really need a pass rusher?
Scouts, Inc's Todd McShay (1:55 PM)
We're into Round 5 and they've only had three picks, so it's been somewhat uneventful. I think Jason Allen is a great fit because of their need at safety, but he might have been a reach at pick No. 18 because of his hip injury. If he stays healthy, though, Allen will be an impact player... he's the versatile type that Nick Saban is looking for in his secondary. I think WR Derek Hagan in the third round was their best pick of the draft. He slipped because of a poor postseason showing, but Hagan has good size and he was a playmaker at ASU. I think he can be a decent No. 3 as a rookie and can eventually push for the starting job opposite Chambers. Toledo was a decent value in the 4th round -- He can help provide depth along the line.
Scouts, Inc's Todd McShay (1:55 PM)
The Broncos have a good team right know and have done a solid job of adding depth to their football team. I really like the Cutler pick and TE Tony Scheffler adds good depth to their TE position behind Alexander.
Watch out 4 the Redskins
Denver made a good selection, because Plummer is getting older and they need a reliable man who is well in the pocket
Is SD doing enough to address their needs?
Scouts, Inc's Todd McShay (1:56 PM)
They still need a safety and a wide receiver in this draft.
Scouts, Inc's Todd McShay (1:57 PM)
I agree. I'm not as high on Cutler as some people are but he definately has enough talent to develop into a solid starter. He's a good fit to play in their system, too.
do you think green bay has a shot at a turn around season with some of the "ready to play" picks that they have made
Scouts, Inc's Todd McShay (1:59 PM)
They have gotten better on defense with both Hawk and Hodge. Right know thay have Ben Taylor and Robert Thomas on the outside.
Scouts, Inc's Todd McShay (1:59 PM)
In fact, I like Denver's draft overall so far. They've addressed needs at TE with T. Scheffler, who I think will become a steal from this draft, and at WR with B. Williams and D. Hixon. Williams and Hixon are playmakers after the catch and they both have experience in the return game. Dumervil was a good value in the 4th round, too. He dropped b/c of an awful postseason, where he was exposed for his lack of size and initial burst. But getting the DI-A sack leader and forced fumble leader in the fourth round is a good deal.
Why have the Bears only drafted defense?
Scouts, Inc's Todd McShay (2:05 PM)
The Bears entered the draft with top needs at TE, OLB and FS. So far they've addressed the needs at DS with Danieal Manning and at OLB with Jamar Williams, but in all reality Williams is unlikely to develop into anything more than a versatile reserve. Devin Hester was a gamble, but the Bears could afford to take that gamble in my opinion. Hester is the clear-cut top return specialist in this draft and he has some upside as a slot-WR. He could play cornerback, which is the position he spent the most time at in college, but I think his value will be on the other side of the ball. Dvoraceck is also a good value. He is the right fit as a one-gap penetrator and he's a second round talent who slipped b/c of some off-the-field issues in college.
Do you think that Gerald Riggs Jr would be a great fit for the Steelers here?
Scouts, Inc's Todd McShay (2:07 PM)
Riggs is the right fit as a big north-south runner. But his freefall was expected after injuries and unmet expectations in college. He would be worth the pick for the Steelers from this point on, though.
What do you think of the 49ers draft so far?
Scouts, Inc's Todd McShay (2:10 PM)
We won't know for a few years but at this point the 49ers certainly look as if they've had one of the more productive drafts in 2006. They were relieved when Vernon Davis fell to them; Davis can be a great weapon for Alex Smith and he'll also help to make a below average WR corps better by drawing attention away. Manny Lawson is a perfect fit as a 3-4 OLB and he can help after losing Peterson and Carter in the offseason.
Scouts, Inc's Todd McShay (2:11 PM)
After that, WR Brandon Williams, DE/OLB Parys Haralson and WR/RB Michael Robinson were all good values at their respective picks.
Any thoughts on CB Anwar Phillips out of PSU? What team to you see best fitting for him?
Scouts, Inc's Todd McShay (2:12 PM)
Character issues are the reason for him slipping. He's a decent prospect for a team using a lot of zone coverage. He just doesn't have the fluid hips or top-end speed to match up consistently man-to-man in the NFL.
where do you think marcus vick is going, or will he even be drafted at all?
