Buzzmaster (5:58 PM)
Join our NBA gang on Sunday night when we'll be chatting during the all-star game! It all starts at 8 p.m. ET!
Buzzmaster (8:08 PM)
We're going to have John Hollinger, J.A. Adande, Scoop Jackson and Chris Broussard all chatting during a quarter tonight. Our chat gets started when John Hollinger takes the first quarter! We're counting down until the game starts!
John Hollinger (8:41 PM)
What's up everyone? One thing I'll say for Shaq's All-Star selection -- I don't think Al Jefferson or Paul Millsap would wear a Phantom of the Opera mask and dance with JabbaWockeez.
James (Las Vegas)
John, do you think Stoudemire is focused on the game, or more on his status as a Phoenix Sun?
John Hollinger (8:42 PM)
It's an All-Star Game. How much focus do you really need? But it was interesting to me that he got all cheers and no boos during intros from the home crowd.
John Hollinger (8:42 PM)
By the way, I spent pre-game trying to see who was the most obscure former player I could spot. I had thought Frank Brickowski would take the cake ... until I saw Tim Kempton ambling through the crowd. Don't think I'm topping that one.
James (Las Vegas)
Who's your pick for MVP?
John Hollinger (8:43 PM)
Wade. This is his kind of game.
Rose (NOLA)
What about the news that Porter will get the axe? Any impact on whether Amare is getting traded or not with Gentry as the new coach?? Geaux West !
John Hollinger (8:45 PM)
I have to interrupt my answer to report that Spike Lee is wearing an Abe Lincoln stovepipe hat.
John Hollinger (8:47 PM)
As for Porter, In think the change will help since Gentry will be more like D'Antoni as a coach. Not sure what it means for Amer yet. There' s an emerging school of thought that he'll be kept until summer now, mostly because the Suns haven't been bowled over by offers. Problem with that is that you can't trade him for an expiring in the summer-- it has to be to a team that already has cap space or a big exception.
Brandon(Portland OR)
What's the likelyhood that the Blazers move LaFrentz, and his contract. Prichart seems pretty dedicated to the core of the team. Who would he be willing to part with, and what player is available that could make an impact on this team?
John Hollinger (8:49 PM)
I think he sense an opportunity to do something with so many teams looking to cut money. That said, I don't think LaFrentz will actually move unless he can get a star in return -- Amare, Caron Butler, somebody like that.
Alex [via mobile]
Any trades by the atl. hawks before the dead line?
John Hollinger (8:50 PM)
Saw Rick Sund yesterday at the D-League All-Star Game and was teasing him about which player he was bout to sign. Thought I think the answer is none of the above -- if Hawks do any tweaking at all, it will be really minor, veteran backup big man type stuff.
John Hollinger (8:51 PM)
Nice show so far, eh? BTW, you TV viewers can get a rare chance to see Adande and I in action if you look to the right of the East bench.
John Hollinger (8:52 PM)
Pierce, Granger and Allen are killing Dwight Howard over that try that went over the backboard.
Tyson(AZ) [via mobile]
I though terry porter did a good job so far. 6-10 all the way to allstar break but still it's his first yr.
John Hollinger (8:53 PM)
You might be the only person in Arizona who holds that opinion.
Ryan (Pullman, Wa)
Any big name that you think are still going to move before thursday?
John Hollinger (8:55 PM)
Yes. One thing the league impressed upon teams during the competition committee meetings was that the cap level in 2010 (and thus the luxury tax level) is likely to be far lower than it is right now. So teams are going to be looking to cut money, somewhat for next year and then in a big way for the year after. That's why you're hearing names like Caron Butler, Richard Jefferson and Tyson Chandler -- it's the best shot for those teams to avoid some very painful financial penalties.
Chris (via Cali)
What types of Moves are the Clipps going to make? Is there any truth to the B Davis for Kidd offer?
John Hollinger (8:56 PM)
BDavis for Kidd requires several million in added flotsam from the Clippers side I believe, which makes it tougher. Also, can't see the Mavs making that move when they can finally get some cap flexibility next year. If the Clips do anything most folks think it will involve Camby.
John Hollinger (8:57 PM)
Somebody forget to tell the East there's no D at this event.
JT (Boston)
There has been a lot of Vince Carter speculation. Do yo see anything materializing this week?
John Hollinger (8:59 PM)
I think the Nets are receptive to the idea but they want the same combo of ending contracts and young players that everyone is looking for. Can't really see a good partner for them all things considered.
