Chat with Chad Greenway

The Hawkeyes are coming off an eight-game winning streak to end last season and have high expectations for 2005. Greenway, who chose to forego the NFL where he was projected to be a Top 10 pick, is back as a senior, sending chills down the spines of opposing offenses.

Chad Greenway (2:59 PM)
Hi to all Hawkeye fans out there. It's going to be an exciting year, so let's get rolling!
Ben, Denver CO
Hey Chad, Can you tell us what factored into your decision to come back to play your senion year?
Chad Greenway (3:00 PM)
I felt I had a lot of things to impprove, and I have too many friends I couldn't leve behind and I have some unfinished business to take care of on the field, too.
Steve (Scotch Plains, NJ)
Chad, which opposing Big Ten team has the most potent offense this season?
Chad Greenway (3:01 PM)
Michigan has a lot of talent coming back, Purdue is underrated, and Ohio STate always has a lot of talent on that side of the ball. All three are going to be solid and a tough challenge.
Brodie (Davenport, Iowa)
Chad, how will a brand new defensive line change the way that you, Abdul and Edmund play?
Chad Greenway (3:03 PM)
A lot of people ask that, but our line hasn't dropped a lot in talent level. They lack experience, but they're working hard and we won't have to change a lot. Those guys know what they're doing up front and it won't make my job much harder to have those new guys up there. Our staff has done a great job with that group.
Tom (West Palm Beach, FL)
Chad... Can you describe what it is like to run in to Kinnick Stadium on a big game Saturday? Is it still a thrill after 4 years?
Chad Greenway (3:04 PM)
Kinnick is a place that doesn't get as much attention, but in my opinion it's one of the loudest in the nation and the more we win the better it gets. After four years its just as exciting to come out of that tunnel.
Mulva (Ann Arbor, MI)
Chad, What single game has been the highlight of your college career?
Chad Greenway (3:06 PM)
I look at the Ohio State game from last year as a big one for the program and university. And the capital One Bowl with the last-second win over LSU was awesome. And it wasn't a real highlight, but the Orange Bowl we lost to USC was a great learning experience for us and something that helped us get where we are today.

Chase(Cedar Rapids, IA)
What was going threw your head at the end of the game against LSU last year? Good luck this year....GO HAWKS!!!!
Chad Greenway (3:07 PM)
As a defense we were a little disappointed to let them score in the final minute, but seeing that ball in the air and seeing Holloway run in was a feeling I will never forget. It was joy for the stuff we overcame and what it meant for the program.
Brett (Peoria, Illinois)
Chad--I know that the visiting locker room at Kinnick is pink. Do any other Big Ten stadiums have anything similiar to this? Also, what is the toughest place you've played at. Thanks and GO HAWKS!!!
Chad Greenway (3:09 PM)
No other lockerroom is pink or anything like that. Kinnick is unique in that. The Horseshoe at OSU is probably the most intimidating place I've been in. So loud.
Nathan (Miller, SD)
Hey Chad, I remember playing against you in Baseball in Legion for the Miller/Wessington team, and also know you were an all around great athlete, do you ever play any other sports anymore?
Chad Greenway (3:10 PM)
I'm on the golf course right now, Nathan. I played four sports in high school and I love baseball and basketball still. I still have a couple state records in track so I keep up with that, but right now it's just golf and football for me as far as playing.
Rod Schuler MPLS
What sort of workouts do you guys go through during the summers to prepare for the upcoming season?
Chad Greenway (3:11 PM)
We;re doing nine workouts every five days, a lot of conditioning to get the stamina up and get ready for fall camp. And of course a lot of weights.
Tom (West Palm Beach, FL)
The manner in which you and Abdul work as a team is great to watch. If I'm not mistaken, you finished with 113 tackles last year and Abdul, 116. Any friendly compitition as to who will take the crown this year?
Chad Greenway (3:13 PM)
Abdul and I compete in everything we do on and off the field. We go head-to-head in the classroom and the weight room. He has the overall lead by about 10 tackles over the last three years, so I have to step up the pace this year and finish on top when we leave Iowa!
Phil Iowa City
Why does the Purdue game scare me more than the Ohio St game this year?? Whats your thoughts??
Chad Greenway (3:17 PM)
Good point, Phil. Purdue is a very underrated team this year. They bring back all 11 starters on defense and their offense is going to be very underrated with that spread attack. West Lafayette is always a tough place to play, too.
Chad Greenway (3:19 PM)
Okay guys, I have to run but it's been fun. Thanks to all the Hawkeye fans out there for cheering so hard. It means a lot to all of us!