Scouts, Inc's Todd McShay (2:15 PM)
I think Vick will come off the board in the next round. Some teams that could take the chance on him include the Falcons, Broncos, Raiders and Cowboys.
Who is this safety that the Giants just took and was he a good pick?
Scouts, Inc's Todd McShay (2:18 PM)
Charlie Peprah is a versatile safety from Alabama. He has experience at DS and CB. He's a high effort, tough and instinctive player who will provide some depth and make some big plays on special teams, but he's not athletic or big enough to become a solid starter in the NFL, so don't set you hopes too high.
Scouts, Inc's Todd McShay (2:22 PM)
We've seen a little run on Alabama guys (Anderson and Peprah) and Virginia guys (Hagans and Butler) in this round so far. Anderson is a steal this late. He was a productive player the past two years in the SEC and he had a huge workout at the combine... I'm surprised he slipped this far.
Buzzmaster (2:23 PM)
Thanks to Todd...We'll have more experts coming up in just a minute...
Scouts, Inc's Todd McShay (2:24 PM)
Green Bay's draft has been questionable. Hawk was a solid pick at No. 5, but Colledge was a reach in the second round when guys like McNeill, Winston and Whitworth were still on the board. I don't even have an evaluation on the Moll character that they just drafted.
Ryan, Portland, OR
Why isn't anyone taking a chance on Biletnikoff winner WR Mike Hass from oregon St, that guy is a playmaker and being a duck fan I hate that he is so good
Scouts, Inc's Todd McShay (2:27 PM)
I'm surprised he's still on the board, as well. I know he doesn't have the speed and agility numbers that excite NFL scouts but he just knows how to separate. Also, Hass' hands are excellent. I think he'll prove a lot of people wrong in the NFL as a No. 3 or No. 4 receiver -- just as he did at Oregon State after walking on as a freshman.
Why isn't anyone taking Greg Esslinger from the center from Minnesota? Not solid enough or what?
Scouts, Inc's Todd McShay (2:29 PM)
Nope. He's still on the board. Eslinger was a great college center but he's vastly undersized. He only fits for certain teams like the Colts, Broncos, etc. -- athletic zone-blocking schemes.
How can Omar Jacobs be higher than Bruce Gradkowski on the Steelers Draft Board?
Scouts, Inc's Todd McShay (2:30 PM)
He was higher on my board, too. Durability is a big issue for Gradkowski -- and he's undersized from a pass-friendly system. Jacobs is unpolished and inconsistent, but at least he has good size, mobility and accuracy short-to-intermediate.
Scouts, Inc's Todd McShay (2:32 PM)
That's all for me right now. Thanks for the questions... I'll be back later to answer some more...
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (2:34 PM)
Hey it's Keith Kidd and I am back on and ready to answer some NFL draft questions.
what's the deal with Dee Webb falling so low??? I know he had character issues, but come on he's a great man to man cover corner. And to be honest with you, he's not that bad of a guy, it was just 1 incident that wasn't even his fault (he's not a Marcus Vick).
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (2:35 PM)
Dee Weeb has some character issues and he is a small corner that teams are trying to stay away from.
Do you think the Packers drafting Ingle Martin means that Aaron Rodgers is not the heir apparent to Brett Favre? Have they given up on Rodgers?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (2:38 PM)
They had to address the lost of QB Craig Nall to the Buffalo Bills. Martin is a young developmenatl type QB that fits a need on their team. Rogers is still the future of this Franchise.
On a scale from one to ten, how would you rate the Ravens' draft as of right now?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (2:42 PM)
6-7. The Ravens have done a good addressing their defensive line with NT Ngata and their offensive line with Chester Taylor. I also like their 3rd pick David Pittman.
The Patriots have made some solid picks on offence but shouldn't they be concerned more about defence, will they be able to draft quality players at this point in the draft?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (2:44 PM)
The Patriots have made some solid picks on offense and they will be looking for guys who can contribute on special teams in the later part of the draft.
I like what the Jets have done this draft in the early rounds, but I can't put my finger on some of their later picks. Please help me out.
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (2:47 PM)
Brad Smith is a versatile guy that play RB/WR. They also add a COP back in Leon Washington from Florida State. Look for the Jets to add core special teams player in the later rounds.
