Chat with Brodney Pool
As a junior last season, Pool led the Sooners with 92 tackles and tallied two interceptions. In 2003, Pool played free safety and finished with 68 total tackles, seven interceptions, six pass breakups and nine tackles for loss.
Scouts, Inc. on Pool: ''In our opinion, Pool is the best free safety prospect in the 2005 draft. He might be a bit of a reach late in the first round but would be a great value anywhere in the second round.''

Buzzmaster (2:56 PM)
Hello everyone! NFL draft prospect Brodney Pool will be here shortly to take your questions!
Brodney Pool (3:01 PM)
I'm here and ready to go!
Saagar (Plainsboro,NJ)
What team has expressed the most interest in you and where do you see yourself playing in the future?
Brodney Pool (3:02 PM)
Around this time you really can't tell. I took a trip to the Jets this past weekend but it's hard to tell who is the most interested. I've taken 8 visits .. NYG, NYJ, KC, Cleveland, NE, Miami, Dallas and Carolina.
Will B. (Va Beach)
who is a player in the league right now that your skills are comparable to?
Brodney Pool (3:03 PM)
I would compare myself to Ed Reed. I just like the way he plays the game. He can do it all.
Matt C(Atlanta, Georgia)
Brodney, a few draft sites have the Atlana Falcons selecting you 1st round 27th pick. How would it feel to be selected on a team with such great coaching and players, especially to be on the same team as Mike Vick, and my boys Rod Coleman and Ed Hartwell. I feel you could be the threat in the secondary that we really need.
Brodney Pool (3:04 PM)
Oh, man. That team will win a championship sooner than later so that would be great. You can't look too much into those draft sits though because you never really know what the front office is thinking. One team told me they laugh at some of those sites because of who they say they are going to take.
bob (nyc)
You didn't take a trip to GB? They need more safety help than anyone!
Brodney Pool (3:06 PM)
(Laughing) I just never got contacted by them. But you can't put too much into the visits. I talked to many players who got picked up by teams that they never visited.
Wesley (Marinette, Wi)
What seperates you from the other players in the draft ala Tomas Davis?
Brodney Pool (3:07 PM)
I don't know enough about the other safeties. I think right now I have the ability to do it all.. I can play man to man, zone, etc. I know football. Hopefully making that NFL transition won't be has hard for me as it will be for some guys.
dex: denver
Brodney, how about playing with John Lynch in Denver? Has Denver talked to you? I think you would be a great addition!
Brodney Pool (3:08 PM)
I didn't talk to Denver although I met with them at the combine. I would love to play with Lynch though. He is a great guy to learn from.
Anwar (Va Beach)
What's the first thing you're gonna buy with the signing bonus?
Brodney Pool (3:08 PM)
I'm not a big buyer. Probably a big screen TV and a new playstation!
Byron (Detroit)
Out of all of the team facilities/stadiums you have visited, which impressed you the most?
Brodney Pool (3:09 PM)
The stadium that was real awesome was Carolina. It looked like a college stadium. It was very nice. Everybody has good facilities though.
bob (nyc)
Are you better in run support or coverage? Don't say both because every prospect to come in here has considered their game flawless.
Brodney Pool (3:10 PM)
If you are making me pick, I'd say coverage. But my best two games were games I had to be in the box.
Andy (Philly)
Brodney, what type of workouts do you do in the offseason? Do you always lift heavy or change it up?
Brodney Pool (3:11 PM)
People have no idea what goes into being a football player. It's year round. You never have time off. I've had some grueling summers. I threw up at least once a week.
Tony (Danbury, CT)
What player in college do you remember hitting the hardest???
Brodney Pool (3:11 PM)
I think the Oregon game I knocked their fullback out. And I knocked myself out doing it!
Josh (PERRY,OK)
Do you feel that playing at OU has Prepared you mentally and physically enough to make a smooth transition into the NFL and be an impact player right away?
Brodney Pool (3:12 PM)
Of course. When I talk to teams, they are impressed with how much football I know already. OU really helped me out.
Ben (Milwaukee, WI)
What kind of defensive scheme do you feel best fits your style of play? Also, what would you say to scouts (and fans) who first saw you and your team play in the National Championship in January?