Justin (Ohio)
In a dark suit sitting at a table?
John Hollinger (8:59 PM)
That's JA ... I'm next to him.
Otis Smith (From Help Me Land)
What should I do before Thursday?
John Hollinger (9:01 PM)
Same thing I've heard from every direction is that Magic will stand pat unless something unbelievable lands in their lap --- basically they want to convert Brian Cook's expiring deal into a useful player, and I don't see them pulling it off.
Jack (Ohio)
John, tell us honestly are the Cavs close to acquiring Amare Stoudemire?
John Hollinger (9:02 PM)
If Phoenix liked the Wally-Hickson combo they'd have already done it. Besides the Cavs need Wally to play right now until their other wings come back.
Jarrod (Chicago)
JH- Can you give us any predictions on how the Amare saga ends?
John Hollinger (9:03 PM)
Still think it's Chicago at the end of the day, but we could see a sleeper team emerge here. A lot of clubs have the assets but haven't been big players in the bidding so far -- any of them could decide to pile in at the last minute.
Drew (Boise)
Are the Kings close to doing anything before the deadline. Is there anything out there of value for them or will they get little/no value like for Bibby?
Jenny(Miami,Florida [via mobile]
Do you think jermaine o'neal will succeed in Miami besides the fact that he has bern injured for a while now?
John Hollinger (9:05 PM)
By "doing anything", I presume you mean with players and not with cities. I've heard they have interest in Amare but they're also not in a position to take on money -- so that makes it kind of difficult. They're trying to move Brad Miller but we haven't heard much noise on that front; Salmons can also be had for the right price.
John Hollinger (9:06 PM)
He won't be an All-Star -- that party's over. But better than Magloire and Anthony? I think he can pull that off, yes.
John Hollinger (9:06 PM)
Unusual seating chart tonight. I wonder what Eva Longoria and Cindy McCain talk about during the timeouts.
Jimmy new york [via mobile]
Do you think the lakers are the best team in the NBA right now?
John Hollinger (9:07 PM)
I think Boston is the best regular season team and Cleveland is the best postseason team; L.A. would be a close second on both fronts.
Brian(Cleveland, OH)
Is Mike Brown yelling at the East All Stars to rotate and block out on D? I am surprised he is not subbing because the players are not hustling on D. Don't the Suns have to move Amare? Keeping this team together(they can't move anyone but Leandro)would be saying they think they can win with these old guys
John Hollinger (9:08 PM)
I can verify that Brown is being considerably more laid back tonight. Actually the players are yelling stuff at the refs to get calls -- somebody just hollered "And 1" on a drive before a shot even went up.
Shaggy (Boulder, CO)
Why does no one talk about what a force Nene had become?
John Hollinger (9:09 PM)
I thought the whole debate over Carmelo not making it was misplaced because Nene was their second best player in teh first half of the season.
John Hollinger (9:09 PM)
Alright, gonna hand it off to Adande here. Thanks for joining me everyone ...
J.A. Adande (9:10 PM)
I just got the baton from Hollinger. I'm on a wireless card, so maybe mine will be faster. still kind of slow, though.
Zak (Tucson)
What is the top value you think the Suns could get for Amare? Any big names that would help? Or is it more likely they could only achieve a little cap space and young talent to go with it?
J.A. Adande (9:11 PM)
Word I got from a Suns source today is that an Amare trade is looking less likely. They heard all kinds of big names, but were under orders to get desirable expiring, contracts. Remember, none of this is about the team, it's about the accounting books.
TiTi (Philadelphia, PA)
How do they determine which city the all-star game will be held in? I am searching all over internet for it. I am going for East, obviously, and I'm a Celtics fan. Don't hold that against me, just help me please if anyone knows answer! Thanks...
J.A. Adande (9:14 PM)
It's Dallas for next year and David Stern said the league is" accepting applications" for seasons beyond that. I'd like to see Toronto get a crack. Even though it'll be cold in Feb., it's still a great city. Remember, its about hotel capacity, facilities (including convention center for Fan Jam)...ltos of factors. Plenty of towns could use the $ boost right now, though.
J.A. Adande (9:15 PM)
By the way, I gt an MVP vote for the game, and I'm willing to listen to suggestions. Even though I won't be chatting in the 4th quarter I can look in and read your picks, so send them in
Dustin dupape quinlan texas [via mobile]
with the trade that miami got will they have a better second half seson?
