It's 1:00! Here we go! Check your pulse, SportsNation!
Dayne (Brewton,GA)
Week 3 Pulse comenses now!
THE PULSE (1:03 PM)
My first question for you guys is -- Alex or Aaron?
THE PULSE (1:04 PM)
OR, if you prefer -- who will make the better pro -- Braylon Edwards or Mike Williams?
Steele (Bloomington)
Alex without a doubt.
Johnstone (Chicago)
Alex, too many underachievers with Tedford QBs
Dayne (Brewton,GA)
Alex..in this day in the NFL you need to run and pass and he can do both. Plus playing what he went through ...he knows adversity!
marcus ((l.a.,ca))
aaron rodgers no question
Sean (Hermosa Beach, CA)
Smith reminds me too much of Couch.
THE PULSE (1:11 PM)
Great stuff, guys. How about some WNBA comments??
Jordan (Columbus)
Janel McCarville is great! She makes Charlotte better no doubt!
Kim ((Atlanta))
McCarville is a beast AND a great personality! Great first pick!!
Sean (Hermosa Beach, CA)
I've been watching the WNBA all season....they are called the Lakers.
THE PULSE (1:14 PM)
Easy Sean! :)
Kim (Minny, MN)
Are you concerned about McCarville's (lack of) height? Can her physical style of play and intensity make up for any disadvantage in inches?
THE PULSE (1:14 PM)
You're on TV right now Kim!
Jeff ( St. Paul)
What kind of impact do you expect from McCarville in her rookie season? What made you choose Janel first and what adjustments do you think she will have to make in the WNBA?
THE PULSE (1:15 PM)
You're on TV Jeff!
john (atlanta)
whens jimmie johnson gonna be on
THE PULSE (1:16 PM)
We're going to talk a little NFL Draft with Randy Mueller and then throw it over to Jimmie Johnson so send in your NASCAR questions and comments now!
THE PULSE (1:25 PM)
If football or NASCAR isn't your bag, I need some NBA questions and comments from y'all. Who will win the West? Who will win the East? Talk to me, SportsNation!
THE PULSE (1:34 PM)
What do you guys think about LeBron's chances this year?
Bobby: (Morgantown, WV)
Jimmy, do you think Nascar has gotten a little ridiculous with the points penalties?
THE PULSE (1:39 PM)
You're on TV Bobby!
THE PULSE (1:41 PM)
Hey NASCAR fans, if you missed Jimmie, Mike Massaro is up next after some NBA ... Send in your questions now, just be sure to address them to MIKE.
Josh (Minnesota)
It's starting to look like Shaq and the Heat are no longer the beasts of the East.
PistonsD (Dearborn)
Lebron is going to be a great all-star in this leauge. But Batman couldn't do it without Robin, and Lebron for next year has no Robin.
THE PULSE (1:50 PM)
You're on TV, Dearborn!
Robert (Laconia,NH)
i think that neither of those teams will win the east i think u got a sleeper team in the celtics
THE PULSE (1:50 PM)
You too, Robert!
Brady: Gillett, Arkansas
The Heat will win the East, but Steve Nash's fast paced offense lets Phoenix take the West, but in the end, the Flash and Shaq will take the NBA title.
Robert (Laconia,NH)
if the heat is not beast of the east them who is
Jimmy Jones (Philidelphia, Pa.)
Shaq was out for a little while, just give them some time they will be back to the beasts they were.
Michael (Nesbit)
Miami is going to make a run but I wonder about the chemistry between Shaq and Zo?
Harmony (Sacramento, California)
West: Phoenix SunsEast: Detroit PistonsWinner: Detroit PistonsLebron isnt gunna make it he is going to drop out and the Nets are going to lose in the first round to Miami instead.
Michael (Nesbit)
Lebron is going through the same thing MJ did when he arrived in the league. The simple fact is he needs another star to help him shine. If Coby has been humbled enough by this season then he, as Lakers GM, can try and trade for James and they'll become one of the leagues elite teams again. I don't see another superstar wanting to go to Cleveland.
Jason (Miami)
LeBron couoldnt take on the Heat and if they make it, it looks like an 8 seed...
LaRay (Cleveland, Ohio)
Unless the Cavs can get some production from Z, J-Mac, and the entire bench, I don't see it happening
Mike (Tallahassee)
The Cavs are finished and in no way is it his fault. This guy is playing practically every minute of the game giving it all he can, but it hasnt been and isnt going to be enough to get them to the playoffs. Jersey is the hotter team with an easier schedule. They each have 3 games left...jersey wins out, cavs strike out.