Brodney Pool (3:13 PM)
Not really. I'm the type of guy who can play anything.
James (Eau Claire, WI)
Hey Brodney think you would be interested in playing for packers, we could sure use you
Brodney Pool (3:13 PM)
Of course! Green Bay is nationwide! They have fans in Arizona! People in Arizona were telling me I need to be a cheesehead! That would be great.
Don Monroe,La
Brodney, Have you heard anything from the New Orlean's Saints? Good luck to you in the up coming draft.
Brodney Pool (3:14 PM)
I had dinner with them before my Pro Day. I like those guys. Their D coordinator is a good guy. It was fun to talk football with them.
Hinton (NYC)
What did you like about your visit to Dallas?
Brodney Pool (3:14 PM)
Oh, man. It was awesome. Coach Parcells is a great guy. I got a chance to meet Jerry Jones as well. It's such a great tradition. I got to see Roy again as well. It was awesome.
Rudy (Ottawa, ON Canada)
What does a typical visit include ?(meal with the head coach, video sessions?)
Brodney Pool (3:15 PM)
You get there and go talk to the position coach who takes you around. You meet with the head coach, scouts, GM. After that, they get your weight again. Then you do a mini-physical. Then you go home and go to the next one!
Jon (Mobile)
Do you think you could take USC in a rematch?
Brodney Pool (3:16 PM)
I think we could! If we played again it would be a lot closer.
Stowey (Va Beach)
If you were to play another sport outside of football, basketball, or baseball, what sport could you play well in?
Brodney Pool (3:17 PM)
If I had a chance to choose another sport to be good in it would be golf! I was watching ESPN today and I saw some golfer with a cigar in his mouth! That's a nice sport!
Matt (Kansas)
I heard that when the Sooners got back to Norman from the Orange Bowl, there were no fans there to greet the team. Is that true? And if it is, that is terrible! I guarantee if I lived closer to Norman, I would have been there!
Brodney Pool (3:18 PM)
That's not true. I flew into Houston after the game though so I'm not sure. But I'm sure we had fans there. We have great fans.
Joe (San Antonio, Texas)
Do you think if Dallas picked you, it would be an easier transition to the NFL since you got Roy back there with you?
Brodney Pool (3:18 PM)
Probably a little easier. That would be fun but it will be hard no matter where I go. It would be close to home so that would help.
Josh (Lakeland fl.)
Have you met with Nick Saben???
Brodney Pool (3:19 PM)
Yeah, it was funny. It was my second time meeting him. He came to my house in high school to recruit me. He's a great def. back coach and he really knows what he's doing.
Chris (Cleveland)
Not sure how much you saw of the 2 Auburn back, Brown and Williams, but I know you saw plenty of Cedric Benson. Who do you think is the best of those three RBs?
Brodney Pool (3:20 PM)
I can't get into that. I just don't know. They are all good players. I worked out with Ronnie and Cadillac. All three of them are great guys to be around. But I don't know how I would rate them.
Jon (Mobile)
Your favorite game has been:
Brodney Pool (3:21 PM)
The OU-Texas Red River Shootout! Just the way the fans get into it. You have to win that game. We have a lot of players from Texas and it's a big game for us.
Matt (St. Paul, Minnesota )
Hey Brodney, are you a free safety or a strong safety?
Brodney Pool (3:21 PM)
Both positions are interchangeable. I can do both depending on the formation. If I had a tag, I'd like to be a DB! I can play a little CB!
Chris (Tulsa, OK)
Do you predict a Heisman (or two) for Adrian Peterson over the next 2 years. How good can that guy be in the pros?
Brodney Pool (3:22 PM)
I hope he can do that. He is awesome. It's incredible what he did his freshman year. That transition from high school to college is hard. He probably will win a Heisman (or two).
Rick (Rochester, MN)
Brodney, Do you like to play on special teams? Love to see you in purple.
Brodney Pool (3:22 PM)
If we have to, yes. You get used to it. I love doing it now.
Jon (Mobile)
You're not just saying that because you've been whuppin' them recently, have you?
Brodney Pool (3:23 PM)
(Laughing) No, that's not why.
Josh (Lakeland fl.)
Where are you projected to go to and in what round???