J.A. Adande (9:17 PM)
The big question is whether or not O'Neal's body will let him. Most folks around here that I talk to don't believe it will. His 20 and 10 days are behind him. But marion wasn't doing much on that squad, so this should be an improvement
Federico (DC)
Should the Wiz consider moving Tuff Juice or Antawn for expiring contracts + prospects?
J.A. Adande (9:20 PM)
Talked to a Wiz source yesterday and he said things are pretty quiet for them. They've been operating under the belief that if they could ever get the team on the floor they like what they have. But I dont' think it would ever be more than 2nd round. Besides, as they have Gil and Antawn trading for expiring contracts isn't going to give them much cap space
J.A. Adande (9:20 PM)
wait till u guys see TO in his Lakers t-shirt and red sunglasses (Cyclops from the Fantastic Four?) after the break
Jarrod (Chicago)
JA, Look into your crystal ball? Are Durant and Rose is the big boys game next year?
J.A. Adande (9:21 PM)
Durant yes, Errick Rose no. This weekend was a nice coming out party for KD
Harrison(eugene, OR)
what will the nba do without shaq to do stuff like the shaqowokky thing?
J.A. Adande (9:23 PM)
LeBron and Dwight Howard will try. They're not bad. But there's nobody like Shaq. Nobody.
Andrew Plano TX
Why doesn't the all star game do a 15 man roster instead of a 12 man roster? Since it's an all star game anyway.
J.A. Adande (9:24 PM)
That would keep more players and teams happy, but think about the plight of the coahces trying to get all of those guys some run within 48 minutes. It's tough enough as it is now.
Retro (Morgantown, WV)
I'm stuck doing homework in a library at school, can you give me a recap of highlights thus far?
J.A. Adande (9:26 PM)
the highlights so far: Shaq getting out and doing a breakdance/mime thing before the game, Dwight Howard dunking on Tim Duncan and Chris Paul getting a steal and feed o Kobe for a dunk as he flew by LeBron
Daniel (Boise, Idaho)
I know this is an allstar game, but peirce is looking pretty selfish out there. Based on his history this is his nature, do you think that will ever come back into play with boston?
J.A. Adande (9:29 PM)
If I were a Celtics fan I'd be happy that he's getting it out of his system today. Those guys all know what worked for them to win a championship last year. They won't stray from the formula when it matters.
J.A. Adande (9:31 PM)
The theory going around here is that the Suns had to do something because of their record, and Porter might be it for now. But going forward, they will be shedding salary. If not this week then over the summer.
Steiny (NYC)
Is Lewis still one of your favorite shooters in the NBA?
J.A. Adande (9:33 PM)
He never was one of my fave shooters, and Saturday night's performance did nothing to change that. A former player told me he thinks Lewis felt the pressure, got tight and held the ball before his release longer than normal.
korey (mi)
KG pushed Gasol in the back for an unnecessary all-star game foul! The Celtics-Lakers will always have bad blood!
J.A. Adande (9:34 PM)
Some things shouldn't go away even during an all-star game. Suns fans here booed Spurs Duncan and Parker in the intros. And Celtics and Lakers shouldn't get along on the court. Any court.
Zak (Tucson)
Does anyone know when the last time a coach 5 games over .500 at this point in the season was fired? Don't get me wrong, I am all for a coaching change, it just seems to be a strange situation.
J.A. Adande (9:36 PM)
Um, no stranger than a coach with multiple 60-win seasons going, which is what happened with the Suns at the end of last year. Don Nelson got fired from the Knicks with a winning record, although that was much earlier in the season. Rick Carlisle was let go by the Pistons after reaching the E. Conference finals.
J.A. Adande (9:37 PM)
Cool moment: KG, Pierce and Ray just gave a big birthday cake to Bill Russell, who turned 75 last week.
Joe(cleveland)
Hey J.A you said a source close to you said that phoenix wants exprings but you think the bulls have the best chance, when the cavs have wally/varejao/snow all expiring and hickson plus 1st round pick they could use?
J.A. Adande (9:38 PM)
It gets complicated. Suns don't want just expiring contracts, the want lower expiring contracts. Higher expiring contracts still mean more luxury tax dollars due at the end of this season.
Dan Portland, Oregon
Do you think Portland will make a splash at the deadline?
J.A. Adande (9:40 PM)
I don't know how splashy it will be, but I do think they'll move LaFraentz and get a better player in return.
Steiny (NYC)
Do you think Alvin Gentry will do a good job replacing Terry Porter in Phoenix?
Matt (Philadelphia, PA)
Does Allen Iverson look younger or older with the new haircut?