Jimmy Jones (Philly)
LeBron James is too young to carry a whole team by himself, he needs more help.
THE PULSE (1:55 PM)
Alright guys, nice job talking back to us. Now we're talking a little more NASCAR with Mike Massaro. After that we'll talk alittle soccer in Salt Lake and then, we're going to need some more emails. JOE MOGLIA the CEO of Ameritrade and the former defensive coordinator at Dartmouth. Send in your questions TO JOE about athletes' finances and investments and wealthy woes.
Robert (Laconia,NH)
this is too cool voice of the fan is awsome
THE PULSE (1:57 PM)
Glad you like it, Robert. I think our anchor even gave you and New Hampshire a little shout out!
Mark (los angeles,ca)
To MIKE my question is what has happened to Dale JR.?Is it late for him to make a run this season?
THE PULSE (1:58 PM)
You're on Mark!
mark (los angeles,ca)
thanx pulse
THE PULSE (2:00 PM)
Alright, now we really need those questions for Joe Moglia, the CEO of Ameritrade.
THE PULSE (2:11 PM)
We also have Portland, Oregon beat writer Geoff Arnold coming up on THE PULSE. Send in those Blazers questions now!
JB (Shreveport, LA)
I would have to invest 50 mil. Begin trust funds, IRAs, etc. Start the generational wealth thing for my family.
THE PULSE (2:15 PM)
You're a wise man, JB.
nicolas (los angeles,ca)
put alot away in case of emergency and for my familiy
Robert (Laconia,NH)
i would ivest it beacuse my 4yr old son can have a futre
Ron (Baltimore)
Do you think buying a hummmer and bling-bling are rational things to buy?
THE PULSE (2:18 PM)
I don't know if it's rational ... but it's probable?
Blake (NYC)
Athletes are greedy and ungrateful, that's how they go bankrupted!
THE PULSE (2:19 PM)
You were just on THE PULSE Blake!
Josh (Minnesota)
Two words for Terrell Owens - GROW UP
Donovon Clyde, Ohio
Joe Moglia considering your position with Ameritrade would say it would be harder to pick a stock or player that would end up as a Blue Chiper?
THE PULSE (2:20 PM)
You're on TV Donovon!
Brandon (Seattle)
What's the best thing for athletes to invest in? Restaurants? Record business? ... Car wash??
THE PULSE (2:20 PM)
You're on Brandon!
THE PULSE (2:30 PM)
Alright we'll talk Blazers next... then, coming up, we've got NHL goalie Dwayne Roloson. Send in those hockey questions and comments now!
Chris (Minneapolis)
When's Roloson coming on?
THE PULSE (2:31 PM)
Very soon, I need some questions and comments for him to talk about!
THE PULSE (2:39 PM)
Alright, we've got Dwaye Roloson coming up at 2:40 ET, then we'll talk about the Sheffield incident at Fenway (specifically, how should Sheff be punished?) ... then we'll talk to Andre Ware who is with Steve Spurrier and finally we'll talk to Mel Kiper Jr
Kirby (Montreal)
Rolly!!
THE PULSE (2:42 PM)
What do you think about the lockout?
Robert (Laconia,NH)
i think thats it's the owners fault beacuse where else can u take so many hits and get under paid they need the money
Austin (Montrose, CO)
The NHL has already thrown away this season it is time for those involved to realize the longer their inablility to compromise drags on (which is what they teach in elementry school), the more the game and its fan base will be hurt.
Rocky (New Waterford)
Hi Dwayne, would you agree with my statement, the popularity of hockey is on life support in the USA?
THE PULSE (2:45 PM)
You're on TV Rocky!
Michael (Nesbit)
When I read that the player's salaries were a much greater percentage of the total Hockey revenue and they still didn't understand why the owners felt they needed a salary cap I said forget them. The players contend that replacement players can't draw crowds because they don't have the big names but guess how they can get the big names? By playing in the NHL in front of those diehard fans who just want to see hockey back.
shana (los angeles,ca)
Why should we believe in hockey?
THE PULSE (2:48 PM)
You're on, Shana!
JB (Shreveport, LA)
Do you think it will take drastic rule changes that will increase scoring, to bring the casual fan to hockey? Olympic rules seem to work well.
THE PULSE (2:49 PM)
You're on now, JB!
John (Jefferson, OH)
Hockey needs to shrink the size of the league and salaries if they want to get the diehard fans back.
