Robinson leads the ACC in batting with a .443 average and was the sparkplug of the Seminole offense nabbing 43 stolen bases. He leads FSU in nine major offensive categories including batting average, slugging percentage, runs scored, hits, doubles and steals. Robinson is the first FSU player ever to record 100 hits and 40 steals in a season.
The Seminoles face Florida in Super Reginal action beginning Friday night, but Shane will be with us at 12:30 Friday afternoon to take your questions.
Catch FSU in action against Florida in the NCAA Super Regional on Friday night (7 ET, ESPN)
Thanks for coming and let's get going! Shane, Other than you, who else should I be worried about in your lineup? Best of Luck this weekend. Probably our top four: Chapman Malone, Cheesman, and myself. Those guys have been doing the job all year and the Gators will have to watch out for them. What are your preparations before every game do you a certain routine? I don't really have too many superstitions to get mentally prepared. I understand how guys are going to pitch with scouting reports, so I just think about playing hard and never taking a play off. How do you think the game tonight will compare to the UF vs FSU rivalry in other sports? There's always a little something extra when we play each other and it puts a little more emphasis on the game. Not only is this a Super Regional but it's a big rivalry and that definitley plays into things. Shane, what is the difference in your play from last year to this year? Your numbers are way up. Was it a change in your swing or what? Keep it up Shane-O. FSU c/o 2002. I would have to say understanding what the coaches wanted and needed out of me as a leadoff hitter. The mentality of understanding my role and being able to apply it is something I did a good job improving from last season to this season. Firstly, Congrats on a great season. What will be the key to getting past the Gators this weekend? Will it be Jerrigan and Thomas at the bottom of the lineup setting the table for the top of of the order? Best of luck bringing Coach Martin his 1st National Title and GO Noles. I think the big key is probably playing error-free baseball and not giving them any extra outs. That's when they tend to score on us and get ahead, so we have to score first and the guys at the bottom do a good job of coming in and getting clutch hits, so that will be big, too. Shane, was there any particular team that you were a fan of growing up? (college and pro) My father is from New York so I followed the Yankees, and being from Tampa I went to a lot of spring training games, so I'll have to go with the Yanks. Hey Shane, Do you think it helps or hurts you guys having not seen the florida weekend starters yet this year? We'll be watching here in Colorado. Give me 3 SBs tonight and I'll see you in Omaha! GO NOLES! It's really not much of a disadvantage because we have film on those guys and we build scouting reports. We know their tendencies and we're prepared for what they might do in particular situations. Does it bother you that nobody cares about college baseball; relative to football and basketball? It kind of stinks that we don't get as much national recognition, but college baseball is starting to turn the corner and it seems like each year we have more games on ESPN and other national venues, so that shuold be a big help for more recognition. Who would you say was the toughest pitcher you hit off this season? GO GATORS! Tough one. Not too many guys were overpowering, but the toughes guy was probably Cesar Carillo, who had all his pitches working and mixed it up down in Miami when we played them. You guys seem to have a blast in the dugout and messing around on the field. Tell me about the chemistry that this team has and how close you guys are. This is the closest bunch I have seen in my 8 years of watching FSU baseball!! Our guys understand their roles, and the guys who are backups take their role seriously. Our chemistry is so good because we care so much about each other and never get down on each other. We know what it takes to win and find ways to come back because we have guys on the team who care about one another. Shane, It looks like it is going to rain tonight. Will this cause you to change your gameplan on the basepaths if the field is tougher to run on? Not really. The only thing I might change is going from rubber skpikes to meatal if the ground is going to be a little lose. But that doesn't make much difference in what I want to do. What are your thoughts on staying your full four years? With your young talent..you guys could really do some damage in the years to come! Good luck this weekend! GO NOLES! I really haven't given it too much though yet. Scouts can't really talk to me right now because I'm a sophomore and a lot will depend on what happens for me and the team next season. I won't know too much until the middle or end of next season. Do the fans and other team cheering interfere with your concentration at all? Do you hear when the crowd is cheering/chanting, or do you mostly block it out? By the way...the Gators have no chance! Best of luck tonight!!! You block it out to a certain extent, but in a case like this it can get me fired up and ready to go, and when the home crowd is cheering it makes me feel pretty good. But in the middle of a play or an at-bat you don't really hear any of that. are you dating anyone? I have a girlfriend of two years, so I'm taken. Sorry. Shane... What an awesome season, congratulations! How has this season played out the way you thought it would? Did you ever think you would be a national player of the year? I always set high goals for myself at the beginning of the year, and this year I gave the coaches a list of things I wanted to accomplish and they thought the numbers were high, but you can never be satisfied and have to have the mentality that nothing can prevent you from getting there. Shane, Whats your Reasoning behing wearing rubber spikes, are they faster? The rubber spikes are lighter and easier on your feet. When I play with metals my legs get a lot more tired and when I switched to rubber halfway through the season it helped my legs and feet. I usually wear metal when we play in rain or the traction isn't too good. Shane, I have following your team all season and I wanted to congradulate you on a huge season. My question is how did your summer playing help in your breakout year 2nd for FSU. Jim Facing the nation's best pitchers with wood bats can only boost your confidence. Coming in after hitting well in the Cape against those guys makes for an advantage when you see the same guys with metal bats during the college season. Shane, my son is a huge baseball fan and is a undersized for his age. What tips can you give a 13 yr. old seminole fan who hopes to play for FSU some day. As a former seminole hope to see you at the greatest show on dirt. Go Noles!!!!! Never let anyone tell you you can't do it. Always play with your heart and give 100 percent. When you play hard people will notice. If you give it all you can on every play people will pay attention. I've been undersized my whole life and that has helped me as much as anything. Along the same lines, what are your plans for this summer. I would assume that Team USA is in your future? I have tryouts with Team USA on the 26th of this month and if I make it through I'll play with them, but if not I'll be back in the Cape. Thanks for following along thoughout the season and thanks for the questions today. I'm off to get ready for the game! Shane Robinson
