Chat with Jammal Brown!
![]() |
According to Scouts, Inc., Browns ''has been a fulltime starter and first team All-Big 12 the past three seasons (2002-'04). Brown doesn't have elite size but he keeps getting bigger and stronger. He has excellent feet and good overall athletic ability, which is why he shows the potential to start at the LOT position in the NFL.''
ESPN NFL Draft guru Mel Kiper projects Brown to be taken at No. 19 by the St. Louis Rams.
Send your questions now and jon Jammal in The Show on Thursday at 2 p.m. ET.
Buzzmaster (2:04 PM)
Hey folks, Jammal will be here any minute. Keep sending in those questions, we'll get rolling shortly.
Buzzmaster (2:06 PM)
Hello everyone.. hang tight. We should get going with Jammal soon.
Jammal Brown (2:12 PM)
Good afternoon, everybody.
Jeremy (Tulsa, OK)
Hey J, why did you choose to go to Oklahoma? Was it tradition, opportunity to start, etc. Do you feel that Oklahoma did a good job of preparing you for the next level?
Jammal Brown (2:14 PM)
I visited five schools -- Kent, Tenn, NEbraska, Miami and Oklahoma -- but I really like Coach Stoops and I saw what he did in his first year and I believe in what he preched ... also, I'm from Oklahoma so that made it nice and easy on my family.
Jammal Brown (2:15 PM)
At Oklahoma -- every day at practice, I was up against great players, a lot of times, Saturday, game days, were easier than games. Playing against those others talented Sooners every day out there really prepared me for the NFL more that any where else.
Onder (Norman)
Jammal, who would win in an arm restling contest, you or Davin Joseph? Boomer Sooner!
Jammal Brown (2:16 PM)
Davin's got those real big hands, so he's got a slight advantage ... but I think I have the natural strength to take him.
Jammal Brown (2:16 PM)
But it won't be easy, though!
jeff ( newark,ohio)
whats the one thing you have learned in the process of the draft
Jammal Brown (2:18 PM)
The biggest thing is that it's all a business. They check out your personal life and your injuies from way back in history, so this draft process started way back in your first year b/c anything that you did -- on or off the field --- from your rookie year to the combine, they want to know about it. So, another thing is, the draft process is years long.
Jerry (Montreal, QC)
Hey...If you are chosen as projected by Kiper as pick 19 in the 1st round, what kind of contract do you expect? How will that change your life?...have a great draft...
Jammal Brown (2:19 PM)
If I go 19th to the Rams -- who is in need of a right tackle -- that would be great for me to go in and play right away. I don't know much about how much money I'm going to make but I hope to get a 5-year contract instead of a 6-year. I'll just be blessed to go anywhere in the first round, that would work for me!
Carl (Cedar Rapids)
Have u talked to the Rams?
Jammal Brown (2:20 PM)
I actually visited the Rams yesterday, I liked it a lot, I think I'd fit in very well in St. Louis. I'd get to learn from the best, that is Orlando and I also really like their front office and all that they are willing to do for the team.
Curt (Toledo, Ohio)
What position do you feel is the more natural position for yourself in the pros: Left tackle or right?
Jammal Brown (2:21 PM)
I started off playing left tackle and I made the switch to right. So, right now I'd say I"m more comfortable at right, but it would probably be pretty easy for me to switch back over to left. The footwork is not that much different to me.
Keith (Cedar Rapids)
How will you be relaxing on Draft Saturday ? Will you be in NYC ?
Jammal Brown (2:23 PM)
I'll be in Oklahoma with my family on draft day. It's going to be a long draft, I think, with trades and things. So, I'm anxious to spend that day with my family and watch with them and see where I'll be spending the next couple years of my life.
Andrew (Saint Louis)
Jamaal, in practice i'm sure you faced off against Dan Cody. Who won in that matchup?
Jammal Brown (2:24 PM)
You know, Dan and I didn't go against each other that much. When we did face off, he's a good pass-rusher, but you know ... I had to give him the business every now and then! You can tell him I said that when he gets here at 3!
Shawn, New Orleans
Have the Saints talked to you about bieng their pick? There has been alot of talk down here about them bieng interested in you.
Jammal Brown (2:25 PM)
I didn't visit the Saints -- but they came and worked me out and I went out to dinner with the New Orleans O-line coach. I visited Baltimore, Philly, Buffalo, Tennessee, Pittsburgh, New England and St. Louis.
Shaun, TX
Jammal, thanks for finally leaving OU. Now maybe my Horns can win the Red River Shoot Out next year. What was it like playing in the rivalry?
Jammal Brown (2:27 PM)
OU-Texas is -- I mean -- that is the most exciting weekend, it's a real big deal in Oklahoma and I'm sure in TExas ... but being able to win it in five years in a row was amazing. Oklahoma has Texas' number right now, but you're right Shaun, it should be pretty close for you guys next year.
Ray (NY)
Hi Jammal - who was your favorite pro team growing up?
Jammal Brown (2:27 PM)
I grew up rooting for the San Francisco 49eres. I was a Rice and Montana fan. I liked Montana a lot b/c in junior high I played quarterback.
Shazad (Carrollton, TX)
JB, rookies get practical jokes played on them all the time, does this cause you to have butterflies in your stomach?
Jammal Brown (2:28 PM)
I can take in, in Oklahoma, our guys had a lot of fun with pranks, too, it's just part of being a rookie. YOu just have to serve your time as the new guy. No hard feelings, it's all in good fun.
Jon (Pittsburgh)
Hey Jamal what is the first thing you will buy when you sign an NFL contract?
Jammal Brown (2:29 PM)
I'll probably by my father a house in the suburbs of Oklahoma City.
SoonerGimp (Los Angeles, CA)
Mr. Brown, Knowing that you'll be a millionaire and superstar NFL player at the end of the week. Do you consider it your responsibilty to be a role model to young kids?
Jammal Brown (2:31 PM)
Yes, I think that responsibilty comes with the contract. Little kids watch NFL, I'm sure kids from Oklahoma will follow me and they are going to want to see me do good and I am going to have to be a responsible role model.
Amy (Ft. Worth, TX)
Jammal, What are you most excited about by playing in the NFL ?
Jammal Brown (2:32 PM)
The most exciting thing about this is to be able to fufil this dream. To be wanting to do this since I was a young boy, and now actually having the opportunity to join a professional team is just, it's just amazing.
Alex (Miami)
Jammaal, Were things as tough as you thought when you were at the combine? And which team impressed you the most during interviews?
Jammal Brown (2:33 PM)
Most of the teams ask and say basically the same stuff at the combine, it's hard to differentiate. They all ask about you and your family and your injuries. As far as how difficult it was, well, I think the mental part of it was the hardest. Waking up early and being able to prepare myself to put forth my best in front of all those people.
Billy (Ada and Oklahoma)
Jammal, have you made any good friends going through this whole process?
Jammal Brown (2:35 PM)
Me and Khalif Barnes have gotten pretty close and Richie Incognito and Marcus Johnson.
Wichita KS
What do you miss most about Oklahoma?
Jammal Brown (2:36 PM)
Being around the guys and being able to play inside that stadium with the fans and all the support. I'll miss all that.
Danielle (Norman)
I just wanted to say thanks for kickin' tail while you were at OU. You guys make my mom happy.
Jammal Brown (2:37 PM)
Thanks! Thanks for taking the time to log on today and thank you for all the support over the last few years at Oklahoma. God bless!
Buzzmaster (2:38 PM)
Thanks Jammal. Hey Texas fans, it's your turn now. Your boy Derrick Johnson is up next at 3 ET. Send in those questions now!