Paul (New Haven)
Ohhh, I miss hockey!
THE PULSE (2:51 PM)
Sorry Paul, wipe your eyes, come back and talk baseball. Should Sheff be punished for the 'right field fan incident' at Fenway?
Scott (Tipp City, Ohio)
Gary Sheffield did nothing wrong and should not punished in any way shape or form.
Robert (Laconia,NH)
nothing and i'm a big red sox fan
Chris (Minneapolis)
Sheffield should get a 10 game ban
Marcus (loa angeles)
GARY SHEFFIELD should be suspended if MILTON BRADLEY got five days he should get 10 days!Bradley didnt touch a fan Sheffield did!!!
Dave (Camden Maine)
This wouldnt even be talked about if the brawl in the nba never happened
Adam ((Nampa,ID))
Sheff deserves the right to be silent and play ball. He shouldnt get punished for swatting at the flies that were around his head
Taylor (Bakersfield, Ca)
I do not believe that Sheffield should be punnished at all for what he did. The fan was being a dope, and he deserved what he got, Sheffield should not be suspended
THE PULSE (2:54 PM)
It sounds like you -- the fans of SportsNation -- are on Sheff's side, this time.
Ron (Baltimore)
I don't think Gary Sheffield should be punished at all... It's not like he went into the stands and attacked a fan. He just pushed him back.. Self Defense... He kept his cool
THE PULSE (2:55 PM)
You're on Ron!
vrs (new london)
Why should sheffield be punished? If you are not a pro, stay off the field or court or ice of play. If one does not understand that, then prance out to the fifty yard line when the patriots/anybody are playing and see what happens to ya.....
THE PULSE (2:55 PM)
You too VRS!
Sam (Lexington, MA)
I've watched the replay of the Sheffield incident, and the worst I saw happen was a woman accidentally spill her beer. Gary's a crybaby.
THE PULSE (2:56 PM)
Sam's on TV!
Juan Carlos Fernandez (santiago, dominican republic)
MLB can't allow this, the have to put an example, Gary overreacted, the fan didn't punch him, he just touch him, he is a man, he isn't made of glass
Jeff (Roseburg Or)
If fans want to mess with player then we should do like hockey, let them go at it then put them into penalty boxes.I promise you would not have anyone wanting to take on a 230lb Baseball player
THE PULSE (2:56 PM)
Interesting take, Jeff.
frank (new york)
MEDIA STOP WORSHIPING THE PLAYER
THE PULSE (2:57 PM)
Whoa! Frank! It's not the media -- this is the fans talking.
tommy (nyc)
That fan, should be the one in trouble. He delibrately swatted at Sheff's head.
Schaun (Estherville)
Yes, the fan started the whole problem, if he does stick his arm into the field of play and hit sheff none of that happens
Harry (Maryland)
Sheffield should be praised. That situation could have been a lot worse.
Robert (Laconia,NH)
who is coming on now
THE PULSE (2:59 PM)
We're going to talk a little more NFL Draft in the last hour w/ Randy Mueller and Mel Kiper Jr. AND we'll get to Andre Ware and Steve Spurrier when the Garnet - Black game is over.
Robert (Laconia)
Is everything ok in bristol???
THE PULSE (3:13 PM)
Yes sir, we're wating on the game to end in South Carolina, so we're doing some schedule shuffling, but we're still here taking your questions and comments. Got anything for me on Spurrier in Carolina?
Eric (Kansas City, KS)
Steve Spurrier was a product of a superior talent pool coming to Florida. He is a mediocre coach at best, and I will enjoy watching him fail at South Carolina. It's going to be tough to run up the score when he's not winning.
Johnstone (Chicago)
10-10 in the South Carolina Spring Game..... Spurrier is back!!!!
THE PULSE (3:15 PM)
Great stuff, SportsNation. Andre Ware is on the way. Hit me with your South Carolina questions for Andre.
John (Jefferson, OH)
I think that if Spurrier does not get enough high caliber players then he will find out skipping out on Florida to go to South Carolina was a big mistake.
THE PULSE (3:17 PM)
Do you guys agree with Eric that Spur is just a mediocre coach?
Paul (Chicago)
He is in no way a mediocre coach.... Tell me the last time Duke made a bowl game???? Spurrier will have that program running well in 2-3 years..
tom* (parkville, md)
I a little concerned he'll go the way of Gibbs or Parcells in the NFL: great coach for a previous era, not so great today.