Brodney Pool (3:23 PM)
You never know. You can't read the internet or listen to outside sources. They don't really know. It's all a game.
Ben (Milwaukee, WI)
What do you think you'll have to work on most at the NFL level?
Brodney Pool (3:24 PM)
Probably just getting used to having more time on my hands and figuring out how to use it.
Tom , Cincinnati
You seem like a marvin lewis kinda guy. Sounds like you have all of the marvin-tangibles. How would you about feel playing for a guy like that?
Brodney Pool (3:25 PM)
That guy is awesome. I'm a quiet guy and I don't talk a lot. I'm very laid back and like to just take things in. That would be great.
Mike (Florida)
Brodney...You hear anything from the Jets? Good luck in the League.
Brodney Pool (3:26 PM)
I visited them. As soon as I got off the plane people were talking to me about the team. It was crazy. It was really nice to meet with them.
Tim (Gainesville, FL)
As a Gator fan I was praying that Stoops would take over for Spurrier but you guys got him instead. What makes him such an effective coach?
Brodney Pool (3:27 PM)
He's family oriented and thats how he wants OU to be. That is what kept us together. Not only were we great players, but we loved each other and wanted to play hard for each other.
Brook (Manayunk)
Brodney...I'm a cute little blonde, do you have a girlfriend??
Brodney Pool (3:27 PM)
Yeah, I have a girlfriend.
Byron (Detroit)
What have your 40 times been and what do you think are your 3 best assets at your position?
Brodney Pool (3:28 PM)
It's crazy. I heard 4.52, I read 4.45, etc. That's crazy. I feel like I ran a 4.4.
Jon (Mobile)
Who are you looking forward to play against? Anyone you just want to pound?
Brodney Pool (3:28 PM)
I don't have anything against anybody!
Vu ( Chicago )
How much easier is it to play behind a great front 7? Who do you think has the premiere front 7 in the league?
Brodney Pool (3:29 PM)
I can't tell! It certainly is easier to have that great 7 up front. I know Carolina had a great front seven. That's all the coaches would talk about when I was there.
Paul (Nashville, TN)
It seems that all of the big time safeties drafted in recent years have all been big successes (Reed, Williams, Taylor). Do you put yourself in the same categories as those guys as the elite safety of this year's draft?
Brodney Pool (3:30 PM)
Right now, I don't. I haven't proven myself yet. I have to do that before I can put myself in their category. I have to do what I do first.
Ric ( Charlotte )
Brodney, wouldn't you love to play for the Panthers and add to their stellar defense? Did Coach Fox make any promises to you?
Brodney Pool (3:31 PM)
No promises. The last thing the coaches want to do! But it was great meeting with him. He's a funny guy.
Jon (Reading, PA)
Brodney, Have the Eagles shown any interest in you since B-Dawkins will be gone in 2 years?
Brodney Pool (3:31 PM)
Once again, you never know. Just because they haven't expressed interest doesn't mean they aren't interested.
Jon (Mobile)
You think Jason White has potential?
Brodney Pool (3:32 PM)
I know he does. He's an awesome QB and fun to play with. He is so smart and really knows how to go through his reads.
Virgil (Philadelphia)
Brodney, It's been said you are a bit weak against the run...does that worry you in the NFL? Also, who was your favorite NFL team as a kid?
Brodney Pool (3:33 PM)
I don't buy that. Two of my best games were when I was in the box and had a bunch of tackles. My favorite NFL teams were Houston Oilers and Chicago Bears!
Reggie (Miami)
I am a big football fan, but I have to admit I have never really understood what makes a great safety. So what is it that makes a premier NFL safety?
Brodney Pool (3:33 PM)
Being smart. Over anything, you have to be smart and always know where to be on the field. You always have to be in position and then let your ability take over.
Jon (Mobile)
Better overtime: College or NFL?
Brodney Pool (3:34 PM)
I think I like the college OT. Both teams get a shot.
Rod (Va Beach)
It's my understanding that you are a sports fan, not just a football fan. What do you think about the steroid issue in the MLB and it's effects on the NFL?
Brodney Pool (3:34 PM)
I don't think it is a problem in the NFL at all. I just don't believe many NFL players use steroids. I would hope not.
