Mark Jones (Cork, Ireland)
Hi Matt, hope you enjoyed the Super Bowl as much as we did here.My question is : What do you think is more important for the Cowboys, bolster the O-line with a high pick or go for a WR high?
Mosley (12:01 PM)
Mark, I'm planning to be in Cork soon, believe it or not. The Cowboys don't feel like they necessarily have a "need" position in the draft. I think they'll stay at No. 27 and take the best player available -- as long as that player's not a QB.
Antonio Gotti (Scranton,Pa)
Hey Matt, I love your chats, Who do you think the giants need to targert in free agency and the draft and DO you believe they have enough talent to contend for a super bowl next year and years to come?
Mosley (12:03 PM)
I think the Giants need help at DT, LB and in the secondary. You probably have enough CBs but you can't go into the 2010 season without better depth at safety. Losing Phillips was a big thing. You need to figure out if Pierce's career in the Meadowlands is over and then go from there. So defense is where you go, both in FA and in the draft.
Ken (Huntington Beach)
Hey Matt, Keep up the great work...I know the Eagles will want a 1st round pick for McNabb, but do you really think anyone will give that up for a 33 yr old QB? What is a more realistic trade proposal?
Mosley (12:03 PM)
I think you could possibly get a second and fifth.
are there rumors about b.marshall possibly considering dallas
Mosley (12:04 PM)
I don't see that happening, Shanard.
does felix get more carries now that barber has slow down a little.
Mosley (12:04 PM)
I think Jones will start next season, so yes.
Mike (Washington DC)
Matt: Honestly, what moves do you see the Cowboys making in the offseason ( FA's and/or cuts ). Thanks
Mosley (12:04 PM)
Not a lot of stuff will happen. You may see them do something with Hamlin. He's a declining player.
Mike (Chippewa Lake, OH)
What kind of package do you expect it to take for the Eagles to trade McNabb? Any realistic chance for Cleveland to get him?
Mosley (12:05 PM)
Denver's probably more of a possibility than Cleveland. But the Browns will be in the mix. I know the Browns also like Kolb. Eagles former GM Heckert now in same role with Browns.
Sheletha Jones (Crosby, Mississippi)
Why is it so difficult for some people to believe that the Saints just flat out beat the Colts? It's not like they hadn't defeated stiff competition all year long. From being underdogs week after week to Superbowl champs only attests to their will and drive. It gripes me to hear people say that the Colts lost the game more than the Saints won it. Whether folks believe it or not, our defense showed up in that game as they have all season. I think the Saints just stunned most people and exposed Manning as human. Those who had knighted him "the best QB of all time" were left with a bitter taste in their mouths. That folly is on them, not Manning. No team is invincible.
Mosley (12:07 PM)
I agree with your basic premise. I think Sean Payton was the better head coach Sunday. And yes, I think a lot of us are still shocked that Manning made THAT throw in such a huge spot. It just doesn't compute.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
What is the best & the worst Super Bowl that you have seen
Mosley (12:08 PM)
I've been fortunate to see some really good ones. I don't think I'll ever surpass Giants-Patriots. Worst is probably Bears-Colts. That game didn't do much for me. By the way, I loved that Pats-Panthers game a few years back.
matt, is it a possibility that jerry jones might take a shot at stallworth he could play that slot we needed (if he's in shape) instead of drafting a wr.
Mosley (12:09 PM)
I've given Stallworth some thought. No one at Valley Ranch has indicated any interest to me. But I'm sure they'll do their due diligence.
Ray A. (San Francisco, CA)
What would McNabb cost the 49ers in terms of players & or draft picks?
Mosley (12:10 PM)
Probably a second and fifth rounder. Somewhere in that neighborhood. Eagles would try to get a second and a fourth. Actually, the Eagles will TRY to get a first.
i think manning gets a bad rap. how many great Qbs do as much for there team? without manning the colts may have only won 2 or 3 games. he does more with less than anybody i've ever seen.
Mosley (12:12 PM)
OK, let's not get carried away. I assume you're talking about Peyton. Yes, he's one of the best QBs to ever play the game. And yes, he just made a huge mistake that shocked a lot of us.But let's not act like he's out there with a bunch of slugs. The O-line has been good for a lot of years. Wayne and Clark are both first-round picks. Same goes for Gonz, who was out with an injury. I realize the Colts hit on Garcon and Collie on the second day of the draft. But again, I think Curtis Painter could lead this team to 9 or 10 wins.
Anuj A. (San Diego, CA)
Doesn't Dallas have to take an offensive tackle in the early rounds to off-set the declining Flozell Adams and consistently banged up Marc Colombo?
Mosley (12:13 PM)
They don't HAVE to do anything, Anuj. They really like the way Doug Free played for seven games while Colombo was injured, so that changed their mindset.
Dan (South Florida)
What is a realistic draft pick the Eagles could get for Vick?
Mosley (12:13 PM)
Fourth or fifth.
Do you think the Skins stay at 4 in the draft to get Bradford or is it a better fit for Kolb to be there ?