J.A. Adande (9:43 PM)
Younger, because it reminds me of when he was at Georgetown. Give or take 20 tattoos.
Bob (bobville)
How can you watch the NBA?
J.A. Adande (9:46 PM)
My usual method is on an HD broadcast. Today I'm lucky enough to be sitting courtside, by the East bench. But to answer what I'm sure you're really asking, I'd much rather watch the best players in the world than a bunch of bad shooters playing for control-obsessed coaches...otherwise known as college basketball.
J.A. Adande (9:47 PM)
Halftime here in Phoenix, and that concludes my portion of the chat. Thanks for your questions. Enjoy the rest of the game. And send in those MvP suggestions later on.
Buzzmaster (9:52 PM)
Thanks John! Thanks J.A.! What a good first half of basketball we've seen so far.
Buzzmaster (9:52 PM)
I'll be here until Scoop Jackson takes over at the start of the third quarter.
cball [via mobile]

We are awesome, aren't we?
buffalo, new york
I want the east to win
Tom (River North)
Steve Francis? Is he even in the NBA anymore?
Lance (New York, N.Y.)
Do you know what flavor is Bill Russell's birthday cake? I never thought a Celtic green cake would look so tantalizing.
Buzzmaster (9:55 PM)
Don't know. But he's lucky he's not sitting near me, or I'd take a handful of it right from under his nose.
Terence detroit mi [via mobile]
I love the game but I would like to see Shawn The Rain Man Kemp on TV please. I talk about him all the the at the shop he is still one of the best.09
South carolina [via mobile]
who is the best
Tom (River North)
Do these people chatting via mobile know what decade this is? Steve Francis? Shawn Kemp?
Buzzmaster (9:58 PM)
Didn't you get the memo? This is retro night. We're partying like it's 1995, baby!
Steve (Miami)
Hey its Obama!! I didn't know he like baseball, basketball, and football!!! I wonder what other sports he likes?
Buzzmaster (9:59 PM)
I hear he's a bocci ball fiend.
Simon (From Stow, Ohio)
Buzzmaster...... do you know if Cleveland acquired Amare from the Suns, or close to acquiring Amare?? Please tell me the truth. THANKS!! I'll ask Scoop Jackson to.
Buzzmaster (9:59 PM)
You might be better off asking Scoop.
JermaineTubbs(N.O.,La) [via mobile]
Can Chris Paul get MVP with just assist?
Buzzmaster (10:00 PM)
Sure, if he has 19 of them.

Brett (Cincinnati)
Buzzmaster did you hear also that Chris Paul is contemplating retiring ...
Buzzmaster (10:04 PM)
Kobe, LeBron, KG, Shaq and Wally Szerbiak too.
Alejandro Bakersfield California
You are all so beautiful
Buzzmaster (10:04 PM)
Are you peeking in my windows?
Ny [via mobile]
Racquetball is where it's at
Otis Smith (From Help Me Land)
How long have I been asleep?
Chris Paul
I have decided to get myself a triple double in assists, steals and boards. no points needed for me to get mvp.
Brennan (Philly)
Not Wally say it isn't so
Buzzmaster (10:05 PM)
That was all a joke.
Buzzmaster (10:05 PM)
Maybe.
Buzzmaster (10:05 PM)
So, what does everyone think of the game so far?
mark tx
that was the worst half time show ever
Buzzmaster (10:06 PM)
Sorry...Scoop will be here soon.
Matt (Wynnewood, PA)
This game is boring.
Buzzmaster (10:07 PM)
It's an all star game. It's all about show until the final 10 minutes or so. That's when everyone goes to work.
Kobe Bryant
Yeah April
bob
this game is AWSOME!!!!!!!!!!!!
Trent (Irving, Texas)
LeBron James is the best player in the NBA today.
Pat (Iowa)
You better watch yourself Buzzmaster Russell will swat that hand if he catches it near his cake!!
Buzzmaster (10:07 PM)
But I want some cake. It looked good too. Maybe it was chocolate?
Craig (Norwich, CT)
World B. Free! There, I just wanted to type his name, though I'm not sure why.
Buzzmaster (10:08 PM)
You know why....because it's only one of the coolest names ever.
Zak (Tucson)
Boring as it gets Buzz.
Stan Lee (NYC)
Hey Buzz, please tell J.A. that Cyclops is a member of the X-Men not the Fantastic Four.
Buzzmaster (10:08 PM)
Ya hear that J.A.?