James (Marked Tree AR)
How prepared are you for the next level?
Brodney Pool (3:35 PM)
There is still work to be done. I just have to keep learning, learn the system, etc.
sean (philadelphia)
are you anticipating struggling making the transition from college to the NFL, as in most cases with a safety it takes them a few years to start making a differance on a teams defense?
Brodney Pool (3:36 PM)
Yeah, I anticipate it will be tough. But I know wherever I go I plan to start and help the defense. I won't back down from a challenge. I'm ready to be an impact player.
Jon (Chicago)
Do you think that Aaron Rodgers will go first in the draft?
Brodney Pool (3:37 PM)
You never know. The 49ers might trade down.
Alex (Wilmington, DE)
What are your plans for Draft Day. Are you going to stay at home or make the trip to New York?
Brodney Pool (3:37 PM)
I'm going to be at home in Houston. I'll probably be playing PlayStation and let my mom answer the phone.
Jon (Mobile)
The kicker: Teammate or fair-weather friend?
Brodney Pool (3:38 PM)
(Laughing) At Oklahoma, if you ever hang around those guys, they were great guys. Fun to be around. They are in such high pressure situations. I consider them a teammate.
Drew (the hood)
Brodney...would you prefer to play in a 4-3 scheme or a 3-4 scheme in the NFL? Which do you feel suits your talents more? GO DOLPHINS!!
Brodney Pool (3:38 PM)
It doesn't matter to me.
John (L.A.)
How good really is Reggie Bush? Is he worthy of a top pick in next year's draft?
Brodney Pool (3:39 PM)
Of course. He is awesome. Fast, plays with passion, can catch, etc. He's fun to watch.
Alex (Wilmington, DE)
Madden or College Football for PS2?
Brodney Pool (3:40 PM)
I like Madden. It's more realistic. The college game was good but you can find things wrong with it. I'm pretty excited about having my name on Madden. I hope they have a good rating for me!
Mike (Florida)
Brodney...which do you prefer...interception, or bone crunching hit on a ball carrier for a fumble?
Brodney Pool (3:40 PM)
INT! You aren't sure if you get the fumble or not but an interception is for sure.
bob (nyc)
Do you play madden or college football online? I'd love to give you a lesson some time!
Brodney Pool (3:41 PM)
(Laughing) You might could beat me right now. I play online sometimes.
Jon (Mobile)
Wait, you live in Houston? Isn't it awkward to come home after the Red River Shootout?
Brodney Pool (3:41 PM)
(Laughing) Not really.
Bill (Dallas)
Speaking of Madden...what should your position be (FS or SS), and what would you like to realistically see your rating be?
Brodney Pool (3:42 PM)
I'd say free safetyprobably. I want at least an 82 or 80 rating. I want my speed to be 90 and my jumping a 98!
Chase (Neenah, WI)
Hey Brodney, huge Sooner fan here. What do you feel is the one thing you will miss most about playing football at the collegiate level?
Brodney Pool (3:43 PM)
Being around my teammates. I love those guys. I'll miss that. Saturday's were fun but I'm sure Sunday's will be fun as well.
Matt (St. Paul, Minnesota )
Do you take football as your job or as a game?
Brodney Pool (3:43 PM)
It's a game. You get paid to do something you love. The guys who excel the most can seperate the job from the game.
Mike (Florida)
Brodney...are you ready to handle NYC if my Jets draft you at 26?
Brodney Pool (3:44 PM)
I think I can handle NY. I wouldn't go out that much. Football would just be my life, like it is right now.
J-Love (Broken Arrow, OK)
Which Sooner is going first in the draft? (You can't say yourself)
Brodney Pool (3:45 PM)
I have no idea! Mark Clayton? I'm not sure. It's a toss up. Mark, Jammal and I all have the same agent so we joke about it.
bob (nyc)
Was Sam Mills part of your meeting w/ the Panthers? Just got word he passed away today.
Brodney Pool (3:45 PM)
I didn't get to meet him.
Chris (Cerritos)
What's the hardest part of college football?
Brodney Pool (3:47 PM)
Time management! For real. You have to learn how to go to class, study hall, practice, etc. I'm just so happy I'm going to the NFL! Thanks for the questions! We'll have to do this again sometime.