Mosley (12:14 PM)
I think they'll stay at No. 4 and pick Bradford.
Mark (North Carolina)
Matt, is there any reason for teams to fear the Redskins next year?
Mosley (12:14 PM)
There is a rumor that the Cowboys could trade Tashard Choice to San Diego for Antonio Cromartie. Any truth to this rumor?
Mosley (12:15 PM)
I haven't heard that, Bob.
If McNabb does leave Philly (have you heard that rumor?) do you think Kolb has a chance to be special only because of the fact he has DeSean Jackson, Maclin, McCoy and Celek lined up with him?
Mosley (12:16 PM)
I think Kolb has a chance to be a winning quarterback in this league. No one knows whether he'll be "special" or not. I only put a handful of QBs in that category right now.
Richard Anderson (West Virginia)
Do you think brandon marshall or anquan boldin could find there way to new york and which one is most likely
Mosley (12:17 PM)
The Giants don't really need another WR. That wasn't one of their problems last season. Steve Smith and Nicks will be starting for years to come. And you may see Barden make a move this offseason to challenge Manningham at some point.
Hey Matt, I think you do great work covering The Beast. I was just wondering, what role do you see Santana Moss in the Redskin's offense next year. He is old but I still think he has alot of speed in him, how do you see The Shanahan's using him in their offense?
Mosley (12:19 PM)
The 0-line has to improve in order for Moss to be dangerous again. He excels on downfield routes that take a little time to develop. But yes, I think the Shanahan boys will find a way to use his elite speed.
What QBs do you put in the special category right now?
Mosley (12:21 PM)
P. Manning, D. Brees, T. Brady, P. Rivers, B. Roethlisberger with A. Rodgers, T. Romo and D. McNabb on the front porch.
What free agents do you think the Skins will target (if any...I know, it's the Redskins).
Mosley (12:22 PM)
Times have changed. This uncapped season is going to make FA a non-factor. I don't see the Skins doing anything big at all.
Dont u think the redskins should trade for kolb give them a 3rd rounder i think kolb showed he could play when mcnabb went down, also remember when he played that was still when eagles line wasnt that great. thanks 4 your time
Mosley (12:24 PM)
I don't think the Eagles are particularly interested in helping out the Skins. And why would you trade a guy for a third-round pick when you spent a second-round pick on him? The Eagles still think Kolb can play. No reason to trade him for a third. No reason to trade him at all unless a team such as the Browns falls head over heels for him and gives up something ridiculous.
Marc (City of Brotherly Love)
Could Kevin Kolb really be the next Drew Brees?
Mosley (12:24 PM)
C'mon! Can we let the guy make his third regular-season start first?
Brett (Ocean Springs MS)
You said a little bit ago that the other teams should fear the Redskins why is that
Mosley (12:25 PM)
Because I have a lot of respect for Shanahan. This won't be an automatic win for the Beast teams next season.
As an Eagles fan...I'm sick of talking QBs. That situation will shake out. But the Eagles MUST address the defense. Any chance they sign Peppers or Brackett to solidify that front 7? Any safeties out there they can get to play over that sorry excuse of an NFL Player, Macho Harris?
Mosley (12:27 PM)
Getting Stew Bradley back will help immensely. The Eagles will look at both CBs and safeties with that No. 24 pick. But from what I hear, they'd rather trade for a vet to play opposite Quintin Mikell. Putting Macho Harris and Demps back there shouldn't be an option for 2010.
The Redskins have a lot of holes to fill (aging RB's, depleted OL, sub-par DB's) other than Bradford in the draft have you heard any hints as to areas will be top prriority for Allen and Shanahan?
Mosley (12:28 PM)
I think they want to amass as much talent as possible. And that might mean that they trade down a few times to pick up some extra picks. You saw how Jeff Ireland and Bill Parcells walked into Miami and started overhauling that roster. The Skins can't really do that via FA anymore, but they can acquire a lot of talent in the draft.
McNabb for Peppers. Could it happen?
Mosley (12:29 PM)
Dream on, my friend.
How long do you think it will take Shanahan to have the Skins competing for NFC East titles?
Mosley (12:29 PM)
2011 sound about right?
Taylor (Dallas, TX)
Do you think the Cowboys will be good enough to even make the playoffs next year given their pretty difficult schedule?
Mosley (12:32 PM)
It's borderline ridiculous to get caught up in schedules this time of year. You may see seven or eight different teams in the playoffs next season. Think about how dramatically different the Vikings would be with Sage Rosenfels rather than Favre. There are just too many things that change. So yes, I think the Cowboys have a good shot. And no, I don't think the schedule is something that should be a big concern right now. This year, you probably thought Denver would be a win. Well, they got hot early in the season and the Cowboys lost that game.
Sam (Fairfax, VA)
Should Mike Shanahan and the Redskins draft Sam Bradford? Is Jason Campbell a starter?
