Chat with Darryl Blackstock

Scouts, Inc. on Blackstock: ''Blackstock has a natural ability to rush the passer and he is also a very disruptive run-stopper when allowed to get up the field and pursue. Blackstock is disciplined, coachable and a hard-worker, which should allow him to make a smooth transition to the next level.''

The ShowGirl (3:30 PM)
Welcome to The Show! Darryl Blackstock will be here shortly. Send in those questions about his road to the NFL draft now!
Darryl Blackstock (3:32 PM)
How you all doing? I'm ready for your questions.
Odeh (Chicago, IL)
Darryl, How do you feel about the scouts underrating you as a 2nd round LB? I think you are comparable to Lawrence Taylor.
Darryl Blackstock (3:35 PM)
Well I think I could fit in any system that is drafted by me. I'm not offended, I'm still blessed no matter what round I go in. The round isn't that important to me. People will see and they'll know -- I'm not trying to be cocky, but I know myself as a player and I won't settle for anything less than excellence.
CAMERON NORFOLK, VA (!!!!NORFOLK VA)
DONT LET THEM DOUBT YOU SON YOU ARE THE TOTAL PACKAGE
Darryl Blackstock (3:35 PM)
Thank you, Careron.
David (Bethesda, MD)
Hey Darryl, what teams have you visited and what do u think about those teams?
Darryl Blackstock (3:36 PM)
I went to Miami and it is a really beautiful place and they have a great program. The new coach there is probably perfect for that team. I think they will be real productive. That's the only place I've visited so far. I was supposed to go to Kansas City, but they felt like they already had enough information on me so that I didn't need to make the trip in.
Chad (Angus, MN)
Darryl, do you view yourself as strictly a 3-4 outside linebacker or as a complete player who can develop in any scheme?
Darryl Blackstock (3:37 PM)
It doesn't really matter to me, I think I could play outside, to the middle, to the other outside. LB is LB -- it's just different schemes of protection. I think you can either do it or you can't. I think I can do it.
Brandon (PA)
Who did you root for growing up?
Darryl Blackstock (3:39 PM)
Kansas City Chiefs.
SkinS Fan (3:39 PM)
You'd fit right in with my Redskins, Darryl and you'd be close to Virginia ... what do you think??<p>DARRYL BLACKSTOCK: Nah, no contact with the Redskins, I don't really know what they are looking for, but, as the draft goes, you never know what will happen.
tim (san diego,CA)
what's the first thing you will buy when you sign that big nfl contract?
Darryl Blackstock (3:40 PM)
I want to get a projection screen so I can watch film at home just like they do in the football offices.
Brian (Chicago, IL)
Darryl, the Bears are in need of an OLB next to Urlacher and Briggs. Have you been in contact with Chicago?
Darryl Blackstock (3:42 PM)
Ohhh no. I haven't heard anything from the Bears. I have no idea where I'll end up. I mean, I'll probably end up with one of the 3-4 teams, but maybe somebody -- a 4-3 -- will take a chance on me. But, it doesn't really matter to me. I'd be very happy in Chicago. I'll be very happy anywhere.
Darnell (Cleveland, OH)
Darryl, Now that you're out of school and can talk about it, how lucrative was your career at UVA.
Darryl Blackstock (3:44 PM)
It was more of a lesson to be learned, you know, in college you make the decision to be good or not. I wanted to be great, I wanted to dedicate myself to football. If you don't have that outook and that technique in college then you will not perform well. College football is about decsions and dedicating yourself to the sport.
adam k (St. joseph, MO)
Darryl, you had a successful career at Virginia. What did you learn there that has prepared you for the NFL?
Darryl Blackstock (3:46 PM)
I think the biggest lesson I learned was -- there are two Ps. You either prioritize or procrastinate. That's what I learned. I probably prepared and prioritized more than most guys, but I think that always puts you in a better postion. You know, if you are putting off your work and your assingments and training -- that's going to make your days and nights a lot longer. That's the biggest lesson I learned at Virginia.