Taylor (Bakersfield, Ca)
NO Way Steve is a future Hall Of Famer IMO
Rocky (New Waterford)
I think Spurrier tenure in the NFL really tarnished his image, come on the guy won with Danny Wuerffel!
John (Jefferson, OH)
Yes. He succeeded in Florida with talent and did nothing in the NFL. He needs to have the best players to do anything good.
schaun (Estherville)
No.. You need a good coach with good players to win in ANY sport
Derrick (New Oxford, PA)
Spurrier is a mediocre coach because hes not good enough to take bad team and make them a National Champ.
THE PULSE (3:20 PM)
Is that the litmus test? Taking bad guys good places?
Jon (Gate City, Virginia)
A mediocre coach? How could you say that about him?! Look what he did at Duke. He made them a competing team when he was there and turned Florida into a threat for the national title each and every year.
Aaron (Kansas City)
Mediocre or not he brings in the talent.... Before Spurrier in Florida it was not the recruit magnet it was with him.
Robert (Laconia,NH)
he got lucky in fla. with that national tiltle ... it'll will take a long time to beat USC.
Johnstone (Chicago)
Too many people hack on Spurrier for his performance in the NFL which has salary caps and in his case a crazy owner. Give him a chance to recruit his own team and he will win with them, no doubt.
Roderick (Leander, TX)
Spurrier's name is authenic. He'll be able in the future to steal some of the recruits who would otherwise sign with Florida or Georgia schools. Give him some time, I'd say 3-5 years, or maybe even less time than that. He's a winning coach by record
Jeremy (South Jersey)
I think Spurrier is a mediocre coach, BUT his reputation with what he has done with a talented group of kids at Florida will lead to him getting a few solid recruiting classes. No natinal titles, but in the next couple years, S.C. will become a contender for the lower bowls.
Aaron (Kansas City)
Spurrier and the NFL will never work, because he can not play his mind games with NFL players and coaches. The League Office will not allow his media quotes about the other coaches and players.
Robert (Laconia,NH)
we'll he won't win the sec title in college, either.
THE PULSE (3:25 PM)
Alright, some of you folks are all fired up ... if Spurrier isn't your bag, how about sending us your opinions on the NBA West. ... Memphis, San An, Dallas, Minnesota -- what do you think?? Be The PULSE!
Adam (Nampa,Id)
So who is up next again ?!
Travis (Provo)
It's Heisman winner Andre Ware!
Jon (Gate City, Virginia)
Spurrier's time in the NFL was like Rick Pitino in the NBA. Spurrier was excellent in college and still is. But with his ideas going to the NFL, they all fizzled on him.
Trey, La Porte, Tx
Andre, did you see anything in the South Carolina team that resembled the great Ware to Manny Hazard connection?
THE PULSE (3:29 PM)
YOU are on TV, Trey!
Johnstone (Chicago)
Did you hear that stat SportsNation 81% winning percentage in college..... Mediocre, huh??
Adam (Nampa,Id)
Ok enough about spurrier !
THE PULSE (3:32 PM)
Alright, alright. Off to the NBA West we go!
KJ (Clayton, NC)
How do you send a email and get on TV?
THE PULSE (3:33 PM)
You're in the right place KJ. These questions and comments are great today, SportsNation. We've got thousands of comments, so don't be discouraged if you don't get on today. And remember ... It's only our third show!! You gotta be loyal and keep writing to us!
Scott (Tipp City,Ohio)
Phoenix's short bench will be there down fall the further they go into the playoffs. If Duncan is healthy San Antonio takes the West.
Chris (Philly)
San Antonio is probably the best in the West but Dallas is one of those teams that are good at one point and shut down at another
Adam (Nampa,Id)
Well the Sonics are gonna win some playoff games but I dont know if they have the power to make it all the way
THE PULSE (3:35 PM)
The Sonics? ... I don't know either, Adam.
Roderick (Leander, TX)
Minnesota is fighting to play either Pheonix or San Antonio in the playoffs. Their road reminds me of I-35 between Austin and Dallas-- VERY BUMPY!
Adam (Nampa,Id)
Well I dont know about that ! The Sonics might just show San Antonio whats up and take them for a ride this year !
John (Ohio)
Yeah the Suns have a short bench but they have the best starting 5 since MJ and the Bulls.
ivan (laredo)
Spurs are dominant and the rest are just in their shadow. too bad that talent isn't spread equally around the league to make it more interesting and competitive
Michael (Nesbit)
Has anyone paid attention to how good the Mavs have become sense adding Van Horn. Avery Johnson gets a great deal of credit for giving him the playing time. VH has always been a tough matchup and now that his confidence is back look out Western Conference.