What happend to the Cornerback Derrick Martin from Wyoming?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (2:52 PM)
He is a junior coming out and play strength was a big concern. Small corners that don't run real well will usually go in the later rounds of the draft.
Green Bay needs a kicker, is there anyone left worth drafting?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (2:53 PM)
Josh Huston form Ohio State is the highest rated PK left on the board.
What position do you see the Falcons concentrating on for their last two picks?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (2:55 PM)
They will look to strengthen the interior of their offensive and defensive lines.
In your opinion who do you choose as a bronco Player Javon Walker or Chad Jackson? I think that is already a playmaker but Javon is a T.On just a little younger.
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (2:58 PM)
Without a doubt Javon Walker!!!! Walker is a highly productive player that will fit in well opposite Rod Smith. The other guy you have to develop and hope you hit on him.
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (2:59 PM)
The Browns come up with two more solid picks in this round. Victors the FB from Colorado and Oshinowo from Standford.
ESPN.com says that Marcus Vick could possibly go undrafted. Do you think he could possibly be a steal in the 6th or 7th round?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (3:01 PM)
He has great value in both these rounds if he can stay out of trouble. Your talking about getting a player with 3rd round talent.
"thunder" dan majerle
who is the best "athlete" left on the board? who is still sitting there that should have come off the board already?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (3:03 PM)
WR Devin Aromashodu from Auburn 6024, 201, 4.35..........
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (3:04 PM)
I'm signing off and Gary Horton from Scouts INC will be joining you shortly. Thanks for your questions.
do you think the cowboys had a productive draft?
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (3:12 PM)
Carpenter fills a need, thought I thought they might pick Manny Lawson. But Carpenter can be that edge rusher from the LB position, and Parcells knows him because his dad played for Parcells. I like the pick of TE Fasano because they can run two-TE sets and he is a tough blocker who is a nice complement to Witten. I've heard him called a young Mark Bavaro, which tells you why Parcells likes him.
What is your opinion on the vkings taking T. Jackson instead of a higher rated QB?
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (3:14 PM)
This is a Childress pick. He wants a young guy to develop and has obviously looked closely at these guys and he is obviously most comfortable with Jackson. You can't wait too long when you're searching for that developmental guy, you have to get him even if it's a bit early.
Steve (Erie, Pa)
Do you think the steelers made a good decision picking jacobs, or would a skill player like d.j. shockley have been a better decision
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (3:17 PM)
The problem with Pittsburgh is everyone is looking for the next Randle El when you think of guys like that. The Steelers moved up to get Santonio Holmes to fill the WR role. Jacobs is a big, talented guy who can develop starting as a No. 3 and maybe become the backup. And he is in no hurry to play.
what is the reasoning behind the bears not selecting more than 1 person on ofense when they are ranked at the bottom of league year in and year out?
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (3:22 PM)
Manning makes sense because they let Mike Green go and Manning can now step in as the third safety which is important for depth. Also, Dvoracek fits a need because Tank Johnson suffered an offseason biceps injury and may not be ready for training camp. That hinders their DT rotation, so these were two picks that really filled a need. Hester gives them explosiveness in the return game and also as a nickel or dime receiver.
New England still has three picks in the 6th round. What positions do they still need to address?
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (3:24 PM)
At this stage Belichick looks for the best athlete on their board who can also fill a need and play on special teams. The Pats do a nice job of digging out guys late in the draft.
what do you think about the colts picking Joseph Addai as their first pick?
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (3:26 PM)
A solid pick and really the only quality back who was available. He is a versatile guy with some speed who can catch the ball, but he is not overly physical. He is a safe pick at that point.
what do u think of the redskins draft??
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (3:28 PM)
It's really only a one-man draft. They must have really liked Rocky McIntosh to trade up for him because they didn't have a lot of juice to move up. This team's draft, for all practical purposes, was completed in free agency.
Do you believe the Chargers made the right choice with their first pick (19)? I have noticed that the Chargers have not faired well in turning young DB's with potential into solid starters. I cannot remember the last time they have had a shutdown corner. Should they have gone with a WR instead and picked a proven veteran DB via free agency?