Sawyer (Miami)
All of my friends hate on Dwyane Wade with a passion, but I'm a diehard fan. I don't think I can handle much more negativity toward my hero, so please back me up here!
Joe
the Celtics organization just seems like one big happy family...and bill russell is there grandpa
Craig (Norwich, CT)
Good point, Buzz
Monnet
This game is almost as boring as this chat.
Buzzmaster (10:10 PM)
But this chat is just a liiiiiiiiiiiittle bit better, right?
Raj, Grayslake [via mobile]
Hey John, what's the deal with Amare and where do you think he's gonna end
Buzzmaster (10:11 PM)
Dude, you missed John. He was here in the first quarter. But I'll give you my total guess.....I'll say Phoenix.
Dave Chappelle
The chat is great. Game..could be better. KOBEE!!
Steve (Philly)
I gotta agree with you Trent LeBron can just do it all.
Coach K
I wish I had some guys like Chris Paul to help me win a game against NC on my court!
Chris From Cali
Come on? This all star event needs to be at the STaples Center again!!
Buzzmaster (10:12 PM)
West Coast bias!
Monnet
Lemme take over as Buzzmaster.
Buzzmaster (10:12 PM)
Ummmmmmm, no.
Steve (Miami)
This game is going way to long for us on the east coast who need to work tomorrow. Why cant the game start earlier?
Monnet
Not really Buzz...you got to step your game up too.
Buzzmaster (10:12 PM)
That hurts...cuts right to the core.
benny conyers ga [via mobile]
Hey
Buzzmaster (10:13 PM)
Hey.
Ken (Warsaw)
Jeez will halftime EVER end?
Buzzmaster (10:13 PM)
8 ball says........Outlook doesn't look good.
Buzzmaster (10:14 PM)
I think the NBA is going to take a page out of the NASCAR book and just call the game early.
Christian (Charlottesville, VA)
Wow...the west is winning.
Amare Stoudmire
I think I will end up in Pheonix too Buzz
Doug (Indy)
Buzz, I bet you're right... You should get some more love from the big wigs in Bristol. You got some real insight.
Buzzmaster (10:14 PM)
I get mine. I get the biggest bag of pretzels from the vending machines.
Steve (Philly)
My prediction is Kobe finishes with 26 points. Kobe's the MVP and the West wins, you Buzz
Scotty g philly pennsylvania [via mobile]
Buzz i think baseball is still better then basketball what do you think?
Buzzmaster (10:16 PM)
Wow...dunno about that. Right now? It's hoops. All the baseball players are doing is re-learning how to bunt and field grounders from the pitcher's mound. Even though they'll forget how to do that by tomorrow.
Bill Russel (just turned 75) [via mobile]
Hey Buzz wanna a piece of my cake?
Buzzmaster (10:16 PM)
Yes! Bring it over Bill. You the man.
Scotty g philly pennsylvania [via mobile]
True but come on its baseball does anyone else agree with me that baseball is better?
Buzzmaster (10:18 PM)
Dude, you're in a chat room that's going on during the NBA All Star game. I don't think this is the right chat room for you to bring up that argument.
Buzzmaster (10:18 PM)
Oooooh, the coaches are back on the floor. Maybe we'll get started before my bedtime.
Bryan in Maine
do you think the celtics are deep enough to win it all again??
Pat (Iowa)
How does one become the Buzzmaster any special training or is it just something you're born with??
Buzzmaster (10:19 PM)
Yeah, you can't really learn it. It's a God-given skill. Kinda like being fast or having good hands. You just got it or you don't.
Scoop Jackson (10:19 PM)
What's good people? Thanks for letting me join in.
Ken Kusanagi [via mobile]
This game will probably go to OT. You agree Buzz?
Scoop Jackson (10:21 PM)
I'll answer that for Buzz. Probably so. with the East puling it out.
Steve (Miami)
Hey Scoop!!! Are the rumors true that Amare might end up in cleveland? How would he fit in given the fact that Cleveland depends on D and Amare doesnt fit that profile.
Scoop Jackson (10:22 PM)
I've heard just about everything since i've been down here. All I can say is: anything is possible.
Tom (Smithfield, RI)
Scoop, if I can get into next year's Dunk contest, I can bring a stepladder, a horse, a trampoline, a zipline, and a rocketpack, right? I mean, the step-on-the-back dunk sets the precedent.
Scoop Jackson (10:23 PM)
They should combine H-O-R-S-E and the dunk contests next year.
