Chat with Heather Scaglione and Kristin Vesely
![]() |
Thursday at 1 p.m. ET, Oklahoma stars Heather Scaglione, right, and Kristin Vesely will drop by to chat. Hoping to lead the Sooners the short distance from Norman to neighboring Oklahoma City on the long journey to a championship, Scaglione and Vesely are both finalists for USA Softball National Player of the Year honors. A repeat winner as Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year, Scaglione is a whiz behind the plate who also carries a big stick at the plate. Also helping set the pace of the Sooners offense is Vesely, an outfielder who led the Big 12 with a .457 average. They'll lead Oklahoma against Arizona (Friday, 7:30 ET, ESPN2 and Saturday, 5:00 ET, ESPN) in the super regionals.
The OU stars will be stopping by at 1 p.m. ET on Thursday, so send your questions now or just join is then!

Welcome to The Show! Oklahoma's two USA Softball Player of the Year semifinalists will be here at 1 ET to answer all of your questions. Send 'em in now, join Heather and Kristin later for all the answers.
C Heather Scaglione (1:05 PM)
Hi, we're here in Tuscon, Arizona -- ready for your questions!
Tiffany (LA)
Hey girls, good luck in the series. How does traveling to Arizona change things? What's going in to Hillenbrand like? Any other away stadium?
OF Kristin Vesely (1:06 PM)
It's like any other competion, we're going to use their dirt to our advantage ... it helps that we've been here before last year.
C Heather Scaglione (1:07 PM)
They always pack a really large crowd here, which is always fun. Lots of fans from California for us, which is nice to have them come out and watch.
Michael (Philadelphia, PA)
I have followed and cheered for Oklahoma Softball now for four years watching you girls come so close. What distinguishing features do you feel this team has, which will carry you over the hump to win the title in the last year of Scags and Keiter??
OF Kristin Vesely (1:08 PM)
Our offense is more powerful this year than it has been any other year. We are putting runs on the board!
OF Kristin Vesely (1:08 PM)
We also have a lot more veteran senior leadership this year.
Carol (San Fran)
Hey Kristin, you're from Arizona ... did you consider attending UA. Does the rivalry have even more meaning for you?
OF Kristin Vesely (1:09 PM)
I looked into UA for soccer, but never for softball. The rivalry has just as much value to me as it does for everybody else on the team.
John Lowrimore Muskogee, OK
To: Heather Scaglione and Kristin Vesely. What do you all think will be your advantage going in the Arizona series?
C Heather Scaglione (1:12 PM)
The fact that we've already played here really helps. We don't have to worry about learning how to use their field or getting caught up in everything. When we first played them, our young freshmen were a little starstruck, i think, but now that we've already been through all that, I think that will be to our advantage this time around.
Matty Montgomery, Purcell, Okla.
Ladies how exciting would it be for you if you are able to return to Oklahoma City and win the WCWS in front of your home crowd for your final game?
C Heather Scaglione (1:13 PM)
Yeah, we definitely have out eyes on that! That would just be so exciting to do it here. Especially us seniors, we are not ready to be done in Tuscon, we want to finish things off in Oklahoma City ... and go out on our own terms!
Doug (San Diego)
Heather, rumor has it your pregame ritual is to listen to music -- what do you listen to?
C Heather Scaglione (1:15 PM)
A lot of alternative rock ... I've got some classic rock, too. Jay-Z, AC/DC, Metalica, Switchfoot ... just to name a few.
OF Kristin Vesely (1:15 PM)
Mine's more rock... .Heat of Champions, Get On My Level, No Problem.
Pam (Dallas)
You guys are heading into a best of three series -- think it will be a three game dogfight ... or can you sweep 'em in two?? Boomer Sooner!!!
C Heather Scaglione (1:17 PM)
Gosh, honestly, I don't know what to expect. I'm guessing it will be a three game dogfight, although I know both teams are shooting for the two. I think it really all depends on how you see both teams come out on the first day.
OF Kristin Vesely (1:17 PM)
I'd say -- we're going to sweep them in two! Boomer Sooner!
Marc/Norman/Okla.
Can the Sooners generate some hitting against Alicia Hollowell of AU and possibly in a later matchup against Cat Ostermann of UT?
OF Kristin Vesely (1:19 PM)
I definitley think we can come up hitting against Hollowell. I mean, we've done it before, I think this time it's just consistently hitting with runners in scoring position. We can do it against Hollowell ... we proved that earlier in the year.
Heather Maxwell, Norman, Ok.
Ves, what makes the 1-2 punch of you and Norrelle Dickson so good. It seems like everytime you two lead off, it leads to something good.
OF Kristin Vesely (1:21 PM)
There's no secret, we just try to set the tempo early. When we have gotten runners on, our 3-4-5 seems to hit us in. Our success rate is so much higher when we score in the fist inning.
Rachael
Heather, after watching your pregame warmup, it seems like you and Kami have an interesting ritual in the bullpen. What are some of the things that you two do to get ready for the game?
C Heather Scaglione (1:22 PM)
Well, we share an orange. We stretch together (laughing) ... well, we just do a lot of goofy things together that people don't see.
The McNasties
Hey guys...we wanted to come to Tucson, but school kinda got in the way of that. But we would be there if we could! Scags: we've wanted to ask you this forever but what's up with the snapping? (We definitely do it all the time =D)
C Heather Scaglione (1:24 PM)
I don't know, it's part nervous habit and partly to make sure I have grip on my fingers for when I go to throw. I think I do it more as it gets hotter and sweaty. Just a habit. .... AND, don't let school get in the way!
Bassity (Chickasha, OK)
Kristin- I know these seniors have been a very special group over the four years. What will you remember most about them?
OF Kristin Vesely (1:25 PM)
I'd say their talent. Their four of them have put up incredible statistics and that leadership has really been able to direct this team.
Johnson Family -Lakewood, CA
Heather, Kristin and all the OU Team,Here you go again, just like last year! Best of luck to you, this team has what it takes to win this regional again, 1 pitch, 1 hit, 1 run at a time, whatever it takes, keep it going and play your game, we believe in you! GO SOONERS!
C Heather Scaglione (1:26 PM)
Thanks BB!
merced, california
Kristin,I just wanted to wish you good luck this weekend and hope you take care of the cats in two games and sweep though the series in OKC. you're undoubtedly the best outfielder in the nation and one of the biggest threats at the plate. I cant wait to see you guys celebrate on ESPN. Any added pressure being on TV?
OF Kristin Vesely (1:27 PM)
Thank you. I'd say there is no added pressure, but it's great to know that our fans can watch us no matter where they are. If anything it adds more incentive to do well!
Jeremiah, Edmond, OK
What is the confidence of the team and how do you two expect the team to do this weekend?
C Heather Scaglione (1:29 PM)
We all feel pretty confident about this series. Our coaches have prepared us very well and we're not going to try to go above and beyond anything we usually do. WE're just going to play our game and hope it works out for us.
Haddon Heights, NJ
OU has got it all goin'n on!!! You guys are great...good luck with the games this weekend...I can't wait to watch you play-all of you-especially my niece, Christina...give it your all! (Aunt) Toni from New Jersey.
OF Kristin Vesely (1:31 PM)
I'll tell Tina! Thank you for the luck ... we're going to go out and play the best we can.
C Heather Scaglione (1:31 PM)
Thanks to everyone who logged on ... we've very excited to be playing on ESPN so all of you fans and family can check us out. WE'll make y'all proud!
The ShowGirl (1:32 PM)