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (3:30 PM)
Cromartie is the ultimate risk-reward pick. He has top-10 skills but has never been healthy and the Chargers are rolling the dice that durability won't be a problem. This pick makses sense because the need at CB was obvious and Cromartie is the guy at that position who intrigued everyone. They may get a star here, it all depends on healthy.
Make a prediction... who will be this year's Mr. Irrelevant chosen by the Raiders??
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (3:35 PM)
Hmmm...Buzz will go with Victor Ayedanju, DE from Indiana, just because he has a cool name...
Mr. Irrelevant will be Marcus Vick. Couldn't be a more appropriate ending for both parties.
Buzzmaster (3:36 PM)
Prediction: Vick is undrafted....
no1 2001 michael vick, last pick 2006 marcus vick
Vick will be the 3rd stringer in Atlanta
uhh....Ayedanju was already picked by StL
Buzzmaster (3:40 PM)
Good call...Got too excited about that cool name...
Gary, what new player from the draft do you think will have the fastest impact on the Eagles in the upcomming season?
Gary Horton (3:42 PM)
I really like the entire draft. Bunkley fills a need as a rotation DT, which Andy Reid required from his tackles. He likes to run guys in and out and Bunkley is a perfect one-gap penetrator in that defense.
Gary Horton (3:42 PM)
Justice was a guy they targeted as maybe their first pick, and they had him in for a visit the week before and getting him in the second round was a huge surprise,
Gary Horton (3:44 PM)
Man Jean-Gilles is a great inside offensive player and this is a line that needs more depth, and I really like the Jeremy Bloom pick. He could be a return guy and a fourth or fifth WR in an offense that could throw him a lot of underneath passes and let him run after the catch. I think Philly got a break in the first and second when Bunkley and Justice slipped, but this looks like a very well thought-out draft.
Pittsburgh PG has put up word that the Steelers are trying to work out a trade for TJ Duckett. Q - how do you think he'd fit in the Steelers scheme ?
Gary Horton (3:46 PM)
He'd be an excellent fit because he can run between the tackles and give them power carries, which is what the offense is all about. I have heard two or three times today that Atlanta is interested in moving Duckett, and that would be an excellent trade for Pittsburgh.
Juan (mexico city)
What do you think of the Steelers draft so far?
Gary Horton (3:49 PM)
I love the fact they moved up for Santonio Holmes because he is the guy that can give them the same production as Randle El and is an explosive weapon. When he got close enough they made a great move. I also like Omar Jacobs on the second day. I think Pittsburgh is looking for the good No. 2 guy behind Big Ben and Jacobs could be that guy in a couple of years. He has a lot of talent and plenty of time to develop it. Even though the other names are solid but not spectacular, this may be the best drafting front office in the NFL. They make very few mistakes.
Will Reggie McNeal be able to make any impact for Cincinnati this year?
Gary Horton (3:57 PM)
They may use him on some gadget plays and things like that, but at the end of the year he won't put up numbers. The Bengals are deep at WR and McNeal needs to develop more as a receiver before he sees a lot of time and makes an impact there.
Should Matt Leinhart come out of college last year when the level of talent wasn't so great?
Gary Horton (4:00 PM)
I'm not sure the talent pool was better, I just think in this draft there were better overall players at the top. And it comes down to need, too. He would have been the No. 1 pick to SF last year because he would have been rated higher than Alex Smith. I don't think he did anything wrong, he just got into a draft where a lot of the teams picking high didn't need a QB.
I wish people would stop second-guessing Leinart. He knew his value last year, this was a personal decision, not a 'bad' decision. He's happy, he's in the NFL, he'll make his money.
STACY NY JETS FAN
The Jets Offensive line was horrendous last season at best and they lost some key veterans to. The Jets only drafted two offensive linemen even though they were first round picks in your opinion did the Jets do enough to improve there offensive line any from last years or will it be worse for Chad Pennington this season?
Gary Horton (4:05 PM)
They drafted the two best guys at their respective positions, OT Ferguson and C Mangold, and rarely to you get that kind of quality on one unit in the draft. It gives them a strong nucleus to build around and I think they can fill in the blanks to start to rebuild this line. Ferguson was a no-brainer but Mangold was a very astute pick late in the first.
How do you think the Packers draft has been so far?Is A.J Hawk as good as advertised?