JermaineTubbs(N.O.,La) [via mobile]
Can Chris Paul get MVP with just assist Scoop?Mr.Jackson
Scoop Jackson (10:24 PM)
I think he will. i was just talking to someone about that at halftime.
Keith in CT
What up Scoop? How's Phoenix treating ya this weekend?
Scoop Jackson (10:25 PM)
Cool. contrary to what i've heard some people say, PHX has been prettty good for ASW.
Rio Saginaw Mi [via mobile]
Hey Scoop. Two things one your article this week on Shaq was great. Two I've asked 3 times to no avail but i'm sure you will answer me. Who wins the 4th quarter flingfest barrage and gets the MVP nod Lebron or Kobe?
Scoop Jackson (10:25 PM)
I'm telling you: CP3 is going to get MVP!
West Coast Guy (LA, CA)
Your East coast bias prediction isnt lookin good right now.
Scoop Jackson (10:27 PM)
true. but ... ok Kobe just scored again. maybe I need to rethink what i said.
Doug (Indy)
Scoop! Who's the one player you wish was here this weekend?
Scoop Jackson (10:28 PM)
two: Melo and Al Jefferson
Nick (Cleveland, OH)
If the Danny Ferry can pull off a trade for Amare or Camby does that gives the Cavaliers the edge over Boston and LA?
Scoop Jackson (10:29 PM)
I really don't see that happeneing. I think the Cavs are gioing to roll with what they have.
Steve (Miami)
I think this is best all star game in sports today. Its on a weekend and baseball's isn't and really no one cares about it anymore. Football's is after the season, and hockey's.... well its just hockey. You agree Scoop??
Scoop Jackson (10:30 PM)
Yeah. But NFL is changing nxt year. The Pro Bowl will be the weekend before the Super Bowl.
Mike West
Hi, Scoop I wanted to help you out, and tell you i have an inside scoop with the Pistons. I am told that Rip Hamilton has asked for a trade, but not made it public. Joe Dumars does not wish to trade him, but Hamilton has asked to be moved back East. Dumars and Hamilton's agent Leon Rose, have met at an undisclosed location to discuss Hamilton's future. Is there anyway you can get this information spread?
Scoop Jackson (10:32 PM)
Thanks. But I can't help spread that one.
Steve (Miami)
Does anyone actually care who wins? I just wanna see an entertaining game with good offense and high flying dunks.
Scoop Jackson (10:33 PM)
I think they should do the NBA All Star games like MLB: The winning team gets HCA in the Finals.
LT (Worcester, MA)
I noticed something really alarming yesterday during the all-star festivities. How did Chris Tucker get so big so quickly?
Scoop Jackson (10:34 PM)
And got the grey beard... like mine.
T . Chicago il [via mobile]
if Shaq gets traded where do u think he will go?
Scoop Jackson (10:35 PM)
Somewhere warm. He's never played in a cold weather city.
John (Provo, Utah)
DO you think Yao Ming would be voted in this game by the coaches if he wasn't voted in as a starter?
Scoop Jackson (10:37 PM)
Yes. They know he's the only reason the Rockets haven't fallen apart. Or become the Suns.
Brian Boston MA
BIG THREE MYP
Scoop Jackson (10:38 PM)
BIG is making a run for MVP.
cball [via mobile]
Scoop! Do u agree All-Star Weekend need to make its return to Chicago soon its been over 20 years now.
Scoop Jackson (10:39 PM)
Yeah. It's about time. But Miami is overdue too.
fort worth teas [via mobile]
whos winning
Scoop Jackson (10:39 PM)
The South.
Steve (Miami)
West dominating!!!
Scoop Jackson (10:40 PM)
It's The Shaq Show!
USAF_guy (Alamogordo, New Mexico)
Every All-Star is guarded during regular games by players not present at this game. Am I right to say that the All-Star game is only about shooters and defense is a lost art?
Scoop Jackson (10:42 PM)
Until the 4th Quarter. and if the game is tight, they d up a bit.
Ed (Ann Arbor, MI)
Maybe Shaq should play on the wings. He's been hilariously successful thus far. No one's going to try and step in front of him on the way to the hoop!
Scoop Jackson (10:44 PM)
Nobody tries to step in front of him during REAL games!
Vijay (Orlando)
Scoop - How about a Kobe/Shaq sharing MVP honors this game? Would that convince Mitch Kupchak to trade for Shaq by the deadline?
Scoop Jackson (10:44 PM)
That would be so classic!!!