Jimmy (Bakersfield, CA)
What I like Darryl is that is sounds like you just love to play football. It is very nice in SD
Darryl Blackstock (3:47 PM)
Thanks Jimmy. I'm pretty sure it is. I've heard it's beautiful.
Jackson (Tempe)
Who would be your number one pick in the draft?
Darryl Blackstock (3:47 PM)
Braylon Edwards -- by far.
Darryl Blackstock (3:48 PM)
I think Ken Dorsey could carry the 49ers, the can lead their offense to victory and I think Braylon Edwards would be a great selection for that program, before a quarterback OR a runningback.
Darryl (Alabama)
Darryl, who was your favorite player growing up?
Darryl Blackstock (3:48 PM)
Randy Moss.
Chicago Mike
Forget the Draft, you know your abilities. When you get in the NFL who will be your biggest competition for Defensive Rooke of the Year?
Darryl Blackstock (3:49 PM)
Derrick Johnson. I love competing with him.
Rob (Dallas)
Darryl, who was the toughest running back to bring down that you faced in college?
Darryl Blackstock (3:50 PM)
Probably Larry Johnson my first year.
Darryl Blackstock (3:51 PM)
He had the perfect speed and agility. He never got there too fast or too slow. He was always right on time and tough to grab.
William(New York)
Darryl - Would you like to play for Bill Parcells in Dallas? We are talking about going 3-4!
Darryl Blackstock (3:53 PM)
I love tough coaches -- I don' tlike to hear, "good job" every other play. You don't get too much respect from me by being too nice. I like to know when stuff if great, but 'good job' here and 'good job' there, that stuff gets old. I'd love to play for a tough coach like Bill Parcells.
Brian (Philly)
Alot of my buddies went to UVA, I visited them often. Why would you leave a place as nice as C-Ville before you have to? Isn't UVA ACC Championship Material this year?
Darryl Blackstock (3:54 PM)
Yes, C'ville is beautiful. It's not that. It's just a personal thing. I really feel like I want to play with the best and I want to provide for my family.
Greg (Greenville SC)
Hey Sackstock, since the pros won't let you be #1 in the pros, do you want to go back to being #56 in the pros?
Darryl Blackstock (3:55 PM)
I like to wear 56 ... or 11.
Dayne (Brewton,Ga)
What was your favorite memory of college
Darryl Blackstock (3:55 PM)
When my son was born. THAT was a great moment.
Ryan (Philly)
What do you enjoy most about football? Pass-rushing, forcing a fumble?
Darryl Blackstock (3:56 PM)
Pass-rushing ... all day, every day.
BAD NEWS HERMITAGE (!!!!NORFOLK VA)
WORD UP TO THAT HATE TO SEE YOU GO BUT YOU HAVE TO DO WHATS BEST FOR U AND YOUR FAM
Darryl Blackstock (3:56 PM)
Thank you.
Dayne (Brewton,Ga)
Are you grooming your son to play football?
Darryl Blackstock (3:57 PM)
My son is going to be whatever he wants to be. He'll try to throw a football before a basketball. He's doing that now, actually. He knows what's up, he's going to be big, though.
Buddy, Charlottesville, VA
Would you rather go to a team that is struggling and be the center piece of the defense, or go to a team that is already good and have a chance at a deep playoff run in your first season? Furthermore, what players do you idol at your position? Go 'Hoos!!!
Darryl Blackstock (4:00 PM)
It doesn't matter to me. (laughing) It doesn't really matter to me. I just want to be productive wherever I go.
Darryl Blackstock (4:01 PM)
Thank you for your support. UVA wouldn't be what it is without the fans. You guys are the best. Thanks for joining me today!
The ShowGirl (4:02 PM)
Thanks Darryl, Mark Clayton is up next!