Mosley (12:32 PM)
Jason Campbell's a starter in this league, yes. But I do think Shanahan will select Bradford -- unless the Skins fall in love with Clausen.
how can u see the redskins using hanyesworth next year nd wouldnt his pass rushing skills be no use as a NT
Mosley (12:33 PM)
He'll be able to move around a little bit and play some defensive end. Look at how effective Jay Ratliff's been in the 3-4 as a pass-rusher. I don't think the 3-4 is necessarily a poor fit for Big Al.
Much has been said about a possible 4-3 defense in Washington. What type of role do you see Laron Landry play in a 3-4? Also, the Cows seem to have gotten some production from Ratliff at a NT position that's typically a "grunt" position in a 3-4. Could we see similar results from Haynesworth in a 3-4?
Mosley (12:34 PM)
I think you'll see Landry playing a lot closer to the line of scrimmage in a 3-4. Haslett will try to take advantage of his speed and power. At times, he'll look almost like a LB.
Hey Mosley I emailed you earlier today. With Reggie Bush potentially not willing to restructure if he's asked to, teams that have surfaced are the titans 49ers and seahawks. Why not the redskins? Clinton Portis is overt he hill and has outstayed his welcome in DC. And Betts is coming off an injury and ganther isn't exactly a workhorse back. I think in shanahan's west coast offense, Bush would thrive. And he can split some carris with betts when he's healthy. Snyder can pay him the money he'll ask, even if Bush wants more than he deserves. What do you think?
Mosley (12:36 PM)
Think back to all the tailbacks that Shanahan had success with in Denver. Does Bush remind you of any of those guys?
Anthony (Stony Brook Enlgish Lit II Class)
With a pay day in the near future for Miles Austin, do you see Roy Williams' psyche affected enough to the point where he could give up on the team, if he hasn't already?
Mosley (12:37 PM)
Roy's not a bad guy. So no, I don't see him becoming a problem in the locker room. And it's hard for me to imagine him giving up on his teammates. The Cowboys will try to figure out how to get him more involved this season.
Mike (Richmond, VA)
Matt, Thanks for the Manchester "The Last Lion" suggestion. I might have to actually go back to work tomorrow. Today is day 7 off. Which current Redskins do you think have a good chance of being traded or cut this off season? I can't see Marshall coming to DC, but I've heard the Cardinals might take less than a 1st or 2nd rounder for Boldin. Also I was reading a blog that made it sound like Haslett gave the impression in interview that Shanny might not go QB #4 if at all. Thoughts....
Mosley (12:40 PM)
Mike, it's a great book. But yes, you have to stay committed. I heard snickers when I pulled "The Last Lion" out during my flight to Fort Lauderdale. Thickest paperbook I've ever owned. I think the Skins will have to think long and hard about what to do with Portis. Shanny can either try to revive the RBs career or let him become someone another team's issue. I'd go ahead and let him walk. And you'll hear a lot of rumors on that No. 4 pick. I don't think the Skins have made up their minds yet what to do at No. 4 but I wouldn't put too much stock into what Haslett said.
how come belichek goes for it on 4th and 2 and hes lost his mind and arrogant; but Sean Payton goes for it on the goaline and onside kicks in the same game and people say u need to be bold against the Colts because their offense is just that good?
Mosley (12:43 PM)
Lexie:Sean Payton was going for it from the Colts' goal line. Belichick was going for it in his own territory -- late in a game. Surely you see the distinction. And the onside kick was a calculated risk based on the fact that the Saints knew the Colts were taking an immediate step back before the kickoff. Sure, it could've backfired. Oh, and the onside kick worked, so Sean's a genius! But comparing those decisions to what Belichick did doesn't seem to hold much water.
I see the Eagles taking a big shot at Atogwe for Saftey help and Peppers for DE help. I know they won't get both. And its possible they're too cheap to get either. What one do you see them going after more? When did Baylor get good a bball?
Mosley (12:46 PM)
When did the Eagles become "too cheap" to do something? They gave up a first-round pick and a ton of money to bring in Jason Peters. We've seen them sign Samuel and Westbrook to lucrative deals over the past couple of seasons. If they can acquire Peppers without mortgaging their future, then it's something you consider. But I don't know if that's the case. We've been at basketball for the last three or four seasons.
what changes scheme wise do you see for the g-men next year under perry?
Mosley (12:48 PM)
I don't know if you'll see any drastic scheme changes. I just think Fewell will be more aggressive then Sheridan. He'll put players in position to make plays. I wouldn't be surprised if you see more blitz packages. And you'll see Fewell try to confuse teams by mixing up coverages. OK, I have to check out a bit early. You guys have been awesome -- especially since a lot of us are suffering from the post Super Bowl blues. I'll see you soon.MM
Brett (Ocean Springs )
Do you see the Broncos trading Marshall for McNabb?
Mosley (12:50 PM)
Now why would the Eagles do that? They have Jackson, Maclin and Avant. Where does Marshall fit? Brett, take a break and we'll try to figure this out next week.
brandon jacobs (ny)
am i on the downslope of my career? will i be a giant next year?
Mosley (12:50 PM)
Yes, you'll be back with the Giants next season, Brandon.