Gary Horton (4:07 PM)
I love Hawk's motor, he is a sideline-to-sideline player and makes highlight plays in the open field. I'm concerned, though, about his ability to take on blocks in the NFL. He'll face bigger linemen in the NFL and his stack and shed ability will become the most important part of whether he becomes a good or great player. He's is not a particularly physical guy and if I were the Packers I would protect him as much as possible and let him play in space.
Steve Muench (4:11 PM)
Yes. McNeill is a better prospect than Trueblood because be moves better, and even Winston would have been a better option. McNeill, Winston, then maybe Truebloood would fall in line after them. As for Joseph, he was the best guard available but they could have gotten much better value at guard later in the draft.
Joseph (San Francisco)
is vernon davis going to help alex smith become an elite quarterback?
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:17 PM)
I don't know that one player alone can do that, but he's a step in the right direction. Not only does he create huge matchup problems he is also that guy who can convert on third down, which makes a young QB keep the chains moving and gives him a weapon he can trust when he's in trouble.
Mauricio (Mexico City)
What rating would you give the Dolphins' draft so far?
Steve Muench (4:19 PM)
I like the first two picks a lot. Hagan has the potential to become a No. 2, possession kind of receiver, and Allen is coming off a season-ending injury but is extremely versatile. That's great for Saban's defense.
How is DeAngelo Williams going to fit into the Panthers system and why didnt the Dolphins go for a QB (say a Omar Jacobs type)..
Scouts, Inc.'s Gary Horton (4:22 PM)
He's an excellent pick because he's a pure runner and though he's not the pounder they've had in the past this is a team that likes to control the clock so he will get a lot of carries. He will take a lot of hits and needs to hold up physically, but he can give them more big plays and long runs than they've been getting from the RB spot.
Oakland drafted Pat McQuistan in the 3rd round but he's listed as Dallas' 7th round pick. What's up?
Buzzmaster (4:26 PM)
Good question...Buzz is initiating an investigation as we speak...
Buzzmaster (4:28 PM)
They're brothers...PAUL went to Oakland in the third and PAT went to Dallas in the seventh...
Steve Muench (4:29 PM)
I'm taking over for a minute...
What could the Falcons get for T.J. Duckett if he is traded.
Steve Muench (4:32 PM)
JJ, obviously they would only get a seventh round pick in this year's draft obviously. If they tried to do it for a pick next year, they wouldnt get much either necause he hasn't produced.
Green Bay picked up three wideouts with their first seven picks, of the three who looks the best?
Steve Muench (4:37 PM)
Blackmon s versatile but he isn't great in any one area. Rodgers has good quickness and speed but drops some passess so Jennings is the guy, He runs crisp rutes, he catches the ball well and he can produce after the catch
Gary - Cincinnati
What do you think of the Bengals selection of Reggie McNeal. Are they looking for a "Randle El" ?
Steve Muench (4:39 PM)
McNeal has more potential at quarterback than Randle El but I expect the Bengals will take advanatge of his versatility much like the Steelers did with Randle El.
What does drafting Sinorice Moss mean for the Giants?
Steve Muench (4:40 PM)
A lot. He is a threat to go the distance every time he touches the ball and he should complement Plaxico Burress extemely well.
Can Scott or Matua start for the Lions this season or are they just solid back ups?
Steve Muench (4:43 PM)
Scott could but only because Kelly Butler hasn;t played as well as hoped.
Jay (Buffalo NY)
Im a real big dolphins fan and I'm just not to sold on Jason Allen. I think that they could have gone else where. Do you agree??
Steve Muench (4:44 PM)
I understand your reservations but I'm a big fan of Allen so I guess you are barking up the wrong tree.
Do you think J. Williams will make a impact with the falcons this year?
Steve Muench (4:47 PM)
Yes, There is no questioning his talent and I like the idea of him lining up in the same secondary as Hall.
Buzzmaster (4:55 PM)
Sorry for the delay, folks...Let's chat amongst ourselves for a few...Who out there couldn't be happier about the draft their favorite team put together? Why?
I think the 9ers had a great draft...addressed their needs and did what they needed to do!
I'm really happy Seattle drafted some strong men!
Buzzmaster (4:56 PM)
Compared to you and Buzz, they're all strong men...
i loved the pats picks on opening day but im dissapointed with what they are doing right now...why not addressing the db and lb siuations???