So, what's the chance of bringing Shaq back to the Purple and Gold?
Scoop Jackson (10:45 PM)

Why can't they just take defense out of the game and make it a high scorin dunk fest
Scoop Jackson (10:45 PM)
Like the Rookie Challenge, right?
stardom06 (Oxford, OH)
Quick question, if you could choose two all stars and fill out the starting five with three of your favorite role players who would fit your team's build, who would be on your team?
Scoop Jackson (10:48 PM)
DWade and Tim Duncan. and I'll take any role players. Doesn't matter.
Anthony (Mason City, Iowa)
Scoop!! Do you think Kobe is going to set the record for most shot attempts in an All-Star game??
Chris Broussard (10:49 PM)
Shout out to our leadoff hitter, John Hollinger, as well as JA and Scoop for holding it down. I'm ready to go, so bring it on. Not sure if this has already been stated, but Shaq is stealing the show in every single way!
Scoop Jackson (10:49 PM)
Nope. Phil's gonna sit him in the 4th Q. My time is up! The anchor Usain Bolt Broussard is on his way. Thanks! Much love!
Shaq & Kobe (PHX/LA)
We miss each other. Scoop, think Mitch will pull the trigger and get us back together?
Chris Broussard (10:51 PM)
Are you kidding? No way. First of all, I'm not sure how much Kobe misses Shaq. Sure, they're buddies now that they're away from each other but Kobe's "that wasn't a fun time in my life" quote the other day shows that he's not trying to have a reunion. Not to mention that with Andrew Bynum in LA, all Shaq would do is create a logjam - an expensive one!
Paul: Cleveland Ohio
Chris, give me some good news that the Cavs our going to make a move for a quality big man. Examples our Amare or Camby. The cavs need to quality big because the tandem of Z, Big Ben, and Varejao scare me when the playoffs come along.
Chris Broussard (10:53 PM)
Well, the Cavs would love to get their hands on Marcus Camby, but I've heard all along that the Clippers are dead set against trading Camby. As for Amare, that's a possibility but far from a certainty. At this moment, Phoenix isn't satisfied with Wally Szczerbiak's contract, JJ Hickson and a first-round pick. They want Andy Varejao as well. That's a steep price for the Cavs and one I'm not sure they're willing to pay.

Were will LeBron James be in 2011?
Chris Broussard (10:54 PM)
60% Cleveland 40% New York
buck philly pa [via mobile]
Who will iverson be playin 4 next yr?
Chris Broussard (10:58 PM)
Great question. Assuming Detroit doesn't re-sign him (a safe assumption, I believe), it'll be interesting to see who wants A.I. next year. The way Detroit has struggled since the trade, it's hard to see a team that's on the cusp of contending viewing him as "the missing piece." And a bad team's not going to want to shell out much dough. I've been told by several league execs that a team that just wants to fill seats will probably sign him. But with his age, his declining game, teams saving money for 2010, and the economy, he's most likely going to be in for a serious pay cut.
Anthony (Mason City, Iowa)
How far do you think Phoenix will go in the playoffs if they trade Amare??
Chris Broussard (10:59 PM)
Do I have to go all Jim Mora on you? Playoffs? Did you just say Playoffs? Playoffs? You ain't making no stinkin' playoffs without Amare.
Joe (Minneapolis)
Do you think Durant is a "no ceiling" type player like LeBron?
Chris Broussard (11:01 PM)
Great question! I don't put him in the LeBron category, but he is certainly going to be special. Next year he'll begin a long, long, long run of All-Star appearances. OKC's going to be nice in the future. They look like a young Blazers crew, but Durant has more upside than any of the Blazers' stars, except for maybe Greg Oden (if he ever reaches his potential).
Mark (Philadelphia)
How Long Before We See Greg Oden Really Becomce What He Was Ment To Be?
Chris Broussard (11:02 PM)
Man, I'm not sure. I do think he can be a great rebounder (12 rpg) and shot blocker (3 bpg) who can get you 15-18 ppg, but he needs to start showing that type of production at least by the midpoint of next season.
Erik (Atlanta, Ga.)
If the Hawks came with a package of Marvin Williams, ZaZa, and AC Law, with a conditional pick would that be enough to get Amare?
Chris Broussard (11:03 PM)
Don't think so.
Tobi (NH)
Do you agree the Celtics need another center before heading into the playoffs? and if so who is out there on the trade blocks?
