Chat: Futaba Freedom 100 Winner
![]() |
You can catch the Freedom 100 on ESPN2 from 2-4 p.m. ET on Friday. The field includes Al Unser and Marco Andretti.
The race winner will stop by to chat approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the race.
Buzzmaster (2:57 PM)
Jaime Camara has won the Futaba Freedom 100, not letting the damp track keep him from Victory Lane.
He took a green-checkered victory after a late spin in the back of the field brought out the yellow.
The 24-year-old from Brazil has a background in South American Formula 3. Today, he held off Wade Cunningham and Al Unser to win before a large Indy Carb Day crowd.
Because the race is aired slightly tape-delayed on ESPN2, we won't have Jaime in chat until about 4 p.m. ET.
Feel free to send questions for Jaime now.
Buzzmaster (4:08 PM)
We've got Jaime here now, so let's get rolling!
Alex, St. Louis
Jaime, did you ever think your first Pro Series win would be at Indianapolis? Nice job, hope to see you in IndyCars soon.
Jaime (4:09 PM)
I thought my first Pro Series win would be later on in the season, not now, because I'm gainin experience. We started really good here, in practice we were the fastest, we knew we had a good car ... when we won the pole yesterday, we started thinking about winning the race. Second wasn't good enough then after all the practice sessions.
Jon, Indianapolis
How do you rate MIPS to South American F3? Is the level of competition higher or lower?
Jaime (4:12 PM)
It's much higher here, the difference between the first and fifth car is less than a second. Formula 3, the series is not really good right now, so last year we didn't have a competitive series. We had the good guys and the others were really bad. Here it's much better than that, every driver has won races before and they are fast on the track.
Steve, Miami
How much inspiration is Sam Schmidt for you, given all he's been through? Congrats on the win, glad for the whole team.
Jaime (4:14 PM)
Sam Schmidt is like I think for everybody the guy that everybody watches, he has such a good will, he goes to every race. He is there telling us what to do and what not to do, that is very good bec. he passes experience to drivers. In his condition, I admire him for that. If I was in his condition, I might not do that because it's a lot of trouble to get in the plane and go to 14 races on the season.
Rob, Milwaukee
Was the track very wet, enough to make you all nervous out there? Did you think it should have stayed yellow or go green-checkered like it did?
Jaime (4:16 PM)
The rain was mild, it didn't make a difference for us. About the final lap, I think the officials know what they are doing, it doesn't make any difference for me if it was yellow or green.
Shane, Indianapolis
Looked like you had best car with pole win and strong all race, but did Wade worry you at all? He's points leader and it looked like he might make a run on that final lap ... what went through your mind then?
Jaime (4:19 PM)
I was very worried about Wade because he had a good car too. I knew I had a better car than him, but he is a very fast driver. I was planning what to do to avoid him passing me on the last lap, I made a plan in my mind and it worked, he didn't pass me.
Stacy, Chicago
So when are you going to be in an IndyCar? Great job today.
Jaime (4:21 PM)
After the 2005 season, if everything goes right, maybe in 06 I will go into the IndyCar Series. I'm focused right now on the Infiniti Pro Series, I need to have a very good season in 2005, and maybe we start talking for 2006.Thanks for the questions. It was nice to be here.