Titans have had a great draft. WE pick up a good QB and a first round RB and have filled some holes on Defense
Brian (Brookline, MA)
I like what Buffalo did by putting together their board and sticking with it- whether it was popular or not.
Buzzmaster (4:57 PM)
You might be the first person who's said that, Ryan...
Adam (University Park, PA)
Washington...they did a great job in Free Agency and just did what little holes they had left. There wasn't too much they had to do during the draft, but I liked how they filled holes.
I think the Cards have had their best draft ever. I liked all thier picks except thier last one (wasted PR move).
Let me be the first to say Mario Williams WILL be better than Julius Peppers.
Buzzmaster (5:01 PM)
Going out on a limb...That's what we like...Though Buzz has to disagree...
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (5:01 PM)
Ok, lets finish up the 2006 Draft.
Marv Levy has lost his mind!
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (5:02 PM)
I would not go that far, but I think he learned this week that being a Head Coach is a lot different than running your own Draft.
How about who doesn't understand what his team did... two return specialists as the Bears top two picks?? What are your thoughts on the Bears draft?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (5:04 PM)
I did not like it. They needed to find some playmakers and they didn't. The first offensive player they drafted was a FB.
should the ravens of picked a Qb in the draft?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (5:04 PM)
Not this year. They are going to give Boller one more shot. If he struggles again a QB is a "lock" next season.
Jeremy whats the story on why Rodrique Wright was available in the 7th round
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (5:06 PM)
Work ethic. He also came off very lax in his interviews. I think teams were scared about bringing him in to the locker room because of these issues.
Any thoughts on why the Patriots did not pick a linebacker in this draft?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (5:07 PM)
They went with value in the first few rounds. By the time they got around to thinking about taking a LB, there wasn't a lot out there that they felt would upgrade them.
Were Charles Spencer and Eric Winston huge steals for the Texans?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (5:08 PM)
YES. They got two guys at positions of need that were projected to go in the 2nd round.
Jon (West Virginia)
Why have so many teams passed on Dee Webb?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (5:10 PM)
He has had some character issues and he is a 'flash" player. This means teams feel he has a lot of talent and are not really excired about having to consistently motivate him to get his best performance.
john (ithaca, NY)
Do you expect that a team will take a flyer on Vick in the 7th?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (5:13 PM)
I would say no, excepth the Raiders have the last pick of the draft and could use a young QB. He has 'Raider" written all over him.
What draft grade would you give the Eagles? Who was their best player picked?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (5:15 PM)
I like the fact they bolstered both sides of their line. The best player they picked is Bunkley. The player with the most upside is Justice.
Are you surprised about any one who is still available?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (5:16 PM)
Joe (Los Angeles)
how will joseph addai turn out for the colts? is he a steal?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (5:18 PM)
I think he is. I have him very closely graded to Maroney and D. Williams. He is not the best pure runner out of those guys, but he does have the best intangibles. He is smart, catches the ball well and he can pick up the blitz. He will be the starter and do tothe nature of their offense, I think he has a legit shot at being the OROY.
Jeremy, if VIck is not drafted, does he catch on with a team in free agency?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (5:18 PM)
Yes, someone would take him as a free agent.
Josh (San Antonio, Tx)
Miami probably got the best bargain of the draft...do you guys agree?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (5:20 PM)
Miami just stole two players in this round who might help them. Wright was considered to be a first round guy at one point and this WR Aromashuda they just took from Auburn is 6'2+ and ran 4..35 at the combine.
Teck (Foxboro, MA)
What is the difference between picking someone up in the 7th round of the draft or picking someone up in free agency? They seem practically similair, and with a guy with Marcus Vick's talent, you can't say he isn't worth being drafted.