Chris Broussard (11:05 PM)
I don't think "need" is the right word when discussing LA and Boston. Sure, the Celtics could use a guy like Joe Smith, who could give them what PJ Brown did last season, but you can't write them off if they enter the playoffs "as is." They have enough to win it just like they are right now. That said, y'all know my preseason pick in the East was Cleveland.
Kevin McFail (Minneapolis, MN)
Hey Chris, do you see us wolvies pulling a trigger before the deadline or this summer to fill the Al Jefferson gap? and what do you think of big Al not even getting the chance to be an all star before he tore his ACL?
Chris Broussard (11:08 PM)
A lot of teams have interest in Mike Miller ,but there are indications that Minny won't trade him. Either way, don't expect anything major from Minnesota before the deadline. As for Al Jefferson, I do think he deserved to be an all-star this year. His numbers, of course, were all-star worthy, but the clincher for me was the fact that he led Minny to a 10-3 record in January. Bottom line, he's got to start winning some games if he ever wants to be an All-Star.
Phil (Phoenix)
Hey Chris, with Alvin Gentry as heach coach, do you think we will see the "Seven Seconds or Less" Suns again?
Chris Broussard (11:10 PM)
I like Gentry and I know he knows D'Antoni's system, but I don't think it'll be all-out "7 or less" in Phoenix again. It's hard to play that way with Shaq. They have to utilize his post play, especially wiht him balling the way he is now. The coaching change will improve morale because the players had lost all faith in Porter, but I'm not sure how much their style will change.
Omar MN [via mobile]
Whose gonna get MVP
Chris Broussard (11:10 PM)
Looks like Kobe - unless LeBron or someone leads East on a furious comeback (Not!).
Chris (Chicago, IL) [via mobile]
Bolt! with all this trade talk going on what do u think is the chances Shaq or Amar getting traded to the Lakers.
Chris Broussard (11:11 PM)
You're heard of "Slim to None." Well, this is just None!
freddy (new york)
will amare ever be a great player because it seems his defense isnt there
Chris Broussard (11:13 PM)
He has all the physical tools, but he's going to have to give greater effort to reach is full potential. For him to average 8 rebounds a game is an absolute travesty. Truth be told, he's never been the rebounder he should be - never averaged 10 a game. If he simply puts for the effort, he can grab double-figure boards easily. Same goes for defense. He has all the tools to be a very good defender. Then, he has to re-establish himself as a dominant post presence. He hasn't been a "beast" in awhile. He settles for a lot of Js nowadays.

hey do you really believe shaq and kobe never had beef i mean cmon lets be serious
Chris Broussard (11:14 PM)
No. They definitely had beef. They had more beef than Wendy's (I know, that was corny. Sorry 'bout that.)
steve {ny}
Why wont anybody pass to danny granger
Chris Broussard (11:15 PM)
I guarantee you it's not because they're icing him out like they did to Jordan back in the day.
Doug (Indy)
Hey Chris, J.A. wanted us to start dropping suggestions for his All-Star Vote. I think it's Shaq, his stint of domination not only made this game great, but also gave the West their big cushion they are enjoying now.
Chris Broussard (11:16 PM)
Shaq wouldn't be a bad one because you're right, he broke the game open. But with 27 points it's going to be hard to deny Kobe.
Steiny (NYC)
When it is all said and done, is Vince Carter going to stick with the Nets?
Chris Broussard (11:17 PM)
Most likely. Dallas, San Antonio and Houston have shown big interest, but I think at the end of the day, he remains a Net.
Anthony (Mason City, Iowa)
LOL.... What do you think is worse Spike Lee chilling with Benny The Bull or The Garden Chanting "MVP" for Kobe??
Chris Broussard (11:19 PM)
Garden chanting "MVP" for Kobe. Honestly, they should have chanted that for LeBron. If I was a Knicks fan, I'd pull out all the stops every time LeBron hit the Garden - signs, posters, T-shirts, chants, wine and gold outfits. The whole nine! Guys, it's been fun. Peace!
Buzzmaster (11:20 PM)
Thanks Chris!
Buzzmaster (11:20 PM)
Thanks to all of our chatters tonight - John, J.A., Scoop and Chris. I hope y'all had a good time. That sure was a ton of scoring by the West. They dominated.
Buzzmaster (11:22 PM)
Thanks to everyone for stopping by! Good night!
Buzzmaster (11:33 PM)
Shaq and Kobe sharing the MVP. That seemed appropriate, considering how they both played.
Buzzmaster (11:33 PM)
OK...now that's it. G'night!