John (Ohio)
What everyone forgets is that Phoenix has been able to stay #1 throughout the season. Even when they lost Steve Nash for a few games. Befor Nash went down they were on schedule to win over 70 games.
Adam (Nampa,Id)
I mean the Sonics were looking good and all for the first part of the season and then they just kind of slacked off
THE PULSE (3:37 PM)
April is not a great time to be slacking off.
Trey, La Porte, Tx
Don't count the Rockets out of the mix in the West. Mike James and Bob Sura compliment T-Mac and Yao well enough for them to make a run.
Preston (Shreveport)
No one better forget about Houston
THE PULSE (3:37 PM)
Ooh, we've even got some Rockets disciples in SportsNation, today.
Scott (Tipp City,Ohio)
Dallas and Houston are the two dangerous teams in the West if they are firing on all cylinders.
Michael R Silvis (Jacksonville, FL)
Sonics slide was because of injury, now that they are healthy, WATCH OUT.
ivan (laredo)
the sonics are in a funk and won't be able to finish off anything.
DC, Marysville, WA
Let's here it for Nate McMillan and the Northwest Division Champion Seattle Supersonics! Despite the recent skid caused mainly by injuries to key players, Coach Mac still deserves the always hotly contested Coach of the Year Award.
Jones (St. LOuis)
I can't believe this many citizens of SportsNation actually care about the NBA.
THE PULSE (3:42 PM)
Ooh. Jones is down on pro hoops. Alright, we're changing gears pretty soon. Hang tight. How about some questions for Mel Kiper Jr. if NBA isn't your thing?
Taylor (Bakersfield, Ca)
Jones, I agree the NBA is a lost cause.
Rocky (New Waterford)
Believe it Jones!
Trey, La Porte, Tx
Well I gotta run, I just want to thank the Pulse, SportsNation and ESPN News for a great show and chance to interact with athletes and analysts. My only suggestion is more on air questions from the fans.
THE PULSE (3:47 PM)
Thanks Trey, we try to take as many as we can while still delivering the news. Thanks for joining us today!
Trey, La Porte, Tx
cool I made it on the air with one of my childhood idols, Andrew Ware, growing up I played on some of the fields - junior high and high school - that he played on.
THE PULSE (3:49 PM)
This is cool stuff. Hey, let me ask you this ... as we are about to shift into NFL Draft mode, I'm going to throw this on the table ... Who was the biggest NFL Draft bust in the last, say, 10 years??
Preston (Shreveport)
Leaf
Jeff (Roseburg Or.)
I say bosworth because i am a seahawks fan
Josh (St. Louis)
Leaf is an obvious choice from a Charger fan's point of view, but remember the draft pick he got traded for? That trade w/the Cardinals was a virtual wash, since Wadsworth basically went nowhere
Stickman (Austin, TX)
Ryan Leaf, no doubt, is the biggest bust EVER in ALL sports! The guy was a loser, and his attitude made things worst!
J.J. (Philly)
Leaf by far!
Steven:(Tampa, Florida)
I'll say Cade McNown. The Bears have a history of QB busts, but he tops their list.
Tim (Odessa,TX)
Leaf was thrown into a bad situation and never had a chance to succeed, i think Courney Brown was a bigger bust, especially for a number 1 overall
Denn (Pittsburgh)
Bosworth
Jake (Costa Rica)
Leaf definitely, Waste of a good arm
Dwight (Baltimore)
Ryan Leaf, hands down.
Sam(Grand Rapids,Mn)
Ryan Leaf, and give Joey Harrington a couple more years and hell be considered one too.
THE PULSE (3:55 PM)
I think SportsNation has spoken -- Ryan Leaf is the biggest bust ever.
Rocky (New Waterford)
I read an article in ESPN the magazine a while ago about Leaf and it seems he is turning his life and attitude around. Good for him in his life after football!
Josh (St. Louis)
oddly enough though, Leaf started his career 2-0, beating Buffalo and Tennessee, it was that sloppy game down in KC that began the end.
THE PULSE (3:59 PM)
Way to end the day on a positive folks! The PULSE Week 3 is in the books. I have to jump out of the control room. We'll see you next week! Thanks for logging on SportsNation ... YOU are The PULSE!
Rocky (New Waterford)
Wow this is only the third show? Is it on every Saturday because this is really a great show!
THE PULSE (3:59 PM)
Thanks Rocky. See you next Saturday!