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (5:21 PM)
the biggest difference is about 25,000-40,000 is Signing Bonus money.
what happened to martin nance? wasn't he supposed to go in the third round?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (5:22 PM)
Some teams had him on their medical board from his 2004 knee injury. There are also concerns with his speed - teams don't think he will be able to separate at the NFL level.
jeremy when will marcus vixk get his name called?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (5:24 PM)
Yes... he is my Mr irrelevant pick
Jake (Philadelphia, PA)
The Eagles definitely improved their offensive and defensive lines through the draft and free agency, but why not draft an OLB (excluding the wierd hybrid Chris Gocong, because who's he anyway)
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (5:26 PM)
I think Eagles fans are going to grow to love CoCong. He had 23.5 sacks as a Senior, 4 forced fumbles, 31 TFL's - this guy just dominated his level of play. He has a better motor than any player drafted and will be a monster on special teams while he adjusts to the OLB position.
how would you rate the bills' draft thus far? Who is there bst player taken and who has the most upside?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (5:27 PM)
I would give them a D because they picked players out of position. Whitner has the most upside - you just don't take him at #8 overall.
Any chance Dee Webb becomes a good corner or is he stricly gonna be a nickle back type of player?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (5:27 PM)
Small DC with very good quickness and speed. I don't think he will ever be a starter, but he can develop into a good #3.
Jeremy, not much talk about the Bucs how do you think they did?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (5:30 PM)
I would give them a B-. Joseph and Trueblood filled needs but they were a bit of a reach. I like Stovall in the 3rd - he had a great senior season in Weiss' offense. I like the QB Gradowski in the 2nd day.
spencer havner not picked yet some 1 should snatch him up
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (5:32 PM)
I agree. This is a case where he ran in the 4.7 range so people are down on him. With him you throw the 40-time out the window. The guy plays faster and he makes plays.
JJ (Pleasentville, NY)
What is your opinion on Nate Salley, Saftey from Ohio State, and was it a good pick for Carolina?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (5:34 PM)
He has great size and is an explosive tackler. He is smart - has a great feel for the game. The only real down fall is that he doesn't haver very good speed and may be exposed in coverage.
How do you think Rocky MacIntosh will adjust to Gregg William's system?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (5:37 PM)
Real well. Rocky is a smart and versatile LB that can play three spots. He is a guy that is very good leader. He is a guy that will have an early impact for the Skins.
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (5:38 PM)
OK guys.. Keith Kidd is going to bring you guys home.
I'm a huge saints fan...always have been despite their success in the past years but i really think that this post season they are really tryin to put together a championship caliber team and adding Bush i think will uplift all of New Orleans and i think its the Saints year this year
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (5:42 PM)
The Texans allowed the Saints to have good draft by not taking Reggie Bush. I don't think their a championship caliber team yet, but they are starting to put the pices in place to make a run at the NFC South race in future years.
I feel like the Cowboys did not fill any of their positional needs in this draft like free safety. How would you rate the Cowboys Draft and do you agree with their selections?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (5:46 PM)
Carpenter was a good pick and Fasano is better run blocker than Witten. They also addressed a need at safety by taking Patrick Watkins out of FSU in the 5th round.
Thoughts on the Browns draft?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (5:48 PM)
The Browns have had a great draft and Cleveland fans should be excited about the upcoming season!!!! GM Phil Savage has done an excellent job of upgrading this team during the off-season.
I don't get what the Giants were doing with all their early draft movement. Why so many DEs?
Scouts, Inc.'s Jeremy Green (5:52 PM)
They have taken one DE in the draft and that was their 1st round pick Kiwanuka. Other than that they have addressed WR, ILB, DT, OT, DS and DC.
Why didnt the texans pick winston justice over demeco ryans, is demco really that good?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (5:54 PM)
It was a value pick and they had Ryans graded higher over Justice.
how would you grade the jets??
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (5:57 PM)
The Jets have answered a lot of needs on their football team. Hopefully, they have gotten four starters on the first day of the draft in Ferguson, Mangold, Schlegel and Eric Smith.
Is there any reason other than speed that Mike Hass would have fallen to the 6th round?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (6:02 PM)
Your right !!!! Because the reason he dropped down draft boards was the lack of speed.
David (Fresno, CA)
Do you think that the 49ers will have a more successful this season than last?
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (6:04 PM)
The 49ers have improved this off-season but they are still going to struggle with the continue development of QB Alex Smith. They have gained some ground on the Rams, but have a ways to go on the Cardinals and Seahawks.
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (6:06 PM)
Mr. Irrelevent is WR Kevin McMahan of MAINE....
Scouts, Inc.'s Keith Kidd (6:08 PM)
Thanks for joining us with the NFL draft and good luck this season.
Buzzmaster (6:10 PM)
